I find some of these posts interesting because it seems as if some folks either do not completely read the dosing instructions that come with all medications when they are picked up from a pharmacy or given by a doctor, or they just choose to ignore them. I have been on Doxy for six months for the treatment of Lyme and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. It's been no picnic at times but I feel 100 times better than before I started it. When I started taking Doxy, I too didn't pay much attention to the dosing instructions and I learned the hard way with some uncomfortable side-effects. Here are a few recommendations from someone who has been taking this drug long-term. 1. You must eat! Eat a small snack (banana, crackers, fruit) before you take the drug. Do not take it with something that you know upsets your stomach, also do not take it with dairy or any supplements containing magnesium or iron. 2. After taking the drug, eat another small snack, same as in #1. Avoid any of the supplements or dairy listed above for at least two hours. 3. Imperative!!! Take a good probiotic regularly (30-50 billion cfu). Antibiotics are designed to kill stuff in your body. They do not distinguish between bad and good however. You need the probiotic to replace the good bacteria in your digestive tract, otherwise your body will not digest properly. I was constipated for quite some time before I figured this one out. 4. I saw a few other folks mention this one. Do not lay down immediately following taking the drug. Again, I learned the hard way, I had severe GERD for a time as well. 5. Avoid long-term sun exposure. This was the latest. My skin has always had some natural pigmentation in it for a white guy and I have not burned too easily. On the Doxy though, I found out that I burn extremely fast. I guess I will be under an umbrella at the beach in a few weeks. 6. Don't panic! This drug was made to fight infections/disease. Be prepared for some side-effects, but also don't be afraid to see your doctor if they are just unbearable. All people do not respond to medications in the same manner. What works for you or me might not work for someone else. I hope this information helps someone out there. I know it is incredibly frustrating when you are taking something to cure an illness and more things go wrong.

Hello-

I got my Mirena inserted about two and a half months ago. I got my first period and have not stopped bleed since. I also have a foul odor all the time that it very embarrassing!! My doc keeps telling me that I have Group Strep B and that I have always had it...I am 27 years old with two children. I have NEVER had any issues down there!!! I am beginning to think that my odor is a S/E from the Mirena. It's also very embarrassing when I am with my husband. He is very understanding and acts very cool about the whole thing, but I don't want him having to deal with this either. Has anyone else experienced an odor?? I did read that Vaginitis is a possible S/E with Mirena.

9 months after marriage, prostate cancer was discovered. The choice was surgury or Lupron with radiation. I chose the latter because radiation is pervasive and could pick up micro cancerous cells as well in the vicinity of the prostate. I experienced the usual symptoms from Lupron, but the prolong effect, 2 years after ceasing injections is lethargy and laziness. In addition to insomnia and weight gain, some 15 Lbs and a breasts simiar to Cushings syndrom. But I am alive, because the actuaries for cancer are 4 years to death and it is a miserable death. So I am grateful. There is no sex drive, neither with Viagra and I no longer have the desire, but I owe a responsibility to my new wife, who has told me it does not matter, but I am sure that she would be much happier if I could perform that ritual. The most important ailment which affects me is my inability to generate income due to tiredness, sleeplessness and memory loss which leads to poor decision making and certainly less aggression. These are the symptoms that have remained after the hot flashes and the noctornal presperation has past. Prior to cancer inception, I had the discipline to make the 6 AM swim at the YMCA for a mile. Now I am trying to get into the pool twice a week for 1/4 mile after which I have to repair to bed for an hour to recover. Medicine has pushed us too far past the normal limit of existance and we should not be ungrateful for that if uncomfortable side effects accompany our efforts for preservation on this earth. I am grateful for Lupron for its curative effect regardless of the side effects

I just started taking amibid today and I will stop taking it tonight. It has had very uncomfortable side effects on me. I have felt dizzy and very spacy. Also, it had some similar effects to a drug ectasy in as much as colors were vibrant, peoples' voices were very loud and seemed to come at me all at once. None of the other effects of ectasy like the feeling soooo happy but I did find myself thinking and saying things that you might say thinking things seemed very surreal at times and how much my friends meant to me. Some very strange things. Hopefully stopping it tonight won't be harmful but I just can't function like this.

I was prescribed Levaquin for a urinary tract infection. After one dose, I felt very much better and continued for 7 days. However, I did experience some uncomfortable side effects. I gained a lot of water weight which hopefully will come off now that I am off it. Also, I have been very sore in my joints and muscles and didn't know it could be a side effect until I found this site. I feel like I spent the last week doing very heavy work..it is hard to get up from a sitting position and I ache all over.

I also have been experiencing what feels like severe heartburn. Even after drinking plain water.

Another thing I experienced right away and throughout the course of treatment was shakiness, almost like I was going to pass out.

Today I feel somewhat less shaky though still very sore. I stopped Levaquin yesterday and am hoping I will feel better soon.
