I have been on various doses of prednisone on and off for 9 years for a kidney disease. The doses have varied from 70mg to 5mg. I have just about had enough. I cannot describe how debilitating this drug is. Every side effect on here I think I have had except excessive energy. Here is a small list:
Moon Face
Buffalo Hump
shaking like Parkinson
body aches
EXTREME weakness
heart palpitations constantly
joint pain
something would go on with my knees in the morning....it felt like something was boiling. It would be my guess as to what the "Bends" must feel like....it feels like someone is stabbing you in the knees with a knife.
Sleeping at least 16 hours a day
I could barely make everyday at work. It was so miserable to not be able to wake up, I would push myself in 15 minute increments....
You cannot know what it is like to be bed ridden for weeks and to have no doctor understand or believe what is happening to you. You just seem fat and lazy.
I am emotionally scarred by this medicine, there is not a day that goes by that I'm not terrified of having to take a large dose of this again. I just can't.
There is no quality of life at all. You can't do anything.
On top of that, there is no one to talk to, not even a doctor that understands what you are going through.
God help anyone that has to go through this. I understand.

has anyone used low dose lisinopril for kidney issues? i'm having an acute attack of nephrotic proteinuria and the kidney doc wanted to start me on lisinopril but we are waiting to see my latest round of blood work. my blood pressure has remained low (110 over 70 average) and since i've had asthma and other respiratory allergies, i'm pretty sure i would get the dreaded cough.
i am otherwise healthy, all vitals are great, except for high protein in my urine and low protein in my blood. my kidney functions all test normal. the kidney doc thicks it may be resolving on it's own so why should i risk the side effects & toxins of lisinopril?

Hello everyone,
I have tried the Depo shot, copper IUD (what a nightmare that was), and am currently on the NuvaRing. First, I will admit that my body is very sensitive to hormonal drugs. I started the NuvaRing 3 months ago and loved it initially. During the second month I started to realize that I was more tired than usual looking forward to bed as early as 8pm; 2 1/2 hours earlier than my regular bedtime. My appetite started decreasing but I still gained weight. I could only rationalize that my sudden fatigue was adding to my weight gain. I started experiencing nausea that got increasingly worst in time and my hair started to fall out. I am also having horrible nasal problems. I had a yearly physical January 13th and as usual all of my blood work and vitals were normal. I have always been in great shape so why am I feeling nausea and tired and having hair loss? I saw my gyn February 27th and ordered another round of blood test. She made me 2 appointments; one appointment for the GI doctor and one for the Dermatologist. I also took a pregnancy test that came out negative.I am not sure if the NuvaRing is the cause of all of these symptoms but I am taking it out and will see if the symptoms go away. I noticed that some women have stated that they experienced a decrease in sex drive. I can't say that I have but then again, maybe I have been to busy to notice.
Gook Luck to all of you!!

The medication I wish to post on is not listed. I know that Valerian root is in the pill, as well as a few other roots and melatonin.
Last night I took SleepMD for the 1st time. Within 15 minutes of taking the pill, I started feeling funny. I became very night leaded and my swallowing became difficult. After about 15 more minutes of trying to calm down, my breathing became difficult, and my throat felt more think inside. I started shaking uncontrollably as well. My roommate called 911, my vitals were a little high, but I was getting 100% oxygen. They took me to the hospital, where I received IV meds and breathing treatments to help.
I'm a nurse, and I know that the worst reactions come the second time you take/ingest something. The doc told me to stay away, stick with benadryl. I basically had a mild anaplylactic reaction, which would go full blow next time if I took it again.
If it works for you guys, awesome! But just be careful.

I came across this site when looking for information on Mirena lawsuits. I feel I should be part of one. I don't care about the money- just about getting this device off the market. Here's my story:
I had the Mirena inserted in April 2006 (eight weeks post birth of my first child). At insertion I had the usual pain. Nothing compared to birth! Within a week I was experiencing painful intercourse, foul odor, and stabbing pains in my stomach. I had lost a lot of baby weight by this time, but now that I look back, I really didn't lose much since. I worked hard just to stay at the same weight. I also developed a rash all over my body, which I later had diagnosed from a dermatologist as some sort of skin disease, usually caused by an allergic reaction- bad news- once you get it, you have it for life.
After several rounds of varying degrees of antibiotics (I was nursing at the time and for one round had to pump and dump), my doctors felt the infections were gone and I was okay. Soon though, I'm back in the office still complaining of these stabbing abdomen pains, painful intercourse, etc. My doctor tells me it's not the Mirena, it's something else. He convinces me to keep it in, after I asked to have it removed. (I'm the one who spent the money here, right?!) Now I have gone through PID diagnoses, you're in menopause diagnoses (I'm 24 at the time). They check to make sure the IUD is in place, and it is, so they basically write me off as crazy.
My next step is to go to my primary care and ask him if the stabbing pain could be something else- I do that and he sends me to a gastro doctor. I end up with a colonoscopy and endoscopy which reveal nothing wrong. After a few more months of pain, I go to a new GYN. This one says, let's do a new ultrasound and get the thing out. But unfortunately, I had to have shoulder surgery before he could schedule- so I'm out of it for a few months (and pain medicated so not feeling the pain down there).
In January 2008, I finally have the time to schedule to get the IUD removed. I get it out and it's not painful at all and I don't even bleed. I start menstruating normally again (hadn't had a period most of the time I had the IUD in). A few weeks later I start hemmoraging. I get an ultrasound. I have a mass on my uterus. I have surgery to get it removed. Biopsy comes back. It's benign (praise God). But, it's inflammatory tissue, cause from the IUD. More money down the drain and more time and mentally draining. Basically, the IUD got so infected that the tissue formed around it and attached to my uterus. YUCK.
Now I'm not one for lawsuits, but if ever there was a product that shouldn't be on the market- I'm going with the Mirena IUD. Every girlfriend I have that has had it, has had it removed within the first year (save my mother- but she had that old IUD in her for over 20 years-another yuck).
It's a money making machine for doctors and the drug company. And it's a super-pain. I'm feeling so much better and I'm losing weight again! Now if I could get rid of this rash! (Not likely!)

I was prescribed Avelox for a sinus for 14 days, and have been taking it for 9 days now. I couldn't figure out why I'm so exhausted, dizzy, not sleeping, having heart palpitations, and aching joints until I found this site. I will not take any more of the pills, and have a call into my Doctor. I'm not sure I trust him to prescribe another drug after he gave this to me.

I went to the Dr office for help sinus and kidney bladder infection. My regular Dr was off so I seen his partner. He prescribed Avelox , he said it would take care of both. I filled the script. When I got home my kids and their families had come to visit . so I took my pill ,started to cook. 15 minutes later it was time to sit down( they wanted breakfast food) I started to itch. The itch got worse to where I wanted to scratch my skin off . I got up from the table and went to the bathroom to grab some Benadryl pills I took 2 , they did not relieve anything so I jumped into an ice cold shower, still no relief. I called my youngest into the bathroom and said u have to take me some where now . At that point I was nervous , sunburn effect, eyes bloodshot a solid hive from head to toe and swollen really bad all over, mouth , throat and tongue really dry.confusion weak and sick to my stomach.. When I got to the ambulatory the nurse ask me insurance questions, a few minutes later I said all that is on file , look lady I can't think straight , my legs are weak and I feel like I could throw up on you as I am leaning on the counter more to keep me from falling. I said it a second time as all most of my weight is on that counter now. Then my daughter said I think she needs a wheel chair now. They got me into the wheel chair and into the room Which i don't remember getting there) stood me up and onto the first step they didn't turn me around then i just fell onto the table. The nurse said u have to turn over so I can get your vitals. I finally got turned over and she took my blood pressure. she said u have to go to the hospital, I said call my girl in and she can take me. she said no u have to go by ambulance I said she can take me and she replied back to me --------look lady u are fighting for your life, your blood pressure is 60 over 40 and dropping.they put oxygen mask on me and off we went. At the hospital the Dr gave me 3 intervenes shot and I think I passed out a few hours later I awoke and hives started to go away, but I was still anxious and weak when I left.he prescribed Prednisone and Pepcid A week and a half i still have problems sleeping and anxious but getting better will never take that pill again. I never have reactions to meds.

Vitals--35 yrs old male, 210lbs, 5'6". Three years ago, I had an agruement with my wife over dinner and brought on stress resulting in soreness in my left arm. I went to the hospital and stayed there for five days. I had an enlarge heart and a BP of 215/110. I didn't have a heart attack but was told to change my lifestyle. I was initially placed on atenol(however you spell it) but my doctor told me lisinopril was better.
I have family history going against me, my father has HBP and has had two mild heart attacks, 47 & 57 currently he's 61 and was treated by angioplas for those heart attacks and his father had four heart attacks and died at 85. Diabetes in all over my family, only in seniors.
Here's my deal, I have anxiety issues, I'm just a high-strung person. Since the two years, being on this stuff. I've noticed weakness in my left elbow at times, tingling feeling, and sometimes in my legs. I've developed this year, pain around my gall bladder and stomach pains. I don't have gall stones was checked out. I have also after six months of being on this stuff developed gaut in my big left toe, where I couldn't walk for a week. I have mini-attacks of gaut from time to time. And to add to the misery, this week, I passed two kidney stones.
I do feel tired all the time and my sex drive has weaken a bit, and let me tell you, my wife is hot and I love her to death so that's not the problem. I do get depressed from time to time. I don't get the cough as everyone has stated, but two years ago I did get pnemonia over the summer.
It's been a rough go, but let me offer hope to all. I've been trying to lose weight but been holding it on for some reason. I would recommend the most sensible solution, and we know what it is.
1. Diet--No matter what--fast food is crap-repeat after me-fast food is crap. Soft drinks are bad, yes even diet soda. Drink water and water and more water. Water is not boring when you cut fresh lemon or lime slices and put them in your glass or pitcher. Fruits, Veggies, low-sodium foods(throw away the salt shaker). Eat plain oatmeal with fresh blueberries in the morning. Zero fat yogurt perhaps as a snack. No meat. As much as I love prime rib, I had to give it up. Maybe meat once a month, or a small portion the size of your fist.
2. exercise--this is a no brainer. Just walk on a treadmill, once a day for 10-15 minutes while watching TV. Increase the minutes as months go by, but check with your doctor.
3. mediation--Half a hour daily, clear your mind, pray to God, or think about Hawaii, whatever it takes to relax.
Take care all,
John

Angry? Depressed? You can't believe how much I feel this way.
I am absolutely convinced now that this is what happened to me.
I am 54.
That first week that the ER doctor got me on Levaquin for the flu and bronchitis ( and no other medicine ) is when these entire body attacks and failures ( pain, weakness, and almost every other symptom you all have realted here, began. I had an abulance take me back to the ER as these were so bad and were so different from anything I had been experiencing with the flu and bronchitis the 3 or 4 days preceding taking Levaquin and having these attacks start within one or two days of taking this. At the ER they just check basically your vitals and when these checked out they kept giving me sedatives to stop the shaking and saying they didn't think anything was wrong with me except anxiety! Couldn't they have ONCE asked what medication I was on and at LEAST considered the possibility that maybe I was having a bad reaction to this? And IT WAS THE ONLY MEDICINE I WAS ON!
Now, I am going to have to present my beliefs again to my doctors, who when I barely mentioned this possibility the last time I saw them cut off the conversation as if I was talking about flying saucers!
If I was a doctor...one of the first things I would do is go back to when all this first started and looked at what medicine I was taking at the time. And if I saw that there was only "one" powerful drug entering my body at this time and just looked at the potential side ffects listed in their brochures...I would have suspected that this was probably a bad reaction to this!
But I can't even get them to consider this logical reflection. IT is just maddening, insane...that they won't even consider this possibility. And in the mean time, six months later I have lost my job, my legs, I still have every symprtom I had the first wek to either worse or improving levels and I am so depressed and scared that this might be permenet damage. It looks like with the new Republican shutting down on the little persons ability to sue the big corpoartions that thousands of law firms don'tt even want to consider taking something like this on. What they want are absolute fool proof cases that even a jury of Drug Company CEO's couldn't vote against.
I am going public with this and I am telling you this IS THE ONLY WAY any of us will ever get any recognition and chance at some compensatory justice here. I have already e-mailed vanity Fair. I have contacted Parade Magazine. I have left an e-mail message with well know A.P.Health issue correspondent Linda A. Johnson. I just came across this site last week and it has answered so many of my questions. But all of you. All of us, must start writing to everyone, congres people, newspapers, magazine and anyone else you can think of. I am convinced that we are the vistims of not only a terrifically poisonous damaging drug that is damaging way more people than anyone is acknowledging and in much greater ways, but we are up against a machine of extremely powerful self interest corp[orations and the individuals who own the majority interest in them but also compromised medical doctors and other health care professionals connected to this; pharmacies etc.

I am a 20 year-old male and was prescribed 500 mg. Levaquin for a sinus infection. I have about 5 or so a year, so this was no unordinary occurence. I had actually taken Levaquin before.
I took one pill at 3 o'clock in the afternoon. By 11 that night, I had broken out with bruises on about a third of my body. The next day I went to the ER, and they claimed to have never seen a reaction like this before, so since my vitals were fine, they told me to go home and wait it out. Since then, the bruises have started to fade (and itch like a wild beast) but my right hip has swelled and was very painful. It is now three days after taking THE ONE PILL, and the hip is starting to get better, but my heart has been fluttering/palpatating like crazy on and off. If it doesn't go away soon, I'll have to get it checked out again.
Up until this time, I'm a very healthy individual. I had arthritis in high-school, but it has gone into remission. I'm glad i stopped taking the Levaquin after the first time, but am now worried about the heart developement--It has made sleeping difficult and day-time life rather uncomfortable. I wish i had read some of these blogs before I took the medicine.
IN short, don't take this stuff unless you need too. I've never had a reaction to a medication in my life, but this caused one. In the meantime, my sinus infection is raging on.

To all my other sufferers of this hell, I too have been thru this agony. This started on March 12,following an pnuemonia attack. My dr. prescribed leavquin because he felt that it would attack the virus better.I took the 750mg dosage for 10 days & actually started felling normal again. I returned to work without any side affects, doing everything that I always had. But then, out of the blue and 13 days later, I started feeling bad. Me being a truck driver,I experienced the leg cramps, joint popping, light headedness, shortness of breath & fatigue. I thought I went back to work too early after the pnuemonia .The next day I had body aches all over but I had a family function to attend so I went with the pain. 3 hours into the evening I got up to go to the restroom & this is were my hell has started. Lack of breath, dizziness, unable to walk & 20min. later, severe chills. We left the party & arrived home with the chills and 102 temperature. I thought I would sweat this out but I was wrong! I wound up going to ER where my body was off the charts, elavated vitals, severe chills & muscle aches. ER setup an IV and a monitor. BP was 177/117,pulse 107,wcbc was 19,oxygen/blood ratio was92. I recieved 2 pushups of dilonted and that supressed the chills & fever. 9 hours later I was sent home with a 104 temp, messed up vitals and was told to follow up with my Dr. Saw him 2 days later, told him that i was weak, nauseous & had a bad sore throat. He gave me tagamet, have a echograph for my heart, blood work& sent me home. 5 hours passed, then he says he wanted to admit me to hosp.for "observation".
The next morning I awoke in a sweat, my throat had completly closed and my sinuses had open causing me to gag on mucus. I was so bad that i could not swallow water, even small sips and my abdominal muscles were sore from from coughing. Needless to say,in brief,I have been tested for lupus, viral infection for sinus, lung, stomach, uti & prostate(complete with biopsy testing) and full xrays of legs & spine. My veins are collasped from all the blood draws(9)-"37 vials & counting", guess what...SO FAR EVERYTHING IS NEGATIVE!!! So it has been 7 weeks, instead of doing normal activities like walking the dog, yard work, sports, etc, I am walking with a cane, have shortness of breath, extreme cramping of my calf muscles, popping joints & lots of fatigue. Next set of tests are neuromuscular & to check for the "parvovirus"(I'm not a DOG!) but now the doc seems it is related to my dog of 12 years that stays at home & never leaves the yard. The dr & his collegues still wont admit that this is the "horrific side effects attributed to Levaquin", but we all know better, may we all strive to get well!

So I've been reading all of your posts here and finally decided to share my experience. When I got the mirena put in about 7 weeks after my son was born back in the beginning of September the procedure went easy. It just felt like a little cramp then it was over. Before it was inserted tho, they gave me 2 Advil. The Dr. also had me quickly read the pamphlet about the mirena. All that I read sounded like it would be all good so I said ok to having it inserted. After the insertion I went home about an hour or 2 later I started cramping and bleeding. I figured it was ok until it only got worse. I cramped really bad like I was in labor again for about a week. I wanted to call, but stubborn me wanted to stick it out. Well after that calmed down a bit I had irregular bleeding for months after that. Each time I bled or had my period it hurt really bad. Each period also lasted for 10 days about. I finally made an appt. with my regular Dr. and she just gave me Tylenol 3's. This was at about the 6 month mark of having it in. Also by then I started suffering severe anxiety and depression. I had terrible mood swings and crying spells. Well about a month after that I went back because I needed something for all that stuff and the pain had gotten worse. My whole body hurt. So she gave me percocets, valium and effexor xr 150 mgs. I also noticed when they took my vitals this time and the last my temp was 99.4 and my blood pressure was in the 130's one time and the 140's another time. My pulse was also 111 once and 118 another time. Well about two weeks after that second appt. I developed a urinary infection and after I went in for the 3rd time and my urine was tested it came back severe infection. My vitals were 99.6 and 156 for pressure and 109 for pulse. Mind you each time my vitals were never mentioned or even a concern to the docs. Just I noticed it seemed. Well after I took the 10 day antibiotics the urinary pain went away but not my fever and I had really bad body aches. I went back to the Dr. and was given vicodin and was ordered blood tests. My vitals were all high again. I did the blood tests, made an appt. for 2 weeks later to get results and went home and suffered still. When I went back for my results the only finding was my B12 level was low. I wasn't told how low or what to do. So I got all my meds refilled and went home. I went and bought B12 vit.s. I decided to look up B12 online. Then I made an appt. to go back and get more details of it. She told me the level was 168 and she decided to get me a shot that lasts for a month and refilled my vicodin. A week later I felt a little better, but still had symptoms going on. That's when I thought about the mirena being the problem and stumbled on this site and other sites about mirena neg. side affects. I have severe acne, a low grade fever for 4 months, high pulse rate, high blood pressure, mood swings, depression, anxiety, bloating that looks like I'm pregnant and have been asked 3 times when is my baby due. I am 5ft 3in and weigh 129 so I am not fat all over just my stomach is so bloated and fat that it makes me look pregnant. I bleed for 10 days, I have NO libido, I feel strange sensations in my stomach like a baby moving, but I am not pregnant, Iove had nausea, loss of appetite, yet I can,t lose any weight, I am tired a lot, body aces, joint pain, nerve pain, tension in my neck and shoulders, headaches and low B12 levels which don't normally happen to anyone until they are over 50. Well 2 days ago after reading on this, I decided I have had it and couldn't take it anymore and took the damn thing out myself. It didn't hurt at all, in fact I couldn't even feel it coming out. It came out so easy. I don't recommend anyone doing this themselves, I am simply telling my story. I started what seems to be a period this morning. It's very normal so far. I plan on going to my new Dr. I'm getting soon and getting a check up and a pap since I'm due for one. I feel pretty good so far. No problems and I'm relieved that piece of plastic is out of me and look forward to getting my life back. Good luck to all of you!!
