I have been on Diovan for 2 and 1/2 years. I have noticed SO MANY of the symptoms that everyone is describing!! There is one that nobody has mentioned and that is vaginal pain. I have been to gynecologists, urologists, general practitioners and a heart specialist for all of the symptoms. Nobody has been able to figure out the vaginal pain. I am 56 years old and know that atrophy vaginitis may have something to do with it, but why is it that when I don't take my diovan, I don't have the pain down there as much. It is the worst of all the symptoms, so in time, we will see if the others subside. Like some of you, it seemed like one day I got up and felt like I was 80 instead of 56! Why don't the doctors take a very good look at your meds when you are having problems that they cannot figure out!? It does take my blood pressure down but I am going to start taking garlic and fish oil to see if they will help.

Hi I just had my Mirena inserted January 27th for heavy periods due to a thick uterine lining. I am 41 years old so my ob did not want me to to take
the pill.

I am aware of many women doing well with the IUD but I don't think I am
one of them. I am had spotting everyday which I know is common. I just
began my period 2 days ago which has been heavy to light to heavy. My
problem is and I have been to my ob twice already checking for strings. Since I can't seem to feel them. She assures me they're there. I have had mild vaginal pain almost a feeling of a dried tampon in me. I have that feeling more so that not. More of the pain seems to be on the left side which is where my strings are so I"m told. Has anyone had this feeling. I have been searching the site for days and can't find anything. I am going in for an ultrasound on Thursday to make sure it's in the correct place.

Ladies, I just wanted to add a post to say thank you. I am 30 and my husband and I just decided to go off birth control after 12 years. I have been on the NuvaRing for nearly 3 years and was just browsing the internet tonight to read about going off of birth control (took out my ring earlier tonight). Your posts have answered so many questions that I've had about my libido, vaginal pain, and leg cramping that I had not connected to the NuvaRing. But, after reading your posts, and thinking back to when these changes started, I'm so thankful to be off of it! It is frightening to me to think of what I've done to my body (and sex life) being on BC for this many years... and specifically, the NuvaRing. Thank you, ladies, for sharing your stories.

I wish I had never tried Yasmin. Spider veins; increased pigment on my face, leaving me with dark splotches; daily nausea, which became much worse if I got slightly off schedule. I've been off the pill for more than a year and the skin problems caused by Yasmin have not gone away. Worse yet was the low sex drive, vaginal dryness, and bad vaginal pain. I'm worried that I won't be the same as I was before.

I am 30 yrs old and have been on NuvaRing for a year or so. When I first started the NV, I was healthy and had no health problems. Since then a gradual onset of multiple symptoms.

It started with pain during sex, then not wanting to have sex, and now I haven't had sex with my husband in a few months because it hurts and I have no drive. I have gained weight. I went to the doctor and they told me that my blood pressures were sky high.

I have never ever in my entire life been sad, depressed, or had any mental issues. I feel so depressed, sad, and tired all the time. This past month I have wanted to do nothing but lay around the house. I force myself to go to work and drag though workouts at the gym. I have no reason...my life is great! NuvaRing is the only thing that I could think of. My family MD conducted a physical on me and found no cause other than NR for these symptoms.

My hair is seriously falling out, I have nausea frequently in the morning, bad mood swings, feelings of rage, vaginal discharge, vaginal pain, painful urination, sex drive is totally dead, I hate sex, I'm tired all the time, I'm often constipated even though I eat a healthy diet, I have to take stool softeners, my stomach always feels swollen, I get TERRIBLE headaches 1-2 days before my period starts, cramps are worse, bleeding is worse, and I feel like crap physically/emotionally.

I am taking this out of my body next week. If you read this please spare yourself from the damage this medication can do to your body.

I'm a 30 year old woman and I've been taking Yasmin for 4 months now. I've been reading what people have been posting here and I'm wondering if I'm alone in having the following symptoms:
-severe breast pain for one day in the middle of my cycle, followed by mild breast pain until I get my period,
-painful cramps in the middle of my cycle,
-weird sharp internal vaginal pain, (sorry for the graphics, but especially during climax),
-acne problems,
-depression
The last two, I did see that people wrote about on here. I called my doctor today and I'm requesting a new pill. I thought that after a couple of months the symptoms would equalize, but after this last month, I decided I couldn't live with it. The breast pain especially has been very painful.

Thank goodness for this sight. If you are thinking you're crazy and can't figure out what's wrong while you're on Nuva, scroll down, you will feel like you're getting a big hug!

I am 27 and have been on the NuvaRing for coming on 8 months and everything has changed. At first I had severe migraines with nausea, a day after starting, that kept going and still occur. They will last all day long and I can take 8 of my migraine medicine and nothing will help. The headaches ruin days, make work difficult, and ruin weekends.

Second: I gained weight around my middle, so perceptibly, I thought I was pregnant. The bloat and gas is constant, I'm always popping Gas-X extra strength but the gas doesn't quit. It was funny at first (yes, I'm immature) but now I'm so uncomfortable, and my pants are tight around the middle but nowhere else. Boo!

Third: ANXIETY. I've been the most relaxed, calm person until I started on NuvaRing, and now I have a prescription for Valium just to keep me from having nervous butterflies all day. The anxiety goes hand in hand with depression, which sucks because I got engaged literally 2 weeks after starting NuvaRing and am always nervous, anxious and sad, and I'm so in love with my fiance but our home life is strained! I sometimes wonder if it's cold feet, but I know it's not. Which leads me to:

Fourth: NO SEX DRIVE. Gone. Dead. Zilch. Zero. I have been the horniest person I know my whole life. I love sex. But I am almost scared of it now. I have no desire to have sex, recoil when my fiance touches me, and get butterflies when I think he's going to try to have sex with me. I sleep as far away as possible, never masturbate anymore, never feel sexy and the idea of sex just doesn't even pop into my head. So unlike me. This causes anxiety, too.

Fifth: Yeast infections and pain during sex. I've never had either of these before. I'm extremely hygienic, and my underwear are constantly filled with discharge. So gross and painful.

I'm going off of it in 5 days and I cannot wait!

I am 41 and like another poster, I use the ring to help regulate my period as I am in perimenopause. I have had no sex drive, fatigue, extreme change in discharge and a lot of vaginal pain. This is my 4th ring to use, and I am considering taking it out and talking to my doctor about something else. Maybe I just need to deal with the side effect of extremely long amounts of time between periods, but it sure doesn't make me feel secure since I can still get pregnant!

I just started on NuvaRing YESTERDAY and already I'm getting headaches and experiencing vaginal pain and abdominal cramping. I was on the pill two years ago for a year to regulate my periods, and I experienced ridiculous mood swings and severe depression. My gyno recommended this because of the lower doses of hormones. With the exception of 1 review, everything I've found so far has been extremely negative regarding this birth control. I'm thinking this probably isn't going to be the right one for me...

I have been on mirena now for 10 months. I was on the depo for 10 years prior. I loved my depo adn only went off of it after Kaiser said I could not do it any longer. I was told that mirena was a god send and a lot like my depo. I can say that the combination of depo and mirena I have not had any period at all. but that is where the happiness ends. I have experienced moths of breast pain. it hurt to touch them let alone put anything on them. after about 6 months and numerous trips to the vet it disappeared. then I got a small rash on my neck and by my arms. went to dermatology and since then I have been there, or to my primary or an allergist every week since then. the rough severley itchy skin is constant. remarkably every 29 - 32 days it fades for 2 days or so and just when I am sure it is going away wham back it comes and each time it is getting worse and worse. having never had any skin problems before I believed the doctors tha tit was folliculitus, then they said dermatitus, then they said uticaria and then hives or the last straw i was causing it that it was in my head. i just got a new allergist and while she doesn't knwo if it is my mirena she can tell me I have histamine levels that are off the chart. my husband is allergic to a lot so we already use free & clear everything and my housse is spotless but I am still being told it is soemthing I am doing to myself. I have also been reevaluating my things and I relaize I have been experiencing a lot of numbness and joint pain. so much so that my primary sent me to a rhuematlogist and he ran every test for lupus, and many other diseaeses adn even cancer. I was going crazy. Iwas beginning to think maybe I was mental. I have since been researching mirena and I am finding it so much more than what the pamphlet says. I finally got the nerve to call my ob, adn she ahs since been researching things with me and we know for sure that no matter what next week I get my mirena removed. I am just feeling so alone and depressed. I am 33 years old and instead of enjoying my new marriage I am contemplating a divorce becasue I do not want him to be stuck with soemone who might be crazy. seeking support and anyone else who feels this way.

I've only been on NR for about 3 weeks and while i love not having to worry about anything, i have been experiencing the worst vaginal pain/burning/stinging after sex. I also have a much heavier discharge and a lot of spotting esp after sex. Is anyone else having this problem? I don't have a real doctor to go to so it would be nice to know if the ring is the problem or if i'm in real trouble.

I guess I have been lucky, I haven't experienced any vaginal pain, excessive discharge, emotional moodswings, or lack of sex drive while on this.

Actually....aside from my boyfriend saying he can feel it at times during sex....I've had no issues with it up until now.

But last night my bf playfully grabbed one of my boobs and I almost screamed from the pain. He commented on how they seemed swollen, and a bit stiff.

Now I am due to take the ring out today, so this may be a side effect that one might experience as it gets close to period time. I'm not sure. All I know is that breast tenderness and swelling is one of the few symptoms I have NEVER experienced. It have NEVER been a PMS symptom for me, nor have I ever experienced it while using other contraceptives.

Has anyone else experienced this while on the NuvaRing?

Hey everyone.
I wanted to thank you for all your comments. I've been on NR for 5 or 6 cycles now and didn't realize that it might be the cause of recent issues.
1. My breast are lumpy/sore and have increased a cup size
2. Some weight gain and salt cravings (I feel like a pregnant woman) which, in turn cause me to bloat.
3. Facial bloating
4. mood swings. I'm on top of the world the first to weeks it's in then im awful the last week.
5. Worst worst, is the constant feeling going into the end of the 2nd/3rd week that i'm on the verge of getting some kind of vaginal infection.

I had something going on over Christmas (my gyno thought it was a yeast infection or cysts) with vaginal pain ovarian pain and back pain that I thought I had PID or even herpes even though tested negative for everything.

I took it out today on my normal cycle and I wonder if I should just stop completely. It scares me because of my fam. history of breast cancer. I've only been on nuva. is there some other form of hormonal birth control that's right for me?

hi guest 32977,
hi, a couple of things jumped out at me there from your post. The no sex drive is really common on many brands of birth control but one of the quite often mentioned side effects of contraceptive pills (especially yasmin) is the vaginal pain. This could be because the hormone levels are not right for you and cause the vagina to atrophy (ie become tight and dry) as happens during and after menapause.that is why some ladies have problems inserting tampons etc. the other thing that jumped out at me was that you said you had kidney surgery. have you checked that it is ok to take yasmin, did you have your pottasium levels checked? yasmin is a pottasium sparing diuretic and is not recommended for people with kidney problems. also you mentioned anxiety????? has this just begun whilst you have been on yasmin? you may find that once you stop taking it (if you choose to) that the anxiety will vanish on it's own. so many ladies have ended up taking meds for the anxiety when all they needed to do was stop taking the pill.
good luck to you whatever you decide.

sarah

My daughter has the same problem, deep pain in the vagina when inserting tampons and during sex, we dont know if it is related to yasmine or not. She has had all the other side effects; depression/anxiety, mood swings, frequent urination the list goes on.
She has been off the pill for four weeks yesterday and is feeling great, the last two weeks have been a complete turnaround, she is happy at work, where as before she was really struggling.
She hopes to slowly go off the antideppressants that were prescribed, we are just hoping that she is over the worse of it, she is only 17 and should be enjoying life.
As for the vaginal pain, i will ask her if there is an improvement since stopping the pill and let you know

I have been on Yasmin for 3 years. In the beginning, my biggest problems were acne and nausea (during the first 3 months). Although I did experience some migraines, I did not attribute that to the Yasmin at the time, because I had migraines prior. About a year and a half ago, I started experiencing numerous health problems. I visted with numerous doctors (3 PCPs, 3 GYNs, a urologist and I have just been referred to a Gastroenterologist). Because I just started a new job at about the same time (I am a social worker), most of the doctors I spoke with attributed my health problems to stress.

So, although I cannot (nor is any doctor willing to) say for sure that Yamin has caused all of my health problems, my mom (a nurse practioner) is concerned that Yasmin is the root of most of my health problems. She recommended I list my symptoms on this site to see if anyone else has similar symptoms.

Here is a list of my symptoms to date (based on which symptoms are most bothersome/concerning):

-IBS (alternating diarrhea and constipation)
-anxiety/depression (loss of social life)
-increased frequency/urgency of urination (accompanied by bladder and urethral spasms)
-vaginal dryness
-severe vaginal pain (unable to tolerate pelvic exam and/or tampon)
-nausea
-migraines
-leg cramps

Thus far, the pros of this pill are improved acne and lighter, regular periods accompanied by less severe cramps (the inital reason I went on the pill).

Has anyone else gotten an IBS diagnosis or vaginal problems (bladder problems, vaginal dryness/ pain, etc.) since starting this pill? Everyone is telling me to get off of this pill. I just want to make sure this isn't "in my head" and that the pill could actually be the cause of some of these health problems!!! I am not the same person I was when I started this pill. I just want my life back!!! Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My wife was given Levaquin for a repeat sinus infection. Previously diagnosed with a metabolic/kidney disorder that has produced over 10 years of frequent kidney stones and other problems. Her body takes longer to respond to most drugs. After the 4th dose of levaquin, she started complaining of frequent urination and mild pain in the rib area. She is now complaining of severe vaginal pain during urination. Although most of the symptoms described in this site are not present, we feel it necessary to stop the medication for possible irreversible damage. Beware....
