Hi I am 21 years old and have been on the Nuvaring for about a year now. I have experienced many of the symptoms you have all spoken about. Hair loss, decreased sex drive( which scares me because i am so young and i am in a serious relationship in which my boyfriend has a high sex drive ( he 22) and he noticed my sex drive dwindling and wanted to know what changed. It has been a huge problem in our relationship.) I have not experienced weight gain that i have noticed. But i experience extreme pain/burning during and after sex. One of the side effects of the nuvaring is vaginitis which has pain n burning as its side effects. I have been to several doctors for the pain as it is disrupting my sex life and making sex unbearable at times. However they all dismissed the nuvaring as the cause and suggested that it may just be a mindset and i need to get into sex more. Which i think is bull im 21 and very much in love with my boyfriend and have a healthy sexual relationship so having a negative mental state word that seems ludacris to me. I have had std sti blood tests and been tested for yeast and blatter infections. Nothing seems to be wrong with me but i know i have never experienced this before and the nuvaring has been a constant through the pain. If anyone has experienced anything like this please let me know.

Hello, i have read several of the response. I had my mirena placed in Aug 2008, when my son was a year old, he is now 18 months, I experienced cramping (but not too bad) and spotting for about 3 months. I have experienced 3 bladder infections (never had any before mirena) and increased acne. Nothing I do works to clear the acne. I have been on proactive for almost 4 years and now it's not working? I have tried another expensive merle norman cream and nutrigenia, but nothing works. THERE IS ANOTHER SIDE EFFECT I WOULD LIKE TO ADD THAT NO ONE ELSE HAS MENTIONED - PLEASE RESPOND IF YOU HAVE OR ARE EXPERIENCING THIS!!!!! I DON'T WANT TO BE ALONE - I have experienced an "odor" with discharge that I never had before. I have dousched and scrubbed but nothing works. It just goes and comes on it's own. You can even smell it sometimes during sex, my husband is extremely understand and worried about this too. If anyone else has had this problem please reply back and let me know what you did. Thanks and I'm sorry everyone is having all of these problems. I am considering having my mirena removed, it has seemed to be good birth control, but I do want to protect my body and my future children.

I stumbled upon this site looking for side effects of a new BC I am about to start called Loestrin and after reading the horror stories about it, I was about to throw it out. I decided to look at the Nuvaring board because I was on it for 2 1/2 years and was curious to see what was said about it. Had I read this prior to starting the Nuvaring I probably wouldn't have given it a chance. I loved Nuvaring. It was so convenient and I had no side effects at all from it and my cycle was so regular and predictable. I had a yeast infection and vaginitis in the 2 1/2 year period but I don't think it was due to the ring. Unfortunately, I have to change BC to Loestrin due to Endometriosis symptoms that the ring wont help with so I searched it and was discouraged by the reports but now I feel better giving it a try after seeing these posts because I had no problems at all with Nuvaring. I would recommend trying it if you are looking for convenience and regulation.

I am so happy that I found out what was going on with me... I've been on NR on and off for 2 years. Last year I decided to go off of it for a few months. The symptoms I was getting were:
- No sex drive
- Headaches
- Mood swings
- Uncontrollable anger surges
- Cramping
- INCREASED breast size
- Pain and burning after intercourse
I stopped for 3 months.
the first month, I was ok, got my period at the right time but then, it took 2 months for me to get another period and I was PMS-ing for about 3 weeks.
I then decided to go back on NR just to get a regular cycle. All symptoms came back. Plus now, I end up with MONTHLY vaginitis just before my period. I took a test with the gyno yesterday and she found out abnormal levels of Fungi in my secretions and prescribed fluconazole to get rid of those.
I am thinking of going off it again but NR has the lowest hormones count on the marketand I have a history of not reacting well to other birth control pills (Cyclen, Yasmin, Alesse).
thanks everyone for sharing.

Hello-

I got my Mirena inserted about two and a half months ago. I got my first period and have not stopped bleed since. I also have a foul odor all the time that it very embarrassing!! My doc keeps telling me that I have Group Strep B and that I have always had it...I am 27 years old with two children. I have NEVER had any issues down there!!! I am beginning to think that my odor is a S/E from the Mirena. It's also very embarrassing when I am with my husband. He is very understanding and acts very cool about the whole thing, but I don't want him having to deal with this either. Has anyone else experienced an odor?? I did read that Vaginitis is a possible S/E with Mirena.

Well here's yet another unsatisfied customer. I am so relieved to see I'm not alone but so angry and my doctors for not doing some simple research like this on behalf of their patients, so I could've been more adequately warned about the side effects of this product on some women. Basically, if you are sensitive to hormonal changes, which I am, then this product will really mess with your body. These hormonal changes can affect, among other things, changes in the ph level of your vagina which can lead to both bacterial and fungal vaginitis. Did anyone tell you that? Have you had more of those infections while on this and think you were crazy? You weren't. Symptoms of a bacterial infection include a thin, watery discharge and a fishy smell. Did you think you smelled different while on this but figured there's no way there could be a connection to Mirena? There is. Looking back now, how could I have trusted a pamphlet from the maker of the product? Obviously they want you to buy it. That was my stupidity. But how could my doctor trust the pamphlet? Why do they assume the hormone level is too small to make an impact when there are thousands of women having them removed and citing the exact same reactions. Demand that you be taken seriously as a women and a patient. Do not be bullied nor belittled by your doctor into thinking you must be wrong and a corporate drug company is right. Get it out.

I was taking Ambien CR for almost a year. Until I stopped taking it I didn't realize all the side effects I was suffering. I was taking almost every night. I started getting yeast infections about a month after I started taking it. They continued every single month for the next 7 months, sometimes twice in one month. It got to the point that OTC meds were not curing it. The doctor prescribed a med for it and it still didn't help. I have been trying to figure out excatly what behavior (eg:diet, laundry soap) I had changed in the last year when it dawned on me. They started around the time I started taking Ambien CR. I started researching side effects of Ambien CR and in the very very fine print it lists Vaginitis. There it is. Somewhere I read that only .01% of women suffer this side effect, figures it would be me. I stopped taking Ambien immediately, the yeast infection that I was getting started to go away on its own. I bought an OTC med to help it go away and I feel great! Haven't had another one since.

Other side effects that I noticed after I stopped taking it were headaches, short tempered, confusion, short-term memory loss, hair loss. I haven't had a headache since the last day I took Ambien CR. I had absolutely no patience while I was taking it. I would lose my temper in a flash. I haven't felt as angry since I stopped taking it. I didn't realize how crappy I was feeling every day until I stopped taking it.

I think Ambien might be okay for occasional use but not every night like I was taking it.

I am in my second month of ADVAIR HFA 115/21 inhaler. Take two puffs twice a day. Great improvement in my lung capacity. I am 72 and enjoying senior aerobics twice a week, the treadmill, and senior tennis. Pulmonologist also wants me to take Xopenex, which I do about three times a week.

Tonight, I developed a vaginitis. The after-hours nurse and I think it's from these two steroids. I also wake up with leg cramps.

Any help to stop the cramping and the vaginitis.

For those with dry mouth, try Biotene products. They are marvelous. For sores in your mouth and on your tongue, get your doc to prescribe triamcinolone 0.1% paste. Fantastic.

I put in the NR for this first time yesterday morning. I woke up today with a foul odor and discharge (symptoms of vaginitis). I called my DR to question the side effects and her response was to take the ring out, rinse it off, and put it back in. She also told me to be patient and give it time.

I am seriously considering taking out for good...after 1 day. I've read through the posts and didn't see many women complaining of vaginites. Has anyone experienced this? So soon?

Has anyone had any experiences with having more yeast infections/vaginitis since being on the Ring? I don't know if it a coincidence or a cause?

Okay, so I have just been diagnosed with a mild case of Hidradenitis Suppurativa, which is a fancy word for vaginal acne. I was tested for all kinds of crazy STD's and vaginitis and such and I swear that I never had this problem until the yasmin (among about a gazillion other problems; I have posted as a guest before). Does anyone else have this problem or am I alone in this embarassing and unsightly disorder?

Has anyone had any problem with vaginal irritation? Also, i cannot have an orgasm with this thing and i've never had that problem before. wondering if it's a result of the drug. The side effects do mention "vaginitis" so i'm assuming this is contributing to the problem of things not feeling "normal" down there.

What are possible side effects of LEVAQUIN?
LEVAQUIN is generally well tolerated. The most common side effects caused by LEVAQUIN, which are usually mild, include nausea, diarrhea, itching, abdominal pain, dizziness, flatulence, rash and vaginitis in women.

You should be careful about driving or operating machinery until you are sure LEVAQUIN is not causing dizziness.

Allergic reactions have been reported in patients receiving quinolones including LEVAQUIN, even after just one dose. If you develop hives, skin rash or other symptoms of an allergic reaction, you should stop taking this medication and call your healthcare professional.

Ruptures of the shoulder, hand, or Achilles tendons have been reported in patients receiving quinolones, including LEVAQUIN. If you develop pain, swelling, or rupture of a tendon you should stop taking LEVAQUIN and contact your healthcare professional.

Some quinolone antibiotics have been associated with the development of phototoxicity ("sunburns" and "blistering sunburns") following exposure to sunlight or other sources of ultraviolet light such as artificial ultraviolet light used in tanning salons. LEVAQUIN has been infrequently associated with phototoxicity. You should avoid excessive exposure to sunlight or artificial ultraviolet light while you are taking LEVAQUIN.

If you have diabetes and you develop a hypoglycemic reaction while on LEVAQUIN, you should stop taking LEVAQUIN and call your healthcare professional.

Convulsions have been reported in patients receiving quinolone antibiotics including LEVAQUIN. If you have experienced convulsions in the past, be sure to let your physician know that you have a history of convulsions.

Quinolones, including LEVAQUIN, may also cause central nervous system stimulation which may lead to tremors, restlessness, anxiety, lightheadedness, confusion, hallucinations, paranoia, depression, nightmares, insomnia, and, rarely, suicidal thoughts or acts.

If you notice any side effects not mentioned here or you have concerns about the side effects you are experiencing, please inform your healthcare professional.

For more complete information regarding levofloxacin, please refer to the full prescribing information, which may be obtained from your healthcare professional, pharmacist, or the Physicians' Desk Reference (PDR).
