I got the Mirena inserted when I was 19, had no children, but had had awful experiences on the Pill... I had tried a number of Pills, including Yasmin (became depressed and moody), Loette (spotting), Levlen ED (Crazy moods and insanely tender breasts)... etc etc.
When I am not on the Pill I am a fun loving, easy going girl with my head-screwed on, but when on the Pill I become so unreasonable and emotional.
After having Mirena inserted (so painful as I hadn't had children), I had bleeding for 3 months, cramping and bloating etc... BUT - I felt WONDERFUL for the 4 years following. NO moods, no cramps, my periods stopped completely after about 6 months, no other side effects at all.
I had to have it removed recently as I developed an Ovarian Cyst the size of a lemon and got a UTI that developed into pelvic inflammation.
I had a month with no hormonal contraception, then tried the NuvaRing (Moody and incredibly sore breasts), had another month off contraception and now im trying Yaz. It is indicated for PMDD, but I feel crazy, emotional, irrational and unreasonable on it.
I have no idea where to go from here. Mirena really suited me, but I cant have another one inserted because iv had the Inflammation. I cant stay on the Pill... I hate myself, I am a different person on the Pill.

I have been taking Omeprazole for nearly 3 years and am experiencing severe fatigue, stabbing pains in toes, tingling or numbness in toes and sometimes in fingers too, also unsteadiness. I was prescribed it because I am taking aspirin daily due to raised blood pressure (also taking something for the blood pressure! which is now back to a very good reading). I also take Naprosyn for arthritis but only when it is very bad as I don't like taking that every day. Omeprazole is supposed to help prevent possible stomach ulcers when one is taking aspirin and also Naprosyn, but I am beginning to think that the constant side effects from Omeprazole are worse than the stomach ulcers!!
I read in the press very recently that Omeprazole can cause a deficiency of Vitamin B12 in the body and a lack of B12 can cause many of the side effects listed for Omeprazole. Does anyone have any knowledge reference Omeprazole and Vitamin B12? From the posts I have read on this site, it does appear that very many people are experiencing similar side effects from this drug. What are the alternatives?

This reaction is to the entire "PrevPak", vs. just the antibiotic Biaxin. The PrevPak, used to treat H. Pylori, also contains another antibiotic, Clarithromycin; along with 2 capsules of Prevacid in prescription strength, "these are proton inhibitors" which reduce stomach acid by preventing certain actions to take place in the stomach. The side-effects of the proton-inhibitor include the potential to block the absorption of Vitamin B, calcium and an enzyme needed to process and use iron in your body. Therefore, the following symptoms or behaviors may occur, once you begin the Prevpak. a) anemia/tiredness (take some slow-release iron) b) confusion and anxiety..(B12 deficiency); c) craving for milk and dairy (calcium deficiency).

Long-term, bone breakage, and other issues arise if you continue long-term use of a proton-inibitor.

I am posting this here as many of the reactions people are associating to Biaxin seem more attributable to the Proton-inhibitor that usually accompanie's Biaxin's use for gastrointestinal issues.

Biaxin's reaction, in my case, I would say was isolated to sleeplessness feelings, strange nightmare-like wakings, disorientation, a metallic taste in my mouth, and dehydration.

All of these are considered traditional symptoms of Biaxin.

I also had itching on day 12-14 for the PrevPak dose. This is probably attributable to the proton-inhibitor possibly affecting my histamines. However, it could also be an allergic reaction to either Biaxin or clarithromycin.

If you read my prior posts I have suffered with almost every and more.
I finally called my Dr that put the IUD in about my lower back and all my other symptoms of course she said that it was not related.
Anyhow, she suggested to get a steroid/cortisone shot in buttocks . so that is was I got from my family doctor. I was in more pain for 1 1/2 weeks and then I asked for a mild muscle relaxer which she prescribed that was Flexal. I took one for 3 nights in a row and honestly I have felt extremely better!!! Although, from prior visits I'm still also taking a low dose of a fluid pill every morning for my swelling/fluid in my muscles and hip pain and I also take a good Vitamin B complex every morning for my nervous system.
I 'm in a position waiting for my husband to have a bysectomy?(sp) therefore I have no other birth control. So maybe those of you that are i the same boat as me I thought maybe what i had done may help you all too.
Let me!! Although, I'm fine right now as soon as I can i will have mine removed. I don't know if my effects will come back but I never want them again. I am spotting a little bit which I'm glad because I feel that you have to have some kind of release at sometime. I just think that is not healthy and puts your hormones in turmoil and that is why we have so many side effects.

I find the above woman's comment very strange and out of the ordinary. I wonder if perhaps there is something in her diet that is causing such an adverse reaction. Vitamin B's, in high quantities, are exactly what women need. As a pregnant woman, it is B6 that reduces and even eliminates my morning sickness. The proper balance of vitamins and minerals in Optivite ensure the proper ingestion of the B6. Love these vitamins!

I am a 44 yr old female. I have been on Zocor for 2 yrs. I have never had high cholesterol. I have a family history of heart disease and after my 44 yr old brother had a heart attack and the transplant, my doctor put me on Zocor as a precaution. I have had problems over the 2 yrs and have been to the doctor many times only to be dismissed as Oh, I need to lose weight, I need to get out of the house more, I need to exercise, It must be my depression....and on and on. I have never had a kidney or liver test in 2 years. I never knew I needed on and my doctor never tested me. I have over 30 symptoms/side effects of Zocor. I only looked into the side effects after my mother-in-law had muscle break down, an intestinal blockage and a ruptured bowel and almost died a few weeks ago. I couldn't believe what I found on this site. I immediately stopped the Zocor. I started to feel better right away but it was short lived. i felt great for 1 week and then it all crept back in on me for a week and then this last week I am back in bed with dibilitating fatigue and muscle weakness. I will now list my symptoms/side effects.
Shortness of breath; heart palpitations; droopy eye lid (left eye); eye lid twitch (right eye); optical migraines; numbness & tingling of my arms (from the elbows down) and my hands; My hands "fall asleep"; Itching all over; severe muscle weakness ( I have dropped things); muscle pain; joint pain (even the little ones in my toes); leg cramps; critically anemic (on 3 iron pills per day); ruptured ankle tendon (left ankle, currently being treated with a brace trying to avoid surgery); hot flashes/flushing; cold hands and feet; dizziness;, loss of balance; headaches; blurred vision; mental fog; confusion; loss of memory; loss of concentration; extreme and debilitating fatigue; insomnia; trouble staying asleep (wake every hour); huge weight gain; swelling of calves, ankles and feet; dark colored urine; gas; upset stomach; diarrhea; stomach pain; depression; anxiety; hair loss; bruises; mouth ulcers; back pain; tingling on top of head; heaviness in my thighs; EXHAUSTION! I feel like I am 100 yrs old. I have had nights that I thought I was dying and had panic attacks that I would not survive the night. I have 3 young children to take care of. I can not even put conditioner on my hair or shave my legs in the shower because I have to get out so quickly due to exhaustion. I have to lean on one elbow at the sink to brush my teeth. When I get out of the shower I can barely breath, I am wheezing, my heart is pounding and I feel like I will collapse so I have to get out and rush to my bed. I home school my 3 children and most days we do school in my bed. Everything is an effort. I can never plan anything because most days I am incapacitated. I may have a good day and can actually go out to dinner or Walmart once or twice a month and then I can't wait to get back home and get in bed because I am so worn out. I don't see how this drug can actually remain on the market. I am so angry and upset that my doctor never told me this could happen. When I asked about side effects I was told "oh no there aren't any really". My doctor never ran tests on me. I just can't believe this. I go tomorrow for blood work and I go to the doctor on Mon to discuss the results and all of my problems. I am so afraid that I have permanent damage to my muscles and possibly my heart. I went tot he doc months ago with shortness of breath and swelling and she did an EKG and said my heart was fine and I was not having congestive heart failure. I fear I was and still am! It is not normal to be out of breath just brushing your teeth and combing your hair. I hope we all get the answers we are looking for and that we all recover from this horrible drug. God bless you all!

I've been taking Niaspan for about six weeks now; I started out at 500mg for the first three and I'm now on week three of 1000mg. I hadn't had any side effects and I was thrilled because I can't take statins (though I do take Lovaza with success). My doctor mentioned -- but did not stress -- the "take an aspirin ahead of time" or "eat something with it) thing, so I haven't been. Three nights ago I work up from a very weird dream about my house being on fire and couldn't go back to sleep, partly because I felt hot. I got up and looked in the mirror, and as others have described, I was beet red on my neck, chest, and arms, and very itchy and hot. The "rash" was mottled at the edges. It reminded me of sun poisoning. I wasn't sure what to do; it was 5 am and I knew my partner had a bad night with sleeping already, so I didn't want to wake her. I took a Benadryl. I was wide awake, so I got onto the computer to do some stuff (never thinking I should research the damn thing!), but about 20 minutes later, I felt itchy on my stomach. I went into the bathroom and looked again. My stomach and lower back were now getting it! Interesting. I went back to what I was doing, then about 10 minutes later, my stomach was hot, so I looked again. Now my stomach and all of my back were covered, and I noticed that my neck wasn't as red. Hmmmm... 20 minutes later I looked again, and now my neck and chest were pretty clear (but still itchy) and my butt and upper thighs were getting it (stomach and back still had it). I could actually feel it breaking out on my legs! 20 minutes later, my stomach and back were clear, and my legs were covered. about a half hour later, it was completely gone. I wracked by brain trying to figure out if it was something I ate, a new detergent, a drug interaction gone wrong, but I could think of nothing. I never associated it with the "flush" my doctor told me I could get. This was so much more than a flush. The next night I was so tired that I took a half an Ambien and slept through with no problems (and remember, I had no issues before this, at least that I could remember). I thought it was a fluke. I then spoke to my father yesterday about The Rash, and he asked if it could the the Niaspan, as he had taken it before (but the flushing had been too much and he stopped). I did some research and through that I found this page. Bingo! I had already taken the Niaspan, so I couldn't try the aspirin first. Last night, I woke up at 3 feeling hot and looked, and sure enough, it was starting on my face and neck. I took a Benadryl and went back to bed. I finally fell back to sleep. I'm still a little itchy, though nothing unbearable. Tonight I will try the aspirin a half hour before and eating something non-fatty with the Niaspan. I'll give it a week to help, then I'll call my doctor. I hate to give it up if it works because I am just about out of other options to lower my cholesterol.

In taking Yaz and having it clot up my blood so badly, that I had stroke symptoms, I had some blood testing done. The doctor ordered a "Thrombophilia" test. The results came back with me being positive for MTHFR. A genetic blood clotting disorder. The type I have is very treatable with Folic Acid, Vitamin B and Baby Aspirin. But no birth control pills for me. Estrogen causes major clotting. And I could end up with a stroke or die. Considering many people have this disorder and don't even know it, I am surprised how birth control pills are handed out like candy, without these things being taken in to consideration.

This site may have saved my life! My blood pressure & cholesterol meds were changed last Sept., and like Virge, 3 months later I had a severe vertigo attack (while driving). Long story short, I have been a wreck ever since...feeling dizzy & faint, anxiety attacks, spiking BP, acute insomnia, soreness in the back of my neck, overly sensitive to bright lights and loud sounds, and several reactions to anti-anxiety meds & vitamin B pills (some of which placed me in ER!).

I've seen over 20 different doctors & specialists, and NOT ONE has ever questioned the Simvastatin. A couple weeks ago, I Googled Simvastatin & vertigo and saw that vertigo was listed as a side-effect...then I saw the notes on this site. This prompted another visit to my doctor.

I've been off it ever since, and have noticed a substantial change for the better (I can sleep well again!) - although I'm still always dizzy and my BP has risen. I'm hoping that by taking it for so long, I haven't incurred any substantial long-term side-effects! I'm also wondering why some of us react so negatively to the drug - if there is another underlying medical condition that would cause such an adverse reaction?

I had my thyroid removed 16 months ago. I had nodules and biopsies, but the biopsies couldn't tell if the nodules were cancerous or not---so I had the whole thyroid removed at my doctor's advice. I have been taking Synthroid and increasing the dosage---now up to 200---and I have gained 37 pounds!! I can't stand myself any more, none of my clothes fit,and I am so unhappy. I had gastric bypass surgery 9 years ago and lost 123 lbs. I had gained 20 lbs, but was stable for 7 years. Then I had the tyroidectomy and -boom- I'm fat again. I am really panicked. I don't want to gain all my weight back. It seems like I get fatter every day. My endo doesn't take me seriously, he says my thryoid is at the right level. I don't know what to do!!!!

I started on Yasmin about 3 years ago and about 4-6 months on it- I started experiencing ringing in my ears. The ringing started with just 6 hours at a time maybe every other month- very minor in the beginning. Gradually the ringing would last longer and would occur more frequently. I saw an ENT Dr., hearing tests, MRI, you name it... There was nothing that came up and then I started doing some investigating in trying to make connections with the pill and the ringing. The pamphlet that it came with said that you could experience a deficiency in Vitamin B, B12.. whatever. So, I thought that I could start taking the B Vitamin and perhaps that would help.. I haven't gone off of it yet, because this pill has been amazing for me.. I don't have mood swings, heavy periods, bad cramps on it.. I love it compared to Ortho and the generic.. I felt like I was going insane on those! I think I just need to get off Yasmin altogether because of this ringing in my ear.. I really am trying to search for some answers!! If anyone has experienced ringing in their ears with Yasmin and never had it before- please email me... My doctors say that there is no connection and if everything else is great with the pill to stay on it; they say I have Meniere's Disease.. Also, I started getting a rash on the front of both of my calf's.. nothing to serious.. they say that it shouldn't appeared right away, instead of half a year later.. I'm at a loss.. like I said this pill has been great...

I am participating in a research study for Wellbutrin helping smokers to quit. I am 25 years old. The study is a double blind study so there is a possibility that I am on placebo...but judging from my feelings - I am not. I have been on wellbutrin for 8 days now. I went from 150mg to 300mg in the course of 3 days. My symptoms/side effects include feeling "blah", not having interest in conversation, coordination problems (I have had issues with walking up and down stairs; almost to the point of falling), small episodes of memory loss, and I am thinking possible hair loss. The hair loss is the most devastating to me and I am going to stop taking wellbutrin because of it. I will find another way to quit smoking - there is no sense in taking something that is going to make me feel horrible about myself. Has anyone quit taking it and have their hair grow back?

I had a shot of Imitrex in the hospital for a migraine and it made me feel like my head was on fire!!! I hated it so much. They gave it to me as a perscription in pill from the next day so I thought maybe since the other one was a shot this wouldn't be so bad. I took it with my husband home because I was afraid to take it alone. I felt fine for the first 10 min then my head started to burn and my whole body started to ache and I could not fall asleep it was horrible!! It got rid of my headache but I rather have the head ache than having my body feel like its dying!!

Hi Girls,
I haven't posted in a while, but I was wondering how everyone was doing with the weight gain. I have now been off Yasmin for 1 yr. I am feeling really great, I am now back to being able to run/walk or rollerblade 4-5 miles a day 4-5 times a week. My cycles are more normal than ever. Not exactly 28 days more like 38, but I'm ok with that.

The thing that is still getting me is that I not only can't lose weight, I'm still gaining it. I think I have now gained 40 lbs. I am taking vitamin b as well as women's one a day. Don't really want to take any more drugs though.

I had my thyroid checked when I was on the pill and going through the awful hell, had most of the side effects you have all posted, tingling, chest pains, anxiety, the list goes on. But they said thryoid normal and of course nothing wrong with me. Like most of you went to a zillion doctors about a yr. ago. But decided I was just going to give my body time to get back to normal.

Has anyone had similar problems with their weight. I just don't get it, I couldn't feel healthier, or be any healthier with my activity and lifestyle, but I just feel like I'm getting bigger and bigger, and according to the scale I'm right!

Any thoughts would be great. Silke how are you feeling?
Thanks,
Hill

This is so incredibly difficult! I have been off of Yasmin one year now, and I am still having serious problems. I am having severe anxiety, nausea, lightheadedness, extreme fatigue at times. This is day 8 of my cycle and is the first day I have not vomited since day 5. I ended up at the doctor on day 5 and was given blood and urine tests of which I have not yet heard results, besides the fact I am not pregnant :) I take Clonozepam occasionally for the anxiety, but it seems to just make me very tired and weak (I only took 0.25 mg this morning). I was fine last week! I have been taking a general multivitamin since I stopped Yasmin, but I just went to take a Vitamin B-50 Complex. Should this help? Are there any of you out there that are STILL fighting this???????????????

Flowerbabies,
You mentioned in your last posting about how to deal with anxiety attacks, specifically replacing negative thoughts with positive ones. When you said this about negative thoughts, I knew it was time to ask this. I am so ashamed to ask this question, because I have not told anyone this in detail, but has anyone else had very grim or violent thoughts? I mean thoughts that you would NEVER think normally? It is getting a lot better for me - I do not have them as much anymore but sometimes a very violent or graphic image will pop into my head for no reason, and I will get scared and think "Why is my brain thinking this awful thing?" I usually always get a panic attack after these thoughts, because I am afraid I am going crazy. I am a very sensitive person and do not expose myself to violent images, so these thoughts that I feel like are happening to me - instead of me controlling what I am thinking - scare me half to death. It has taken me 2 months to ask this question on here because I am so ashamed. I do want to add though that in general I feel much much better, and these thoughts do not appear as often as they used to. I am assuming the reason for this is lack of serotonin production in the brain or at least my hormones/brain/chemicals trying to get back on track, etc., which I am trying to combat with valerian, vitamin b supplements, etc. Anyway, am I the only one with thoughts such as this? Please please please write back if you have experienced this hell.

For Lisinopril dizziness, I take Vitamin B Plus and drink black coffee with sugar.

I noted that iced coffee keeps me focus.

I cut my 10 MG Lisinopril in half with a pill cutter and take 1/2 in AM and PM.

Hi ladies, Lisa, 2girlsmom, Sherry, and everyone else!

GOOD NEWS from Silke:

I FINALLY GOT MY FIRST NORMAL PERIOD after stopping Yasmin in February 2005!!!!! It's taken me the whole of 1,5 YEARS to get here where I'm now!!! I really was about to think I'm already menopausal in the age of 31.... And I'm so proud that I stood this 2,5 years lasting Yasmin-agony without any medication or antidepressant or anything else...

So ladies, my story is the proof:

Please give your body the time it needs after stopping Yasmin to get back its own balance!! Your body can heal ITSELF; if you were healthy before Yasmin you also WILL be AFTER Yasmin, all it needs is time and VERY MUCH patience!!!!!

I refused to do anything to my body after the nightmare with Yasmin, my gyn told me last year, that he could give me "something" to get my period and I REFUSED to take that stuff!! And I'm so glad, I did!!! God knows what this stuff perhaps would have caused again to my hormone balance....

I feel so happy and delighted ladies, I can't tell.... Well, I got a little cramping, I feel nauseous, got a little headache and a little dizzy, well, just normal things during your period, and nevertheless feel HAPPY!!!!

My weight is still going down month by month without working out more than before or eating less... My whole system is healing itself, I felt it and now I also can SEE it!! :)

So again this goes out to every Yasmin victim:

Get OFF that stuff, as fast as you can, midpack or not, throw it away!! And then be patient and WAIT for better times. Take a little magnesium and/or Vitamin B to help your body, drink lots of water and eat healthy. That has been my plan for the last 1,5 years and it helped!!!

The hair loss after Yasmin is completely normal!!!! That happens due to the hormonal changes you're going through. That even happens to some women after pregnancy!! And taking the pill is something like a "false pregnancy"!!!

After getting off the pill I also had dizziness, nausea, and many other things, but I always kept in mind: It's just the hormones trying to get back in balance; every few weeks those symptoms got worse and then better again (well, always around ovulation and then again around the time my period SHOULD have started) and BINGO: that's what it was!!!

Ladies, that was a very hard time for me, as you know if you've been reading all of my posts since 2005 and now I'm back again!! Sometimes I thought, I couldn't bare all that anymore and nearly was about to give up my life, I swear!! Trying to put me on antidepressants in January 2005 just made it worse and I'm so glad now, that I stopped taking that stuff after one week and never touched it again!!

In my worst times I only had some valerian with me, which isn't knocking out totally out but just calms down a bit. And it worked!! And since around May 2005 I even didn't take valerian again.

Ladies, YOU CAN GET OVER THAT agony by yourself, even if it needs a lot of power. Believe me: I KNOW it!!!

Best wishes to you all and god's bless!!!

Silke

Hi Everyone it's Hill.
I've been off Yasmin exactly 10 weeks and 1 day. I have been feeling really well. Almost back to my old self again. Just to update. I went off in the beginning of my new cycle. I think I took two pills. Then I immediatly got my period.

I got it again exactly 28 days later for about 3 days. Last week I started spotting a little bit every day, not much though. I thought that was my period, since the last one was short. Although mon, I got what I can only imagine is my real period and I have had it since. I am pretty tired and kinda just down right now or blah. I don't feel quite myself. A bit dizzy and weak etc. I know it's because of my period but just wanted to see who else went through this, after being off of it so long. Because last month I was fine. I guess I'll have my ups and downs.

I haven't had any numbing in my arm and face for a long time, however I had it a bit this morning very slight. I guess this is again normal from what I have read here.

Also I know I have posted this before, but I really need help in losing the weight I gained in the past 6 months before I stopped Yasmin.

I am taking women's one a day every day, vitamin E as well as Vitamin B b/c I readsome where that helps regulate periods. I take yoga 1-2 times a week, run 2 times a week and walk or hike 1 day a week. I really thought the weight would fly off, but it seems as if i'm getting bigger and bigger and my skin isn't as firm.

Any suggestions?
Thanks so much
Hill

Hey Lisa!

Are you taking any supplements as magnesium or vitamin b? It seems as if your body needs more of them around ovaluation and right before your period starts or during that time! Numbness or tingling can be symptoms of a loos of electrolytes and vitamines (which are doubtless caused by bcp and especially by yasmin!!).

I suggest you should search over google or such for symptoms of a loss of a lack of vitamine b and magnesium. I'm pretty sure you'll find there many of the symptoms we are all going through!!

So if you don't take anything like that until now it maybe worth a try.... I'm taking Magnesium nearly every day and I feel that it helps with some of the symptoms, that are still there.

Hi All,

I am 2 weeks off yasmin now. Was on yasmin for a month.
My vision is blurred so i need to get my eyes checked.
Morning nausea has lessened as have my burping episodes.
But especially in the mornings my cheeks and sinuses hurt and my mouth feels very dry. All around my mouth skin gets really dry and rough. Sometimes i feel as if some cough is stuck in my throat although after stopping the pill my throat at least doesnt hurt and pain anymore. Any suggestions as to how i should get out of the dehydration? I drink more water nowadays to make up for whatever i must have lost when on yasmin. I used to take vitamin B pills to reduce my fatigue which is a lot better now. I dont feel like dropping off to sleep in the day.
