It seems most people on here are blaming their "side effects" on the medicine. Could you quite possibly have health issues anyway? what about those people that don't take Singulair and have the exact same symptoms? Is it because they are THINKING about it?
It's one thing to be informed about medication. It's another to go overboard.

I hate it! My doctor prescribed 1200mg a day. When I followed this dosage for a week (approximately 2 years ago) I was so lethargic, my tongue felt as if it weighed 10 pounds plus it was numb and I was the most unproductive individual! I stopped taking 1200 and started with 600; the same side effects occurred. Now, I take it every few days which really sucks because the manic monster rears its ugly head. At this point, I have to do my own research to find the right medication for my bipolar. I do know that I cannot continue this medication. I thought it was going to help control the severe angry outburst; I've broken one of our ceiling lamps by throwing my shoes. It's like being trapped within myself. I hope any and everyone who posts to this and even those out there that have bipolar, finds the right medication. It is so incredibly difficult not knowing which way my mood will take me; what journey: being ok one minute and the next, feeling terrible.

After reading a few recent posts I feel compelled to speak. I have been in the medical profession for 10 years. I have seen the good and the bad of singulair. Yes it works great for some people with little or no side effects. BUT there are more than a fair share of kids who it does not. Singulair does and cause suicidal and psychotic thoughts, especially in young children. Does that mean every kid that takes it this will happen, NO. Parents just need to be aware of it. The FDA is also to blame along with the drug company. This drug has not had extensive research on kids and long term use. There lies the problem. I want to remind those of you who are blogging that there may be many parents who are quick to blame their behavioral problems on other things rather than looking at themselves and what they can do. I can tell you first hand though there are parents on here that have truly seen the ugly head of Singulair. Just ask the woman whose son committed suicide. You need to be sensitive to that. You always think it won't happen to you. After being in emergency medicine I can tell you that is the first thing every parent states after being told their child, and yes young ones too committed suicide. It is very scary. My child himself at the age of 5 had no other organic so to speak reason to have a psychotic break or all the other symptoms he experienced. There was no explanation, I was at a loss. I took him off Singulair knowing amongst the medical community of it's ugly reputation at times. GUESS WHAT!!! within 2 weeks he was back to his self within a month I had my kid back! His pediatrician, neurologist, and psychiatrist all concurred it was the Singulair hands down. He had every test under the son that is why he seen the neurologist and the psychiatrist. SO just beware it could sneak up on you when you least expect it. But hey all wasn't loss at least his asthma didn't act up. After all it may have worked great for that but the side effects by far was not worth it. It took a year before the side effects reared it's ugly head. So please be sensitive to those who post on here. Yes it may work for some. This site is designed to share side effects not to bash parenting skills or make others second guess what is the right thing to do.

I have a kidney disease - minimal change disease - which was diagnosed in 2000. Started out on 60 mg of prednisone every day, got close to completely tapering off and the disease symptoms returned. Increased the dosage, tapered again, and finally was off the medication about 10 months later. Had all the same symptoms that everyone has shared. It was horrible. Thankfully I went into remission for 5 years. In September 2005, the disease reared its ugly head again. I started taking 120 mg of prednisone every other day for one month, then 100 mg for one month, then 60 mg for a month. Now I'm taking 40 mg for a month and the taper will hopefully continue. I still have some side effects, gained 15 lbs., moon face, a little difficulty sleeping, water retention in my hands and legs but it seems like it's manageable this time around. Maybe taking the prednisone every other day is the difference.

Hi everyone,
I am off yasmin almost 2 months now, and I have to say it does get better, but the week before my period the same old symptoms seem to raise their ugly head, im sure it will just take more time to calm down "I hope". I have been doing some research about other brands of BC'S and I am really unsure about which other brand to try, I think they all have similar effects, has anyone heard of the bc called Ciliest, do you gain weight on it or are there any obvious side effects with this pill. If anyone knows can you please let me know.
Hope you are all doing better soon (:

hi chris35.
it is really common for the anxiety to rear it's ugly head again when you are due to get your period,i am off yasmin 6 months now and it is starting to ease off,i am getting used to it now so don't freak out as much as i used to! there is no set time for when things will improve.just know that they will.if you can avoid taking another bcp i would as your hormones are still really messed up at the moment. hopefully you will see more improvements in the coming months,it does get better month by month. slowly but surely.
