I have been on Yasmin now since around 2004-2005.

I just recently started experiencing really severe mood swings, I would go so far as to say that I have become enraged over things that are so insignificant and that would normally would not bother me even on a bad day. This anger that usually starts right before my period made me start thinking that it might be from my birth control, even though it has only been an issue over the past six months. I have never in my life suffered from PMS, so this was very out of the ordinary for me, but I just assumed I was over stressed and ignored it.

I started looking up side effects of Yasmin, and came across this site which sent me into absolute shock.

Everything listed here by other people, I have experienced over the past four or five years. It all makes sense to me now after reading about other woman's experiences while taking this medication.

I started seeing a GI doctor in 2005 because of extreme diarrhea, nausea, fatigue, dizziness. They ran multiple tests and scans, I had an endoscopy and a colonoscopy which showed irritation. I've been on multiple medications for what they assume is IBS. I was also diagnosed that same year with asthma because of extreme shortness of breath. I am on asthma medication and inhalers because I get very short of breath with exercise which was never an issue in the past. I was 110 pounds, and healthy and active in 2005. I then started to gain weight, and at my heaviest I reached almost 180 lbs (and I am only 5ft 2in tall).

I have since lost weight, but can't seem to get below 140 lbs no matter how much I try. In March of this year I started having extreme pain in my right upper abdomen, and was told I had gallstones and needed to have my gallbladder removed.

It is just makes me so angry to know that no one is doing anything about this and this medication is still being prescribed to women. It angers me that my doctor's knew that I was on this medication and never once questioned that it may be the birth control making me sick. I don't even think the doctor's are aware themselves.

I have been on birth control since I was sixteen to help regulate my periods, and I am now twenty-eight. I have always had difficulty with the pill and have tried many different types of birth control medications. My doctor recommended Yasmin to me because they though I might have poly-cystic ovarian syndrome even though the tests never confirmed it. I will take my chances because I am not taking birth control ever again!

Pregnant or not pregnant?

I'm updating my previous post. I went to my GP on Friday and had another urine pregnancy test done which was also negative. She sent me for a blood analysis for which the results will be back sometime this week.

I told my doctor I wanted the mirena removed regardless. She said to wait a couple of weeks and then come back and we'll discuss my reasons for wanting it out, etc. Where I live here in Canada, it's not the GP who inserts or removes it, I would need to be referred to an OBGYN. It would be a bit of a wait, with first the two weeks to go back and see my GP and then wait for a referred appointment with the OBGYN. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands.

After reading a post on here from a woman who removed hers, I was a little worried about doing it myself, but decided to see if I could. I chose to remove it in the bathtub because after not having a period since August or September, I started to bleed on Thursday night and had sever pain in my upper abdomen, the same area that has swelled. Once in the bath, I shifted onto my left side, lifted my right leg and felt for the strings. I lost my grasp on them twice before I was able to keep hold. I very slowly and very gently pulled them down and sure enough, was able to remove the mirena. I felt pressure, no pain. I was surprised, because it was quite painful when I had it inserted.

I am glad to be rid of that little device. Today I feel less anxious and less irritable. I have no more pain in my belly, though it is still swollen. And lo and behold, my bleeding has stopped.

Some may say I just expected my symptoms to vanish after removing it, but for the bleeding to just stop? I still have the body aches, which I am hoping will get better. And I don't want to over analyze. I will see how it goes over the next week and post an update here.

And please, don't remove it yourself based on what I have said here. I'm sure it depends on whether any tissue has grown around it, etc., as to whether or not it will hurt, or if there will be any kind of bleed out, pain, etc. I am just saying it worked for me.

Mirena free and loving it!

I had posted wed. morning that I was getting it taken out, well my doctors office said they had to check with my ins. comp. just to see if they would even cover it which to me meant big money for a simple procedure. After waiting 3 hours for a return phone call I got irritated and my husband helped me to remove it. I was hoping that I would get immed relief from the horrible pains I was having in my upper abdomen and back but it took exactly 12hrs from time of removal to feel better. Today I still felt sick like I could throw up but after I got some water in me I feel much better. I was unable to eat or drink much in the last 24hrs. It didn't hurt at all to get it out and I am glad I did. I feel better just knowing it is gone! Good luck to everyone I hope the people who are suffering get relief soon.

When my daughter was 15 her dr suggested she get the vaccine. Trusting the doctors advice, i ok'd it. The first two injections were fine. Immediately after receiving her 3rd, her arm, neck, and shoulder got really sore and then about two weeks later she developed severe pain in her upper abdomen causing her to pass out. That was on November 22, 2007 and she hasn't been the same since. She has suffered severe pain, nausea, dizziness, fatigue, IBS, anxiety attacks and depression brought on by the sickness. Our life for the past year has consisted of going to doctor after doctor trying to figure out what is wrong with her. She has been diagnosed with mono, UTI's, had her gal bladder removed, etc. Funny, they diagnose her with all these things but no treatments have worked. She went from being a very beautiful, active 15 year old girl with lots of friends and activities to barely being able to get out of bed in the morning. My question is, does anybody know how to help or what to do ?

EXTREME PSYCHOTIC SIDE EFFECTS

I want to preface this by stating that I have never had any mental problems aside from occasional depression, and I have never taken any anti-depressants, or similar drugs, or even ever done any illegal drugs, nor do I drink.

I never would have thought in a million years that an antibiotic would have given me such extreme mental side effects. I was given Z-Pak after a tooth extraction as I had a bad (and similar) reaction to Clindamycin.

I was on the 250 MG X 3 days. After the first day I started to suffer from depersonalization. Depersonalization, in my opinion, is the worst thing that can happen to anyone. Essentially I felt like I was dead, in limbo. Nothing mattered. I questioned reality. I felt like a ghost. It was so bad that I had to break out the Bible.

I had to take Valium in order to sleep, as I would wake up in the middle of the night and have an utterly terrifying feeling of dread. I would wake up and "realize" that I did not exist and have a panic attack.

It has been since December 2nd and only now am I feeling anything close to normal mentally.

Ever since day 5 after taking the drug, I have a burning sensation in my upper abdomen on both sides and a pain in my right side. I just pray to God that this damned drug has not burned out my liver.

Worse yet, I had to be put on Doxycycline, as the Z-Pak did not work, and my extraction site became reinfected.

Thank God the Doxycycline is apparently working with no side effects.

The only positive thing about my horrific experience with Z-Pak is that I went to confession and communion and have accepted Jesus as my savior again in my life.

I also have realized that hell does not need the fire and brimstone. The depersonalization I suffered was the same as separation from God. It was the worse experience ever, and I have been through some tough stuff.

I realize that each drug affects everyone differently, but I have read too many posts listing mental side effects to think that my experience was an anomaly.

If you must take this antibiotic, be sure you understand that it can knock you on your ass if you are not expecting it.

I just read all of these posts and I have to tell you that I have been battling a so-called UTI for 3 weeks....I have been through two antibiotics, Cipro and Bactrum and I have had cultures come back negative...I have stomach pains in my upper abdomen so bad, nausea, loose stool. Dr's are still trying to figure out what the problems is; needless to say I am having this mirena removed on thursday and I have to tell you I CAN'T WAIT!!! This has totally controlled my life. I don't have any proof that this IUC is causing the problem but after reading all of this; word for word from other women, I'm sure it explains a lot. I wish I would have been warned of the UTI side effects long before I had it put in. I've had my Mirena for 2 1/2 years and I have been moody and no sex drive along with all of this and it makes me wonder...is this my problem. I'll let you know if I get better after Thursday.

I was on Lipitor for less than a week 2 years ago and the muscle pains were so bad that moving my head was painful. I called the doctor's office and was instructed to stop taking the medication; which I did and felt 'back to normal' within a few days. I haven't had my cholesterol checked since that time, or if I did before surgery, no one mentioned anything negative about it. However 6 weeks ago I had a heart attack. Apparently my cholesterol was twice what it should it have been, and my potassium was incredibly low. So I'm now on Lipitor (standard procedure after having a heart attack and high cholesterol seen as the cause of it) to ensure that another blockage does not occur.

The only problem is I'm now bloated even though I've changed my diet drastically (no more junk food or soft drinks, no 'white' flour products, no dairy products with more than 5% M.F and lots of veggies and fruits). I've lost 3 or 4 pounds but my pants are too tight around my waist, and now I have a my upper abdomen bulges over the waistline. Besides that, I get muscle 'kinks' in very places and after sitting for more than 10 minutes I limp when I take the first few steps.

People have told me to 'keep taking Lipitor and Plavix' but exercise more. The only problem with that is that I have a brain aneurysm and the neurosurgeons don't think it can be operated on 'without it being a very high risk procedure'. The first one ruptured 10 years ago and since then I've managed to control my blood pressure. However the meds I took for that was what lead to my potassium being so low that my electrolytes were imbalanced. That combination of low potassium and high cholesterol is what lead to the heart attack.

I'm 54 and feel as though I'm losing control of 'how' I feel. Between Lipitor, Plavix and diuretics and medication for hypertension I'm not sure if it's one drug in particular that's making me 'ache, limp and look like a blimp' or if it's because of the interaction of all of them. How do I decide 'what' to stop? What's more important to look after first - my heart or my brain?

I had cough for almost a month when I started to feel a light localized pain in the lower rib area, between the breast and the upper abdomen. ( when taking a deep breath or coughing). Then I was prescribed levofloxacin (levaquin) 500 for 10 days for a “supposed” pneumonia and sinusitis, no RX or lab tests done, by one pneumologist. Well, I felt others side effects but what really matters is that after 2 days taking the medication the pain worsen a lot, felt like a stab. I could not move in bed, was difficult to move, seat, get up, drive, work, whatever… In the fifth day I complained to the doctor who said I had muscular pain and the pneumonia was gone, but I should continue the 10 days treatment. So I did. After 7 days I felt when coughing that something was stretching and unsticking in the pain area. After the total disconnection the pain diminished a lot. Second week, back stabbing pain, third week front pain again, same type and disconnection, then diminished. Fourth week I felt something was loose , crackling in the area while driving or doing some movements. I also felt painful, loose knees and painful elbows. After many doctors, many exams and RXs done, now I know I had chronic bronchitis and costochondritis and I ended up with two ruptures of the costal cartilage, ( costochondral junctions ) 6ª and 7ª ribs, caused by levofloxacin. The RXs now show calcifications , body repairing the ruptures. I can not exercises now for 3 months. Ah…The sinusitis was back 2 weeks after stopping the medication. What I say now is: God protect us from some stupid doctors and these dangerous medicines !!!

I had TIA two years back, my neurologist put me on 80mg Lipitor (Lipiget in Pakistan). I have a whole list of problems since then: tingling in lower part of legs, memory loss, cold sweats, swelling in upper abdomen, lethargy, leg cramps and backache.

Wow.....after reading so many of the stories here, I am immediately stopping my prescription. While visiting another state I was hospitalized with fever, extreme tremors, and after having a burning pain in my upper abdomen. Was immediately put on IV Levaquin while tests were being run. After 3 days of numerous blood tests, urine tests and 2 CT scans the doctors determined I had a blood infection and the bacteria was E-coli (but not the kind that comes from eating something???). No determination was made as to where the infection came from. During this time I experienced extreme diareah, headaches, insomnia, pain in my right shoulder, extreme heartburn, acid reflux and loss of appetite. All these symptoms were reported to the doctor and nursing staff, but no relief (except a dose of Malox and 2 Tylenol every 4 hours if I asked for it, which offered no relief). They wanted to do more tests but I finally checked myself out with the promise I would see a doctor when I returned home and get more testing. Could barely walk without assistance of my husband for the first hour but improved drastically a couple hours later. Had the first best night's sleep that night. Boarded the plane the next morning with a prescription for Levaquin 500 (11 pills) and took the first one on the plane and within 10 minutes felt a warm rush spread through the back of my throat and into my head. Felt extremely exhausted immediately. After arriving home I felt normal again and the best I had in 4 days. I took my 2nd pill the next afternoon at the same time of day and again felt the same symptoms and went from fully functioning to barely making it to the bed. After a 2 hour nap I arose and within another hour was feeling well and "normal" again. Went shopping for some necessities but found it extremely hard to make a decision on anything and came home with unnecessary items and not the things I needed. Slept well that night and woke up to feeling "normal" and energetic. Shampooed my carpet and cleaned house until time to take the pill. Again, severe fatigue, warm rush in the back of throat and chest pain within 10 minutes. I found this site while researching side effects and am scared to take any more of this stuff. Am still feeling the side effects 4 hours later and not bouncing back like last night. I will immediately stop these pills!!!!!! If the infection comes back I will deal with that in some other way. Good luck everyone and hang in there. I will tell everyone I know about this drug.

I have been on Levaquin for 5 days and have had an ache and tightness in the back of my neck since the first day. I have slept very poorly for the last three nights and over the last two days have developed significant chest pain..feels like the muscles in my chest and upper abdomen are in a constant contraction. I went to my internist yesterday thinking it may be an unfamiliar type of asthma attack. I used my inhaler on the way and blood oxygen was fine when I got there but the chest pain continued. I was given a chest Xray and an EKG, both of which were fine. My doctor did not feel that it could be the Levaquin and advised me to continue it. The contractions in my chest have continued, almost crushing at times. The neck pain has been continuous. I am stopping the Levaquin and willing to risk having the infection return.

The side effects were sooooooooooooo bad,let say I had them all.Right now I'm dealing with the side effects of the evil Pill " Prednisone" Moon face and this awful bloating in my upper abdomen, tiredness, no energies, heavy legs. It makes it really hard for me to get out & around.I hope my doctor will get me off this Prednisone. Not only messes it up your normal living no it also makes you look like a ugly bulldog! I hate it!

About a month ago, I was diagnosed with high blood pressure (160/101). I am a 46 year old female in pretty good shape. I exercise weekly, eat pretty good, and I am not overweight or stressed. My doctor said it is hereditary, and he put on Verapamil and a diaretic for one month and my pressure did go down, but never went to the normal level (120/80). I was finally begnning to feel better and get back into my normal exercise routine. My doctor decided to add the Lisinopril and take me off the fluid pill along with the Verapamil. I took my first pill (Lisinopril) yesterday, and within a few hours, I started to feel nauseous and weak. By the time I got home from work I was feeling lightheaded, and sluggish and wasn't breathing normal. It was to the point that I didn't feel like going to my exercise class. I even struggled to walk my dog--moving a little slower than normal and got really overheated and it was 40 degress in my areaa. Then, later on that night, I woke up with this bad pain/cramping feeling in my upper abdomen that I have never felt before as well as diarrhea. I couldn't figure out what the problem was. It didn't feel like heartburn or gas and I usually don't have stomach issues. It keeped me up all night to the point I had to get up and walk around and sit up in the chair. So I took some pepto bismol because that was all I had, but it didn't help. I woke up this morning and felt a little better except my throat was beginning to feel dry. I took another Lisinopril, and the pain in my stomach immediately came back in my stomach. I will not be taking another one. I put a call into my doctor to give me something else because I don't like how I feel. I will see what he recommends, or I will take some herbal supplements to help balance my blood pressure with the Verapamil. I usually don't have problems with most durgs, but I noticed a big difference in this one. At first I was thinking my body has to get used to it, but after reading your emails, I would rather try something with a little less side effects. My doctor did tell me that if I started to get a dry cough to discontinue the Lisinopril, and call him immediately. I can feel my throat getting dry already this morning so I am not going to wait until I get a cough that I can't control. Just remember to consult your doctor before stopping your meds. I wish you all the best.

I have been on nuvaring for one year. I have been doing great! I am doing the continuous method. Recently, I have experienced "burning" sensation/indigestion in my stomach upper abdomen. Has anyone ever experienced this. I find it odd that this would be a side effect after being on ring for a year. Usually, side effects occur in 3 months of starting a new BCP. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Post your symptoms since stopping Yasmin!!!

Hey everyone it's Kay21 here and I just wanted to post my 3 month off Yasmin update. Because stopping the pill is a hard decision, I figured we should all post are updates here to help/support those who are planning to stop or who have recently stopped Yasmin.

I have been off of Yasmin since April 17. As some of you already know, I was experiencing horrible side effects while on Yasmin for 3 years (particularly stomach problems, vaginal dryness, muscle cramps, increased blood pressure and heart rate and anxiety).

The first 1 month off of Yasmin was okay. In fact, I felt the best I had ever felt in a while. My blood pressure and heart rate decreased and the migraines and muscle cramps went away. But when I hit the 2 month (8 week) mark, I felt HORRIBLE. I was severely depressed and anxious. I was crying all the time and felt a severe sense of DOOM! The physical symptoms also started to become problematic. The acne increased and I started growing more facial hair. The worse symptom, however, was that I started losing a ton of hair. I would lose stray hairs all day (probably about 200 a day). Since I have hit the three month mark, the hair loss has gotten MUCH WORSE! Now I am losing CLUMPS of hair all day. I have seen several doctors about this. Some say it's because of stress and a few (a derm, GYN and endo) say that hiar loss is common after stopping bcp. I have already loss about 1/3 of my hair.

I am also really concerned, because I have not had a period since April 22. So my doctor has put me on provera for 10 days to induce a period.

For those who have stopped Yasmin, what have your symptoms been (i.e. increased acne, weight gain, anxiety, etc.). Has anyone experienced hair loss? How long did it take to get a period???

Thanks...

I have been mistified lately by what has been going on with me. I have allergies that are not under control. I take Zyrtec and flonase. When I went into my Dr. complaining that I didn't feel well. She said it was allergies and that I should try Singulair since it has been approved for allergies. Well I felt better for a couple of days and then boom! Sore throat, ear popping, fatigue, neck stiffness, upper abdomen tenderness and swollen glands under my jaw. No fever though. I thought perhaps I had Mono. So I had the Mono test done and it was negative. Now I read these posts, and I am thinking it could be the singulair. I can barely function during the day, and have been taking 3 hour naps! Wow. I will stop taking it today and let you all know how I am doing in a couple of days!
