I have been on lisinopril for 4 years and today was the last one I will take. The doctor told me this morning to get off of it. I had shortness of breath, hoarseness, coughing til I gag, cramping, loss of hair and itchy skin and rash. I cannot believe that for 4 years I felt like this and never connected it to the medicine. I hope tomorrow will be a good day for me. I have suffered for 4 years because I thought I was just spiraling downward. I couldn't take walks anymore and always related it to my stressful job. I am on the right path now.

I just want to reply to you and everyone else who is having difficulty with doctors acknowledging mirena side effects. I work in pharmaceutical research and what people need to understand is that clinical trials only test on samples of about 5,000 patients and the side effects observed in those people are the ones acknowledged in the literature your doctors are referring to. The problem with that is for a drug sample population to statistically represent the actual US population it would have to be at least 30,000 people. This is not feasible even for the most profitable big pharma companies. So once these drugs get to market, there are inevitably going to be people experiencing side effects not reflected in clinical trials.

That said, I had Mirena put in 6 weeks after giving birth to my son in August 2008. Pre-preg I weighed 132, at 9 months I was 173. I left the hospital weighing 152. When i got mirena inserted i had been loosing slowly due to breastfeeding, but I was loosing and weighed 145. By Christmas 2008 I weighed 155. So I started working out, circuit training 45 minutes, 5 days a week, and eating much healthier for 6 weeks. Like others assuming it was a change in lifestyle, stress whatever. I didn't loose a pound. After no success I cut down to less intense workouts but kept eating well. By June 2009 I was 163. At 132 lbs pre-preg at 5'4" I never worked out, I'm not kidding, ever and I was not a healthy eater, I just wasn't a big eater.

So August 10th 2009 at 168 lbs and fed up, I went to the doctor to have it removed. They insisted it was not the mirena, but if for no other reason I had to find out for myself why I could not loose weight, if i was still overweight afterwards then so be it, but I had to know.

I'm glad to announce that today September 21st, I have "inexplicably" lost 21 pounds in counting. I have not worked out like I did in those six weeks, brisk walks at the most, and I have continued eating healthy. I'm not advising anyone on what to do, I just know when I was contemplating getting this thing removed, I wanted to hear from someone who had actually gotten it removed. Also, I did not the emotional or dermatological side effects others described.

I have posted a couple of times previously about negative side effects, i.e. migraines, weight gain, acne, chin hair, eczema, lower back pain, no sex drive...and the list could go on. As a mature 36 year old woman I have educated myself over the past couple of years and can really only attribute all these issues to having the Mirena inserted 4 months after the birth of my daughter 3 years ago. Although at this time my doctors will not openly acknowledge these side effects, I am confident that one day they will. I encourage women to report adverse side effects to the FDA. It onlt takes a minute or two. Who knows, it may be the hormones or it may be the silicone plastic? It has to be something. It should also be acknowledged that some women, my very best friend for one, have had wonderful experiences with the Mirena. I really think it may just depend on the woman and her own body. I am having mine removed tomorrow after researching all of this for about 8 months. All I can say is, thank goodness. I am also scheduled for the Essure(permanent birth control). Food for thought for the older women in the group. Whatever each of you decide, realize you are not alone and you do not have to continue to feel the way you do if you believe that the Mirena could be making you feel so bad. Take care.

I am 26 and just gave birth to my first child. I had Mirena put in just a week ago and was very excited about this form of birth control. However, it has been the most uncomfortable week of my entire life. Not only did I have the most intense cramps at the time of insertion of the device, but last night I awoke in the middle of the night to the MOST EXTREME pain in my lower abdomen that I have ever felt. It felt like someone was pulling my insides out. I was so sick with pain that I went to the bathroom and ended up vomiting and curled up on the floor crying out for help at 2am. My 8 week old son was crying so much because I know he was scared for how his mommy was sounding. My husband took care of him while I got in the bath and nearly passed out from the pain. It subsided about 2 hours later and I was able to fall back asleep. I called the office today and had it removed!!! I already feel like I am ME again, and without some alien object in my body trying to trick it. Maybe I should have gone with a copper one... but I think I will just stay away from it all together and use the pill or the shot or SOMETHING other than any kind of IUD.
Also, I gained in excess of 70 lbs with my son (how that happened is beyond me! I started at 130!) and was loosing it steadily since my son's birth. However, this last week I have not lost a pound and truly believe it is because of Mirena. I did not change my diet and have been taking even more walks and getting more exercise than before.

I started Lipitor 2 months ago, today is April 23, 2009.
1 month ago I started with Vertigo, doctors have tried many things to get rid of it but can't.
! week ago I started having trouble breathing, talking very short walks, problems still with vertigo, pain (headaches) on my left side, and I never have had headaches, pain in my neck left of the c-7 vertebrae.
Now 2 days ago I have problems swallowing food in the center of my chest, it really hurts, so now I am on an ice cream diet to figure things out.
I went to my doctor yesterday due to all my problems, which are all new in the past 7 weeks, and she did an x-ray, and blood work thinking I had a blood clot in my lungs.
At 6:30 pm last night 4-22-2009 she called me to go to the emergency room and have a cat scan done, and the results were I am loaded with lip-nodes in my chest and arm pits, and it look like cancer, so I have an appointment today at 2:00 pm to see what the plan of attack is.
God Bless,
L. G.

My experience with Zocor was related to increased difficulty breathing; SOB was present with all exertion no matter how light. After awhile, I just stopped doing much of anything. The smallest exertion, such as getting ready for bed {brushing teeth, hair, washing face and putting on a night gown} invoked labored breathing and a pounding heart. After a week off the drug, the symptoms all by disappeared; now, 4 months later, I am up and around, walking longer walks and not short of breath. My problems may have been related to muscle weakness, but the heart is a muscle and the lungs function in conjunction with the heart.

i took lupron only once and stopped because of all the side effects. immediate side effects were back pain, MAJOR DEPRESSION and mood swings, blurry vision with extra sleep in the eyes.

i have endo and had a laporoscopy for it but still had pain so doc said to use lupron. it is the worst drug i have had to take with the most side effects. I ONLY HAD ONE SHOT and i STILL HAVE BACK PAIN 6 months later!!!!! i am a drummer and now cannot play the drums. i have tried acupuncture but did not work for me just made pain worse. i also have gotten more acne, blurry vision, stomach issues. my life is not the same and now i have the side effects from LUPRON AND ENDO.

I went to docs for the back pain told them i took lupron they cannot find anything wrong. i went to a rhumatologist also. i am supposed to get a bone scan to see if they can find anything but they are doubtful. the only thing that helps with the side effects are back rubs, heating pads, tiger balm, taking walks, breaks from the computer and an occasional puff from mary jane seems to be the only things that help.

DO NOT TAKE LUPRON THIS DRUG IS BAD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lipitor 20mg
*Muscle deterioration:*
I had to stop taking walks.
*Diarrhea:*
I am sorry to tell my doctor doesn't know how to treat me.
He raised Tenormin to 50 mg a day, and it made a catastrophy. Severe electrical heart problem. Very debilitating. Permanent chest pain. I acted: I reduced it to a minimal level of 12.5 mg a day.
I have stopped Lipitor 20 mg and replaced it with.

Nattokinase
CoQ10 (Ubiquinol)
Cucurma
Lecithin
Omega 3
Magnesium supplements
Very effective!
Above is from science. Lipitor is from business.

Now, all angina symptoms are gone. No more arythmia.
I have also dropped one aspirin a day, and replaced it with Allicin. (Concentred garlic)
I have learn that aspirin is doing the opposite of the expected effect for 40% of people. It is causing a sever eye pathology, macular degeneration, and stomach bleeding. And after many months it has no beneficial effects, only adverse effects.
Garlic has so many positive side effects.

I ran across this site today and THANK GOD that I found it!! My mother wasn't initially given Lipitor because the first statin that her doctor prescribed made her very nauseous. He switched to 40mg of Lipitor about 2 weeks ago and she still gets extremely nauseous and have begun coughing and experiencing cold like symptoms. Her vision is EXTREMELY blurred; so much that she can't perform her job, and her previously prescribed eyeglasses are useless. She had been experiencing pain in her legs during walks that never seemed to get better. We NEVER associated it with Lipitor or the other statin until I decided to dig a little deeper.

I asked her if her doctor had told her to take CoQ10 whilst taking these statins and he's NEVER mentioned it!! As of today, my mother will no longer be taking these "medications". Reading these posts has been eye opening, to say the least. Thanks!!

My Dad is 75 years old has been in and out of the hospital because of exasperations brought on by COPD. He is fine when he gets out of the hospital with 40mg of Prednisone then like many others tapers to 30mg, 20mg then 10mg until he isn't taking any. Then the exasperations start he's back in the hospital and the Prednisone cycle begins again. I have notice he has mood swings as he has become very irritable. He also use to work out with light weights ever morning, he no longer has the desire. He also use to go for walks, in the park treadmill etc. he no longer does those activities either. I also notice his eyes look different. I realize this drug is keeping him alive, but he has become a different person.

I was on 50 MG of Topamax and 1/2 Phentermine tablet for 3 months as part of a physician's weight loss program. In that time I lost 38.1 lbs (had little appetite, but had lots of energy and exercised by walking over 1 hr every day or every other day....depending). One week after my 3-mo weigh in, I started experiencing heart problems during one of my walks. I felt dizzy, I was sweating more than usual, I was lethargic and I just didn't feel "normal." The next morning I felt good so I went for my walk. The problems from yesterday intensified during my walk and I had to quit after 1 hr. I was very dizzy, sweating a great deal, I was very lethargic and I was nauseous. It also felt as though my heart was jumping out of my chest (palpitations). I went home and couldn't get out of the chair; that's how tired and bad I felt. That afternoon, I drove myself to the doctor. My blood tests and urine screen were "normal," but my EKG (on-site and immediate) was abnormal. I have always had "irregular EKG's" due to what I call "an extra beat." But this time my heartbeat was "enhanced" and not "normal" for me (doctor's words). The chart showed that I was having many palpitations (strong, irregular ones). I was told not to walk and not to leave town over the holiday weekend (the doctor still didn't believe the medicine was to blame since I had been on both over 3 months). I stayed inside much of the weekend, but finally went to a store to return an item. After 10 min in the store, I felt HORRIBLE (worst ever). I was so dizzy, very nauseous, I was sweating (in a very cold store), my heart was jumping and it was difficult to take more than a few steps. I went home and spent the remainder of the weekend in the house. On my own (2 days later), I cut the Topamax in half and took the usual 1/2 pill of Phentermine. I started feeling better that same day. The next day I did the same w/ my mediation and felt MUCH better (although not 100%). On day 3, my doc phoned me at home. When I told him I had cut down on my Topamax and felt much better, he told me to immediately stop taking BOTH drugs. I did and I improved daily. On day four I was 100% better. After a week and 1/2 of overeating (and being depressed about it), I began taking 1/2 tablet of Phentermine (but no Topamax) w/o my doctor's knowledge. That was 3 days ago. I am feeling well with an occasional palpitation (minor though). I am back to having little appetite. I see my doctor in 2 days. He may be unhappy that I put myself back on the Phentermine, but at least now I KNOW that TOPAMAX was what caused the majority of my heart problems. I am not sure what my doctor will do (probably demand I stop taking the Phentermine); I am hoping he will place me on a safer drug that will help me reach my goal of a total weight loss of 100.5 lbs. I have been overweight for 18 years (since my marriage) and I am FINALLY determined and motivated to lose weight by eating less, eating right and exercising. PLEASE be aware of taking Topamax!

I have been on atenolol for about 9 months. I take 1/2 of a 25mg tablet. I also experience tiredness. At times I have weak moments that last about 20 minutes, then I began to feel better. I have some cramping in my calves at times. I walk each day but have shortness of breath during these walks. I thought that is was just because I have trouble pulling the hills. I also have the cold fingers and toes at times. I do feel a little depression and don't have much creativity as I once did. I read that Atenolol could cause congestive heart failure. I'm thinking of tapering off, any comment?

This is my story. My daughter 14, the most precious child ever born. She has a wonderful disposition always happy, loving, and determined to succeed in whatever she does. She just brightens everyone’s world.
She suffers from severe seasonal allergies and mild asthma. She takes approximately seven allergy/asthma medicines a day during peak season. Over the past two years she has been taking Singular as one of her medicines. Being 14, sick of taking medicine she would not take the Singular on a regular basis. Approximately four months ago “MOM” says, if you take nothing else take your Singular it will work both for the seasonal allergies and your asthma. She has been taking this regularly four the past four months.
She became paranoid, she became a compulsive eater and bites the skin on her fingers. She would eat and chew on her fingers at the same time, until she choked. She had so much anger, she could not even go to the mall without temper tantrums.(As a child she never had any tantrums ) Always afraid. Severe depression set in. She would cry at a moments notice. She would say, I have a very sad life, sad very sad, nothing makes me like this, I’m just sad. She felt she should go live with the homeless people. I asked her why, she didn’t know, she felt maybe that’s where she belonged. Nightmares and sleepless nights.
She needs help quickly. Before calling the Doctor, I went on the internet and entered Singular and depression and I found 1900 entries, all people telling me what I was experiencing. Could this possibly be the answer for us? I called her Dr and told him what I thought, he said he has never had anyone that this has happened to. He hoped it was the answer, but really didn’t think is. He said if it wasn’t the answer she would need therapy, mood stabilizer and Prozac.

Its day four off Singular, she smiling, no tears today, no temper tantrums, looking forward to school next week, wants to play volleyball next year, singing in the car,
I hear that happy voice again.(Hi, Mommy!!!!!!) Every once in a while a glaze comes over her face. She isn’t a 100% back, but I know it is coming.

To all the people that don’t have the happy ending, I will pray for you and hold you in my heart forever.

I'm wondering the dosage on some of these severe cases. My son is on 5mg for 5 yrs. He has been very emotional at times and for no apparent reason. Has trouble going to sleep, sleep walks at times as well. He's on this for allergy only. Are asthma sufferers on a higher dosage and possibly experiencing more ADHD symptoms. Just a thought

I started taking Yasmin 2 months ago and have not felt right since the day I started taking it. I just haven't been myself lately and couldn't figure out why. After reading about the side effects others have experienced, now I know what the problem is. I've been extremely tired and have started feeling depressed. I've gained weight and in general feel extremely bloated. I'm a runner and even though I have been running, I can't seem to lose the weight or bloated feeling. I've also had random bouts of nausea, and absolutely no sex drive. I am going off of it ASAP.
