my insertion was so bad i literally almost kicked the doctor as an instant reaction and yelled a cuss word... i had a c section delivery so pain full doesn't even describe that pain it was unbearable.. but the cramping starting the moment after insertion to about a month ago was i think worse then the c section pain id be at work almost on the floor in a ball crying in pain and the doctor said take Tylenol it will go away and nevvvvver did... i still get random cramps and sharp pains

i never had bv until i was pregnant during the pregnancy i had it one time and thought it was gone... after i got the mirena put in ive have 4 cases of bv this is November., and 3 uti's.. i got the mirena in march i believe... that is not good for my body to be on antibiotics like that ... lately ive been having terrrrrible pain when i pee like above my pubic bone.. my first thought was a uti ... went to er hoping to get an antibiotic once again... blood urine ctscan everything was normal... er doctor said its probably my mirena and i should get it taken out... i called my obgyn and she insisted i keep it in and thats not the mirena giving me those pains!!! why are these doctors so against taking it out i mean i'll get on the pill i don't care i thought the mirena would be handy u know not worrying about missing a pilll!!! wellllll i wish would have never decided to get it in ive had painful sex , very emotional, pain in general, it terrible...

alssssso my boyfriend and i obviously do not use condoms bc the birth control... now we have to use them bc hes been having a burning sensation when he pees like so bad and painful to where his legs almost buckle ... he was talking to his best friend about it and he said hes experiencing the sammmmme thing and his girl is on mirena ... they've come to the conclusion theyyyy are having a reaction to the hormone released from the mirena and it makes complete sense i don't care condom or no condom it doesn't bother me... but its the fact ... he said he felt it at one point which the doctor said your boyfriend shouldn't feel a thing... sorry if thats tmi but while having sex i feel it bad and it ruins the mood for sex with me at least...

i didn't have a pd for roughly 3 months now its heavy and clotty... then the next day nothing then the next clotty again im soooooo sick of it thank god i stumbled across this sight in search if the reaction my man was having... but now i don't feel alone for all my problems ive been having!!!!

Hi everyone ~ I am so glad I have found all of you. I have an appt today to have the Mirena placed. I highly considering canceling the appt now. I have read probably 98% bad and only 2% good. can anyone help me decide what I should do? I was having it placed for my heavy, painful menses, the birth control is/was a bonus feature. really? I shouldn't do this eh? someone please respond.

I am 49 years old and got the Mirena for heavy bleeding / perimenopause systems. I was told I would probably stop having periods a couple months after insertion and that appealed to me. I had it put in place on Friday October 30. Insertion was uncomfortable but over quickly and I did not bleed much as a result. I woke up Saturday nauseous with a head ache and tingly feelings in my extremities. I also felt this thing inside me. I laid on my side, I could feel it. I felt a heaviness inside. I took tylenol and Pepto for headaches and nausea but it persisted. I felt very tired and my skin itched. Sunday the same thing. Tingling, headache, nausea and the sensation of having a foreign object inside. My abdomen hurt too. I took tylenol and Pepto but as the day went on I felt worse. I wanted it out! I called a Consulting Nurse who recommended I go to Urgent Care. I went to Urgent Care last night. My blood pressure was very high as well. The Dr said it was a reaction to the hormone. I got the think taken out and felt immediately better. Today my skin itches but that will go away. I have decided to try natural Progesterone cream and other natural methods vs. synthetic hormones.

Hi, I am on the mirena and I have been on ther for almost 2years. At first everything was fine. I don't have a cycle but that didn't bother me cause all the BC I've been on is like that. But know no sleep it's like I sleep but I am not sleep. I have to take Tylenol PM. My sex drive is horrible I can't even get into it or can't get wet either. And especially the weight gain that I experience I'm a person that hardly ever gain weight. I talk with my physician and said that it could be my thyroids I went through all the test everything seems to be fine. I was also thinking about going to a urology doctor.I scared to get the mirena out I have 2 kids and been with my significant other for 9 years. I want to get off but I don't know what else to get on. I have been on everything you can think of and I am not trying to have anymore kids. THIS IS HORRIBLE I MA TO YOUNG FOR THIS

Don't ever take this drug. I was hesitant when I saw the list of side effects. But my UTI was so bad and I didn't want to go back to the doctor for him to prescribe something else. Why he did not give me the same antibiotic that I had last winter with my previous UTI I have no idea. I had a 5 day dose. It went fine. Everything went downhill the evening of my last morning dose which was 10/24/09. Today is 10/26. The chills and aches immediately kicked in big time. I went right to bed with 2 Tylenol. It broke several hours later. Then the sweats began the next morning. Then the chills again last night. They are still here this morning. Because i am so cold I am sleeping in layers of flannel which is accentuating the horrid rash on my chest, neck, and back. The heat seems to be bringing it out. The doctor's office said I could take an OTC allergy pill but that will make me sleepy and I want to keep alert during this crisis. So I am going back to the doctor this afternoon for him to take a look at me. I may give him a piece of my mind for prescribing this crap to people. On my long list of side effects from my pharmacy is the phone number to report side effects to the FDA. It is 1-800-FDA-1088. We suffering patients need to unite against this demon drug so it is eventually pulled off the market. I was given Sulfameth/Trimetrhoprim 800/160 tabs for 5 days, twice daily, for an UTI. My pill bottle also says MFG AMNEAL - Generic for Septra DS tablets. No refills. Who want want to? Good luck to all the suffers of this doomed drug. I had to lose a day from work today and probably will do so tomorrow. And I have to somehow get myself back to the doctor today to hopefully get some relief. And living alone makes it even scarier. Something has to be done about this drug.

I think that I finally figured out why I am so physically and mentally sick. I received the mirena almost 2 years ago and I was a true advocate of the product...I love it!! About 6 months ago I started to have panic attacks and anxiety (i have never experienced this before) it was so bad that I barely made it to work everyday and could no longer handle being out in public. My PCP placed me on different types of anti-depressants (which made me depressed). Currently I take Budeprion which has decreased my anxiety but I do not feel like myself. The past month and a half I wake up with the feeling of morning sickness (the numerous pregnancy test say that I am not), have headaches, low energy levels and little motivation. I was pretty sure that my hormones levels must be "off" but my PCP and OB insisted that there is no way that my symptoms have anything to do with my hormones because my child is almost 2 and I am 29 years old. I have gone through numerous tests, scans etc.to find the cause of why I feel so awful and all tests came back Fine. After reading the stories on this website I now know that I do not need anti-depressants and I am not going crazy...I just need to get the Mirena removed.

I'm having some horrid experience with femcon fe and going for my yearly tomorrow so i'm talking to my gyno about it then... but its DISTURBING me on how many girls keep saying "Tylenol is helping the head aches" i hate to be the bearer of bad news but Tylenol aka ACETOMETAPHINE DECREASES the effectiveness of femcon fe. Its different for EVERY birth control pill. IE: YAZ is decreased by everything BUT acetometaphine....

I just turned 35 and I have been on YASMIN - not YAZ, since I was 28. I have had no problems whatsoever. My only regret is that my OB/GYN started giving out YAZ samples and had none of YASMIN. I took YAZ one month, thinking they were identical products - Big mistake. I felt horrible after taking it just that one month. I told my doctor to change my Rx back to Yasmin and have been happy ever since. Periods are only 3 days and light. Only side effect is that when I am on the sugar pills, I end up getting migraines, but that is because of the steroid withdrawal. I feel these two products have nothing in common...I totally agree that YAZ is a horrible drug, but Yasmin has been around a lot longer and fortunately, I have not had any problems. Like with every drug though, not everything works the same for everyone. Every drug out today has some type of side effect...it is a risk with every drug taken...even with Tylenol and aspirin. I like the way I feel now much better than when I was not taking the Yasmin, so it is a good thing for me....but, to each his own.

I was prescribed medrol by my GP due to an ongoing rash that needed to get under control. I believe I had the 40mg dose/wein pack. The first two days I felt as though I were on speed. Day 2 at the grocery store I stopped to take my blood pressure because I was sure my heart was racing out of my chest. Thankfully, it wasn't and happened to be palpitations that I was having. I had hot flashes where my face and chest would get red like a sunburn. There were the sweats and the leg weakness/soreness. I did have sporadic headaches but, nothing a Tylenol wouldn't alleviate thank goodness. I've read here that numerous people had very bad headaches. My last day on the meds I started to experience the fatigue. Today is my first full day off and I certainly felt flu like. Sporadic lightheadedness, weakness and fatigue that would all come and go throughout my workday along with sporadic energy. I'm glad that I found this site so at least I know that this is normal and will subside in a few days. Other side effects I experienced were worsening of my post nasal drip along with a funny taste in my mouth, mood swings, insomnia, hyperactivity and muscle aches.

I am so relieved reading these messages. I thought I was going crazy alone by myself!!! I got my mirena in March 2009 and I was in love with it for a month. Shortly after around the end of April I started to feel crazy and go through these mood swings. I thought it was cause I have twin toddlers and im unemployed but the symptoms got progressively worse. Now its Oct my boyfriend is sick of me, the headaches and mood swings wont stop and I CANT sleep without Tylenol PMs. Im so excited that I have an answer now!!! Next step is trying to get it removed. Thank you ladies!!! Your voices have given me hope for mine and my family's future!!!

Last month, I went to see a dermatologist as a result of being bitten by bugs while staying in a motel. The doctor looked at the bites and one particular bite on my right arm, which he said was a tick bite. For that bite, the doctor prescribed to me a drug called Doxycycline HYC for Lyme Disease that I had to take for 30 days. Number one, I hate taking drugs and I have never taken any medication for that long a period of time, except for the Centrum multi vitamin I take on a daily basis.

I went back to the doctor's office earlier this month showing him more bites on my back and a rash on my right leg, the latter of which he said was an allergic reaction to the drug prescribed. He said Doxycycline HYC was the drug that is used to treat Lyme Disease and that I had to finish the course.

On Wednesday of last week, I had four pills left when I noticed a slight change in my vision. I took the pills Wednesday and Thursday and was done with them on Thursday to finish the course. By Saturday, my vision was very blurry and I only have one eye. I wear safety glasses to protect that eye with no prescription in the lenses.

On Saturday, I walked over to the pharmacy and the pharmacist printed out a report on that drug and there is an indication – along with many other side effects – citing blurry vision. On Sunday, I spoke with the doctor's colleague, who asked me whether I was also having headaches while taking that drug. I told the colleague I was having headaches but that I was taking Tylenol when the headaches occurred. The colleague not only told me I could have been prescribed another drug (which I was surprised to hear but would it have mattered anyhow because I only had four pills left) but he also said that my vision will get better but it will take time. I really wish I knew in what time frame my vision will come back because the colleague also mentioned that I may have to see a neurologist and I am wondering because of that statement if something happened in my brain during the times I was getting the headaches that could have affected my vision.

Then I was talking to a nurse friend yesterday concerning the blurry vision – which is still blurry since Saturday of last week – and she asked me if I have diabetes. I told her I do not have diabetes but she said blurry vision is associated with diabetes and that I could lose my sight.

I cannot believe all that has happened as a result of taking that Doxycycline HYC. I also went to have an eye exam and the eye doctor scheduled an appointment for October 8 to see me again to see if the vision clears up on its own. He said if it does not, I must now start to wear prescription lenses. But I am really skeptical about waiting that long because every day I wake up, my vision seems to be getting blurrier and blurrier. I am blown away about all of this -- all as a result of taking that drug. And I have to sit very close to the computer screen in order to see to type anything.

Because my nurse friend was talking about diabetes being associated with the blurry vision, I also went searching about that yesterday and found this statement:

"The use of antibiotics can affect blood glucose levels, at times contributing to elevations and in some cases a decrease in blood glucose levels, depending on the antibiotic used, as well as individual response. Antibiotics are also used for the treatment of infections, which often contribute to elevations in blood glucose, in and of themselves. In the case of Lyme disease the relapsing cyclic activity of the Borreila spirochete, may also contribute to times of elevations in blood glucose, due to the increased presence of infectious organisms during periods of such activity. It is important to discuss your blood glucose response to treatment with your Doctor, as improved blood glucose control during times of treatment
for any infectious state, helps the body put up a better fight."

I am stuck in my apartment scared to death and very, very, very depressed about this blurry vision. Moreover, I unable to drive to the locations I need to get to for my job because not only is it hazardous for me to drive on a consistent basis, but my bills are coming due and no way of paying them.

Well, about a year ago I was put on Lamictal and didn't experience any side effects, but was also on Lexapro, Trazodone, and Klonopin. I stopped all of the medication besides the Klonopin as I was doing well. However I recently was put back on a low dosage of Lamictal as a mood stabilizer. It's been a week. The only side effect I'm having is headaches! I have a headache all day long. Tylenol doesn't help, it doesn't go away. Once my dosage increases in a week I will only be on 50 mg of Lamictal. I just want the headaches to go away. Did anybody experience headaches while first taking the drug? I'm scared of all of the postings of memory loss and hair loss. I sleep fine, I'm not anxious, I had my first vivid dream last night since I started taking the drug. I don't want to go back on an anti-depressant. Any opinions?

Straight from Wikipedia:
Metoprolol may worsen the symptoms of heart failure in some patients. Check with your doctor right away if you are having chest pain or discomfort; dilated neck veins; extreme fatigue; irregular breathing; an irregular heartbeat; shortness of breath; swelling of the face, fingers, feet, or lower legs; weight gain; or wheezing.

This medicine may cause changes in your blood sugar levels. Also, this medicine may cover up signs of low blood sugar, such as a rapid pulse rate. Check with your doctor if you have these problems or if you notice a change in the results of your blood or urine sugar tests.

This medicine may cause some people to become less alert than they are normally. If this side effect occurs, do not drive, use machines, or do anything else that could be dangerous if you are not alert while taking metoprolol .

Side effects
Transient effects include dizziness, lightheadedness, drowsiness, tiredness, diarrhea, unusual dreams, ataxia, trouble sleeping, depression, and vision problems. It may also reduce blood flow to the hands and feet, causing them to feel numb and cold; smoking may worsen this effect.

Serious side effects that are not to be tolerated for any length of time include symptoms of a very slow heartbeat (less than 50 bpm) (e.g. persistent dizziness, fainting, unusual fatigue), bluish discoloration of the fingers and toes, numbness/tingling/swelling of the hands or feet, sexual dysfunction, erectile dysfunction (impotence), hair loss, mental/mood changes, trouble breathing, cough, dyslipidemia, and increased thirst. Other highly unlikely symptoms include easy bruising or bleeding, persistent sore throat or fever, yellowing skin or eyes, stomach pain, dark urine, and persistent nausea. Symptoms of an allergic reaction include: rash, itching, swelling, severe dizziness. Taking it with alcohol might cause mild body rashes and therefore is not recommended.

Why on earth do Doctors keep prescribing these medications that are doing more harm than good? They are causing so many other symptoms, no wonder our Health Care in this country is "out of sight". We take drugs that continue to make us sicker , sicker, and sicker, which require more testing, testing and testing....HELLO people...you need to ask yourselves if you "believe" what that Doctors are telling you. I don't, not anymore. They are SOOOO misinformed by the Pharmaceutical Rep pushing drugs that the DRUGS have become the REAL DISEASE! You need to go back to "square one"...and get off of everything.

My girlfriend age 62 was taking 14 different medications that included BP Meds, Cholesterol Meds, and on and on. She's now laying on a Ventilator from all the interactions these drugs have caused her. She cannot even lift her head of the pillow. Her memory is shot! Just another side affect of the drugs. Are there any Doctors out there who can "step out of the box" ? You're killing people with the drugs your prescribing because you don't understand the interactions they have with each other. You just keep on prescribing. You need to study each medication before you keep prescribing them.

Hello,
Had the Mirena inserted last week, 6 weeks following the birth of my second baby. I chose Mirena because I wanted a long term solution and had bad side effects from oral contraceptives (vomiting everyday + headaches)
Insertion was very painful, stabbing pain in my hip then difficulty walking for about 12 hours. the next day I realized my milk supply had gone down a lot, and I also developed a nasty headache that will not go away since then. Called the doc, getting it removed tomorrow...glad my insurance covered it but very annoyed I went through this. I have had to take Tylenol non stop for the headaches and fennugreek to try and get my milk supply up...hope the side effects disappear quickly. As far as contraceptive method, going back to condoms, unsure what to do next.

EFFFF Levoxyl!!! My life has been really, really difficult since being on this medication. Reading all of your posts truly makes me feel like I am not alone in my struggle, anger, and frustration! If we could only sit in a room and talk about this face to face, how much better we might all feel. I think there needs to be thyroid support groups. Does anyone know of any?

I went back on Levoxyl about 2 months ago, because I was feeling tired again. I took myself off of it a year ago because I felt like I didn't need it anymore. I wasn't feeling great being on it and I had given myself a year on it already. Which by the way was a year from hell. I experienced depression for the first time in my life, gained about 20 lbs. from binge eating (never had an eating disorder or weight problem in my life), was fatigued constantly, then blamed myself for being so lazy all the time, lost friends because I canceled soooo much on hanging out, "I'm really sorry but I'm just not feeling good." Yeah that excuse gets really old to people with a normal functioning endocrine gland. Mind you I was diagnosed with this at 23. Sure I am mad that I have this problem, but when I am trying to get myself well and take the steps necessary per my doctor, it's really frustrating to just not feel like yourself. During the year off of it I took a natural thyroid support. Feeling fine, I slacked on taking the support thinking I had kick started my thyroid.
Two months of being back on it and I'm done! In a moment of emotional anger I threw my Levoxyl pills in the toilet. You know what they did...expanded to the size of a bazooka joe bubble gum piece. Uh that's big considering it's such a small pill.
I went to my doctor today because I've been experiencing bloating, pain and constipation for 3 weeks now. He told me to drink coffee and take benefiber, because perhaps I'm not getting enough ruffage in my diet. Just to see if I'm crazy about the expanding pill, I dropped an advil and tylenol in there. They simply fizzled down. I think these meds are making me bloated etc. and it's not worth it to me to feel this way. My body is telling me something is wrong and I need to listen!!
I eat right, take vitamins, drink PLENTY of water etc. and I still feel crummy.
I have been doing research online and have found a product called IODORAL. It is Iodine and Potassium Iodide. I have read many posts from people stating that this product has given them energy, helped with fatigue, their memory, overall well being. What was shocking for me learn is that Iodine helps fibristic breast tissue along with other parts of the body. Did you all know that 30 years ago breast cancer affected 1 in 20 women, and now it's 1 in 8 ???! Iodine used to be part of our diets. It has since been depleted from our soils and other foods. Bread used to be made with Iodine. Now Bromine is used in the baking process. Did you know that Bromine blocks the thyroid from producing necessary hormones for function. I bought myself some IODORAL and I'm going to see if it works. I am not a doctor but I am a person who is very in tune with their body. The bible says that there IS A CURE for everything on earth. I pray that all of you who have posted on here and are in discomfort do not give up your hope and find a different doctor or start doing your own research and be your own advocate for your health. There has to be something better out there! Something that isn't hurting our bodies! I am not giving up hope yet and neither should you!

I began taking Adderall when I was about 16 yrs old.My doctor prescribed me 30 mg of Adderall RX. At first I would take it ALL the time (more than I was prescribed) and my grades improved tremendously..but then all the bad side effects began happening. I would get horrible back pains, had trouble swallowing (felt like I was swallowing a ball of dry food - usually happened late at night) Insomnia that kept me up all night. Another side effect that led me to stop taking the meds all together was that I felt like it was slowing my brain down. I couldn't construct sentences as easily as I once used to, and I felt like a ROBOT. I was numb to everything, my friends even started noticing my change. I was just a different person on this medication and not my usual bubbly self. So I stopped taking the medication daily and would only take it when I really needed it - for example, SAT'S, test, etc. When I got to college I began taking it as well for tests, long lectures, etc..but I started getting horrible migraines at night - not even Tylenol would work.. I used to have to lay in complete darkness and try to go to sleep. HORRIBLE. Anyway..has anyone found any remedies for the side effects you feel later on in the day when you start "coming down" from the medication? Tylenol doesn't seem to work..also, is it okay to be on sleeping pills and adderall? My doctor prescribed me both but I really felt like she was just handing out meds just cause she could so I didn't take them.

So I've been reading all of your posts here and finally decided to share my experience. When I got the mirena put in about 7 weeks after my son was born back in the beginning of September the procedure went easy. It just felt like a little cramp then it was over. Before it was inserted tho, they gave me 2 Advil. The Dr. also had me quickly read the pamphlet about the mirena. All that I read sounded like it would be all good so I said ok to having it inserted. After the insertion I went home about an hour or 2 later I started cramping and bleeding. I figured it was ok until it only got worse. I cramped really bad like I was in labor again for about a week. I wanted to call, but stubborn me wanted to stick it out. Well after that calmed down a bit I had irregular bleeding for months after that. Each time I bled or had my period it hurt really bad. Each period also lasted for 10 days about. I finally made an appt. with my regular Dr. and she just gave me Tylenol 3's. This was at about the 6 month mark of having it in. Also by then I started suffering severe anxiety and depression. I had terrible mood swings and crying spells. Well about a month after that I went back because I needed something for all that stuff and the pain had gotten worse. My whole body hurt. So she gave me percocets, valium and effexor xr 150 mgs. I also noticed when they took my vitals this time and the last my temp was 99.4 and my blood pressure was in the 130's one time and the 140's another time. My pulse was also 111 once and 118 another time. Well about two weeks after that second appt. I developed a urinary infection and after I went in for the 3rd time and my urine was tested it came back severe infection. My vitals were 99.6 and 156 for pressure and 109 for pulse. Mind you each time my vitals were never mentioned or even a concern to the docs. Just I noticed it seemed. Well after I took the 10 day antibiotics the urinary pain went away but not my fever and I had really bad body aches. I went back to the Dr. and was given vicodin and was ordered blood tests. My vitals were all high again. I did the blood tests, made an appt. for 2 weeks later to get results and went home and suffered still. When I went back for my results the only finding was my B12 level was low. I wasn't told how low or what to do. So I got all my meds refilled and went home. I went and bought B12 vit.s. I decided to look up B12 online. Then I made an appt. to go back and get more details of it. She told me the level was 168 and she decided to get me a shot that lasts for a month and refilled my vicodin. A week later I felt a little better, but still had symptoms going on. That's when I thought about the mirena being the problem and stumbled on this site and other sites about mirena neg. side affects. I have severe acne, a low grade fever for 4 months, high pulse rate, high blood pressure, mood swings, depression, anxiety, bloating that looks like I'm pregnant and have been asked 3 times when is my baby due. I am 5ft 3in and weigh 129 so I am not fat all over just my stomach is so bloated and fat that it makes me look pregnant. I bleed for 10 days, I have NO libido, I feel strange sensations in my stomach like a baby moving, but I am not pregnant, Iove had nausea, loss of appetite, yet I can,t lose any weight, I am tired a lot, body aces, joint pain, nerve pain, tension in my neck and shoulders, headaches and low B12 levels which don't normally happen to anyone until they are over 50. Well 2 days ago after reading on this, I decided I have had it and couldn't take it anymore and took the damn thing out myself. It didn't hurt at all, in fact I couldn't even feel it coming out. It came out so easy. I don't recommend anyone doing this themselves, I am simply telling my story. I started what seems to be a period this morning. It's very normal so far. I plan on going to my new Dr. I'm getting soon and getting a check up and a pap since I'm due for one. I feel pretty good so far. No problems and I'm relieved that piece of plastic is out of me and look forward to getting my life back. Good luck to all of you!!

My local hospital prescribed Avelox for a sinus infection since Amoxicillin wasn't working. My fever jumped up to 102 the first 2 days so I called my family doctor. He told me to keep taking the meds for 2 more days and if my fever persisted to call him back. I experienced the high fever on day 3 and then was in a world of shock when I took the 4th pill. My body went numb, I was speaking but had no idea what I was saying, dizzy, the fever subsided during the day but spiked back up to 102 that night and I was very irritable. I made a doctors appointment the next day and the doctor told me to take the meds at night and I wouldn't have those reactions. After reading these comments and my day 4 episode, I had it in my head that I was not going to take any more pills. Then I called a nurse friend who assured me that it wasn't the antibiotic making me feel that way.....it was the extra strength Tylenol. She advised me to take the pill. I took the pill and not two hours later, my body went numb, I became dizzy, my tendons in my right knee and left foot swelled and I couldn't sleep. After my body went numb, I took the rest of the pills and flushed them down the toilet. I'm still feeling the affects of the pills and it's been 2 days. I've been swallowing gallons of water to flush it out of my system. I lost an entire week of work and pretty much my normal life. I'd much rather have sinus pressure in my head then deal with these side effects.

I have been on this for 6 days for a UTI. I personally am not allergic to sulfa drugs and have had absolutely no problem while on it so I can't speak to specific side effects but I do have something to say about it. I'm a little confused as to why so many of you believe that this drug should be taken off the market. Surprise, a lot of people are allergic to sulfa drugs which accounts for the vast majority of adverse events described by nearly everyone on this post. And guess what, every single drug comes with side effects (Tylenol, Advil, Tums, etc. are no exception) and you accept the risk of those side effects when you put it in your body and weigh that risk against the possible benefits. It's not your doctor's or the drug company's fault you're allergic! Antibiotics, including this one, have saved millions upon millions of lives. It seems intuitive but it evidently must be said: if you're allergic to it STOP TAKING IT and call your doctor so he can prescribe a different antibiotic. Seriously people, it's not rocket science. Hives are a pretty straight- forward symptom of an allergy and one that can be diagnosed by the lay person. I am a medical professional, but even if I wasn't, you don't need an MD behind your name to figure that one out. Why would you continue to take it after having an obvious reaction? (a reaction that, by the way, is a well documented, clearly stated possible side effect of this particular medication if you'd taken the time to ask any questions whatsoever regarding your own health, not a surprise adverse event of a bad drug) It's not rocket science, it's common sense people. When I'm prescribed something I'm not familiar with, my first question is, "What do I need to know about this." Even after a satisfactory explanation, I look it up before taking it. In fact, that's how I found this post. Which brings me to my last point, why is it that people blindly put things into their bodies that they know nothing about. If the pharmacist doesn't explain drug information to you in person, that's what the little drug safety pamphlet attached to your Rx is for. Read it, that's why it's there. OR, there's always the option of using this wonderful resource called the internet. Use your brains for god sake and take a more active, responsible, and informed role in your own healthcare process. You are ultimately responsible for your own health, and to be completely honest, you're one of the only people who actually cares about it (guess what, your doctor probably isn't one of them because he has a hundred other pain in the ass patients with no common sense to keep track of). Think people...

I was given 500 mg of Levaquin a day for 10 days for pneumonia, which I later found out I didn't have. Anyway, before he ten days were up, I started couldn't lift my arms above my head, then my joints started to pop and crack and all my joints ache me, ore severe pain in my knee that hasn't gotten better. It has been over a month and I am still in pain and don't know how to get relief. I tried Motrin, but this doesn't help. I also tried Tylenol and this doesn't help either. I tried going to the chiropractor and it helped a little, but the pain came back after the icing wore off. I don't know which way to turn with all this pain. It feels like my bones are falling apart.
If anyone has any remedies that work to get rid of this toxic poison in my body, please let me know. Thank you, Antoinette

I always had breakouts, but nothing too severe that a face wash and makeup couldn't handle. Then, about 2 months ago, it started to get really bad! I started breaking out along my jaw line, and neck. It slowly started to spread its way up my face. It was large, red, and very painful. My boyfriend notice that I wasn't my happy go lucky self anymore, due to the acne, and suggested I go to the Derm, his treat, since Im a waitress, with no insurance.
The Derm said I have a severe form of cystic acne, and prescribed me Doxycycline. I was so excited that I was gonna have my skin back, although not perfect, but better. I had formed what looked like bloodclots underneathe my skin, where Im guessing the cysts broken up. (pretty awful, right!)
First day I took it, no problem. I had picked it up after work, so its was later in the day, after of course, I ate. So, I figured the next morning, I would follow the directions to a "T" because I needed to have my skin back. BIG mistake!! DO NOT TAKE THIS ON AN EMPTY STOMACH! Wow!! What an awful feeling! I threw up for about 15 minutes. (not sure why they recommend you to do that anyway, your not supposed to take Tylenol on an empty stomach) But I felt much better, and continued my day.
Yesterday was my 5th day on the medicine, and I noticed that I was very "bitchy" ( my boyfriends exact words ) felt very irritated and moody. But, I can deal with it, its not that bad. Also, had a lump in my throat, but that went away in about 20 minutes. But, we went to the grocery store, and I noticed that my eyes were very dry, and would burn as if you were having a staring contest and would leave your eyes open without blinking. I also noticed that I felt a little dizzy, and my boyfriend said that I felt shaky. I have hypoglycemia, so I figured I was just hungry. But, Im pretty sure that its the medicine now, from those before me listed similar side effects.
Im hoping that I don't get other side effects like other people listed. That would make me stop taking it all together, and would send me marching back to the Derm, for another treatment.
I have noticed that in about a week, my cysts have reduced in size pretty good, and are healing pretty well. My bloodclots are all gone, and Im starting to feel like the beautiful woman I once was! It seems very promising, and I look forward to continuing my Doxycycline!

I was diagnosed with ILC August 2007. I had bilateral mastectomy w/ reconstruction, chemo and started Tamoxifen. Then I had a hysterectomy and I started Aromasin about six months ago. Prior to starting Aromasin I had some muscle and joint pain from Tamoxifen but I could tolerate most days. Three months into Aromasin, I couldn't get out of my car. It literally took me 15 minutes one day and I had to trade cars with my daughter. Naproxen gave me upset stomach, ibuprofen wasn't enough, Tylenol wasn't enough, Hydrocodone kinda helped but makes you feel weird. My doctor decided to take me off of it and i haven't taken anything since. My side effects were: extreme stiffness, better with motion but joint pain was so bad i didn't want to move. I have been documented as having overall generalized weakness as a result. My doctor said Aromasin shouldn't make me feel this way but why is it doing this to everyone else (mostly) too? I am now being evaluated by a rheumatologist for arthritis. My joints still hurt so bad. I gained weight, cant concentrate, can't sleep, can't wear my shoes. my ankles hurt the worst after being on my feet. My ankles, knee joints, hip joints, neck, elbows, wrists, fingers, toes and jaw are all very painful now.
If i would have known all of this, i never would have had my hysterectomy and stayed on Tamoxifen. I can only hope at some point this will get better. I just pray the cancer doesn't come back in the meantime.

I was put on Femcon FE to regulate my periods and because I am sexually active. I have been with my boyfriend for 1 year and 9 months now and just recently did we start having sex. I know birth controls don't protect against STDS which I'm ok with, since we're both each others firsts. I am 19 years old. I have been on the pill now for a little over a week and a half, not that long. All I have noticed on it are. 1. headaches, which Tylenol definitely fixes, 2. nausea, which isn't that awful but it's not the greatest 3. an increased sex drive, It makes me want it all the time and 4. a decreased appetite. I know I haven't been on it long and these symptoms aren't unbearable, I just hope they end. I guess my body just needs to get used to it. Oh yes and one more thing, I have recently been getting zits, they aren't bad like some people have mentioned but they aren't the greatest either, I never really get zits. It might not be Femcon related at all, since I work around oil and stuff and have been working a lot lately that and it's been hot out and sometimes in the summer I get them. But if they continue and my other side affects continue I'll keep you all posted. So far, everything is bearable and I don't think Femcon is that bad, minus the minty-ness. It's slightly awful haha

I had my Mirena put in about 2 months ago. I was very nervous about it hurting, but it didn't hurt at all!!! I've had 2 kids though and the doctor said it's worse for those who haven't had children yet. I was on Lybrel up tp the day I got the Mirena inserted. I think because I didn't get a period while on Lybrel that it helped a lot with this. I spotted a few times for about a week and haven't seen anything since. I also had cramps for about a day and 1/2 after insertion. I have noticed that my face has broken out A LOT!!! I asked the doc about it and she said that if I wasn't on any birth control at all..my face would be as bad as it is on this. ??? I also always feel bloated. It's horrible...I've never felt this fat before. And the funny thing is I haven't actually gained any weight. I also notice a lot of mood changes and once again she(doctor) blamed my hormones and said Mirena shouldn't affect it at all. So basically the Lybrel was doing a better job with helping these issues... So, I told my doctor I would give this a couple more months, but if I gain more than 10 pounds, it's outta there!!! I also have always had an issue with migraines and that's the main reason the doctor had me switch to Mirena. My migraines have kinda been worse. It's weird, they are less severe but are present almost everyday. Before I would get 1 really bad one once a week and only prescription meds would help. Now I get one not so bad one that I take Treximet for and the rest I can take Tylenol and they go away. weird. the doctor said that if Mirena didn't help my migraines that no birth control would.
