So. I have read a lot here about side effects. What have you guys switched to (i.e. what BPM are you taking now)?
Who has switched to something else and been pleased with the results?
Need specifics please on an alternative.

I have been taking Crestor since early September 08. Prior to that I was on Vytorin for quite awhile. I now have right sided parthesia and my face tingles constantly on the right side. I have had MRIs MRAs not to mention blood tests that say my kidneys are spilling calcium. No one seems to have a clue what is going on. My feet and legs hurt so bad if I sit for too long I can't hardly walk. My uncle passed away from ALS and now I'm really scared that all of these statins are killing me slowly. I wonder if I quite taking this drug will I have a heart attack. I really just don't know what to do.

I have been on Simvastatin for several months. I am now experiencing low back pain, stiff neck on the right-hand side, fatigue feelings in back when standing, fatigue, dizziness and generally feeling "awful." My MD cut me back from 40mg daily to 40mg every other day, but I still continue to feel sick.
I read complaints from others on this site and want to share my symptoms. I have a 78% blockage in my right carotid artery and a 58% blockage in my left carotid artery. I am 72 years old but what else can I do to prevent a possible stroke should these blockages increase without the use of a statin drug????

recently was prescribed simvastatin. Pharmacist advised that 50% of people will experience severe muscle & joint pain and burning in the muscles. I can see by reading the site that this is true. Must try since cholesteral and bp are high and dr thinks at 51 I had two mini strokes (tia's). If I experience the severe pain that is discussed i will stop taking. Thank you for all the info! This site is awesome.

My side effect has been a life changing exoerience. In October 2002, after being On lipitor for nearly 4 years, I developed lesions on my brain, extreme confusion, Lethargy, Ataxia, Apraxia. I was hospitalized for 28 days at the University of WI, Madison, and was about 1 week away from being transferred to a nursing home. My working Diagnois was MELAS, Mitochondrial Encephalomyopathy with Lactic Acidosis and Stroke-like Episodes, as evidenced on my brain and muscle biopsies, as well as serial lab tests which revealed Lactic Acidosis.. The only know treatment is a palliative one, which is called a mitochondrial cocktail. About 10 Vitamins and Amino Acids an twice daily. Included in this cocktail is Ubiquinone, also known as Coenzyme Q10, which the synthesis of this essential nutrient is so conveniently inhibited by Statin Drugs. The result f CoQ10 deficciency may include Neuronal Apoptosis (brain Cell death, which is what was demonstrated on my brain biopsy. Dr. Beatrice Golomb MD,PhD, principal investigator in the UCSD Statin Effects study has opined that "Lipitor was the likely causal Contributor to my illness and resultant disability". My primary Doctor still wants me to resume statin use, I told him I will take my chances with heart disease, rather than to die from whatever this thing is in my brain.
It has been 4 and 1/2 years now, I still suffer from extreme fatigue, Myoclonus in both my legss, and bilateral leg pain and weakness
Please let me know of any Legal Recourse I can join as I am completely disgusted with BIG PHARMA! I was a practicing Critical Care Registered Nurse for 12 years prior to this incident.

To Twinkle, yes, I had all those side effects.
If you are not taking CoQ10 please starts right now. It's available without Rx at any pharmacy or drug store. Lipitor is known to deplete the body's store of this important substance which is also known as Ubiquinone. A new statin is being developed which includes it. I'd talk to your doc about easing off the Lipitor or at the very least cutting the dose before you do permanent nerve damage like I fear I have done.
Good luck!!

-- By hasina | Reply | (6) replies | Private Message memy question is regarding COQ10 that it has structure like vitamin K,does it cause blood clot if taking large dose?does it safe for people with heart disease and anyone who take aspirin ?taking 150mg is safe?my father has serious side effect with lipitor and it made him unable to walk he increased coq10 to 150mg but i am worried about it's clotting factor.before he used 50mg.
