It's nice to know that I'm not alone..

I got Mirena in November 08, and since then I've developed a plethora of unpleasant side-effects. Initially, I couldn't put them all together. As I'd had a fainting spell and some restless legs a few months prior to getting Mirena, I've been concerned that all of my symptoms were stemming from a nutritional deficiency like folate or b12 anemia. Nothing seemed to quite fit exactly right though, and I take vitamins regularly, so I was perplexed until last night. After googling "tingly feet" and "heartbeat" I stumbled onto one of these forums.

I have felt like a crazy person all of this year, and I am now quite certain that it's from Mirena. Feeling foolish that I didn't see this sooner.. but I guess I we perceive what we want to, and I was happy to have easy birth control.

I've NEVER had heart palpitations, this kind of foggy-headedness, anxiety like this, unexplainable nausea, tingling in my feet, or depression before. My dizziness and fatigue alone had me fearing for my health, and my extreme mood swings had me fearing for my life.

I'm getting this removed as soon as possible.
Clearly I could've done my pre-Mirena research better, but the pamphlet and pep-talk I was given did not mention everything that I've been going through. I'm a little pissed, to be honest.. but mainly relieved.

I think I'm going back to the Nuvaring.. I'd rather bleed than be a dysfunctional, ill, zombie-person.

I have had Type 1 Diabetes for many years (54) without any complications of the disease - until I had a mild stroke. Which didn't affect me. Now my doctor makes me take Lipitor. From the very start of taking 10mg Lipitor per day, I got muscle cramps and leg twitches whilst in bed; muscle weaknesses; I even got Plantar Fasciitis and now I limp slightly in that foot. Before I took Lipitor I used to sleep like a baby. Lipitor has made me from a relatively healthy person despite having Diabetes to what feels like an old lady at aged 55. I know it is Lipitor as when I stop taking the drug all unpleasant side effects mentioned above cease. The trouble is my doctor won't give my Insulin without Lipitor and I need Insulin to live, of course. So I am forced to take Lipitor. I find that exercise such as a good long walk during the daytime helps; without it (eg in bad weather when I cannot get outside) the effects of Lipitor are much worse. My cholesterol readings and blood pressure are always good (even before the stroke) so why should I have to be almost crippled by Lipitor?

I have many of the same symptoms as everyone else... miserable stomach pain, diarrhea, terrible headache and heartburn. this drug is awful. I've never had this sort of reaction to an antibiotic before. Today is only day 4 and i'm afraid to take the pills. Has anyone heard that the side effects get better as your body gets used to the drugs?? I'm in the middle of taking exams and I was worried about this throat and ear infection interfering with my studying. I think I could have managed the infection better than these drugs.

For me, nothing but good. I felt significantly better within days of starting it, and have had no unpleasant side effects at all, not one. No weight gain, no diminished libido, nothing bad. It's been absolutely fantastic for me. It's been 3 years for me.

Most comments on here are from women who recently started taking Yaz. Their opinions are biased. When you start taking a new pill of any kind, your body has to adjust to it. Yaz, along with other birth control pills are going to have some unpleasant side effects because look at what they are doing to your body. They are stopping a natural occurring process that your body has done for years. So if you just started taking Yaz, and the symptoms are unpleasant, but bearable, keep taking it. You will feel better. However, if you are on the extreme end, then stop. Coming here to complain really is not going to make you feel any better, because yes, we are all having side effects. When i first started taking Yaz, I was an emotional/anxious mess. My breasts and back were sore, nausea, and flu like symptoms. Yes, they sucked. But now, they were worth it. I feel good. People just need to give their bodies the necessary amount of time for their bodys to adjust, and if you don't want to, stop taking the pill.

Weaning off Lexapro for about 2 months now after taking it for 3 years. Went to every other day with a full pill, now down to every other day with 1/2 pill. I have experienced several unpleasant side effects. Most unusual, my breasts are very sore and barely touching them is painful. Anyone else experiencing this problem as well? How long will this last? Please let me know that I'm not the only one, I haven't read about this side effect.

I have been on Aviane for a little less than a year. It was prescribed to me by a clinician, she said it was cheaper than the one I had been on. SInce I started this pill Ive gained thirty pounds, my acne is worse than it was when I was 14 (i am 21), I have had numerous yeast infections as well as a yeast infection and a bacterial infection at the same time. Both of the Doctors ive seen about that said it was almost impossible. I never had any issues with yeast infections until i went on this pill and I continue to get them about every two months. Once this script is out I and def off this pill! I have been on four different kinds of birth control, some with unpleasant side effects but never like this. I can relate to everyone on this page at some point or another.

I have been taking percocet for pain and it is prescribed for me to take 1 or 2 every 6 hours not to exceed 8 per day. However, since the effects of 1 or 2 do not last 6 hours I take 1 every 3 hours at the most. Sometimes I skip a dose if I am managing pain without them. At first, they seemed powerful and made my head feel foggy. I only took them at night to help sleep with pain. Since taking them again, I have developed a tolerance very quickly. I need to take more to sustain pain relief, but I do not have too many unpleasant side effects. They help me sleep and manage pain, but I get extremely constipated, have strange dreams and get impatient and emotional pretty easy -- but the emotional impatience is also a side effect of extreme pain.

I have been on Paxil off and on now for about 5 years.... the current length of treatment for the past 1 1/2 years. I need to be on it ( or something for that matter ) for my panic disorder. I am a 36 year old nurse/ manager and some days was almost debilitated by panic attacks. Depression was part of it, but not nearly as much as panic. I must say, that I have been experiencing memory loss now for about a year.... I thought maybe it was due to overwork/ stress...which I do understand it COULD be. However, I find it interesting that I am seeing so many more people with memory loss than I imagined. Is it due to stress in this type of people's lives, or is it in fact, the drug Paxil?
Keep in mind this is an SSRI ( Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitor ) ~~ even though there is no solid evidence (YET!) this is a side effect of the drug, I would bet my license on the fact that that it is!
I have tried time and time again to wean myself off of Paxil.. ( with and without my Dr's advice )--- I did succeed for a few years to be without the medicine, however being on a slew of other meds in the interim did not help as much for the panic as does the Paxil. Paxil, honestly, scares the hell out of me!
Besides the "numb emotions", memory loss, sexual appetite decrease, yawning, lack of sleep, etc... the side effects of coming off of it are worse! As I read earlier, it IS addictive, indeed! The brain gets used to the drug being there ( as with any addiction ), and the "surges" of dizziness, sweats, and out-of-body-like experiences I experience coming off of the drug are excruciatingly harder to bare than the depression itself. Those above symptoms of withdrawal are just that....withdrawal!
Once your body is "allowed" to reuptake serotonin (as it is supposed to), this is when those symptoms raise their head...sometimes for weeks or months until they subside.
I would welcome anyone with help on this matter---is there another Drug out there that can help with anxiety/depression symptoms, and not cause the plethora of side effects we have all discussed here?
Diane

I am a 47 year old female recently diagnosed with high blood pressure. I started it 10 days ago and after 3 days I started had a tickle in my throat which made me have coughing, hacking and gagging to the point of vomiting. I can't sleep at night and during my work day which is constantly talking to people I have to excuse my self to have my "coughing fit". My head of course is pounding from coughing constantly. I saw the Dr. last week and she thinks I have a virus of some sort. After reading all of these side effects of everyone who has experienced similar symptoms I am 100% sure it is the Lisinopril. If I were truly sick the cough would have gotten better or worse at this point but it has stayed the same. I am so upset all the time about this that my blood pressure has probably increased! The cough has gotten so annoying that I stayed home from work today and I decided to stop the medication. I would almost rather die(drastic!) than deal with this horrible cough!

I have been on Yasmin for one week and it has been horrible. I have been nauseous everyday, but not actually throwing up, which is almost worse b/c you just don't get any relief. I have quite literally not felt like myself- emotional, moody, dis-interested, un-motivated. I am not at all prone to depression or mood swings so it's been a very pronounced change. I am defintely going to stop taking it as I have never had such unpleasant side effects from a pill before. Usually they have been more physical, but the side effects for me from this pill have been physical and psychological. Reassuring to know that I'm not the only one to have this kind of adverse reaction.

I have only been on it for 8 days, but it has been wonderful for me. I suffer from nearly daily migraines. My migraines are brought on by strong smells like smoke, or perfume. The first day I was on Singulair, I went on a field trip to a farming community with my daughter. This is usually enough to have me in bed with an aching headache for a week, but instead I got a mild migraine late that afternoon. My imitrex knocked it right out. The next day, I cleaned house all day, no headache even with cleaning chemicals. Now 8 days later, I haven't had to take any migraine medicine at all. Three nights this week, my neighbor has burnt grass (a major trigger for me) and still no headache. I may get side effects later, but for now, this has been a godsend to me. It has my allergies under control and I can now go out to dinner without fear of smelling smoke, or too much perfume. I can work in my yard again.
If you are having side effects, try something else. I have had terrible side effects from medicines before so I know they do exist. I wish you luck in finding the one that works for you.

Hello.

I have been taking topamax for bipolar II disorder. The first week or so, I experienced some very unpleasant side effects. I would become very disoriented while driving and get lost in locations that had previously been very familiar to me. I would also lose track of my thought process mid-sentence. An avid runner, I was unable to exercise for about a week. However, these side-effects have since subsided. I do experience a decrease in appetite, which is fine for now, but I'll have to see how that pans out in the future.

One thing I'd like to point out is that I would imagine topamax to be very unpleasant for somebody who does not have a mood disorder. I feel that it truely restrains my impulses (I suffer from impulse control disorder), and it has worked wonders for me in terms of my mental illness. I believe that topamax is a great alternative to some of the other medications for bipolar disorder in terms of weight gain. On the other hand, I think that those who do not require psychiatric attention would be better off with a drug that does not serve as a mood stabilizer.

That's just my opinion. Good luck!

Severe numbness in lower arms and legs throughout night, chronic giant urticaria, systemic thrush with constant dry, itchy and inflamed mouth and throat. Severe hot flushes. At one point, I had 4 months off work as at times my joints swelled after urticaria attacks to the po0int where i couldn't walk or move my wrists etc. Acute pain, sickness, excessive mucus and more. I take 2x2 Symbicort per day, plus 8x2 ventolin per day.I also have severe water retention, weight gain and bloatedness. My worst symtoms kicked off after taking diclofenic acid (volterol) for back pain. I had never previously had any side effects with short term use of volterol, but I had previously been on becotide and sabutamol inhalers. Once starting on Symbicort, all other mediction, even paracetomol have resulted in severe and unpleasant side effects. Has anyone else had anything like this?

I have been taking Advair 500/50 for 4 years. My Asthma is much better. I do have unpleasant side effects such as sinus congestion, muscle cramps, and red/purple bruises. However, if I wasn't breathing, none of these side-effects would matter.
My immune system is overactive that that is probably why I have asthma and so many strange side-effects.So until something better comes on the market, I will continue to take Advair and work with my doctors to control the side effects.

I feel relieved to know that I am not going crazy, that many others are having unpleasant side effects to Singulair. I am 28 years old and started taking this medication about a month and a half ago for allergy induced asthma. Things were great for about a week, I was breathing great, never short winded, I could sleep at night breathing through my nose for once even.

Then came the second week on the drug. I realized I was getting restless at night, having horribly vivid dreams. I'm constantly nauseous and just starting to get more irritable, aggressive, depressed, tired. I bruise really easlily now, get terrible muscle spasms and cramps in my legs and feet. I've been waiting this out to see if it gets any better for I know these can be side effects, but I have just had enough. I'm thankful for this website, and the people who are telling their complaints. I will be stopping the medication tonight, and will have to consider other alternatives like allergy shots etc.

I have had 3 shots at 6 month intervals and the last was probably about a year ago. My doctor and nurse did not inform me of any side effects.

My hayfever remained and I developed a rough patch of skin on top of right buttock which developed into a dent. The skin inside the dent which is about 3 thumbsizes wide and deep is uneven and looks celulittey it is often a purpley colour. I was sent to see a specialist dermatologist at hospital who proceeded to do a biopspy. Still no mention of kenalogue... The biopsy was inconclusive and they decided I may have morphoea which they treated me for - unsuccessfully.

I recently saw a specialist for my hayfever who found out about my kenalog jabs and warned me off it saying it was dangerous for muscles. I put 2 and 2 together saw this site and realise now that all I have been mistreated for morphoea, put through a biopsy and all for nothing. Kenalog has caused my indentation.

I am angry and considering legal action - they have wasted my time for the last year of not knowing and being mis treated and more importantly why are we not told that this drug poses such unpleasant side effects. I would never have had it done if I'd known!!!!

Our doctors did not give us all the information about this drug so we could make an informed choice! We are victims of thier neglect!

I've been on Yasmin for close to two years now and started experiencing unpleasant side effects six months ago. Side effects include nausea, vomiting, stomach tenderness, breast tenderness, severe diarrhea and severe gas. I've been on other birth control pills such as Ortho Tri-cyclen and Allesse but they did not control my acne and made me gain a lot more weight, even when I took them in conjunction with Spironilactone. I also noticed my moods are much better on Yasmin, but the diarrhea and gas have gotten out of control. I spoke with my gyn about this and since I've been diagnosed with PCOS, she told me this is the only pill out there that will take care of the acne and excess hair. When I told her about the gas and diarrhea she looked at me like I was crazy. I'm glad to see I'm not the only one out there experiencing unusual side effects and I'm absolutely certain now that the Yasmin is causing it. The only problem is I don't know what other pill to switch to that will clear my skin up, regulate my moods, not let me gain too much weight and not interfere with sexual activity. Any suggestions?
