I just started taking this drug three days ago, and I am already having such bad side effects that I don't want to take it anymore. I am only 29, but have a family history of high BP, and went to the doctor last week to find out my bp was 175/90. Since starting the drug, I've been getting dizziness, but last night took the cake. I woke up around 4:30 with horrible nausea. I ran to the bathroom where I fainted while sitting on the toilet lid, wanting nothing more than to vomit. I remember waking up and looking in the mirror, and my face was as white as a sheet, as were my lips. I looked dead, and it scared the hell out of me. As I came to, I suddenly had diarrhea hit me, and once that was over, I felt better. My husband thinks my body is trying to get rid of the drug. In addition to all this, I am having palpitations and feel that my heart is beating too fast. I know that part of this is nerves, because I'm scared of taking this medication, but the fainting and nausea ARE because of the drug. I called my doctor today, and she wants me to come in to get my BP taken again. I am so scared that she won't lower the dose or (better yet) switch me to something else, because my bp always goes up at the doctor's office when I get nervous, every time. Oh, and I also started metformin last week because the doctor tested my blood sugar and it came back 250. Could it be the combination? I don't know. I just know I have only been on this stuff for a few days and already hate it and feel that it's bad for my body! It's very scary.

Except for having high cholesterol (310), I'm a 29 yr old healthy active female, very petite and weigh 98lbs. My mother has had a quadruple bypass and 4 stents at the age of 54, high cholesterol is just hereditary in my family. My doctor put me on 40 mg of zocor. The first week taking zocor I started feeling strange, a little soar here and there and very tired at times, also I have become very forgetful. It's been almost 2 months now and I have severe pain in my legs. First it was the right leg and now both legs, the pain starts at my lower back all the way down to my cav. I have a burning painful feeling sometimes numbing feeling, its driving me crazy!!!! I can't stand for too long cause I feel tons of pressure on my lower back pushing down my legs, It feels like my sciatic nerve. I went to my doctor and he said he is 95% sure that this is from the zocor medication, he told me to stop it right away. This is my first day without it, I know I need to do something to prevent what happen to my mother, I'm on a strict healthy diet, staying away from all fatty cholesterol filled foods, but there has to be a better way then taking statin drugs! If anyone has some ideas of what kind of alternative meds I can take, please help.

I have been on lipitor since Oct 2008, 10 mg. Off and on, I am very dizzy. The backs of my calves start to weaken and I start drinking Smart Water, because I think I"m dehydrated. The Smart Water does help, but today, the dizziness is lasting all day. I probably have tinnitus. My right ear occasionally has a loud ringing and today a little pain and feels as though it has water in it. I am going to call Life Extensions and speak to their health advisors and try something naturpathic. I am soooo scared, because I have 50% blockage in my carotid arteries. Any advice out there?

Hi, I am a 45 year old male with high cholesterol. prescribed 20mg. of Lipitor to control it. Am having a strange twitching muscle in my right calf since I started the meds. Forearms hurt, trouble sleeping, twitching in my sleep, apparently, tiredness. I'm worried about going off it. My dad died of a heart attack. Would it hurt to try going off it for about 3 months?

Hi I started taking Lipitor when I was about 41 and gradually noticed a big toe becoming numb. Then later another toe became numb. I had just started swimming about this time with fins and thought at first it may have been caused by them. But then I stopped swimming and the numbness continued. I visited a Neurologist a couple of years ago who tested for everything and found some peripheral nerve damage to the feet. I said the only thing I could think of was Lipitor. He said here was no conclusive evidence it causes this but explained how nerves are made of Lipids and lipitor limits the production of lipids. I stopped taking it but later my GP said I need to go on something for my cholesterol. He put me on Crestor. I took a Lipitor the other week and my toes tingled that night. So I am convinced it is Lipitor. I am not sure how to reverse the damage though.

Went off simvastatin in March, all pain went away within a couple of months, but muscle weakness in legs remained. In October, found out my cholesterol is sky high, over 325. So Dr. wanted to try Crestor 5 mg. Within 1 week, I had overwhelming fatigue, could hardly stay awake during the day and the weakness in my legs was getting worse. So I just went off Crestor. Frustrating!!

I have been on Lisinopril for about 10 months. I have really not felt well the whole time and have developed some side effects that i have gotten use to and just lived with and couldn't figure out what was wrong with me. I had fatigue, problems concentrating, headaches, chest pain, blurred vision, body aches and overall didn't feel like doing anything. I also noticed a small rash on my stomach/chest when i would get out of the shower but figured it must have been soap or something. I even tried not using soap and it would still be there. Friends and family started telling me I never feel good etc. So about 3 weeks ago I got really sick with diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, chest pains etc. Kept thinking i had a virus or something. A few times i was so sick I layed on the floor wondering what is wrong with me. Finally got into my doctor today and he also said it was a virus. A few people said they thought i was my blood pressure pills including my chiropractor. The doctor ran a sleu of tests today and i should get the results tomorrow. I have also had itching all over my body and a vaginal infection so i thought that would not go away. From reading all of this I realize everything is a reaction to the medication and I did not take a dose tonight but 2 benadryl instead. I always noticed throughout this that i always felt better towards the evening of course because that was when my medication was due. I will not be taking anymore of this and I am not happy that so many people are being given this everyday without any knowledge. Thank goodness people are responding and telling their stories so we don't think we are going crazy and hopefully feel better and maybe save a life!

My 6 y/o daughter has been taking Singular for approx. 2 years. She began to have regular stomach pains shortly there after. She was sent to Children's hospital where they put her on a laxitive which made things worse. Then we began testing for food allergies only to find out that she tested positive for a 3 page list of foods. We eliminated those food and had her tested again. She was subsequently allergic to the foods we eliminated. She was recently down to rice, a few meats and some vegetables. Guess what, she is now allergic to those foods.

All this time she has been complaining of severe leg pain, eye pain, throat pain, numbness and tingling in her hands a feet, all of which come an go. I have reported this to all the doctors and specialists we have seen. She had undergone countless blood tests to rule out autoimmune disorders and all come up negative.

She began to develop severe anxiety and just had the blues most of the time. She would be crying and saying off the wall things like, "I don't think my fish is happy". She couldn't stand to be away from me and would stress out about even weather or not she would sit by me at a restaurant. I mentioned this to all of the doctors. They said to not make too much of it. One suggested she see a psychologist. NOT ONE DOCTOR EVER LOOKED AT THE SINGULAR.

Finally about 4 weeks ago my neighbor who is a scientist at a pharmaceutical company called me and told me about the "black box" warning that had just come out on Singular. I took both of my children off of it immediately. My daughter went through about a 10 day period where her anxiety got worse and then it was just gone. We are adding foods back into her diet and at this point she has not had any severe allergic reactions.

The last 2 years have been a complete nightmare for her and for us. I am a medical professional and I have had doctors treat me like a hypocondriac, hypersensitive, attention seeking mother. I feel so justified and saddened by the recent findings all at the same time. Most of all I am so grateful that we figured this out before things go even worse.

Please let me know if anyone else is suffering food related reactions as a side effect.

I've been taking Topamax now for about 6 weeks, and my headaches are still just as bad as ever, except now I have headaches with the thrill of numb fingers, confusion, weight loss, memory loss, an absolute horrid taste in my mouth, and now the latest.... my hands feel dirty all the time. Has anyone experienced this?? I just feel like my hands are dirty. I wash them, and a half hour later, it almost feels like there's a film on them, and I have to wash them again. Almost ocd-ish. So 6 weeks in.... Anyone have any advise on how much longer I should give this topamax before I give up on it & try something else? My doc said it should have worked by now if it was gonna - but I have read on here, that it sometimes can take months...? I just don't know if I can take these side effects, AND the headaches for much longer without going NUTS! {grin}
Any advise?

I got a Mirena because after laparoscopic surgery to determine if I had endometriosis (none was found) and a D&C to check my uterine lining, my periods did not "reset" the way I was told (I was 42 at the time and they told me that I was not releasing an egg every month so the endometrium was shedding erratically). What I really wanted was a uterine ablation, but my doctor was so enthusiastic about the Mirena and had been the first physician to even contemplate endometriosis was a possibility that I went along. The first day was fine, but the second day I had such stabbing pain in my abdomen that I could not stand up straight or take a deep breath. It resolved before I decided to call the doctor or go to the er. Months followed of checking off that little calendar that I had had menstrual flow that day (MONTHS. I think I started actually having a WEEK without a period sometime after 12 months of having this thing in me). I did not go back to have it removed at that time because my husband had lost his job and therefore our health insurance. In the meantime I still have the symptoms I had before I'd gone in to see the doctor the first time (stabbing pain near my right ovary during my heavy days), PLUS constant bloating, fatigue, my hair has started falling out so bad I can see the thinning at the top of my forehead, acne no matter what treatment I use, and weight gain (~20 lbs, some I can say is probably my dietary changes since DH lost his job, but even with increased vegetables/no caffeine/decreased breads, no measurable weight loss). I had attributed loss of sex drive to the fact that I have almost always been bleeding since this was put in. In fact, I went for a thyroid test yesterday because I hadn't found this site yet. I'm sure it will come back normal. Once it does, you better believe I'm going into the doctor and have this removed. I am so angry. I used to weigh over 250 pounds and worked so hard to get down to the weight I was when this was put in and am so mad that I inadvertently did this to myself.

I went on Paxil for 7 months. It worked great and took away my anxiety but I was engaging in dangerous behaviors--casual sex with multiple partners, drug and alcohol use and neglecting my job and relationships. I had a pretty good withdrawal. Had some head zaps, got a really nasty sinus infection and fever and experienced mania and rage for the first two weeks. I'd say it takes a good year for your body to come back to stabilization. ANXIETY AND DEPRESSION are survival mechanisms that your body uses to tell you that something is wrong in your life. It's a warning sign that something needs to change--you are on the wrong path. Once I started addressing my life issues, the anxiety slowly disappeared. The thing is that people are lazy. They don't want to change how the eat, their exercise, their jobs, their life, and the way that they view the world. This is the hard way. The pill is the easy way, but ironically the hardest way in the long run. Our modern world makes us sick. My advice--get off the couch, eat some vegetables and get moving. Meditation is a GREAT way to get the same effect as the SSRIs. Until you try all that and still haven't gotten anywhere, stay off the drugs.

I know this is not a new effect, but I feel so out of control with hunger. I have never had a weight problem but I can not stop eating. I was on a regimen of high dose 60mg tapering over 6mths and gained 20 pounds due to radiation pneumonitis. Unfortunately, I now have a rare pneumonia from lung injury (radiation) and am back on 40mg for at least 6mths with gradual tapering. My question....am I going to gain another 20 lbs? This cant be all water because I am really eating and feel so bloated. Not to mention the other side effects mentioned in other posts.

Also, the pain after coming off in my muscles was very intense so it must be very common. I feel 80 and I am 48.

I have been taking Phentermine under the direction of my dr. now for about 2 years (on for 6 months off for 6 months). I started at 250 pounds and I'm now at 180. My goal is 135-140.

I can not stress enough how very important it is to DRINK WATER while taking this medication. You CAN DIE if you don't.

I ended up in the hospital for severe dehydration once, and that will never happen again. My hands locked up, my body started shaking, had a fever of 104, etc,.it's not fun.

Side Effects I have experienced:

Rapid Heartbeat
Panic Attacks / Anxiety
Nervousness
Easily Irritated
Sick at my stomach
Constipation
Constantly Thirsty
Body/Hands Shake if you don't drink enough water
The constant need to stretch every part of my body (this makes you want to get up and run around)
Odd cravings for vegetables and dairy products
Insomnia
Abdominal Cramps (most likely caused by constipation)
Diarrhea (usually only if I drink lots of orange juice or Starbucks)
Feel like you are on speed (because you are)- you will clean your whole house if you take this stuff.

OKay, I don't know if this has anything to do with Mirena or not, but I have had my implant since August 2006. Typically I am a very happy, healthy person. I eat extremely heathy (almost all organic, tons of vegetables & fish & almost no processed foods). Anyhow, for the last 6-8 months have have become VERY moody. I am often grumpy, I cry everyday, I have pain in my joints (I believe it to feel like arthritic pain). My finger joints are always sore. I am a fit person & am uncapable of opening a jar anymore. And, I have this nagging pain in my lower back to the left of my spine. Like I said, I'm not sure if this is because of my mirena implant, but I take no other medication, I don't even take OTC pain meds. I'm only 27 and consider myself to be very healthy. I'm not sure what else it could be. I suppose I will have it removed & see if I can become a normal human being again. I appreciate anyone else who can share their experience...I just want to know if I'm crazy or not???

I am 45, male on lipitor for about 2 months now. I am experiencing kidney pains that wake me up at night. I have been noticing dark urination prior to the kidney pain coincidently. After doing a quick search for information on it I find that the statin medication Lipitor is the culprit - OBVIOUSLY. Not waiting for advice from a doctor to tell me what to do about it. Bye Bye Lipitor and hello more excercise with an increase in fresh friuts and vegetables in my diet. Good luck to all taking this drug.

I'm so happy I found this site. I've been thinking I'm crazy or just getting old for the last 3 years while on Yasmin. I started taking it at age 29 and almost immediately after started having mood swings, extreme irritability and depression. I had previously been on Ortho Tri Cyclen and the Ortho Cyclen before Yasmin and was on them for MANY years and never had one side effect. I only switched in the first place because I like to have very very few periods and I run all my active pills together to forgo periods very often and I was having breakthrough on the Cyclen. Hence, the Yasmin trial.

I'm actually a doctor (which is why I CANNOT have frequent periods with all the accompanying issues), but I didn't even realize the possible connection between IBS and Yasmin. This needs to be studied and taken seriously. I never once had IBS symptoms until a few months after starting Yasmin. Now, 3 years later I have almost constatnt trouble, to the point everytime I eat I run for the bathroom, yet my weight has never been higher. I asked a GYN friend at work if they could be related and she said definitely no, but reading all of these "real life" examples, coupled with my own experience has made me think otherwise. Often, the symptoms will occur shortly after taking the pill, even when I haven't yet eaten breakfast. It's crazy!!

I'm going to switch either back to Ortho Cyclen or to something new ASAP and will report back. I'm both excited at the thought that my "IBS" might really be Yasmin related but also scared that it might not go away and therefore might really be IBS. I'll report back... It honestly never entered my mind that all of it could be the Yasmin. I had just moved, started a new job in a town I hate and I thought it was all stress related.

I've also had an interesting side effect no one has mentioned yet- my hair texture has dramatically changed. It isn't falling out, but has gone from VERY curly with a nice soft spiral curl pattern to very dry, straight and hard to manage. Nothing else has changed and now I'm wondering if it's not the DRSP. If pergnant women can have hair changes, why not women on the pill?? It's all hormones.

As always with a drug, there are always possible side effects. No one drug is perfect, and humans are so complex in their make up and they way they process drugs. Therefore, please don't judge your family docs or GYNs too harshly as not even the best doctor in the world can predict every side effect.

I have noticed changes in my memory, and felt very fatigued when I first started the warfarin. The fatigue has tapered off after 5 months but I notice more changes in memory lately. I get off the med in one more month. I found the best way to control drug levels is to eat at least one frozen meal a day with a lot of vegetables, such as a Lean Cuisine that is advertised as having twice as many vegetables as a regular lean cuisine...then I eat dinner and limit leafy green vegetable intake. I'm also not positive of this, but sometimes it is harder to control when I drink a lot of green tea. Hope this helps someone.

Bingo Bitter RN!

I had trouble sleeping for about the last 3 weeks (very weird dreams and just somehow agitated and anxious), I felt about 30 years older than in the past few months and my concentration is so low, that it sometimes really "hurts" to think about complex things or read something or watch television. Everything my brain has to do is so exhausting!!

Even cooking the meals seems to be overwhelming to my head. About 2 days ago I felt like I was going to faint after cooking a meal with lots of vegetables and other ingredients (I had a lot to cut up small and to prepare). I thought I could not finish it, because my brain wouldn't be able to work any longer and my eyes couldn't fix a point!!

For another example: We are due to getting our house completed (the upper floor (attic) is still not ready) and had an architect here about 3 days ago. It was so exhausting for me to think about his plans and get anything together in my head (imagining how the rooms will be and what should be changed in his plans and so on...). After that discussion my head felt totally drained out and I felt so tired and dizzy, I nearly was about to faint!! It was so frightening!!

And also that "eye problems" are there again!! As the last poster wrote: << ...feels like severe eye strain or I'm going cross eyed>> BINGO! That's exactly how it feels to me too!!! Yesterday I had problems at our weekly shopping. It was so hard to look around and find the things I was searching for in the supermarket!!

And today my brain feels, as if it was still "asleep" somehow and couldn't be waked up by nothing!! Feels a little like comatose (dazed and sleepy)...

I'm so astound and a bit relieved (ok, though not about the fact, that you, guest, are also still suffering from Yasmin while you were only on it for 2 months!! This is so shocking....), that there really is someone, who still has the same problems as me!! And how you explained your problems AFTER your period: I felt EXACTLY that way after my first period in August 2006 (anxiety, dizzyness, weakness!!)!!! But those problems went away again than in about 2 weeks or so.

OMG, ladies, this all sounds so relieving! After reading your posts (guest and bitterRN) there really is some hope for me, that I'll be better again in a few days/weeks and I won't be going down the hill again constantly like it was about 2 years ago (in that time I still was ON Yasmin)!!

BitterRN, You've asked, if anything has changed since that first heavy period in August. Yes, I must admit that I had more stress than usual during the last months because of the band practices we had (even joined a new band on top of my other band) and I started performancing again with both of them (had already about 6 gigs in the last 3 months). I had a lot of work to do in my job (MUCH more than usual!! I'm working as an attorney's secretary). And surely not to forget the stress, that your body has during a virus infection or bad cold, which I had in starts October...

I also realized, that my weight, which was constantly going down for about the last 8 months (about 1 kg per month) has a bit levelled off. It didn't rise again but it also didn't go down very much more, which is absolutely unusual (did not eat more than before!!).

So I think my next thing to do is getting my hormones checked again. Well, if there's no specialist here in Germany, I think I'll get that test done at my gyn and try to get a copy of the results to go on with the research by myself. I'll surely visit the website you've mentioned, BitterRN, and see, what I can get there!!

Ladies, thank you again so much!! I don't know how I would be feeling right now without your encouraging tips and kind words!!

Thank you, guest, for praying for me!! I'm sure it will help, as it already did somehow in the past 2 years!!!

God bless you all and stay strong. I'll try it, too!!

And all of you ladies, please keep in touch. I think there are so many women out there who need your/our help!! Especially those, who got off Yasmin more than 1 year ago, please keep up posting and telling us, how you're doing, just to spread a bit of hope to everyone and finally find a resolution of our still lasting hormonal problems after that Yasmin chaos!!

love,
Silke

I was prescribed prednisone for a severe case of poison ivy. 60mg for 10 days, then tapering over 2 more weeks. Side effects were dizziness, sleeplessness, hunger, thirst, slow healing, pent up energy, acne, etc. My doctor also prescribed Ranitidine 300mg 2x day because it's a histamine blocker, and that helped with the all-over itching. Ranitidine is normally prescribed as a stomach aid (for ulcers/acid reflux I think), so that may have helped prevent any of the stomach/digestive side effects. I also tried to follow the recommended dietary suggestions that I learned about. I focused on potassium, calcium, protein, zinc rich foods, lots of healthy vegetables, vitamin E, etc. Try searching the internet for "prednisone diet" or "prednisone nutrition". I think all that helped! Good luck.

lisinopril has weakened me.Lisinopril causes a tired feeling in my stomach and chest that is unatural--makes my breathing difficult- and has not significantly changed my BP which is in the average range of 160/50--with or without the pharmcueticals-For the past 30 years I have relied on a diet high in seafood consumption-broad range of vegetables-vitamin and mineral pills (a long list, including fish oil) and as much physical activity as a 75 yr old man feels comfortable with. no more lisinopril for me thank you very much,,,,

Since taking Lipator I completely lost may balance.I couldn't walk through the house withu bumping into the walls and I couldn't walk down the sidewalk without shoving my husband to one side.
My skin is shriveling up and so dry it cracks. After one week of being off Lipitor my balance is back to normal, I suppose the other symptoms will take longer to get back to normal.
At first I was on a strict diet that I never varied from and still my chlorestrol did go down. The doctor said what I had was inherited chlorestol and would have to take medication for it.
So, What do I take?
Jean
