I've had the Mirena since Aug. 2006 - three years now. I considered having it removed because of intense irritability, depression, suicidal thoughts, and lack of interest in sex the past 5 months. I went to my doctor's office this morning to have it removed, but kept an open mind to alternatives. I'm 39 years old, and the doctor indicated that at my age, some of these issues are normal. I found a list of Menopause side effects, and many are similar to Mirena's side effects! At any rate, I asked if there is a way to offset these side effects so that I can keep the Mirena. She gave me an estrogen patch called "Vivelle", and I'm hoping that will help. Has anyone else tried estrogen therapy to offset Mirena's side effects? I still have the Mirena and will follow up in a few weeks.

Started using Vivelle-Dot 0.05 in March 2008 and in June of 2008 started getting an allergic reaction which was skin redness and irritation which turn into an open wound on my stomach with pus oozing out.

55 year old female
I have been on Toprol 5 years. 50mg. it works for me but since it went generic,I wonder...I am on 10mg lexapro and December started the vivelle-dot for my hotflashes. It is now June and the last 4 weeks my hair is falling out big time.
It is so thin I have to wear a scarf as not to scare small children at work.!! :)
I have talked to a couple of hairdressers and they have told me many of they're clients with thinning hair were on Toprol.
Anyone heard of this? Please help me figure this out.

After approximately six months of Vivelle-Dot - .05 mg experienced increasingly severe back, calf, ankle and foot pain to the point where I could barely walk or stand. Vivelle-Dot only medication.
• Numerous orthopedic appointments for back and feet;
• X-rays;
• MRIs
• Treated for Achilles tendinitis;
• wore light boot at night for several weeks;
• wore lydocaine patches;
• wore heavy boot during the day for six weeks;
• Physical Therapy;
• PAIN, pain and more pain

Researched Vivelle-Dot on internet. GYN suggested going off patch for a month. Stopped using Novartis VIVELLE-DOT (.05 mg) patches (Estradiol transdermal system) May 11, 2008. All symptoms related to my legs vanished within several days.

I had a hysterectomy and developed nightsweats and hot flashes. The doctor gave me the Vivelle patch and I was fine for 3 months. I took it off for about 4 months until the hot flashes returned. I went back on it for a month and out of no where I started to have mini black outs. I also had neck pain, numbness and a dull headache. I was rushed to the ER after an episode and was checked out from head to toe. They could not find anything wrong with me. I had put a new patch on one day and noticed the symptoms getting worse. I have taken it off since and everyday feel better. The doctor's are not convinced it is the patch but I know my body and feel it is the cause of all my symptoms.

I just took a prometrium pill tonight for the first time in order to help with my sleep disorder and menopause symptoms. I had visited with an endocrinologist who had prescribed this medication to me along with Synthroid and Vivelle . An hour after taking prometrium I started experiencing severe shortness of breath along with heart palpitations to the point where I thought I was going to have a heart attack ! I am seriuosly thinking of discontinuing all these drugs and allowing nature to continue it's course......seems much safer and comfortable than modern day drugs !
