So I've been reading all of your posts here and finally decided to share my experience. When I got the mirena put in about 7 weeks after my son was born back in the beginning of September the procedure went easy. It just felt like a little cramp then it was over. Before it was inserted tho, they gave me 2 Advil. The Dr. also had me quickly read the pamphlet about the mirena. All that I read sounded like it would be all good so I said ok to having it inserted. After the insertion I went home about an hour or 2 later I started cramping and bleeding. I figured it was ok until it only got worse. I cramped really bad like I was in labor again for about a week. I wanted to call, but stubborn me wanted to stick it out. Well after that calmed down a bit I had irregular bleeding for months after that. Each time I bled or had my period it hurt really bad. Each period also lasted for 10 days about. I finally made an appt. with my regular Dr. and she just gave me Tylenol 3's. This was at about the 6 month mark of having it in. Also by then I started suffering severe anxiety and depression. I had terrible mood swings and crying spells. Well about a month after that I went back because I needed something for all that stuff and the pain had gotten worse. My whole body hurt. So she gave me percocets, valium and effexor xr 150 mgs. I also noticed when they took my vitals this time and the last my temp was 99.4 and my blood pressure was in the 130's one time and the 140's another time. My pulse was also 111 once and 118 another time. Well about two weeks after that second appt. I developed a urinary infection and after I went in for the 3rd time and my urine was tested it came back severe infection. My vitals were 99.6 and 156 for pressure and 109 for pulse. Mind you each time my vitals were never mentioned or even a concern to the docs. Just I noticed it seemed. Well after I took the 10 day antibiotics the urinary pain went away but not my fever and I had really bad body aches. I went back to the Dr. and was given vicodin and was ordered blood tests. My vitals were all high again. I did the blood tests, made an appt. for 2 weeks later to get results and went home and suffered still. When I went back for my results the only finding was my B12 level was low. I wasn't told how low or what to do. So I got all my meds refilled and went home. I went and bought B12 vit.s. I decided to look up B12 online. Then I made an appt. to go back and get more details of it. She told me the level was 168 and she decided to get me a shot that lasts for a month and refilled my vicodin. A week later I felt a little better, but still had symptoms going on. That's when I thought about the mirena being the problem and stumbled on this site and other sites about mirena neg. side affects. I have severe acne, a low grade fever for 4 months, high pulse rate, high blood pressure, mood swings, depression, anxiety, bloating that looks like I'm pregnant and have been asked 3 times when is my baby due. I am 5ft 3in and weigh 129 so I am not fat all over just my stomach is so bloated and fat that it makes me look pregnant. I bleed for 10 days, I have NO libido, I feel strange sensations in my stomach like a baby moving, but I am not pregnant, Iove had nausea, loss of appetite, yet I can,t lose any weight, I am tired a lot, body aces, joint pain, nerve pain, tension in my neck and shoulders, headaches and low B12 levels which don't normally happen to anyone until they are over 50. Well 2 days ago after reading on this, I decided I have had it and couldn't take it anymore and took the damn thing out myself. It didn't hurt at all, in fact I couldn't even feel it coming out. It came out so easy. I don't recommend anyone doing this themselves, I am simply telling my story. I started what seems to be a period this morning. It's very normal so far. I plan on going to my new Dr. I'm getting soon and getting a check up and a pap since I'm due for one. I feel pretty good so far. No problems and I'm relieved that piece of plastic is out of me and look forward to getting my life back. Good luck to all of you!!

I was on Minocycline for about 6 consecutive months and found that it really helped my acne. I did not experience any bad side effects, except the first day where I had nausea. After 6 months I took it on and off for another 5-6 months, but found that it wasn't as effective anymore so I went back to my dermatologist. He said that for people who stop taking and start again it usually does not work as well anymore. I was on it for so long that the antibiotics started killing all my "good" bacteria and caused a urinary infection. My gyno suggested I talked to my dermatologist about taking me off the antibiotics. I went back and he put me on Loestrin24Fe ( a birth control pill). This was my last option, but we'll see how it goes.

I am a 48-year-old male that is still pretty active playing competitive soccer several times per week. I am in good health except that my BP was considered a little high back four years ago and was originally put on a diuretic which made me cramp up easily on the soccer field. I asked my doctor for something different and was changed over to Atenolol. I have been living with the Atenolol side effects for that time and finally had enough. I had recently moved and changed doctors. Now was a good time to complain about the restless nights that I attribute to Atenolol (insomnia is one side effect). My new doctor knowing that I am an athlete suggested Lisinopril.
Again, my research is after the fact and was really spurred by a trip back home and a chat with my brother who is 49 and was just recently put on Liprinopril too. He described some bazaar conditions that he believed were Lisinopril side effects. When researched, he was right. He experienced the blackness or tunnel vision and the feeling of passing out while at work. He felt that he couldn’t drive as the effects where hampering his ability to do so. He stopped taking the drug and started a regiment of fish oil with his other daily supplements. This was two months ago and he is doing great. He too is still an athlete and runs in Masters Track & Field.
For me, it was a little different. I started Lisinopril on a Friday as my Atenolol had just run out on Thursday. I asked the Pharmacist if there was an issue with starting Lisinopril after stopping Atenolol only one day apart. She said there were no issues. 5 days later, Wednesday, while at work I developed an incredible lower back pain on the left side. I began to have nausea and heavily salivate as if I was going to throw up. I ran to the bathroom where I sat on the toilet for a half hour rubbing my back & hip believing it was some intestinal issue or gas. To no avail… When I felt stabile enough, I left work only to sit in my car wondering if was going to be able to drive and if I could should I drive home or to the hospital. Well, I drove home and went to bed for a couple of hours before I felt well enough to function normally. It’s been two weeks and the dull lower back pain that feels similar to a back strain persists. I’ll be heading back to the doctor with this information and will start the fish oil with my daily supplementation program.
Thanks to this website because I was able to find at least five examples out of about the first twenty postings that matched my suspected side effects.

I am diabetic 2- and was given levaquine 700 mg for two nights to recover from urinary infection. I hardly could sleep first night and was uncomfortable all night. The second night when I got sleep at mid-night, I was fully awakened in next hour by palpitation of heart which hurt my neck and left side down to the legs. I was rushed to cardiologist and was under gone all the necessary tests from sonogram to stress to necular . The heart did not show any damage but I am now suffering from irregular palpitations and my left shoulder is very tender occasionally causing muscular pain on left side of my chest. I can not lift a gallon of milk with my left hand and am compelled to rest in the middle of the day otherwise I start hurting in my chest. I hope no one is given this strong doses and that at night. Please go for old antibiotics in milder forms to begin to cure.

I was prescribed /TWP DS 800-160 for a urinary infection. I have taken this medication before with no ill effects, but this time my hands itch all the time and I have a red, itchy rash on my back and stomach. I finished the prescription today, ao hope it goes away and so far the UTI I had is better. At least I don't have as much pain, but it required two prescriptions before is worked. I have taken this before with no noticeable effects. Is this serious?

Hey all. I suspect many of you would agree that one of the most infuriating aspects of this antibiotic nightmare is that seemingly, there aren't many {none that I've dealt with} doctors/nurses or pharmacists that will even acknowledge the potential {and VERY REAL} side effects of these drugs.

On 01/10/08 I was put on Cipro 500mg twice daily, two week supply, for epididymitis, which likely stemmed from a bacterial infection/urinary infection back in late Oct of 07. It's an infection that can require a lengthy dosage due to eliminate bacteria growth. I was also prescribed a painkiller along with it.

That night after dosing had horrible nausea/vomiting, and chalked it up to the painkiller ... which at that point it likely was. Within a few days the groin pain from the infection had subsided a great deal, and although felt a little 'odd' from the Cipro, nothing too noteworthy. At eight days into treatment, became nauseous around the clock with bizarre flu like symptoms. I called the doctor at the ER who had diagnosed me, and she switched me to Doxycilline {sp?}, which isn't a quinolone. After stopping the Cipro, nausea disappeared. However, within a week the pain of the infection returned, apparently due to the weaker antibiotic.

So I was re-checked on 01/24/08 and put on Levaquin, 250gm once daily. Within a day or so the pain subsided once again, but on the third day developed horrible diarrhea and pain in my left knee/leg. Stopped taking it immediately, and decided to research my dilemma online, where to my horror I've discovered all sorts of people from all walks of life experiencing debilitating side effects from this grouping of fluoroquinolone/quinolones antibiotics.

I'm now on Cephalexin, and the pharmacist I spoke with today assured me that it's not part of the quinolone grouping. He also suggested that I must be part of that small pool of the populace that has trouble with quinolone antibiotics ... one begins to wonder just how "small" this pool is given how the average person isn't likely to associate muscle/joint pain with the antibiotic they're ingesting.

How this POISON has lasted so long on the market without more exposure/media coverage speaks volumes about the state of corporate America, with nearly every social system compromised {usually at the expense of the corporation's victims} , with little or no help from the corporate owned mainline media, which serves as nothing but a megaphone platform for vested intertests to transmit "official" opinion to the unwary. So here I be with very painful knee, which I should add is already compromised due to a major tibial plateau fracture in 2001.

I'd love to know whose palms are being greased to keep this rat poison available ... hell, I even had to pay over our insurance co-pay fore the Levaquin, as it's apparently a "top shelf" drug.

Good luck everyone ... and it probably doesn't need to be said, but man, I know after this I will check and double check any and every antibiotic that may be perscribed to our daughter in the future!

I was just put on Levaquin today, for a very bad urinary tract infection.
My doctor prescribed a 5 day treatment, i was suffering terribly.
Let me say, that after just taking the first one, how much better i
feel. Yes, i had some naucousness(however you spell it) but let me
tell you, compared to how i was feeling, which was horrible, in pain
frequent urination, burning, like a knife going through my urethra.
Feeling a bit sick to my stomach from this medication, was well
worth it, compared to how i was feeling....this drug has helped me
and i only took 1 so far, i was on this antibiotic before, and it
also helped me...When we take any type of medication, none
will be without some kind of side effect, to me, the side effect
is worth it, knowing im going to be better from the horrible
suffering. Its only a 5 day treatment, its not like you have to
take it for 1 mth...im a trooper and hang in there, nothing can
be worse than a serious urinary infection, i couldnt take it
anymore...this pill so far as helped me tremendously, maybe
you all should just hang in there for 5 days, and give it a
chance, just my opinion...! Good Luck to All!

I was prescribed Doxycycline for a urinary infection and have a peptic stomach. After one tablet the drug had my stomach so upset I had to eat constantly to keep from being doubled over in pain. After the fourth tablet I called my doctor and stated I could no longer take Doxycycline. The doctor then prescribed another antiobiotic. It still took almost two weeks for my stomach to settle down, but is still very susceptable to being upset between meals. I am also have more trouble with being constipated or having I was prescribed Doxycycline for a urinary infection and have a peptic stomach. hello, was on lisinopril for about the first 3 weeks of 2007 and had bad stomach problems and could not uriniate, felt like my bladder was full. i thought i had prostrate problems, went back to doc, said it was probably a urinary infection. gave me cipro and said it would clear up in a couple of days, got worse. found this site on jan 20 and quit taking lisinopril that day. after 3-4 days i could uriniate again. doc then gave me atenolol and took it for about 10 days, have had a wierd kind of sore throat and sore around adams apple, feels like something hung in my throat and my appitite is nothing like it used to be, not hungry, and not sleeping worth a darn. anybody know how long these side effects last. driving me and my wife crazy. also hoarseness in throat and voice. i sure am glad to find this site. tommy p.s, am sure symptoms were before taking atenolol.

I've only seen one other comment regarding this, but I'm hoping it's worth a try. I've been on the nuva ring for maybe two years now, and I have non stop yeast infections. But the worst part is that ever since I've started it, I've had a serious relationship and have sex more, and almost ever single time I end up getting a urinary infection right afterward. This never used to happen, and I'm wondering if it has something to do with the irritation and the yeast infections that it does cause anyway. If anyone can help me with any information I would appreciate it, they're the most painful things in the world.

I have taken trimethoprim for two doses and those havent been as close as they should have been over two days and not the full dose at that as I took 200mg last night and felt so horrible, with a very dry mouth, high high anxiety couldnt sleep and didnt feel well at all.. depite drinking lots and lots as advised when taking it
..I just was starting to feel better during today as if it was wearing out of my system and I still have the urinary infection so tonight I took half a dose (ie 100mg) and here I am sitting up into the night scouring the Internet for side effects or drug interactions that may not be on the leaflet with the meds, but maybe what I am having, as I feel exactly the same as last night, high high anxiety, cant sleep and dry mouth (very). I dont think I want to continue this medication and will call my Dr tomorrow for another antibiotic to clear the UTI.
Was quite releived when I came across this site with people mentioning high anxiety and very dry mouth and feeling plain awful!

I had quite a battle to be put on low dose Prednisone. I had to have pain relief so taking Prednisone was like making a "pact with the devil". I couldn't take Nsaids because of Urinary infection and the other drugs raise blood pressure or are addictive. (My father's family were all alcoholics)!
As far as side effects go, I may be experiencing an increase in tendon and ligiment strain and muscle spasm. However, I was experiencing some extremes of that for years.
Thank God for Prednisone, even if I expire from using it. No one should be in the pain I was in. My fp dr. told me "My license is more important then your pain". A Mayo Clinic dr. is treating me. JH

Had it prescribed twice. The first time was for sinusitis and the second for a urinary infection.
The first time I suffered from severe achilies tendon pain with a little ankle swelling but didn't conect the drug and the pain.
The second time, the doctor, when I informed him that I was even finding walking painful, told me that it was just a side effect of the drug and that it could continue for up to three or four months. That information would have been really usefull before I started using
Levofloxacin the second time but, as is often the case, I was too badly affected by the ailment to look it up myself or ask all the clever questions.

Levaquin is probably one of the most damaging drugs in the market. I was given Levaquin 500mg for 20 days by a Urologist for a possible urinary infection. (It later turned out that the frequent urination for which I was given this medication had nothing to do with urinary infection and all the symptoms remained the same after completing the 20 day course, but that is a different story).

Now about the side effects. I started having on and off chest pains about a month ago and now the frequency of those chest pains have grown to almost persistent chest pain. It is getting me very nervous. I also notice my left knees are sometimes totally limp and unable to move.

Those doctors who prescribe this medication without becoming aware of its side effects and not informing the patients about its side effects should be prosecuted to maximum extent by the law and it should be considered a felony to prescribe this medication without considering alternatives.

I would like to know if anyone has noticed any of the symptoms getting better with time. I am curious to know if we can expect any of the symptoms to get better with time or worse? Also, I would like to know if anyone has been able to treat any of the side effects.

We need to get a petition together and file with FDA about Levaquin and its disastrous side effects. How can FDA approve this medication without a thorough study of its side effects?

Looking forward for any responses.

Thanks.

I started taking Leviquin three days ago. I had a urinary infection that had probably spread to my respitory system, so I was not in good shape. The respitory problem was bad, in that I could not lie down without eventually going into violent coughing fits, the kind that make you vomit from their intensity. In fact, I *did* vomit at one point, and was absolutely sure what I saw was half my blood coming up out of my mouth, which of course sent me into a panic due to its color and volume. I had forgotten that I'd been drinking red fruit juice all night, however, and realizing that's the only thing that made me smile these past days.

My doctor inspected my areas and prescribed Levaquin. Well, it certainly killed the respitory infection. Even up til I went in the door at the doc's, it was with me, but that night after that first dose, not a cough. Also, not a wink of sleep.

And no sleep the next night either. And quite a few times as I've drifted towards the veil and then been savagely yanked back, I've almost begun crying and shivering, afraid that I'm going to die now.

And now that I've read a few horror stories, I'm pretty scared that I might be sleepless until God knows when. Or worse.

I'm not taking a dose tomorrow, and am going back to the doctor Monday and demanding something else. I'm only scared now that whatever I've done is irreparable.

I was perscribed Levaquin for post STD and urinary infection. Aroudn teh fourth day, I noticed I was really dizzya nd had heart palpitations. I was able to let my body to takes its time and get rid oft he UTI on its own fortunately.
If you have trouble with digestion, I suggest trying accidolphilus pills or something to replenish the intestines with healthy bacteria, that solved a lot of the common gas problems.

I am a female, I went to my doctor Maybe a month ago with a urinary tract infection, He put me on levaquin. I begun to get a little better but the infection was not completely gone, So I called him back and went a second round with levaquin. That was like a month ago. I went back to the doctor with a rash that would not seem to go away. It started on my feet and then my legs, he told me it was Chigger bites, he gave me an anti-inflammtory drug, predinsone, and a lotion for itching. Shortly after that I pulled muscles in my shoulder and neck swimming, Went back to the Doctor, Was told I just pulled some muscles and was gave muscle relaxers and loratab. My rash by this time was much worse, it had spread to under my arms, buttocks, arms. Basically all over. I went back to the doctor today and was sent to a dermatologist. She right off looking at it close under a light, Said I had a drug reaction. The rash had spread to my throat and she was concerned about that. We went over all the different medication I had been on, I absent mindly forgot about the levaquin. She told me to refer to my medical record and try to find out what drugs I had taken in the past, That I didn't normally take. Levaquin was it. Be careful taking this medication, Drug reactions can be very dangerous. I am almost 90% sure that it was caused by the levaquin. I will touch base tomorrow with my dermatologist to see what she thinks about the levaquin- But after reading all of these side effects you all have had, I am convinced. Next urinary infection I have, I think i will ask the doctor for a different antibiotic.

I was on levaquin 500mg for 10 days, for pneumonia. I had other symptoms of an urinary infection, also yeast infection along with a bothersome 'crusty' nose..irritation at the same time. After a few days everything was 'cured' and I was delighted to say the least. I'm VERY grateful that I didn't suffer any of the side effects I've read about.

Took Levaquin for 2 days for a urinary infection, and had muscle cramps in left calf so intense could hardly wallk, the calf was rock hard. Later in the day, right leg seized up. Took one (1) more pill when finally realized that it was probably the medicine so I quit taking it. A week later after getting home from a trip, took one (1) more pill and both calves started to get hard and hurt again. Will not take this medicine again!
