I experienced a very painful kidney infection about 3 months ago. I was already on cipro for a uti, but when my fever got to 103, I went to the ER. They diagnosed the kidney infection and prescribed me Bactrim for 14 days. I started feeling better very soon after that, however about a week into it, i started to get a slight fever again and just a general fatigued feeling. I stated to freak out that the kidney infection was coming back so i went to my doctor. He took a urine sample and told me to keep taking the bactrim and to push lots of fluids. After I finished the Bactrim, I started to feel normal again. So, after 3 months, I got another UTI. I went to my doc and he prescribed Bactrim again, this time for 7 days. Like before, I stated to feel better almost immediately, but then a few days into it, I got that low-grade fever again and the crappy, tired feeling. I went back to the Dr., convinced I was having recurring, resistant UTIs, but my urine samples showed no bacteria at all. So I went home to keep taking the Bactrim and pushing fluids. But my temp is still about 100. Not enough to keep me bed-ridden, but Im still not feeling great. I was starting to think I was crazy, maybe I just didn't know how to read a thermometer correctly. I actually started to think that, because my doctor has no idea why I have a fever. He said that I probably have a sinus infection or a virus--that's what he said the last time. Im so glad I found this site, Im convinced now it is the Bactrim. It can be so frustrating to be sick, see a doctor, and then go home with no answers. When my doctor said I had no trace of UTI, I was shocked. I was feeling horrible, with a fever, and my doctor pretty much wrote me off when he received the results from my urine tests. I thought I was going crazy--I started to think the fever was from anxiety or something. Anyway, I have one day left on the bactrim, and I guess I shouldn't take it, but I an nervous because if there is the tiniest, little chance that i did have a UTI, I want to knock it out entirely. Having it grow into a kidney infection again is my worst fear--that and Bactrim.

I had mirena inserted about 8 weeks after birth of my first child. First I weighed less then than I do now. I've had a loss of appetite and I exercise, in no way should I weigh what I do, I'm about 40 - 50 lbs overweight on a vegetarian diet. I have been having headaches, everyday, can't sleep, anxiety and depression which has absolutely had its effects on my marriage. The doctor tells me this is all because my body changed after having the baby, but I feel so bloated all the time and I'm actually wanting to have a period. I feel the restraint on my body, this is not normal. I'm having it taken out next week and we are going back to condoms.

okay ladies, I'm not sure what you all are experiencing since I'm not a doctor. But I will tell you that a huge amount of your symptoms can either be age related or post baby related. I have four children ages 15, 6, 5, 3.
The beginning stages of the Mirena granted are not pretty and can last for months. I was having a terrible time with my periods and was out of commission for the first three days of every cycle each month. I have had my Mirena for almost 2 years now and am going on 41. I had to wait it out for about 6 months before seeing any huge improvements. I will tell you this, over eating and NOT eating a healthy diet of fruits and veggies will aggravate bloating and mood swings. You could have these with or without the IUD. I never lost my hair unless I was 3-6 months post partum.
A diet rich in potato chips, bread, meats and cheesy pizza will show on your hair skin and nails. The typical American diet will leave even your special guy moody. As we age the expectation is that we will always feel 18 and I have had to come to grips with how my body ages and how I take care of it. A new baby whether it is your 1st or 4th will cause unwanted fatigue. I still struggle with fatigue because not everyone sleeps thru the night including my hubby so my sleep gets disrupted a lot. There are several things you can do to help your Mirena work for you and not scare you. I NEVER lose my sex drive unless I fail to exercise even a little each week and have fought back with a super charged diet. I'm not perfect at it but boy does it ever help. Sugar has a HUGE impact on your hormones and fatigue level. Limit it. Got to bed as early as you can and avoid late night TV. Don't give your precious zzz's to some silly show that won't help you be a better person any way. Get moving and add a little (or a lot) of weight training to your days- your sex drive will soar and your body will thank you. Pray for wisdom. God will help. Sometimes he uses fatigue to slow me down and focus on what is really important. Granted not everyone can handle an IUD. But if you try a little self care and be patient you might find that it works for you. I had heavy bleeding and at my age the doc said I got it just in time because from 40-50 I could expect more of the same. I am grateful for it because I felt like I was dying every time I had a period. A little fatigue is worth the benefits. Keep in mind that even your little ones get tired. They need naps and they are kids. We need rest in the afternoons too. It's okay to stay off the phone and rest a little if you can. My energy drainers are TV, negative people, talking on the phone too much, eating too much especially when I'm not really hungry, the wrong foods when I do eat, and not getting sleep or exercise. Start small and see if over time it doesn't make a big difference before you throw in the towel. Blessings to all and especially the new mommies.

w/o taking Statins by total C level is 300-320
I first tried Niacin, but the side effect had me with "burning" for many hours and I look like a cooked Lobster, so this was dropped.
I first tried Zocor several years ago in several doses, but total C did not fall below 240.
I then moved to Lipitor 10mg than 20mg and then 40mg . My total C dropped to 250 then 200 then 195. My doctor a couple of months ago advised a move to 80mg. I protested because was concerned that over the last couple of years I had developed Arthritis in my hands and major muscle pain in both my upper arms. he was skeptical of the linkage so we devised the following empirical experiment.

4 weeks off Lipitor and the Arthritis and Muscle pains had subsided 75/90+% rerspectively.
4 weeks back on 40mg I was back to the previous high levels of Arthritis and upper arm pains.
5 days off Lipitor again and both side effects have been reduced by 50%.

The good news is that I have seemingly found the cause of my Arthritis and Muscle pains. The very bad news is, to what medicine do I turn next. I am NOT over weight. I exercise 6 days a week min averaging 5-6,000 Calories a week. B4 I turned to Statins I was on an almost Vegetarian diet + fish, no fried foods, no butter, margarine, cake, biscuits little meat, no potato chips. In fact my diet was excellent so it seems the Cholestrol is a natural state for my body. Well natural in its production, but I need to keep it at 200 or lower to be happy.
My HDL is aroung 66-70 of that 200 while taking 40mg of Lipitor. But Lipitor seems bad for my body. I hear Crestor is coming under scrutiny as well.
No idea which direction to take next.
