I have been taking Yaz for six months now, and I'm stopping after I finish this pack. I've been on it this long because I thought at first the side effects caused by it were just the beginnings of aging for me (I'm 25), but the acceleration of my problems has been so noticeable that I can't be in denial any more! Basically, here's what I have:
-thinner hair that comes out more easily and doesn't grow back as fast (it would be nice if this were restricted to "unwanted" hair, but this actually includes my eyelashes, eyebrows and head hair, which have all gotten noticeably lighter and thinner)
-CELLULITE, which I never had before...not only on my thighs but on my bum and CALVES, I didn't even realize it was possible to get cellulite there!
-spider veins on my upper thighs, again, never had this before
-very decreased sex drive
-thinner skin with less elasticity
-memory problems
-much increased vaginal discharge
Now, it's not all losses...my boobs are bigger when I actively take the pills, and my skin has become less acne prone...but is all that other stuff really worth it??? I think not.

So far so good.
I was prescribed Yaz to help with my PCOS symptoms, and I'm still working on my first pack. I was told this medication had an ingredient that helped lower testosterone, so I decided I'd try it out to slow down the growth of unwanted hair.
The first few days I was extremely tired and was having strange dreams, and I would occasionally get an uncomfortable feeling in my chest. I had stopped exercising for a couple weeks, so I began again hoping it would help. The fatigue now is completely gone, and I'm not having mood swings. I lost a lot of weight in the first two weeks, but I'm sure it was mostly water weight.
My period is usually extremely painful, but this month I experienced almost no pain (which was awesome). My period lasted longer than usual, and I'm having spotting, but it's nothing unbearable. Too much caffeine seems to make the uncomfortable feeling in my chest come back, but other than that, I have no complaints.

I am a 25 year old, who was perfectly healthy prior to recently when I was diagnosed with Nephritic Syndrome and Minimal Change Disease and possibly FSGS (kidney diseases) I was put on 60 mg of Prednisone for 1 month then I was lowered to 40 mg for one month and I am then dropping to 30 mg. I am also taking Fosamax for my bones and a Vitamin D pill because my last lab test showed low vitamin D levels.
I am dizzy constantly and can not live a normal life, I can not drive or do any activities that I had previously done. My chest is so tight and constricted all of the time, my heart rate is so fast and pounds at my chest. I have no energy to do anything, I can barely open a door at times. I am beginning to grow unwanted hair on my face. My abdomen is always bloated. I have pain in my rib cage, and shoulders. I feel very sore throughout my entire body. I do not really sleep at night, so I look very tired all the time.
I have actually lost weight, I have no appetite at all. I am down 10-15lbs.
Now for the Pro- my Kidney Diseases are currently in remission and this has happened much faster than the Nephrologist had thought.
I am very anxious to getting my life back to normal and getting off the Prednisone.
Has any one else experienced increased heart rate, chest tightness, or rib pain?
I wish everyone the best in their roads to recovery!!

I have just been reading the list of, what I am considering to be "possible", side effects from Dilantin . Doesn't everyone, whether on Dilantin or no drugs at all experience headaches, nausea, stomach pains or depression from time to time?
After being on this medication for over 30 years there are some things which I've experienced. Just about everyone complains of hyperplasia but it has been my experience that if I maintain a clean healthy mouth, there is no hyperplasia. If, for one day, I do not brush my teeth, hyperplasia sets in immediately & it then takes a week or so to get it under control. So, brush, brush & brush your teeth.
As far as memory loss or difficulty learning, I suppose it happens to everyone at one time or another. However I have graduared from high school with honours & became a registered nurse (top 5 in my class of 56) all while I was on Dilantin.
The only true adverse side effect from taking Dilantin for over 30 years which I experience is that whenever I am tired, my speech can easily slur. I am very aware of this & it's become habit to pay close attention to my pronounciation & correct it so I may articulate normally. Not a big deal & a very small price to pay.
I'm not one for pity trips or blaming my seizures or medications for my downfalls in life. I am so grateful to have my seizures under control & hate to think where I would be today if not for Dilatin. Remember, if you look for it , you will likely find it. So try not to look for all these adverse side effects (crutches)& see the benifits. We have enough to handle keeping this under control & educating the sometimes ignorant world.
I took control of the epilepsy that attacked my system. I would never allow it to control me. Good luck to all of you. Sincerely :)

Hello, since starting yasmin 3 months ago after having a break from my previous pill (Microgynon) for nearly a year, i am having terrible mood swings, im sure my skin has actually got worse, and more upsetting to me, i have put on nearly a stone in weight despite actually upping my exercise regime and starting a healthy eating plan.
I am planning to come off yasmin in a weeks time at the end of the current pack but am really concerned about unwanted hair growth as a result of coming off the pill...im sure it happened last time, has anyone had trouble with this after stopping Yasmin? Thanks for ur help, S

I found this web site today and I could not stop sobbing. I have been diagnosed with 'stress' and anxiety, and was given cymbalta and zanax which made all my Yasmin symptoms that much worse. I knew I wasn't suffering from stress-the symptoms and the lack of a correct diagnosis were causing me stress.
My side effects began the first month I was on Yasmin. I called my doctor to complain of the nausea, weight loss, spotting, and general "yuck" feeling I had. I was told to keep taking it and that those symptoms were normal for the first four months. The nausea did indeed go away, so did the weight loss and spotting.
I took Yasmin for the next (nearly 3) years. I now have the full blown symptoms which crept up on me and have been misdiagnosed since November '05. My side effects include awful constant chest pain, chest pressure, chest fluttering, occasional pain in my left upper arm, pain under my jaw, occasional breathlessness, mental unclearness, hair loss, unwanted hair growth, depression, nightmares, sweats, thoughts of dying, mood swings, weight gain, bad headache during my period, and a feeling that I was going crazy!
I am both saddened and relieved to see I am not alone. After leaving a cardiologist who told me there was nothing wrong with me, I decided to look into this nagging suspicion I had about Yasmin. I had been taking Low Ogestrel (sp?) for years without incident. At my 2003 gyno visit my doctor switched me to Yasmin because "it is better". I remember thinking he must have some incentive to switch me to a new brand when I didn't have a problem with the one I was on. That first month I was on Yasmin I didn't feel well and called my gyno.. Then I just trusted and let it go, after all my initial side effects seemed to go away.
I have been to several doctors including my family doctor, the ER doctor and a cardiologist for this nightmare. I have told each one that I am taking birth control pills yet not one even asked me what kind. That bugged me and eventually led me to this site with the hope of finding my syptoms listed. I have an appointment to see my gyno. this week. He has been away since my discovery. I hope there is something to be done. I can't stand living like this. This is not me. Thank you for sharing your stories, it is the most help I have recieved so far-I am not alone and someone out there 'gets' it. I am going to show these stories to my doctor in the hope that he will inform his other Yasmin taking patients to be on the look-out for these symptoms. I do not wish for anyone to suffer as I am. Good luck to you all.

I was put on Yasmin because it was the cheapest thing the health department could get. When I was on it I made my mother cry for no reason, I was NOT a nice person at all I would bite anyone’s head off for no reason. The health department wouldn’t change it, so I stopped taking it. Me and my husband was talking about having a baby anyway. That was almost 2 years ago still no baby. And I bleed for months at a time. The last period I had was from JANUARY 2nd 2009 until JULY 5th 2009.. Non stop. That was what 3 weeks ago.. And my period started back up on the 20th and I still have it. I knew Yasmin was messing with my body in the first month. No one would listen to me. So now I have to live with it because aint a thing I can do about it. For the past 3 years I’ve had headaches, dizziness, my legs and arms hurting and going numb, my heart hurting feeling like its going to blow up at any minute. Unwanted hair. All I want to do is sleep. So who ever found out it was the pill and I’m not crazy thank you..
