So. I have read a lot here about side effects. What have you guys switched to (i.e. what BPM are you taking now)?

Who has switched to something else and been pleased with the results?

Need specifics please on an alternative.

I am a 54 year old male who started taking Lipitor about 4 years ago. It seemed OK at first, but over the next several years I began to have increasing amounts of joint pain after exercise. Nor muscle pain, joint pain. And it seemed to be a result of exercise. By the time I stopped it, I was hurting after everything, not just exercise. I felt better within the first two weeks, but it took about 4 months for me to be able to exercise vigorously again. Over the years I seemed to have forgotten how much vitality I used to have. I am a physician, and because of the long lag time until I felt better, I wondered whether improvement might have related to other factors, so after about 5 months I decided to restart Lipitor. It surprised me that after just one dose, I got back all of the joint pain and fatigue when I was at my worst on Lipitor. I was really hurting. Needless to say, I didn't take any more.

Coincidentally, a physician friend of mine who had statin induced polyneuropathy had a similar experience. After his symptoms went away he found that after only one dose the entire polyneuropathy came back.

Stopping and restarting the drug is a way to test the correlation between the drug and the side effect. For such a large spectrum of side effects to recur after only a single dose, it argues that the problems that my friend and I had was due to some sort of immune memory response. I have not seen this in the medical literature.

I am off it now for about 8 months and am able to comfortably play singles tennis and jog - much more energy (and I took 200 mg of CoQ10 a day with the Lipitor).

April 2007--I live with my elderly parents and am on the
constant lookout for side effects. We nearly lost my
father a few years ago because of a severe, gradual aller-
gic reaction to Hydrolazine. My mother was on Lipitor and
became so weak that she fell and was not able to get up
by herself along with extreme fatigue & muscle pain. A
couple months ago my dad's doctor put him on Zocor and this
past week I began to notice a gradual deteriation of my
father's health that included shortness of breath, muscle
pain & weakness, which also affects bladder control, memory
loss, depression & a flushed face. Some people notice an almost immediate change, but with my father it has been a gradual and subtle build up of side effects. He is now off of Zocor, and, we are praying his vitality will return &
his quality of life begin to improve.

I have heart palpitations and was shocked back into sinus rhythmn via a cardio-vert procedure. I have been in regular rhythmn for over a year. However during this time my moods have become excessively black, my sleep has been irregular, and I can nod off at a moment's notice. During this time I have had lapses in short term memory and have suffered from bouts of bad judgement which I have never suffered from before in my life.

My cardio suggests keeping me on these but I feel I must get off of the medication. I have been off for up to three days and have found that my outlook and vitality has improved greatly.

it is so interesting and comforting to read about all of the crazy side effects of this pill. I recenly, about 3 weeks ago, decided to go off of Yasmin. I originally went on to reduce menstrual cramps but after a year and a half I am back to where I started with the cramps. my husband and I discussed it and both agreed to invest in LadyComp (which will arrive next week!). Anyway, I'll start by saying that over the past 3 weeks I have been INCREDIBLY fatigued, have had daily migraine strength headaches, and my breasts have been very sore and swollen. I attributed it all to a chancge in schedule due to a new job, but it's been amonth on the new job and I still feel like CRAP! After reading all of these experiences I know that it must be my body adjusting to going off of the pill...which brings me to when I was ON the pill. I just thought that I had changed. My sex drive (which had never been very high) totally crashed and I felt uncontrollably moody. I have felt like a hypochondriac for the past year and a half becuase it seemed as though every day I had some type of new ache, cramping, mood, etc. I still don't know how much was caused by Yasmin, but I am anxious to get it out of my system and, hopefully, recover my strength, vitality and sex drive. Has anyone experienced this "coming down" phase? How long does it last? Please share your stories! Women need to know about this!
In my experience, Western doctors have discouraged my "instinct" and I believe that women are being told not to trust themselves nor are we encouraged to know and listen to our bodies. I'm tired of it.
