Dear Medications.com:
I cannot thank you enough for this site. Just yesterday I was prescribed Cipro for a nagging UTI which seemed to only partially get better with Doxycycline HYC. After only 3 Cipro pills I am stopping!! And will never take Cipro again. I take responsibility for rushing back to my doctor at the emergency care clinic and asking 'now what' after the Doxycycline was finished--we Americans are so quick to want the next candy pill with more strength! So even though my initial urinalysis showed no dangerous / STD bacteria present, because I was still urinating too frequently my doc suggested Cipro. I trusted him and took the first pill last night--I got a terrible headache, woke up promptly at 3:30 AM and had trouble returning to sleep. Got up this morning, took the 2nd pill and by early afternoon, was so tired and aching I had to lay down for 1.5 hrs..I felt miserable. Then this afternoon, after taking my 3rd pill, that's when I began to feel occasional tingling in my joints, hot pain in my knee capsules, continuing low-grade ache to my head, the feeling that my esophagus was shrinking, etc..... EVERYTHING you guys all have reported.
I got on the internet and thank God I found your site. After 2 hrs of my own research and the testimony of so many people, including tons of once-healthy, athletic persons whose lives have been destroyed irreparably by Cipro, I took my healthcare into my own hands, called my pharmacist and said 'I'm finished touching Cipro...never again will I take it.'.
This drug is more toxic than anything I've ever taken, and the way my body has begun to react in only 24 hrs, it is obvious that the drug co's are playing with fire on this compound. We as people must stand up and take action, and educate our doctors. I am taking some info. into him tomorrow, telling him i will be on a strict cranberry juice and kidney/liver tea detox program for the next few weeks to see if these 'natural' methods might help me rid my system of the bacteria.
In any case, I refuse to use Cipro ever again and hope that many more people will read these pages before ingesting any or too much of this dangerous drug.

Hi,
I have had my Mirena since March 2007 and until Nov 2008 have not had any real complications. I do still have a period, it's lighter but lasts just as long. In Nov 2008, I started having problems with dizziness, stomach pain, nausea and at the time I was diagnosed with an inner ear infection, I also had a CT scan done which was normal. But after taking the antibiotics as prescribed the symptoms persisted for 3 weeks then went away. It all started again in Feb 2009, waking with severe nausea every morning, loss of appetite, tired and stomach pain. I went to the ER and had bloodwork which was normal, and a urinalysis, which showed a UTI infection. I was given antibiotics for this, but yet the symptoms persisted for 3 weeks. Both of these episodes followed my menstrual cycle. After the last bout, in which I feel completely normal, it started again. My period was two weeks late this month (March 09) it started on March 18th and on March 19th I started experiencing all these symptoms all over again. I have, bloodwork, preg tests, a colonoscopy, a stool sample, and a pelvic ultrasound, all of which have been normal. I am scheduled in a week to have an ultrasound of my gallbladder, but I really don't think that's my issue. I have lost weight, have no appetite, and wake every morning at the same time with nausea. I am seeing my family Doctor again tomorrow, he has discussed sending me to an ENT, but he is also removing the IUD tomorrow. He is doubtful that it is causing these problems after two years, but said strange things happen so better remove it to be safe.

I had a CT with Isoview in Sept 08, experienced flu-like symptoms that same day and for the following week. Developed pain in both legs about 2 inches above my ankles, had a urinalysis was told I have a UTI. Currently taking Nitrofurantoin. The leg pain went away for a couple of days, but is now back.

I think it is interesting the symptoms that you mention here. I have been on birth control pills since the age of 19. I am now 28. Over the past year I have had similar symptoms. I have been on so many different BCP's that is is hard to keep count. They don't seem to work the way they claim to. The last BCP I was on was orthotryciclen. While taking these I began to experience severe heart palpitations. So bad that they would wake me up at night. Because I wasn't sure if it was an anxiety attack or just being in my head I decided to ignore it. Four months passed by and it seemed to get increasingly worse. I had enough and decided to go to my PCP. She wasn't really much help either. Although I was tested for Mitral Valve Prolapse, which I was told affects younger women my age. There was nothing found. What I thought was interesting is I really felt that it was the birth control pills, but I couldn't find it as a side affect on the information that was provided in the box. The tech who was doing my echocardiogram began to tell me she also experienced the same feelings and found out it was her BCP. Once she confirmed what I thought was right, decided to stop taking them. After three months the symptoms began to disappear. I figured it was just the particular brand. I began to take loestrin 24. I started to feel the same symptoms again, just not as severe. I would feel my heart beat when I would like down in my back and my stomach. My heart rate would reach 90 to 100 sometimes. I know this is not normal. When I visited my gyno yesterday she told me it was impossible that it was a result of the BCP. Maybe it was just anxiety and or perhaps I should get checked out by a cardiologist. That is serious stuff when you are talking to a young person about getting there heart check out. I think if there are any other women out there who are experiencing any similar symptoms should speak up. So these doctors won't keep telling us it is all in our heads and help to take care of this problem.

My 3 1/2 year old son has been on Singulair for 4 days now. Needless to say, I am grateful to have stumbled across this website when I googled "asthma medications, nosebleed" after he had the first spontaneous nosebleed of his life, yesterday. Since this had never occurred before, I wondered if his meds could have something to do with it. (He is also on Flovent and Ventolin as he has just suffered his second asthma episode in a month. He has been on both these meds before and I have not witnessed any notable adverse effects with these)
I have also noticed a slight shift in his attitude and willingness to do as he's asked since day 1 of Singulair. This is extremely unusual for my very sweet, cooperative, focused child. He also stated today that he did not love his older brother, whom he adores. He has actually hit me and kicked me on several occasions, which is so unlike my little momma's boy, it had me wondering about the Singulair even before I came across this website.
I am also wondering if anyone knows whether Flovent or Ventolin can cause extremely frequent urination? He is running to the bathroom every few minutes at times. (this was happening before starting on Singulair)
His urinalysis shows that he has no bladder infection and sugar is normal. Help!!!

I've been on and off of Yasmin for about a year now. It seems like every time I am on it and I have sex I develop irritation. I went to my OBGYN because I was scared out of my mind. I took every STD test you could think of and he finally told me it looked like I was having rough sex. I told him that my sex has not changed at all. I did an experiment and got off of it for a few months and didn't have any problems down there while I was off of it...but as soon as I got back on it I develop irritation after having sex. I also notice that my urine smells very different and I am thirsty all the time. I can never get enough water. I thought maybe this pill was causing me to have UTI's. Has anyone else had these problems?

Symptoms I have:
NOTES on health since day after I started the Lisinipril.
9-03-07 – started taking Lisinopril
9-05-07 – Saw Dr. for Bladder infection (left urinalysis with doctor). Prescribed a sulfite antibiotic for bladder infection.
9-06-07 – First symptoms began; trouble urinating
9-06-07 – Called Dr. Kuebals office to let them know that I was having trouble urinating. I also asked if they got the lab test (urinalysis) back yet. The nurse let me know that I had strep in my urine (very rare she said) but they will be prescribing me macrobid and to stop the first antibiotic.
9-06-07 – Began taking macrobid
9-11-07 – Unable to urinate at all
More symptoms after a few more days of taking this drug: Heart pounding in my chest, Achy skin, panic/anxiety attacks (hard to catch breath, heavy chest), Cold feet, hot sweats and chills, urinary retention, bladder infections, ultra sensativety (body to the touch), muscle cramps, arms, legs, back and neck feel heavy. I can't even lift my arms to fold clothes they get so heavy.
9-12-07 – went to the ER to get catheterized
9-14-07 – At hospitals request (doctor at hospital) saw a urologist although he thought that this was most likely a cause of the bladder infection and that I might have some swelling around the urethra or he also suggested that it might be caused by a tear or “stretch” in the urethra from not being able to urinate due to the pain of urinating. I didn’t not think that one, because as soon as I was not able to urinate, I knew that I would need a catheter until we figured out what was wrong.
9-14-07 – Removed catheter at urologist office
9-15-07 – Early am – went to ER again to get catheterized as I was still unable to urinate
9-19-07 – Went to CT Scan requested by Urologist
9-20-07 – Nurse removed 2nd Catheter at Urology Office and said to come back by four if I still could not urinate on my own.
9-20-07 – Researched Lisinopril to find UT could be caused by Lisinopril (medications.com) and saw the side effects that some people were having with this drug. Also learned that this was a derivative of venom from a Brazilian snake (thus the symptoms of feeling achy, sick, tired, muscle weakness and urinary retention
9-20-07 – Went back to urologist to let them know that I still could not urinate and they showed me how to self catheretize. Also, as of the evening of 9-19-07 stopped Lisinopril.
Between the ER doctors, my PCP and my Urologist, they have heard me complain about all of these symptoms but they refused to connect them to the Lisinopril.

I had 2 remicade infusions. I received benadryl 50mg IV before first infusion and had a terrible reaction to it. Rigor,shaking..at least an hour and while this was going on they administered remicade.
Bad headaches and some back pain ,nauseau first infusion. Infusion 2 neck pain, intolerable sinus head pain. Went to osteopath and most of the pain went away so it was from the stress of benadryl reaction. Hemoglobin dropped from 12 to 10.4 in 5 weeks but I also have genetic thalassemmia(anemia) and my diet ..well..almost none..vegetarian and iron content not as soluble.
Checked for rectal bleeding, urinalysis etc. All fine. Another cbc tomorrow and now dr. says if it's back up he knows it's the remicade and wants me off it(been stuffing myself with red meat, and all iron foods for nothing it seems) and if it isn't still no remicade. My skin has started clearing and now I will be very depressed once again after all of this..never mind the expense since my insurance company would not cover it.
Anyone else experience drop in hemoglobin drops?

Took leviquin 500 for 8 days before I realized what was happening to me. Side effects included: severe panic, altered mental state, constant sleep, loss of appetite, pounding heart rate. After 2 trips to the ER no help was provided. I stoped the Leviquin early (was supposed to take it for 3 wks) and immediately started feeling better. The anxiety is much less but still present and I still sleep all the time.
Has anyone had similar experiences and, more importantly, how long does this last?
Please help!

I have been taking Doxy off and on for about 3 years to treat mild adult acne (began at 34). When I first began it, my symptoms came under control right away, just taking 100mg once per day (as advised by my doctor, since I am known to have a sensitive stomach).
There was one morning that I got up early for a hair appointment, and took my pill with a glass of water on my way out the door. Bad idea! I felt a cramp on my left side that felt like a pulled stomach muscle, and since I lift weights, I dismissed it as an overworked abdomninal muscle. By the time I arrived home form my hair appointment, two hours later, I was in so much pain, I could barely get out of my car. I staggered to the house, believeing I was having pains associated with a kidney stone. Severe! Ended up being sent to the ER for a CAT scan. They found nothing, and urinalysis showed only signs of dehydration. This has not occurred again, as I am careful to drink lots of water now.
Most recently, I had (under the advice of my dermatologist) weaned myself off by taking it every-other day, then gradually less and less often.
Apparently a monthly hormone surge caused a severe breakout on my forehead, so I began taking the pills twice per day, with a sandwich or something considerable enough to buffer the stomach-upset effects. What I felt was...well, basically over-dosed. "Jittery" as though I'd taken too much of a cold/allergy medication, or had too much espresso. It was very strange, and I kept telling my husband that I just 'didn't feel like myself.'
Then, I felt as if I had a bladder infection, disspite the water I was consuming in great quantites. My regular physician called in a Sulfa medicaion to treat the bladder infection, and I quit the Doxy.
I truly believe the Sulfa is what cleared up the acne, which HAS NOT RETURNED, even a month later. (note: I also use a common brand of 2.5% benzolperoxide lotion; not sure if I can name it exactly in this forum. Lower concentrations are effective and don't make your skin flakey.)
However, for the last 3-4 weeks, a slight tremmor in one or both hands persisted. Since the Sulfa, I have not taken another Doxy, nor will I. If my face breaks out again, I think I'll stick with the Sulfa.
I am now on a mild anti-anxiety medication for the 'jitters' and it seems to be working like magic. But no doctor can explain this to me.
I hope this story offers some insights and help to someone--ANYone--else who has been through a similar ordeal.

Five days later I went to the doctor but EKG, bloodwork and urinalysis were all neg.Still having these spells is anyone else?

I started NuvaRing 3 weeks ago yesterday after having the Mirena IUD removed (kept in all 5 years). I removed it yesterday as planned. 1 week ago, I felt a terrible pain in my right side under my ribs. I started having very slight trouble breathing, pain when laughing or coughing, etc. I applied heat and the pain subsided over the weekend and I could breathe easily. On Monday, I decided it best to go to the doctor since I had trouble breathing, I didn't want to assume it was nothing. I went to a doc in the box (bad idea) and I was told that I had a swollen rib cage (the cartilage). I'm certain I was misdiagnosed because the dude didn't even do xrays, even after I explained that I had just started NuvaRing. I wanted them to be aware of everything. The doctor dismissed it.
On Tuesday night, I was in so much pain and my difficulty breathing was worsening that I cried myself to sleep. Wednesday I went to work and was in so much pain that I was in tears and headed to URGENT Care, as my primary care physician could not fit me in. They xrayed, ran a urinalysis, a CBC to check my white blood cells and found nothing except for a bit of what appeared to be constipation, though I have regular bowel movements. My white blood count was slightly elevated, but distributed normally. I was prescribed a laxative and Lortab for the pain, which was excruciating. The doctor told me to come back the next day (today) to retest my white blood count. It went down a tad, as I had taken the Nuvaring out yesterday evening. The doctor seemed puzzled, but gave me my CBC results and urinalysis just in case I developed a fever or an infection of some sort, but told me that she thinks I am having side effects from the NuvaRing. She asked me to not put it back in.
On a side note, I had called my OBGYN on Wednesday before I headed to Urgent Care and explained the situation and they advised me to remove the NuvaRing as well.
I'll have to bite the bullet and pop the daily bc, such as Ortho Lo.
