For reference, I am 23 years old. I got the Mirena IUD put in 1/30/08 and I got it taken out today. For the first several months i bled and cramped a lot. Once that passed, i was doing good and only spotted every once and a while. Well, for the last 3 months i got my period. It was heavy and I cramped a lot. During this time I also started feeling distant from my close friends and family. I felt a horribly weird sensation of a fluttering in my uterus, almost like when you are driving really fast and go over a hill, how your tummy gets that weird feeling. It felt much like that except it was in my uterus and it started happening all the time. I have also gained like 20 pounds. I haven't been able to sleep at night. I was having sharp pains in my ovary areas. I had it removed today after 15 minutes of my dr. stalling almost as if he absolutly did not want to remove it. I just kept repeating myself until he finally called in the nurse to observe. I am not good at paps or anything else that has to do with strangers invading my lady parts to begin with. So i was sorta freaking out in my own little world while he poked and prodded away. He was good about asking me if I was okay and if it hurt, but im not one to go and answer these types of questions when im in that much distress so it's okay if they talk but i don't like talking to them back. I'd rather they just get it done and over with. Well, I felt him tug and after a few good ones he got it out. That was a Horrible feeling! I almost cried! Then he just started talking to the nurse and since he is foreign i have no clue what he was saying to her, WITH the thingy still stuck in me!! I was so worried and this went on for about two minutes.. Then i asked if we were all done and once he took it out I noticed that the IUD was in a container but there was another small container with a bloody chunk in it!!! sorry if tmi...when i asked what it was he said that "a bit of tissue came out with the IUD and they were going to send it to the lab. I could tell he was trying to act like everything was fine but if everything was FINE...why would tissue come out too? I'm in a state of panic right now and don't know quite what to think at this point. I would NEVER suggest anyone getting Mirena. The bad side effects plus the removal are NOT worth it at all. This should be banned! If i would have known what i do now i would never have gotten it to begin with. I am now dreading the "crash" hopefully it isn't as bad to me as others. I am a single mother of a child with disabilities...if i get this "crash" thing, things are get difficult fast. Hopefully I start feeling normal again soon.

i went in 4/15/09 to have the mirena put in...it wasn't scheduled with my normal ob...she was super nice but i wasn't dilated at all and i hadn't taken any ibuprofen or anything and it felt like i was going into labor...it was the most painful experience i had since i had my 8 month old daughter...anyways, she said she couldn't get my cervix to open enough and that my uterus was tilted and she didn't want to hurt me anymore so she said to reschedule for a week later with my doctor and to take 4 ibuprofen plus a darvocet before my appt...anyways a week goes by and I'm super nervous, i took the pain meds as i was told and my doctor came in and discussed the mirena with me and he actually took a tiny tiny needle and numbed my cervix which i didn't feel at all...i love my ob he's wonderful... anyways...two minutes later it was in...the process wasn't very painful...a little uncomfortable but no pain really...anyways, about six hours later the numbing agent started to wear off and the cramping was horrible, which I'm used to however because thats how i cramp with every period, but its been three days and i'm still cramping like i did the first day...not really bleeding, just like a yellowish thin discharge (that smells awful) its starting to make me feel dirty and after reading all of these comments I'm starting to wonder if the mirena is right for me...i'm 5'7'' and 125-130 lbs, i don't' want to gain weight, thats my biggest concern and the pain also...im not sure if i should have it taken out or leave it in for the first six weeks, till my check up appt...some of my other side effects are...very tired like wore out, i was moody and depressed to begin with but now its just worse...no acne or hair loss but like i said it's only been four days...does anyone have a suggestion for another method of birth control other than the pill....? please help i need some feed back...if you're going to comment back in response address me as sjm....that way i know you're talking to me...thanks much...sjm

After reading all of these stories about Mirena I was halfway terrified to do it. But I knew tons of people with Mirena who hadn't had any problems. So I decided to give it a shot.

So far, I've had light bleeding. Nothing I didn't expect.
And cramps?? ZERO.
No mood swings, no depression, no hair loss, no acne, NOTHING.

I've never had kids, so I was worried about the pain since my cervix was still teeny tiny. Of course it hurt when the doctor was putting it in place, but my wonderful doctor put some numbing spray on it. And the only thing I felt was the initial cramping, which lasted all of about two minutes.

I'm 5'5'' and my boyfriend is 6'6'', and lets say he's very well proportioned. Great news, he cant feel the strings at all, I had her cut them super short, to right up against my cervix.

So far, I'd say its the best birth control I've ever been on, So if your considering it, DO IT.

To those with a history of depression or mood swings: DON'T TAKE THIS MEDICINE.

I started taking Loestrin 24fe in January 2009 to alleviate heavy and irregular periods. I managed to stick with it for a month and a half before the depression and mood swings were too much for me to handle. My boyfriend and six or seven other people (some whom I am close to and some whom I am just friends with) told me I was being strangely moody and wasn't acting like myself AT ALL. My moods fluctuated constantly during the day, always tending toward depression, but alternated between being extremely peppy and very depressed and dull, sometimes several times within a few hours. I started snapping at people for no reason, and random crying spells began as the mood swings went even further downhill to the point where those I am close to became seriously concerned about my mental state and feared that I would become suicidal. I could live with the other side effects-- acne, increased breast size & tenderness, nightmares, and spotting-- but not the personality change.

I stopped taking Loestrin 24 two days ago and immediately noticed a change in my personality. One of my close friends called me and two minutes into the conversation, she told me that I sound like my normal self for the first time since I started taking the pill. The mood swings are gone, as is the depression, and I'm willing to live with irregular periods and the hassle they can be rather than become a different person and end up taking even more medicines to treat the side effects of Loestrin.

I am 22 years old and had 2 cortisone shots in the back of my head. About two minutes after, I passed out, stopped breathing, and my heart actually quite beating. Luckley it happened while I was still at the Clinic.

Let me just start off by saying that I have not had any allergic reactions to medications before. I don't have allergies to any foods or external stimuli like dust or pollen. But literally two minutes after taking Avelox, I started sneezing uncontrollably. Then my nose filled with mucus and I started itching all over my body, most notably on my arms, legs, and scalp. Then I felt that my skin was burning. I looked in the mirror and my face and body were bright pink. I called the pharmacist and she told me to take Benadryl and if my throat started to close up I should go to the hospital. Well, I didn't have any Benadryl, because I don't have any allergies, so I had to drive three blocks to the CVS. At this point, my face is starting to swell up: my eyelids, my nose, my lips and my ears are twice their normal size. I have hives all over my arms and legs. I'm shaking because I feel so cold--my body temperature was only 94 degrees. I took two Benadryl but it didn't really work until I took the 2nd dose four hours later. I ended up at the hospital because I felt like there was something stuck in my throat and was unsure whether that meant that my throat was closing up, but they were so busy that I never made it past triage, where my blood pressure was only 80/40 and my heart rate was 120. We waited in the waiting room until I was able to take the second dose of Benadryl and left. All this after only one dose. I would advise extreme caution with Avelox.

I had taken one chewable tablet, within two minutes I became
violently sick and continued to feel very strange.
The next day I still feel groggy and a little ill.
I suspect such a prompt reaction is extremely rare and was unexpected.
I would not use it again.

i just found this site. I went off of yasmin three days ago. My fam. dr. asked to stop taking it immediately when i went in for chest pains. She said she's had others on yasmin come in with chest pains. So i have stopped (against the advice of my gyno ) and i feel so strange! i feel really sick and i just snapped at my kids today like never before, i think i scared them. what is happening? I feel like throwing up every two minutes, ZERO energy, headache and this is after stopping it and i'm bleeding like crazy. Anyone else go thru this? does it get better ? please tell me it does.

This whole past year i felt like crying ALL of the time and i attributed it to stress. Heart palpitations and chest pain almost every day. This is all new to me are there any other sites out there on this? thank you!!

I started taking Yasmin about three years ago. I was so excited when my periods became shorter, more regular and less intense in pain as well as being able to see my skin clear. Then at about the end of year one beginning of year two the side effects began. Since taking Yasmin I have gained a whopping 30 lbs! It has also taken me almost a year to try and loose 16 lbs of that total weight gain. I have suffered from anxiety, severe depression, extreme anger and paranoia. It was bad enough that my regular physician prescribed Wellbutrin and Xanax. My sex drive has also plummetted to the point of non-existence making me feel horrible not being able to feel close to my fiance. There have also been problems with my vision meaning it takes me a good two minutes with lots of blinking to get a grip on my sight. Migraines have also been severe and frequent. I had a week of nothing but migraines one for every single day. I have to say since taking Yasmin I have been far from my normal self, up to the point of calling off my upcoming wedding! Thankfully I had a brief moment of normal thought and realized that it was a huge mistake. It has been agreed by all parties involved that as soon as I get a doctors appointment I will switch to some other form of BC and destroy my Yasmin pills. Those who are considering taking Yasmin STAY AWAY!!!

I went to a neuro specialist for migraines today and within two minutes he was handing me a sample of Topamx -- without taking any history or listening to what I was saying. And he is a prominent "leader" in his field in Newport Beach, California. I can't believe it. He wanted to hospitalize me for three days and start me on Topamax tonight. I asked him the side effects and he told me only weight loss (I'm 5'6, 115 pounds!), fatigue (I have a weakened immune system already) and kidney stones (I'm a Libra -- and while that sounds funny, that sign rules the kidneys!). He also said I might search for words and chose the wrong ones. Well, I'm a published journalist. Great! What an Idiot. I asked him how long I would have to take it and he said about two years! My husband threw out the pills when I came home and told him the story... and now reading your postings I want to warn those of you our there to be sure that you really need this medication if you are taking it for only for migraines. I'd rather spend a day sick in bed a few days a week that have all of these horrific symptoms appear. Thanks for letting me share and good heath wishes to all of us.

Hi ladies... After being on yeasmin for three months, I was totally LOSING MY MIND. Never having struggled with depression or anxiety before I literally begged my doctor to help me get better. I has suffering horrible panic attacks daily, which i had never had before. I didnt want to go to work for fear of having one in my classroom. She dismissed the thought of it being the Yasmin, which i had just switched to, but i knew something had to be up with it. So after she presciped me Zoloft, I decided that was the last straw. I was not going to start taking an antidepressant before I at least tried getting off the pill. So i stopped taking it about two weeks ago, and switched to Ortho Tri cyclen Lo. I never took the zoloft. GOOD NEWS starting to feel like myself again, alot better, and patching things up with a fiance who wondered where his sweet girlfriend had disassapeared to, and not going to quit my job which i was about two minutes from doing. I dont feel 100 percent back yet, but the panic attacks have stopped and all i feel now is a little nervous, mostly because I am curious about when ill get back to normal and if I even remember how that felt. The depression has lifted compltetely. LAdies, please dont ignore your gut feeling when there is something wrong. Good luck to you all.

I have been on Tegretol since 1999, 800mg daily (2 pills, twice a day, with food) to treat two grand mal and several petit mal seizures I had throughout that year. Since that time I've definitely noticed drowsiness initially, a lack of mental focus, loss of both long and short term memory (I can't remember a thing any more, so I have to write everything down within two minutes otherwise it's just gone) as well as occasional spasms of my right eyelid and calves. I get mild anxiety attacks when I forget to take my meds, so I'm afraid to totally go off it or reduce the dosage myself.

Good luck to everyone else dealing with seizure disorder / epilepsy.

I was at the end of an MRI session when the doctor asked for one more picture. They inserted an IV and dripped in Prohance and stuck me back in the MRI machine. Within a minute I was sneezing uncontrollably, continuing to sneeze for about two minutes. My throat felt very rough, my ears burned. When they took me out of the machine, my voice (normally a bass speaking voice) was at least an octave higher and sounded frayed and pretty much shot. I also was very dizzy. They hastily pulled out the Prohance tube and started feeding me Benadryl via IV. I had no more sneezing and started feeling better, but the dizziness continued. Fortunately, a friend was with me to drive me home. The dizziness lessened over the next several hours, and my voice slowly returned to normal. But it was at least 12 hours before I felt really normal.
