Murdered by Levaquin.
This may be hard so bear with me. I need to give you a little background to show what an injustice (criminal you be the judge) happened to my soulmate. Her lifelong dream was a humble little spot in the wilderness and at 58 and on a disability we were able to make that happen; and she was happier than I'd seen her in years. Existing conditions included depression, anxiety, fibromyalga and chronic fatigue, and a thyroid condition that she got from over radiation for Graves disease many yrs. ago. Oct. 07 she came down with pnemonia and made a trip to ER. the Dr. saw something he didn't like so prescribed Levaquin. She left there sure she had lung cancer. Three days into a 10 day course her lower extremities became extremely painful and swollen, a call to her GP was never returned. We thought she was experiencing some effects of pneumonia or cancer. 2-3 wks. later a dr. appt. where she was in such bad shape she had to wear my shoes and be carried from car to wheelchair she could barely walk. An alternate dr. saw her. got xrays prescribed more levaquin and prescribed water pills for her swollen lower extremities. 2-3 weeks later side effects much worse has now traveled up to her midsection (peripheral neuropathy) she is now wheelchair bond going to dr. office and guess what lung hasn't cleared up yet so more levaquin with no solution or idea what is happening to her body ( she was terrified and in horrific pain. So she was prescribed 3 courses of levaquin and ignored the blatant side effects. The next several months at home were hell, the neuropathy continued up her body, she could no longer feed herself or hold anything in her hands. Every day the pain and frustration were unbearable and she cried for hours at a time. I couldn't get her to go to hospital as by now we knew what we were dealing with PN and it is irreversible and she knew she was dying and if she left she'd never see her dream home again. We finally got her to the hospital, they wouldn't accept my Achumes Razor and suggested numerous things conducted numerous tests including a Gallum scan and still no answers. She deteriated fast. She was within a week about 63 pounds and suffering severe sycosis with hallucinations. She experienced depersonalization. She had severe pain to the touch. I now know she is going to die and I'd promised her I'd never let her die in an institution but we could get no home care. They now wanted to kick her out of hospital after 3 months and suggested a hospice and although terminal she was undiagnosed so did not qualify. I have seen both parents a brother and numerous people die from a variety of ailments but this was truly a horror show esp. the psycosis and pain she was in. It scarred my heart and soul forever. No insurance so I am fighting to keep our dream home and keep her memory alive, made it a year but the future is uncertain. She died July 5 07, 2 days after she died the FDA put out a black box warning label so how come every time i insisted it was that poison they would not take me seriously. I now know what drives people over the edge to retaliate in some way. In Canada I don't think there is any class action happening, but in everybody that knew about it it would appear like gross negligence at least giving it to her 3 times after showing adverse reactions after first course. She was stolen away form me and her daughter just as she had reached peace and serenity. It breaks my heart continually and I don't know what to do with this rage I feel. It is now 13 months and no autopsy, apparently a hold up at pathology. Feel free to comment I really can't believe she's gone I haven't disposed of anything or even changed the house in any way.

I got my mirena put in in nov of 07 after i had my son. i had really light periods after then i bleed for 1 day every 3 months til june of 08 when i bleed lightly for the whole month. then October of 08 they stopped completely and its been sooo great ! but now thats its june 09 my weight no matter how hard i try doesn't seem to go away i don't gain but i don't loose neither. I talk to some of my friends and they agree. Now i was told that its supposed to trick your body into believing your pregnant to make the periods go away but now im not sure but on the other hand i have sooo many pregnancy symptoms but i know im not... i got the wanna eat everything in site, bloating, peeing like crazy. yeast infections that spread up my stomach and when i get it to go away i get to enjoy sex and it comes right back. my friend took water pills and lost like 10 pounds, why would that happen and since a lot of personal issues are based on self image why do we have to deal? i just turned 23 yesterday and i have causal sex with my boyfriend, there are alternative methods that i wouldn't need the IUD.. Im so confused because i really like it but at the same time i have lower back pain, headaches, infections, acne, and sometimes a highly depressive state. now as for acne i took a womens vitamin and cleaned with a deep pore cleanser and that helped a lot. My Sex drive is throu the roof ! its like i cant get enough.. before its like it was a chore and now its i want it all the time. my weight don't change and i joined a gym so wheres my money going ya know. waking up with swollen fingers and hands knowing its all water weight makes me mad ... i don't wanna be subjected to water pills or an extreme diet. The insertion they told me to be on my period but i had just finished it... mine hurt like some cramping because my cervix is small. after i was fine, and my friend said it didn't hurt at all and she was on her period.. sometimes i can feel it during sex and so can my partner but i get some cramping and its over. sooo now im debating on what i want to do cause i would like to get my weight under control and actually feel motivated to do things which i don't anymore. I will make an apt with the doctor thou cause it seems it happens to a lot of people but is supposed to be normal or not caused by mirena ... huh whose not writing down the facts.

So glad I found this site. I've only been using NR for 4 days now (started Sunday), but by Monday, I already knew that something was "off". By last night, the only thing I could contribute all my symptoms to was NR, thus why I went in search of answers. Thank you everyone for their stories ... I would have never known.
So what had me looking? First and foremost, my ankles are the size of tree trunks! They are so swollen, that you can not even distinguish between the ankle bones and the tendon in the back. Just this morning I shot out of bed due to a cramp when I was stretching myself awake.
I weigh myself every day, and normally at 6'1" I am 135-138. By Monday morning, I was 150.6, Tuesday 150.4 and so last night, I consume some water pills and a laxative ... at 149.8 ...
I am so tired, it's not even funny .... Monday night, I fell asleep when putting my son to bed at 8PM. Yet Tuesday at work, I couldn't keep my eyes open. My lunch was spend sleeping in the car. I just canceled a "lunch meeting" for today (Wednesday) as I predict I need to do the same thing again today. I can't seem to keep my eyes open.
My pants are tight, I have a slight headache, and my skin (especially my hands) are excessively dry. Last night in the shower, I actually looked to see if I had anything noticeable going on down there because I was so itchy and irritated in the vaginal area.
My doctor thought this would be really great for me, as I seem to bleed constantly ... taking the pill or not ... so their trying to get me on something that will help regulate it. I was so excited when she said it will be more direct since it is "right there", and to be honest, I've only had a spot of blood in the 4 days I've used it ... but is it worth it .... NO.
Good luck to everyone else ... this one is just not for me!

I wrote yesterday afternoon about my experiences. When I tried to sleep last night the coughing started and I still felt anxious/panicky (which is unlike me) so much so that I left the light on for awhile. I took two Tylenol PM's or I would have never slept. I feel better today, but I'm still lethargic. I don't think I'll take any more of these. I'm going to stick with water pills and restrict my diet so that I'll lose weight quickly.

My 7 year old female Siberian Husky, Niceah is suffering with her second serious flare-up of IBD. She was taking 20 mgs. of prednisone every 12 hours for several days. We are now down to 12 mgs. daily and working towards 12mgs. every other day. She is lethargic and her body and belly have swollen frightfully to the point where it is difficult for her to lie down without grunting and sighing. She pants heavily. She drinks and eats constantly. Her nose is dry. Her tummy grumbles all day and night. I have been boiling chicken breast and mixing it with sweet potato and Enzymes & Probiotics. I am currently working with a holistic advisor concerning Niceah's diet once she has weened off the prednisone. The side effects of this drug are frightening and I am so worried that something more permanent and damaging will occur. Has anybody experienced this?? If so, I would appreciate any advise. I took Prednisone for about 6 weeks for Stevens-Johnson Syndrome brought on by an allergic reaction to Ciprofloxacin. My main complaint on taking it was extreme hunger--not for sweets or junk, but for real food. I was also very moody and I think I must have been really mean to my husband. At the time, I thought I was being reasonable, but looking back, I can see I wasn't. It kept me awake, as well. Without the Prednisone, I might have died, because the extreme, constant itching with the Stevens-Johnson would have driven me completely nuts. My main complaint is that almost two months after quitting taking the Prednisone, I continue to have a moon face, facial swelling, and holding water elsewhere to the extent that I can hardly tie my shoes or even breathe. I would have expected that to get better by now instead of worse.

I've been on Topamax for almost a year. I've had auras for years which were misdiagnosed as hypoglycemia episodes, then started having grand mals after detoxing from alcohol (I'm sober now), continued to have them in sobriety (I guess I messed up my brain from alcohol). I tried Tegretol but it made me groggy. Anyway, a few months into using Topamax I stopped sweating completely and got the numbness and tingling in my extremities, which drives me crazy. I also have trouble with urination, I've been put on water pills. I live in a desert climate and during the summer had bad problems with overheating, had to drink so much water that I had trouble with water retention and my electrolytes got messed up. I had no idea that it was the Topamax--the doctors put me through multiple blood tests, I discovered it might be the medicine by doing my own research online. I'm tapering off Topamax and trying the Low Glycemic Index Treatment to see if I can be off meds and not have auras because I don't want to be on seizure meds if I can help it. The withdrawal is pretty bad--anyone else have the problems with no sweating and wicked withdrawal?

Oh, My God! I was doing some research about some medicine I was prescribed by my doctor and was wondering what other people were saying about Yaz Birth Control Pill, and I must tell you I'm very surprised. I've been taking Yaz for exactly 2 years now, before it I've tried pretty much every kind that's on the market and had the most horrific side effects from them, not with Yaz though. I guess every person is different and what works for one doesn't mean it works for everyone else. However, I've been recommending it to everyone I know and people that have tried it - love it. I did experience some mild side effects, though, during my first few months. Before it, I had gained weight cause I stopped smoking a couple of months ago and the 1st month I took Yaz, I lost 15 pounds. I was amazed! I was told before I started it that it's like water pills and will not gain weight from it, my Dr. was right. I had no mood swings anymore, my period wasn't as long (my period come every 21 days and lasted for 8-9 days, with heavy bleeding and crucifying pain, especially the 1st days of my period) and I wasn't crying anymore from the terrible pain, I couldn't even feel like I had my period. The very down side for me was that I started developing brown spots all over my face and they started getting bigger and multiplied, but this pill gave me such comfort that I had to make the sacrifice and used a lot of foundation to cover it. Then all of the sudden my brown spots disappeared instantly on the six month of use and since then I've had no problems with Yaz, whatsoever. My skin is so clear, everyone that meets me compliment me on my complexion and many are so obviously jealous. Since Yaz, I pretty much have no mood swings or emotions whatsoever, I kind of feel like a man, I'm very calm, show no feelings, it takes a lot to get me off balance or to piss me off.
The 1st 3 months I started using it I had brown spotting, sometimes even seemed like bleeding and now I definitely feel like my libido has decreased, but knowing how I was before Yaz and having remembering the most terrible pain I felt when my period comes and no pain killer has ever worked on me, I must definitely say that the few side effects I've experienced are so definitely worth it. I'm not getting off Yaz anytime soon, I completely love it!
P.S. I'm 24 years old, started taking Yaz when I was 22, if you care to know my age. And before Yaz my Dr. has tried to put me on so many different birth control methods for many years, but none has survived me taking it for longer then 2 months until Yaz. I have a condition that can be treated by either birth control methods, sometimes by giving birth to a child or if neither don't work I had to have laser surgery every 2-3 years or even sooner. My doctor tried to put me on different birth controls over the years to full the hormones in my body, but from all I've tried I had such side effects. I was ovulating so much that it hurt to walk, I sometimes felt like I'd break my pelvic. I had constant infections from it and I guess because I live in Florida where the weather is so humid. I've tried changing my underwear every hour or even half hour in the summer to try to prevent getting yeast infection with still no luck. So, with Yaz I was reborn. I haven't had an infection since I started using it.
P.S.2 Oh, and whatever hair I have left unwaxed on my body is way less and no it didn't effect my scalp - I still have thick full hair on my head that grows fast. Plus my leg hair grows way slower then it used to and no I haven't change my hair removal products.
THANK YOU YAZ for making my life so much easier. I'll be forever grateful!

I'm glad I thought to check to see if Wellbutrin might be causing my hair loss. I had some natural thinning at my temples before and started using Rogaine for women with great success. Then after my mastectomy and breaking up with a guy I went on Wellbutrin. I am currently taking the 150mg three times a day. I am losing so much hair it's scaring me. It comes off my head all day long. Like others have said I also have a handful in the hour, another handful in my comb and then it just continues to jump ship all day long. I have lost at least half of my hair.

Shortness of breath, foggy headed, joint pain, weight gain, stiff neck, clicking sounds, loss or flexibility of joints, tired. Felt old! Went on Toprol-xl for maintenance only. Never had high b/p. Talked with a friend, then found this web sight. Guess I'm not alone. Guess it's not me! Changed doctor now, one that will listen. She urged me to go off it and monitor my b/p. Took about 2 weeks, been off for a total of 3 weeks now. Feel great. Most symptoms are gone. No more inhaler and feel better. Clear headed again. Blood pressure is now high though. Don't know if it's me or the drug. Don't know if drug has done any damage. Had an ekg done. Dr. said heart is working to hard now. Wants to do a complete stress test. My wife and I are worried if its the Toprol-xl wearing off, or not. Anyone else had an ekg done. Does Toprol-xl damage your heart? Need answers. Looking for feed back. I'm only 53. Never had health problems before. Thought I was just growing old!

Leg swelling, bad feeling of being flushed-hot-in head area-numbness of tongue or burning sensation of tongue and lethargic too. What is this?
Since taking Actos, I have gained weight and want to eat all the time.
I am diabetic and also on Lipitor, Metaformin, Starlix, and water pills.
Are any of these drugs interacting poorly for me? I was put on Actos because my sugar would not go down.

Hi Sherry!!
No, the weight gain didn't ease up at all..... And I feel your pain, too!! I've been controlling my weight now for about 2 months (I therefore even bought a new digital scale which also shows the body fat you have...) and the weight even went up another 2 pounds since starts October without eating cakes and chocolate or anything else like that.... But at the moment it seems to have stopped (it didn't move for about 2 weeks now!). And believe me: I HOPE SO!!!
I'm totally caring about healthy food with less calories and how much I eat. Excercising for me is still not really possible because of the some days still upcoming muscle weakness I had been suffering from since december 2004. And even if it is not as bad as it was, I'm not able to workout or go for a walk longer than about 10 minutes a day... I hope this will get better soon (well, it already has gotten better, a few months ago I wasn't able to walk even that 10 minutes!!)....
It's so depressing to look into the mirror, see how fat you have become and not be able to do anything against it... :(
Well, in that times I try myself to remember, that it still needs time and someday everything will be ok. That's the only thing that keeps me up a little...
The next tour with my band (February 2006) I've already canceled (the second band-tour within 13 years which I'm not able to join and everything just because of this wonder drug from hell....), because I don't think that until February I will be fit enough to handle that stress and I don't feel that I will look like the old "silke" until then... I can't go on stage at all in such a shape... I would be ashamed to dead...
It's all so sad, but I have to be thankful to be still alive after all that I went through the last year...
How are you doing Sherry?? Has anything helped, yet? How about the water pills??
Best wishes and god's bless to you out there!!
Silke

Update on Weight-loss....
I left a post a few days ago about my struggle w/losing weight. I was so frustrated about this and since nobody wrote anything on this matter, I went to see my Doctor. She said that after Prednisone some people develop Diabetes and a sign of this disease is retention of liquids in a cellular level. She prescribed me water pills and in fact I lost 2 lbs in 2 days, my belly and arms are noticeably deflating and I'm glad to now it was water retention...however, it remains to be seen if I have diabetes 'til next week when the results come back. Gosh, it seems that the struggle never ends! I was worried about weight and now I have to worry about something even worse, that may change my life for the rest of my days!! The irony is that I was one of the healthiest living things on this planet and look what this crap of medicine has done, is doing and will probably will do to me in the future!
God bless everyone,
Gypsi

@guest 13099:
I completely agree with sherry!!
Perhaps it might help you a little bit to read my post Nr. 12857 (page 4 or 5 on this site) where I had written my and my family doctor's theory about this extreme weight gain after getting off this horrible pill.
A few days ago I got even water in my feet (they looked like they were completely pumped up with water and even poured out of my shoes, I was so shocked!!!) which I never had before in my life!!!
Yesterday I found a website where the effects of diuretics were reported (Yasmin, or better the drospirenone in it is very similar to a diuretic named "spirolacton"!!! and so this pill diswaters your body the whole time while taking it!!!). It was very interesting to read, that if you get off such water pills your body may retain the more water than before taking the water pills. So it's pretty normal how some of us are "bloating up" I fear... :-(
I just hope (and my family doctor also thinks so!), that if I give my body enough time to recover, all this water and bloatedness will go away by itself when everything in my body is working normal again.
So there is hope for all of us but we need much more time and patience!!

MY HUSBAND WAS RETAINING ALOT OF WATER IN HIS LEGS AND VERY WEAK. THE DOCTOR HAD DONE A NUMBER OF TESTS ON HIM TO FIND OUT THAT HE HAS NEPHRITIS AND WAS LOSING 8,500 MG OF PROTEIN IN URINE A DAY (NORMAL IS 100-200 MG PER DAY), AND COLESTEROL WAS AT 400. HE WAS PUT ON PREDNIZONE AND ALSO HAD A KIDNEY BIOPSY. WE WERE MARRIED 1 WEEK PROIR TO HIM BEING PUT ON PREDNIZONE AND IT HAS BEEN PRETTY TOUGH TO DEAL WITH. HE WOULD COMPLAIN OF ALL THE SAME SYMPTONS, WEAKNESS, BACK PAIN, NAUSEA, BLACK OUTS, MAJOR WEIGHT GAIN, AND CRAMPS THAT WOULD KNOCK HIM ON THE GROUND. I NEVER REALIZED PREDNIZONE WAS SO BAD. I FEEL ALOT OF GUILT BECAUSE I WOULD SAY OH, IT CAN'T BE THAT BAD. I FEEL HORRIBLE NOW READING ALL OF THE OTHER COMPLAINTS. HE HAS ABOUT 1 MONTH TO GO WITH 60 MG OF PREDNIZONE A DAY AND WATER PILLS.

I was taking Lisinopril and had severe leg cramps. I took myself off the drug. The doctor encouraged me to continue, but to cut the dose in half. This I did. I began to have sore legs at night which I attributed to being on my feet too much. Recently I took myself off Lisinopril and my sore legs vanished.
