My 3rd child was born in November of 2008, because I'm very fertile (having 3 children in less than 3 years) and not sure if I'm completely done, but not wanting any more any time soon, I opted for Mirena. I didn't want to deal with Depo because of the constant stories of weight gain, so Mirena sounded great. I hate taking pills because I'm forgetful. Anyway January of 2009 at my 9 week check up I had the Mirena put in...within a month my periods were virtually non existent, some of it could be due to breast feeding, but I still pretty much have no periods. Last month however I went in to the ob/gyn to have him check some pains I'm having in my lower abdomen, an ultrasound confirmed cysts (i read the tech type this out) and then the doc lied and told me there weren't any. Before Mirena, I had gone down to 175 lbs within a month of having my son thanks to weight watchers, after Mirena weight watchers wasnt working. So I quit paying for it so I of course gained back 10 lbs. I'm still eating less than 1500 calories a day, I chase 3 kids around all day, eat decently, don't exercise a whole lot but still don't sit on my butt all day and weigh about 190 lbs. If I even consider eating a piece of pizza I gain weight. This is ridiculous. My doc said he'd remove it if I continue to have pains because that usually helps, well that just one of many reasons I'm calling as soon as Im done typing here. I'm tired, my face is worse than it was in high school, I wear my husbands clothes all day, my wedding ring won't come off, I snap at everyone for everything, I'm sad, and I'm fat too boot. I would love to get back down to pre-pregnancy before the third baby 172lbs, but no matter what I do it doesn't work. Hopefully after removing this thing I can lose that and then some. I'll actually want to work out and have sex again! Not to mention have the desire to play with my kids rather than chase after them and fuss at them for everything they do.

I have had my Mirena in for about 3 years, and I HATE it!!!! I'm getting it taken out this month. I have sever cramps when I'm supposed to be having my period, and then I have a milky brown discharge for my period. I'm 28 years old and I feel bad for my husband, because I have absolutely NO sex drive at all. I'm always moody, I get so angry I cry. When I met my husband 4 years ago, I was 35lbs lighter, now I have put on the 35lbs almost 40lbs back on. I have pimples that are like mountains and I can't get rid of them. I never want to do anything, but sleep. I sleep all the time, when I'm not a work. I don't have any children and I don't recommend having it put in when you haven't had children. It's a pain that I have never had before. My hands and feet have swelled, so much that I have to buy a size bigger in shoes, and my ring finger has an impression from my wedding ring now.

If you have the Mirena get rid of it!!! It's horrible. I have noticed that I shed a lot more, my hair comes out a lot. I have to just my lint roller on my car seat all the time. My back hurts all of the time, even when my husband has given me a massage, I have tired several medications for back pain and non of them have touched the pain that I'm in all the time.

I had the Mirena inserted almost 2 years ago. Over the past 6 months, I have had horrible joint pain and swelling in my ankles, knees and hands. I have not been able to wear a wedding ring in 4 months. I hurt so bad that I can't sleep and recently I have felt that my fingers, toes and palms of my hands are cramping. My calves get so swollen, they shine and no one knows why. I have had MRI's, X-rays, innumerable blood tests, nerve conductions and a bone scan. Other than the bone scan showing inflammation, EVERY test is normal.
Because of these increasingly debilitating symptoms, I started wondering if they were related to the Mirena. That is how I found this website.
I had the Mirena removed yesterday and I think I may see some decrease in swelling today. Even though I still hurt, I am not cramped.
I see that many people experience swollen joints, has any one had their fingers swell. My swelling never goes down, I have it 24/7. If so, can anyone share there experience after having the Mirena removed. Did your joint pain and swelling go away?

Today is a new beginning for me after finding this site about the harmful side effects of Lisinopril and all this time I thought I was going crazy. I was put on this drug in 2006 for elevated B/P of 130/90. I had just recently completed 20 years in the Marine Corps and was in the process of starting a new career so of course I was going through a very stressful time in my life which may have been the cause of the recent spike in b/p. I went to see the doc for a checkup and she put me on 10 mg of lisinopril. I first noticed the dizziness soon after taking this drug. I was working out with some Sailors since I got a job working for the Navy and we had a bet on who would finish first in a three mile run. I thought this would be easy for me since I used to run everyday as a Marine with run times of under six minutes a mile but this time it was different. I was the first one to the half way point but then my body began to shut down to the point I could barely run. Everyone passed me by and when I crossed the finish line I had to sit down cause I thought I was going to pass. Let me remind you that this was only a three mile run, I was used to running thirty to forty miles a week. It is 2009 now and I very rarely workout due to the pain I experience afterwards. I have the constant feeling of gagging and I thought it was allergies but I refused to start medication for that. I remember the times that I used to stand up at work and shake my arms out because of the numbness in my arms and hands. I always have the funny feeling with the left side of my chest not sure if my heart is just going to give out on me. My wife always notices how I'm always massaging my chest muscle. I tell her it must be arthritis to quell her suspicious. I too had to remove my wedding ring due to the smelliness in my hands something I never had to do even while serving my country overseas. Thank you all for your posts, you have turned the light on for me to all the aliments I have been feeling these past few years. I have been off lisinopril for three weeks now and I am already feeling like my life is coming back. Hopefully, I'll be able to run that marathon that I always dreamed about. Again, Thank you all!

OMG! I am so glad I came across this web site. The posts are amazing! I never would have connected all of my side effects with the Mirena. I thought only my bizarre bleeding was due to Mirena and now all my other problems make sense. First of all, I had the Mirena installed in June 2007. I thought it was awesome and even recommended it to my friends (just like the other person--SORRY!) Anyway, for about the last 4 months I don't bleed red, only brown. Yes, only brown! At first I didn't really care but now it is to the point that whenever I have sex (which like the others I don't really want) I bleed brown. Right now it has been 3 weeks of brown bleeding! So, by the time this stops, I will get my period. So, my husband and I are averaging sex about 1 times a month. I also have the rash under my wedding ring, which I never would have associated with Mirena, but a previous post did. I have been getting dizzy and lightheaded lately and figured it was either my sugar or BP, but both of those are fine. I also have the worst hip pain ever--hip pain?? What, am I 90 years old! I sure feel like it. I am always tired- I even take naps with my kids! My mother, who is 60 runs circles around me. She helps me so much that I can't even use the excuse that I am tired because of running a household. At least I am not depressed, however, I do go through some pretty tough mood swings. I also have a weird smell coming off of me, not a bad smell, just weird. It is coming out of my skin. I have swollen ankles and my fingernails look like crap. I used to grow such long beautiful nails and now they break and split. I don't want to blame everything on Mirena. I am sure that the way I eat and lack of exercise have a lot to do with it. I am overweight and until now I have blamed my symptoms on my extra 50 pounds. However, the bleeding I am sure, is due to Mirena and that is reason enough for me to have it removed. I am going to call my doctor today and have it removed..I am done with it. I will post back in a few months and let you know if there have been any changes. Thank you everyone for letting me know that I am not crazy!

I had my mirena placed after my 2nd son was born and have had irritability on my ring finger-like an eczema almost- where the platinum irritates the area so much that I cannot wear my wedding band.
Has anyone else experienced anything like this?

I have had all of the creepy crawlies and I have had severe dizziness and
my face looks like the face of a pig and my throat looks like I have a severe thyroid problem. My feet swell, hands swell and I put my wedding ring on and I could not get it off but my husband who has stood by me the whole way told me to use soap and I got my ring off but I am afraid to put it back on. I will be off Prednisone-Steroids Friday will be two weeks. I wish I had never took them but I have a severe Diarrhea problem since before Thanksgiving of last year and my Dr. used Steroids and I am on 5-600 mg. pills of Sulfasalazine and he says-Dr. I may never be able to get off this drug. I am just now getting a regular bowel movement. I have nausea, headache, stomach pains, depression and I am going to stay off of them even though I have these withdrawals.

Six years ago used Vivelle and gained 15 lbs. Went off and lost the weight. Have had severe night sweats, so I tried .05 mg Vivelle. Within 24 hours I could hardly get my wedding ring off and my abdomen was severely bloated. Took off the patch. It's not worth it.

I had my mirena inserted May 30, 2007. Since my insertion, I have experienced the same scaring acne that others have complained. As soon as one painful pimple goes away, the next one pops up. The other side effect that I have experience is the water retention or weight gain. My hands are so swollen that I can only wear my wedding ring a few days out of the week. It feels like arthritis. I have not had any heavy bleeding, but my period is only a day or two with a pantyliner. So no real complaints there. I asked my GYN about the water retention and was told to eat mushrooms and cucumbers as they are natural diarretics. You can only eat so many mushrooms/cuc. I am not at the point that I need to have it removed. If I gain any more weight, I will give it more thought. It is unnerving to pay hundreds of dollars for something that would have to be removed prematurely.

I had my last of 3 Lupron injections in March of 2003. I am still having mild symptoms that I think are the result of the medication. Initially the Lupron wasn't really a big deal. I had blurry vision/dizzyness for about 2 weeks during the 1st month, but I didn't have hot flashes until the 2nd injection and thought it was going to be a breeze to get through. We all read such terrifying things when researching Lupron and I did the same.

After my Myomectomy which was in July of 2003, I began having much more dramatic symptoms. I eventually lost all sensation in my hands, had swelling in them and couldn't really pick things up or type at my job nor wear my wedding ring. I had traveling parasthesia throughout my body, in my arms, legs and feet, but the worst was my hands. The parasthesia lasted until about December of 2003. I still occasionally have the same sensation in my arms or legs but my hands have finally returned to normal.

I've had 2 MRIs in hopes of ruling out MS (parasthesia is a very common side-effect of MS) but am stilling working with a neurologist based on the symptoms I've had. Doctors aren't convinced of the strength of Lupron. I still think that the Lupron caused these symptoms but there is no way to prove it.

Anyway, my advice to current and possible Lupron users is to, as strange as it seems, stay positive. It is hell during and unfortunately can stick around for quite a long time, but I am finally starting to get rid of the symptoms I've experienced, and I have tried to keep a positive mental picture throughout. I really thought I might never be able to use my hands again, it was very scary, but things are very gradually getting better.
It took me about 6 months to have a regular cycle again, and I now believe that our hormones are powerful! I think it just takes a while for everything to return to normal.
Good luck!
