I started taking Lisinopril two weeks ago for relief of high blood pressure. Male, 45, 260 lbs, family history of high blood pressure and stroke. After one week I began experiencing intermittent chest pain, tingling and numbness in my left hand, and sensations like shocks in my head.

I spent several sleepless nights feeling for chest pain, feeling my heart race, expecting my heart to explode and wondering if I should go to the ER.

I visited my doctor and expressed my concerns. She immediately performed an ECG and verified that my heart was functioning normally and that my blood pressure was down. She also indicated that it's not uncommon for vasoconstrictors like Lisinopril to allow stomach acids to rise in the esophagus. This can cause chest pain and affect nerves leading to the brain and to the arm. She prescribed Zantac 150 twice a day and asked me to call her at home 60 minutes after taking the first pill.

I filled the Zantac prescription (one of the $4 prescriptions you can now get most places) and took one immediately. Ten minutes the chest pain was gone. Twenty minutes later the shocks in my head were gone and my arm went from tingly and numb to just slightly achy. Thirty minutes later all of my symptoms were gone. After an hour I dutifully reported to my doc that she was a genius and on my Christmas gift list.

If you're taking Lisinopril and having chest pain obviously let your doctor know about it. Studies indicate that denial is a serious issue and a contributing cause in heart disease victims. Many of my symptoms were classic for unstable angina, which is scary. However, they are also common stomach acid symptoms for first-time users of a wide variety of high blood pressure medications. It's possible that a simple antacid could relieve your side-effects.

Now my goal is to lose 80 lbs so I can get off this medication completely. Working 90 hours a week (the highlights of which are travel, sitting at desks, and eating) isn't going to cut it any more.

I'm a 34 y/o female. I've had a double ear infection and a swollen lymph node for nearly three weeks - I was on a 10 day course of augmenting which did nothing for the infection. I went back to the doctor's yesterday - I was given a 10 day dose of Avelox. I took my first pill at 5pm about an hour later I was feeling very itchy, twenty minutes after that my face and chest broke out in huge angry hives. I wasn't having trouble breathing, but the itching was out of control - I also had the bad stomach pains. I woke up this morning and there are still several hives on my face that are huge and sore. I will never take Avelox again, and I'm telling everyone I know to stay far away from it. It should be pulled!

I can't believe I didn't find this sooner! I was on the Nuvaring for about 4 years and just last month traded it in for the Mirena.

At first, I was thrilled to find the Ring as I have a very hard time taking pills because I've always had a sensitive stomach. The patch was messy and sticky so I was excited to find the ring. For the first couple of years, the only problem I had was keeping it in place (it would continuously fall out) so I just got used to having to push it back into place every time I used the restroom. Every. Single. Time. But it was worth it because it made my periods much, much lighter and more manageable (i usually am down for the count for a few days). I also did the ring continuously without taking a week off because I still had some pretty terrible periods.

About two years ago, I started gaining weight uncontrollably, became very depressed, lethargic and achey. One day I came down with a terrible case of bronchitis and was put on a heavy duty round of antibiotics and steroids. After, I started having terrible heartburn and IBS symptoms which lead me to a gastroenterologist. Every test imaginable was performed, but nothing was found. I was told I had a nervous stomach. Unsatisfied, I got some bloodwork done and had abnormal blood glucose levels. My diabetic husband gave me a glucometer and I realized my blood sugars were totally out of range. I ended up at an Endocrinologist and all tests came back normal. I was also referred to a Rheumatologist for my achy body and joints. I found a list of symptoms of hypothyroidism and was convinced this is what I have, so I was put on a very low dose of Synthroid. At the same time, I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia and put on a whole mess of anti-inflammatories and pain killers.

Unsatisfied with my diagnosis of Fibromyalgia and totally unwilling to admit this is something I have to live with for the rest of my life, I began working with a nutritionist who has helped me get off all the medications (except Synthroid). But still, I hadn't slept through the night in years (getting up 3-4 times a night to use the bathroom), I was terribly achy, irritable, nauseous, constipated and still gaining weight.

Recently, my insurance changed and I decided to get the Mirena. Within a few weeks, most symptoms have drastically improved, my family notices a major change. I actually slept through the night last week, only 3 weeks after using the Ring for the last time. I haven't lost any weight yet, but the fact that I even CAN exercise is monumental. More than anything, I'm thrilled at the prospect that everything was caused by the Ring, the one constant no matter what I tried, and maybe I won't have to live with Fibromyalgia for the rest of my life.

I can't say with total certainty that the NuvaRing caused all my problems, but it is absolutely astounding that all of us are experiencing the same terrible symptoms and none of our doctors have bothered to think that it could be the Ring. I'm angry about this. Why don't they know about these side effects??

Yes these side effects are listed in the package, but they're the same side effects from pretty much every medication... and I don't know about all of you but this thing came damn near close to ruining my life. I couldn't work, sleep, eat, exercise, clean my house, etc. etc. It's no heart attack or stroke, but definitely life altering.

I think health care providers need to be alerted to these symptoms and the possibility that the Nuvaring could be causing it all. It would have saved me thousands of dollars in medical bills and despair. Patients should be warned that the side effects are very real and can be debilitating. I'm almost sorry I found this so late (after I already got rid of it!) but I'm glad I found it nonetheless.

Good luck to all of you!

Is this normal??? I inserted NuvaRing for the first time August 26th. (During my exam). My NP said it would be okay to start then (although my last period was 08/11), but to use additional contraception. My husband and I have been using condoms since the birth of my daughter 2 years ago - so we continued like normal. Twenty minutes after my appointment, I became very nauseated. The following day I had a severe metallic taste in my mouth and a pounding headache. I became extremely tired (falling asleep at 8:30pm) and got very achy, especially arms and legs. I felt like I was on diet pills or drugs (jetty feeling, trouble spitting out words, racing thoughts). The symptoms would be gone in the morning, but come back as the day wore on. The problems became so bad that I took the Ring out on 08/31. (Holiday weekend, no NP on duty). I called the doctor's office on Tuesday. They said that I probably coincidentally caught a virus. It is now 09/07. My symptoms have become better day by day since removing the Ring, but the metallic taste is now a soap taste and I still have occasional nausea. Shouldn't the hormones be gone by now? How long will this last? Anybody????

please everyone who is on lisinopril be warned!!!! my mother was on this medication for a month and began having hives. she went to the emergency room and they gave her antihistamines. a few days later she woke up with facial swelling and a sense of not being able to breath. she went back to the emergency room where she was treated as above. twenty minutes after discharge she began swelling and her throat closed. she suffered cardiac arrest due to lack of oxygen from the swelling in her face and throat.she was stabilized, but unfortunately did not survive this ordeal. please, everyone on this medication, if you experience hives, facial swelling, or lip swelling, see your doctor immediately and push to have medication switched!!!!!!!

My 4 year old daughter is taking furadantin for a UTI and after the first dose in the evening she did not want to eat her dinner. Later in the night she complained of stomach ache, but was able to fall asleep. By the morning she was still complaining of stomach upset and headache. She ate only two bites of her breakfast and then I gave her another dose. Twenty minutes later she began crying with terrible stomach pains.

I took Zorcor for about 9 months and developed cramps and spasms in my legs. At one point the leg cramps lasted almost twenty minutes. I literally could not move my legs. The cramps kept happening more often then less. I discontinue using the medication and it took almost two to three weeks for the cramping to seize.

My son is 3 1/2 and began taking singular when he was 2 for management of a constant cough related to asthma. We witness mood changes in him thought out the day. He will say, "mom I'm just having a sad day," and cry for no reason at one moment and then twenty minutes later be laughing with his sister. "Sad" days seem to happen more frequently since being on singular and the change back is quick. I am at a loss whether to attribute this to his medication or to typical three year old behavior. I plan to take him off the medication for a trial period to see what affect it has on his mood.

Took Chantix for only three weeks. Quit smoking as directed. Chantix saved my life but helping me quit smoking. Only side effects were really vivid dreams and intense nausea about twenty minutes after taking full dose. Nausea lasted about 10 minutes then went away. I know about 12 other people who quit successfully using this. I wouldn't agree with others who say "Don't use this, it's poison." Every persons body reacts differently to different medications. I have a couple I have taken that are on my "never again" list. But know people who it benefited. To each his / her own. I hope this medication works for you.

I took one capsule of this medication at 2:00pm on 12/12/07 and about twenty minutes after taking this medication I began to feel nauseous, than I went and ate something about one hour later just a piece of toast. About ten minutes of eating I began to throw up and started having a headache, so I just kept going not really thinking about it, because the side effect do say headache may occur so I continue my day, about 1 hour and 30 minutes after regurgitating my head was hurting so severely that my eyes was watering and pulse could be heard through my ears, like a drum beating. I then became dizzy and things seemed to get blurred so I laid down and about 10 minutes in laying down my mouth began to fill with thick mucus almost like cotton in my mouth, began to be extremely thirsty so I got up and got water, to throw it back up. I then began to feel my jaw tightening up feeling like I was getting lock jaw. I then called my doctor office and talked to a triage nurse who then called a doctor and called me back and told me not to take any more of the medication and to take 50mg of Beneadryl because of a allergic reaction to the medication, but I am also allergic to PCN and ASA so she said it is rare for people to have an allergic reaction to this medication. Now my symptoms was not over that night I could not sleep, I also had bad dreams, severe night sweats, and nauseous that morning. I started having lower abdominal cramps, and still having problems sleeping, and sometimes I feel like crying and for no reason. Today is 12/20/07 and I still am having severe abdominal cramps, still nauseous in the mornings, no headaches or cotton mouth but the stomach cramps have not yet left and I only took one capsule, today makes a week, tomorrow is my doctor apt. hopefully I can get something to help me out but this is my story about this mess up drug.

I've been on Topamax since just Tuesday, 10/9/07. I find that I get very tired a couple hours after taking it and I have horrible nightmares and very dark thoughts, too. Diet coke tastes so HORRBILE which is bad because I loved my diet cokes, but then again I guess that's good b/c I need to stop drinking them anyway. My worst side effect is that I have horrible mood swings. Is this normal? Is this going to go away over time? Because if not, I'm going to stop taking it now. This is not like me and I am not going to subject my family to this - losing weight is not THAT important to me. Thanks for any help. :(

P. S. I'm taking 25 mg in the morning, afternoon and evening.

Wierd. I have taken Bactrim before and had no incicent - that I can recall. Well, today I was diagnosed with Bladder infection - took 1st dose of bactrim and about twenty minutes later (as i'm walking into a restaurant), everything starts going haywire. First wicked itching, flushing of the skin - then eyes turn BLOOD red, face swells, tongue starts feeling fat and hurts - heart is pounding. I freak out - and throw some money on the table for a glass of tea - that I didn't drink - Husband rushes me back to clinic - as we both think I am having aniphilactic reaction. Terrified. Never experienced anything like it - my face swole up on the way - horrible. Wanted to scratch my skin off. Palms of hands, feet everything feels like its "asleep" and has needle like sensations. They ask if my airway is tightening (!) not yet? They give me a "steroid" shot (generic term I guess), and a Zyrtec. I start calming down on the way home - itching subsides and then chest pains begin - now I think i'm having a heart attack. I don't know if the trembling is from Bactrim or terror. I crawl into bed and start bawling - cuz I feel like I almost died. It scared the shit out of me. Husband paces and wrings hands. Now, hours later - I have sweats, fatigue (dramatic day), and heartrate is still elevated. Left tonsil hurts when I swallow. Yikes.

My dad had an anaphylactic reaction to avelox. Twenty minutes after taking the medication he became flushed and itchy. His face swelled. My dad is a physician and knew that he was having a reaction to the drug but did not know how severe it was. He had a nurse administer a depo medrol shot when in fact it should have been epinepherine. He ended up turning blue and passing out several times until oxygen could be administered. These events took place in his office. When he was in this state of shock, his collegues gave him an EKG and evidence of heart ischemia was recorded. His blood pressure dropped drastically. He was rushed to a hospital where they gave him benedryl and steroids. Thankfully he has recovered without any tissue damage to his heart or brain. Even though he had this reaction, he still feels that avelox is a great drug and that his reaction although extremely life threatening is rare. 1 in 30,000 people will develop this adverse reaction to avelox.

I started itching about twenty minutes after I took the first pill, I am not sure what's worse? The bladder infection I started with or this insane itching! I will not continue with this med and will be seeking new medication tomorrow.

I have been on lisinopril for the past month and a half 40 mgs/daily, and the cough is crippling and disturbs my sleeping. I am also on Topril 50 mgs. The coughing starts as a burning twisting sensation in the middle of my stomach, which turns into a hugh cramp in the back of my throat and sends me into a coughing spasm that ends with my vomiting for a few minutes. I actually have fear when I feel this happening. I'm very scared. It stops for about twenty minutes then starts up again. The doctor thinks I have a cyst in my sinus that makes me cough, I think it's this medicine because of the same thing everyone says here. Blurry vision and fatigue are getting worse. Also my sense of taste is gone.

This drug was given to me along with toridol for a sinusitis attack. After fifteen minutes I screamed to have my IV taken out and began jogging around the room; not good since I had undergone back surgery two weeks prior. The nurse unhooked everything and said he had seen the same reaction that night with a similar case of migraine. He said it should wear off after fifteen minutes. Twenty minutes later the doctor came in and suggested that I have a shot of Benadryl to sleep. No sleep came. I have also experienced this reaction with compazine, except with compazine, I feel like I could run a marathon, but can't move. With Reglan, I run around and feel jumpy and insane. I came home that day and took more Benadryl. I walked laps around the mall. Still no change. Just waiting to get tired.
