I had the copper IUD after my first child and I loved it. There was only a few side effects. My periods were monumentally huge, and when I cramped before my period it went down my left thigh and drove me nuts. The periods you learn how to handle, and you get use to the cramps. I had it in for 2 1/2 years, got it taken out and was pregnant with my son the same month. After my son I went in to have the IUD put back in and my doctor gave me the "you'll love mirena sooo much more" pitch. "Luckily" for him he didn't have any of the copper ones in his office but he did have the mirena. It took 3 different inserts to get one to stick (i feel good for wasting a bunch of his money). So, about mirena. IT IS EVIL! I kept it in for a year and it was the worst year of my life. I had no sex drive, I gained 20 lbs, my periods were constant for the first 2 months, then they were gone completely (which I find yucky. I think you should have periods periodically even though they suck) But worst of all I was psychotic. I'm not joking. I actually was scared to be around my kids at times. I had this boiling rage inside me that I couldn't control and it would explode over anything. I lived like this for a year before I finally had a true breakdown and started thinking about being medicated. Then I wondered if it could be the mirena... it really hadn't crossed my mind yet. I talked to my dr. who told me that there is no way the mirena would cause any of my symptoms because the hormones don't leave the uterus. blah blah blah. I told her to yank the sucker out anyway and I swear to god, I was back to normal with in a week. I could barely look at my kids knowing that I essentially wasted a year of their lives being a hollow shell who's only sign of life was when I would spontaneously combust and scare them. I really do feel like this needs to be taken off the market. In it's defense, I have always had a pretty bad temper. It has always been pretty much limited to screaming at people though, not violence. So I think that whatever issue I have always had was made 1000000 times worse because of this stupid little thing. What makes it worse, is that you can't even talk to your doctor about it because they all just repeat what the manual says and refuse to believe that is causes horrible side effects (even though so many people suffer through the same ones).

I was prescribed Zocor for high cholesterol. Almost immediately I began to experience body aches -- some days more severe than others. I would take ibuprofen and it would help. Then, I started getting a pretty strong pain on my hip which radiated down my leg onto my foot. The pain was so severe, even the Motrin 800 mg. pills didn't help it. I am 53 years old, but I felt like a 90 year old. I had problems walking, especially after sitting for an hour or so. I had problems with stairs. Even laying down was painful. I tried heating pads, ointments, etc. When I told my doctor about it, she said that this was a typical side effect of statins, and that because I am diabetic, I need to continue taking Zocor to keep my cholesterol down. Just the other day, I stopped taking Zocor for 3 glorious days and guess what? NO pain!!! I resumed it because my doctor insists that I stay on it, but I wish there was something else I could take that wouldn't cause pain.

Wow! I cant believe other women have had these same symptoms, I started the NuvaRing about three months ago after I lost a baby very early in gestation, I swore I would never have to go through that again, so my doctor put me on the NR and I couldn't tell If I was still hormonal from the pregnancy or if it was the ring, But Im a wreck! Im so mean and hateful to my husband pretty much mean to everyone, I feel like this big mean lady walking around, and thats not me not at all I have crazy dreams, horrible anxiety, panic attacks and PMS from HELL. I have never been on birth control before so I have nothing to compare it to. But after reading this.Im really considering taking it out so I can be myself again.

when my son (now five) first started treatment for allergies at almost 3, he went on zyrtec and singulair. he was moody, grumy, and needy. i just assumed he was 3. after about 10 months the allergist switched him to pcm chewables with his singulair and he turned evil. for example, he wasn't quite 4 and attacked me one night because he didn't want a bath. it took several minutes to pry his hands of of my neck. it scared me to death. since he was already on singulair i assumed it was the pcm and finally found a pharmacist who said that it "might" can have those side effects. the allergist wouldn't accept that it could do that and wouldn't change his prescription. finally went to new allergist who changed him back to zyrtec but wanted to stay on singulair due to new asthma diagnosis. his behavior got better, but still very moody - many ppl said "spoil" because of huge meltdowns over nothing. he is now 5 and has been on allergy shots for a year. about 6 months ago the doctor said could take him off zyrtec but keep on singulair. i thought yay! mood will get better. it didn't. he was still getting notes from kindergarten teacher for talking too much, fighting, moodiness, meltdowns, etc. we took him off singulair to see how asthma would do since allergies doing better. he started getting greenlights! we still have some meltdowns and moodiness. but, it is slowly getting better. i wonder how long it takes to clear out of their system?
in the last six months we have periodilly put him back on zyrtec and singulair when allergies acting up. his teacher tends to send home notes that week asking if he is on medicine. it never occurred to me that it could be the singulair! what scares me is that 3 weeks ago he said he wanted to get a knife and cut his head off so he could "go to Jesus". i talked to him and finally decided he was just talking, don't think he truly meant it. but now, i look back and realize he was on singulair at the time!
the scary thing is that my one-year old is also on it for asthma. i got put on it recently for chronic sinus problems and my husband has been on it for years! i think I will not be giving it to any one until we talk to the doctor!

as a side note i have a friend with a 22 mo old that drs have tried to put on singulair off and on since she was 12 mo or so. every time it makes her unable to sleep. mother agreed to try it again recently because child's asthma was so bad and they ended up at the ER because the baby couldn't quit crying!

I have a 9yr that was placed on Singulair about 3 or 4 years ago with Concerta for ADD. He was always coughing at night and the doctor said it was allergies and told me to give him 5mg every night before bed. And the school said he had ADD. Well needless to say, my son weights 48 lbs and has had headaches. But he also doesn't act like a normal 9 yr old should. He does things destructively (breaks toys and destroys things in the house) and states that he doesn't know why he does things. He doesn't want to clean his room, shower, brush his teeth like he used too, and he acts depressed all the time. I ask he whats wrong and he says he doesn't know. He doesn't want to play outside or do anything remotely fun. After reading all these post I'm wondering if I should take him off the medication he's on and see what happens but I'm afraid of more side effects. The doctor says he needs to be on this medication. He has problems going to sleep at night is this a side effect? Any advice would greatly be appreciated.

AVIANE IS A TERRIBLE PILL!!!!

I know that it sounds silly, but it isn't a joke. I was on put on Aviane when I was 17 for extreme cramps and so my period would become regular, I'm now 19, and recently switched to Yaz.
The Aviane had begun to make me very very ANGRY! I was always on edge and the smallest thing would set me off. I had signs of extreme depression as well, and I am usually a happy peppy person. I never wanted to go out and do anything anymore. I was either really sad or really irritable.
I had fits of rage and violence, screaming, throwing things, I wanted to hit anyone that came near me. Then ten minutes later I would want my boyfriend to come snuggle me and hold my hand! I saw a counselor because I didn't suspect the Aviane...I had been on it for so long. But she said that I wasn't like that for no reason and needed to see my GYN, who told me my hormones were off the wall and I needed to stop the Aviane right away.
When I was on this pill I wasn't the same person. I was mean, angry, sad, irritable, I felt like I was going crazy. Now I know it wasn't me, It was my pill. My mom wants to start a class action. We will see.
