Hello everyone. I am a 40 year old female and have been on Toprol XL 50 mg. for about 6 years now. In the beginning I was taking Toprol, then because my prescription plan wanted to switch I am on Metoprolol. I was prescribed this after a stress test because my heart rate did not go down as quickly as the cardiologist wanted it. If only I knew what I did now, I would never have started it. HELLO!! I weighed 200 lbs. at the time and was a couch potato. What did he expect? Of course my heart rate wasn't going to go down being so out of shape. I am so angry that I was prescribed this drug for such a stupid reason. I am also on meds to lower my blood sugar and high blood pressure. I know that all of my problems are due to my weight and so I've made a decision to seriously change my diet so I can get off of all of this crap. I currently weigh 217 lbs. But as you all know, being on Toprol, it's so hard to lose weight. I want off of this crap as soon as possible. Can any one of you guys who has gotten themselves off of this medication please send me some information as to how you got off of Toprol XL? My doctor is a real moron who works solely for pharmaceutical companies so I refuse to go to him. I will be changing doctors soon.

problems, joint pain and pain in my neck amd the doctors say it can't be from the Levaquin, Well how come I was healthy until I took it

It has now been almost 3 days since my Mirena was removed, a very liberating feeling!! No bleeding to speak of until now. I went to gym (ran, cycled, weights etc) to return home to find the bleeding has started, only light thank goodness. I also have some mild cramping pain in the region of my uterus. Could be it was too soon after having the Mirena removed to go to gym. Apart from the light bleeding and mild cramps, can't really say I can notice any difference yet. STILL NO REGRETS THOUGH.
I had the Mirena for 2 1/2 years so guess I can't expect my body to go back to normal straight away.
I am on contraception pills (until my husband is scheduled for his vasectomy). Unsure if I should be on any contraception so soon after reading another message.
Please let me know what you think??

Posted June 11, 2009 that Testosterone tested at 174 in April and 207 in June(6 weeks off Lisinopril). My last test results July 21 have my Testosterone up to 237. That's 3 months off Lisinopril and a 63 point increase. I still have all of the symptoms listed in the original post but they seem to be slowly fading away. I weighed in at 216 lbs this last visit. The only real change is that I have not taken Lisinopril since mid-April. Going to try to lose 15 lbs and lift weights to increase Testosterone. (63 POINTS in 3 months)
(ORIGINAL POST)
(42 year old male 6 ft 217 lbs) Testosterone dropped like a stone to 174 in April. To give you an idea how low that is normal range is 280-870. Symptoms include severe short term memory loss, confusion, panic attacks, many times unable to complete a sentence without losing track and of course E.D. Got off this in mid April and started a diuretic instead.(started lisinopril June 05) Bloodwork in early June shows testerone up to 207. Hmm, up 33 points after being off this medication for 6 weeks. Maybe I'm an anomaly when it comes to men using this medication. Any man considering this med would be advised to test testosterone before starting and 1 year later to see if there is any correlation.

I had Mirena put in shortly after terminating an accidental pregnancy. I was told this would be my best option. I have always been a size 6, 135 pounds healthy active person. Shortly after Mirena was put in I began to gain weight so I stepped up my cardio and tightened up my diet, this helped me to stabilize my gaining. Then about a year after Mirena was inserted I could not stop the gradual but steady weight gain. It has now been nearly 4 years since Mirena was inserted I weigh 165 pounds and am busting out of a size 12, I don't consider 30 pounds insignificant weight gain!!!, I am bloated around the middle and look 4 months pregnant. I have tried EVERYTHING to lose weight. 13 hours of cardio (including trail running) a week, weights and 1000-1200 cal diets. I could not lose a single pound, in fact If I didn't do all of the dieting & working out I would gain more weight. I did not make the connection with Mirena until recently because my severe troubles didn't start until a year into it, but that is exactly when I stopped getting my period!!! I have been to doctors to get blood tests for my thyroid, I have had antidepressants shoved at me and been told" Well you know, you ARE getting older...." I don't have insurance so had to pay each of these incompetent & uninformed doctors out of pocket, not one of them even asked if I had an IUD in. I cannot even describe the torture I have been through these last 4 years, I felt so ashamed of my body that I stopped socializing with friends & family, I couldn't stand the sight of my body so never wanted to have sex with my boyfriend, this has put a HUGE strain on our relationship. Plus my sex drive has been zero. I have had heavy discharge 24/7 and an unpleasant odor, hair loss, migraines, mood swings and painful intercourse. As soon as I made the connection (& thanks to this site) I had Mirena removed. I immediately swelled even more and bled for 11 days (awful:dark & clotted, horrid smell) BUT my stomach then went down and I have already lost 3 pounds and its been about 13 days, my appetite has diminished and I feel better!

I'm 39 yrs old and I had the Mirena inserted in Sept.of 09. Since I've had this put in, I have a period every 2 weeks and it last for 2 weeks if not longer!!!!! Very annoying....... It seems like I'm always bleeding or discharging and I can't stand it anymore. I've also experienced hair loss, I have always had thick hair and now my hair is getting thin and it hasn't been growing. I'm also experiencing insomnia, my sleep has progressively declined since this was inserted. Now I'm on my second medication to try and get some sleep. I'm tired all the time, extremely moody. I get pissed off all the time over nothing. It is affecting my relationship with a man I'm totally in love with and if something doesn't change I'll end up losing him. Before the Mirena things were great and now they're getting worse and worse. I don't do things with my friends anymore cuz I'm tired all the time and moody and my boyfriend gets the grunt of it all. He has a 5 yr old and I have no patience with her and I've always been really good with kids and I never had such a lack of patience before the Mirena was put in. Needless to say I have an appointment on July 7th to get it out. Oh and did I mention the 15lbs I've gained since I've had it put in. I've never been overweight or had weight issues in my life. Since this has been put in, it seems like I keep gaining weight and it doesn't seem to stop. I go to the gym and do weights and I do a lot of cardio and nothing seems to stop the weight gain. I'm praying that after this evil thing is taken out, I can get back to being my happy self and treat the people around me the way they deserve to be treated. I know some people haven't had any problems with the Mirena, but for me its been a living hell!! No birth control is worth all these side effects. I'm thankful I found this site because I didn't know what the hell was wrong with me until I started reading all the things that other women have experienced that are similar to what I've been going through!

I have had Asthma since I was a child. I am a 39yrs, male. My Asthma is seasonal; I only get Asthma around April and almost all of May. My Symptoms are; in the evening I am unable to breathe proper once I go to bed. I went to my doctor and he prescribed, Advair. At first, I taught wow, this is really good until I started having so many other problems. I cannot sleep once I take the spray during the night, due to sever Allergy, my throat itches so badly and my body aches, also my head scratches really bad. When I wake up in the morning, I am so tired and don’t feel like I want to go to work. If I take it in the day time, its worst, I feel a quick relief from the breathing but the side effect out weights the cure. I also feel really nervous and almost loose my voice. I think I will speak to my doctor on this as I am so not into taking it any longer.
Here are my Symptoms; Itchy Throat for weeks; Nervousness and lost of voice; Pain in my muscles; Fever; I don’t want to talk to anyone.
Note: I just recently started tracking these symptoms as I have been using this for the past 3 yrs or so and would constantly get the feelings above, but did not know what was causing this until I started making notes of these symptoms.

She has confidence, issues and friendship problems, this of course may be related to her weight. My 2 other daughters have normal weights.

I was put on Lipitor 10mg 2 weeks ago after my bloodwork from my yearly physical came back that my cholesterol went up again. Levels are HDL 61 LDL 176. After the first week I called my MD to advise that I was having chest pain and muscle pain in my legs and forearm. He said to cut the dose in half which I did last Thursday. Yesterday all of a sudden I had heart flutters the entire day! I am a 43 female who goes to the gym 3 times a week doing 30 minutes of cardio and weights. I eat right and overall I am in great shape except having high cholesterol. My blood pressure is great, had a stress test and echo last year both negative for any problems. I called my doctor today and advise that I was still having fluttering in my chest and that I am stopping the Lipitor. What good is being on a medicine that helps with one problem but then causes others that you may need more medication for???
I have been feeling like crap ever since being put on Lipitor and I believe that it is the medication that is giving me the problems. Last year my MD put me on Zocor and I stopped that after having the muscle pains. I am now hoping that things will get back to normal and I plan on telling my doctor that these "statin' medicines are not for me and there has to be something else.

I have been on Lisinopril for over a year now and have taken it off and on during that time. I never really put a finger on the way I felt until reading this message board. I wake up in the morning and it feels like I have never slept. I walk around work and home feeling like I have 400LB weights hanging off the bottom of my feet and I cannot concentrate. I think the worst part is the fact that I would rather be lying down with my eyes closed then experiencing life with my new found love. I am worried also because my new found love was also just diagnosed with high blood pressure and prescribed Lisinopril. I have recently noticed that her zest for life seems to be diminished also. I am taking 40MG of lisinopril and was never even put on a lower dosage to start with. As of this writing I plan to do a little self doctoring and taking myself off of the medication to see what kind of reaction I get. Best of luck to all of you who are having issues with this medication.

I have been on 10 MG of Lipitor for almost 3 years. Since I began taking it I have had recurring issues with an anxious feelings, my lower GI is constantly churning and I feel like I am stressed out. I have a low stress job, a stable happy family life and yet I feel nervous all the time. I sleep for 3-4 hours and then wake up and am unable to get back to sleep. I have been forced to take a nap ever day after lunch just to get through the day. Additionally, I developed tremors in my hands and was diagnosed with something called Benign Essential Tremor and put on another medication to control the shaking.
Yesterday I decided I had enough of this and went to see my cardiologist to discuss the symptoms. I stopped taking the Lipitor on my own 2 days before. The doctor told me that none of my symptoms were related to Lipitor! I replied that I was convinced that they were all in fact caused by this drug. He suggested I stop taking the statin for 2 weeks and see if the symptoms stop. I am now on day 4 without lipitor and am already feeling less anxious.
I went to the Nuerologist 2 weeks ago and got her to discontinue the anti-tremor medication. I am going to get all this crap out of my system and hopefully get my life back.

I had my Mirena put in August 2006. I got it because I had heavy menstrual cycles. It took about a year before my cycle slowed and then it was still a pretty good cycle. The past few months all I've done is spot. As far as side affects, my blood pressure has gone up and I am now running back and forth to the doctors for rechecks on my blood pressure. I told my husband I thought it was the Mirena. I have also experienced headaches and a lot of anxiety. As far as weight gain, I've gained weight. I workout, lift weights and watch what I eat. I'm beginning to believe the Mirena affects that, too. I am going to have it removed next week. Hopefully my blood pressure returns to normal.

My experience with hair lose while on wellbutrin was the opposite, as soon as i started Wellbutrin (Zyban here in UK) my hair stopped falling off!!! I took it only for 3 weeks though so i don't know what would happened if i continued. There was something else that made me quit it- insomnia, i slept 3 hours a day and my face looked like dead mans walking. But i could function normally and had a lot of energy in the gym could do twice as much as i normally do and also heavier weights.Unfortunately had to quit it, i did it could turkey. But what's interesting were the withdrawal symptoms, i felt great! My mind was still and focused,i could see the big picture of things, little things didn't bother me at all, i felt whole. But it lasted only for a day or two and then started to weaken. Anybody with similar experiences?

I thought it was just me getting older, (44) my mood swings are so out of control I would divorce me...my breast are large to begin with, I feel like im carrying 20lb weights on each one. Leg cramps, nausea, not sleeping, hot flashes. After reading this im done... I'll deal with the ovarian cyst my way...Time for a new doctor to. Good luck girls

I've been taking Omeprazole 40mg's once daily for two weeks now. I'm 28 years old and up until September have never been sick a day in my life. After an endoscopy, was diagnosed with a "hiatal hernia" after months of a mysterious vomiting syndrome and put on this drug by my Gastroenterologist.
The first week and a half was great, it was able to control my vomiting. But now, after thirteen days of taking the drug, I've been feeling incredibly fatigued over my whole body, like the way you feel the day after you lift weights. Stabbing pains in my ribs, chest and abdomen that come and go. The feeling in my stomach of being "eaten" from the inside out. It's horrible.
Like others, I've also been getting quick, stabbing headaches that come and go in a flash. Joint pain. Muscle cramps. Bloating. Depression. Waking multiple times in the middle of the night. Strange and vivid dreams. Severe nausea in the morning when I wake up. It's all really, really weird. And as of last night, my vomiting has relapsed. Keep in mind, I've NEVER experienced ANYTHING like these symptoms before in my life.
I've got a follow-up appointment scheduled with my doctor in three days and I intend to get off of this stuff immediately.

49 years old. I took diovan 80mg for about 2 years. Never thought to associate dry eyes and throat, low back and muscle aches, and weight gain to this drug. I lost 10# by doing 1 hour of fast walking and 30 minutes of weights 3x week and my b/p went to 110/70, so I stopped the drug to see what would happen. In 2 days my head was aching and my b/p was 170/102!! Beware of rebound, which Novartis does not list in its warning section. Back on the diovan to prevent a stroke, but I will talk to my doctor about a low dose beta blocker, and will keep exercising and eating light, with the goal to get off all meds with a healthy lifestyle. Does anyone else ever feel fullness in the throat? that is another weird symptom I get sometimes.

I've been on Topamax for a year and a half now. I started with 50 mg. and am now up to 100 mg. I did have the usual side effects of the tingly fingers, feet and arms the first six weeks and then that went away. Food and soft drinks tasted funny for a while, but that too went back to normal. I did lose 15 pounds and I didn't really have it to lose in the first place, so I upped my workouts with weights to compensate. My migraines have gone from five a week to one, so it's helped me BIG time being on this medication. My eyesight, however, has suffered. I used to have 20/20 vision. I now need reading glasses. I'm sure it's because of this medication, but to be honest, I'll take the glasses over being in that severe pain five times a week.

I have been on lipitor about 4 yrs. I am a runner and keep tract of my times. I have been losing about 4% of my speed each year and have recently had a large amount of muscle fatigue. Today a ran a 940 pace and thought I was not going to make it home. Three years ago my average pace was 805. Could the 20mg dosage be causing this problem?

I think it is interesting the symptoms that you mention here. I have been on birth control pills since the age of 19. I am now 28. Over the past year I have had similar symptoms. I have been on so many different BCP's that is is hard to keep count. They don't seem to work the way they claim to. The last BCP I was on was orthotryciclen. While taking these I began to experience severe heart palpitations. So bad that they would wake me up at night. Because I wasn't sure if it was an anxiety attack or just being in my head I decided to ignore it. Four months passed by and it seemed to get increasingly worse. I had enough and decided to go to my PCP. She wasn't really much help either. Although I was tested for Mitral Valve Prolapse, which I was told affects younger women my age. There was nothing found. What I thought was interesting is I really felt that it was the birth control pills, but I couldn't find it as a side affect on the information that was provided in the box. The tech who was doing my echocardiogram began to tell me she also experienced the same feelings and found out it was her BCP. Once she confirmed what I thought was right, decided to stop taking them. After three months the symptoms began to disappear. I figured it was just the particular brand. I began to take loestrin 24. I started to feel the same symptoms again, just not as severe. I would feel my heart beat when I would like down in my back and my stomach. My heart rate would reach 90 to 100 sometimes. I know this is not normal. When I visited my gyno yesterday she told me it was impossible that it was a result of the BCP. Maybe it was just anxiety and or perhaps I should get checked out by a cardiologist. That is serious stuff when you are talking to a young person about getting there heart check out. I think if there are any other women out there who are experiencing any similar symptoms should speak up. So these doctors won't keep telling us it is all in our heads and help to take care of this problem.

wow! lamictal. im taking it for bipolar and it sounded so great due to the fact that it concentrates on the "lows" more than the "highs" and since i've been battling depression and suicidal thoughts since the 4th grade i thought this would be a wonderful addition to my medication. i would keep the seroquel at night and only take during the day "as needed" i was told there weren't very many side effects, just following starter kit exactly and i wont get that terrible rash. i didn't have access to a computer until a few days later after my first dose. so i didn't really get a chance to do much research. the first night i was surprised i felt a little loopy. didn't thank much of it. BUT several day late i felt i had the mind of a child. my speech slowed, my motor skills were off i felt heavy in body but light in the head. i could produce simple words. i knew the meanings of the words just had know actual word for them and would have to try to explain these words. stupid me started a new medication just before having to study for an exam( i was not expecting such a quick start of side effects) wow! i had no short term memory. could barely function. it was hard to even order a cup of coffee. of course there were other side effects such as pounding headaches and muscle soreness but they were nearly as annoying as the mental side effects. i started out at a low dose of just 25 mg. i had to stop taking it so my head would clear up and i could actually function just to take my exam. im not cleared up all the way yet but i do feel better. im sure my psych teacher will understand. ....but something im curious about is a weight limit issue. it really seems the side effects shouldn't have started so quickly and so intensely. i haven't been able to find anything about weigh a certain amount to take certain dosages. does any one know about this? should lower weights start even slower? im am a few pound below 100 and im thinking that might be why it hit so hard. considering its the weekend im not going to talk to my pdoc until maybe after my exam about stopping than restarting, but i do plan on restarting and giving it more time for the side effects to clear up

About 1 1/2 years ago my allergist recommended I switch BPM from Lisinopril to Atacand because of congestion problems associated with Lisinopril. I made the switch and had no problems with Atacand other than my co-pay was considerably higher. Because of this I asked my family practice MD to switch me back to Lisinopril because I remembered it worked okay. However this time - a couple of days after the first dose of Lisinopril I developed flu-like symptoms (aching, congestion, fatigue). I thought I was coming down with the flu AGAIN. After about three days I started having chest pain, a headache that wouldn't go away, blurred vision, dizziness, shortness of breath, very shaky, weakness, couldn't sleep. I thought I was on the verge of a heart attack at times. The fatigue and weakness worsened. I often felt that I couldn't get off the couch or out of bed. My legs felt like weights. It wasn't until I checked out the side effects on this website and read the comments of other users of the drug that I realized what was most likely happening. Needless to say, I called my doctor and asked to be switched back to Atacand. I'm more than willing to pay the extra $'s to feel better.

I started using Zyrtec recently after my niece received it from her doctor as the solution to her allergies. (We bought it at the drug store). My allergies are skin related where i walk and feel a deep itch in my thighs and anywhere else i have tight clothing. Also when i work out - i have itch deep skin. This is under the surface and very uncomfortable especially when you are walking/working out. Leads to confusion etc. I had never used any allergy medicine before but decided just to see if i would feel any different.
Anyhow, I started using Zyrtec the other day and almost immediately, I started fighting with my boyfriend - everything i was angry with him about came out. It was helpful but also i was very mean in my approach. I also started getting back pains around the spine area - not in the spine but around it and could not sleep until i took an ibuprofen. Today i experienced left shoulder and back pain. That was it for me and whats funny is that i took the lowest possible doze. So i am not touching that medicine again. I am a 36 year old woman. Its a strong medicine and something is strange with it (changes moods etc). I will have to change the medication for my niece before she goes through the side effects.

After I had a heart attack 3 years ago I had stents inserted I was put on Atenol, butemide, lisinopril, amoplodine, spirolactate and metroformin for my diabetes. Since taking these tablets I have suffered from some horrible side effects my weight has increased I cannot stand for long I get so out of breath I can only walk about 8 steps before I feel like I am going to colapse and my breathing gets really bad. I also suffer now from Lymphodema which is caused by excess water being made by the tablets lisinopril and the amoplodine my legs from the knees down to my toes are so swollen even though I take water tablets my legs feel like leads weights I have now become virtually house bound because I can hardly walk to get out of my house II get so out of breath now. I also cough up a lot of mucus all night which is clear and frofey my GP asked if I had ever suffered from asthma I said I have never had asthma in my life before, christmas I felt so bad my husband called a local GP in and he said that I had fluid on my lungs and an Xray revealed that I had fluid around my heart also I am convinced that these tablets were the cause of this I have to sleep sitting up I can't lay down now. I saw my GP and told her that I had read about the side effects of these drugs on the internet and I was sure these were causing my condition I asked if I could come off lisinopril, amoplodine and spirolactate and since I have come off these tablets although all my symptons have not completely disappeared yet I do feel a lot better this was five weeks ago that I stopped taking them. I asked my GP if there were any other tablets that I could take that were more suitable. I have suffered pain in my back in the kidney area as well and my potassium levels were very high. I have had diabetes for 52 years and my old GP told me that I would not live to see 40 years, the way that I was feeling I thought my god my times up.

A grateful thank you to Adele and Oldcarpetcleaner-
I am so sorry that you having such problems- but it is reassuring to know that I am alone-
I am going to the U of Miami Liver Institute next week- and I will ask about CO-Q10; I have had a muscle biopsy-and I will make every effort not to have a liver biopsy-
I will try to find out what the time frame is for muscular pains- weakness-
even AFTER discontinuing Lipitor.
The bizarre thing -for me- is that the pain and weakness travel- not always in the same spot- but almost always reamin in my buttocks. The reason I ignored it for a couple of monthes as I was so actively doing squats aand weights- and thought it was the exercise. This drug seems to have had bad consequences for so many otherwise- previously healthy people.I will repost after I attend the liver Institute- -by the way- finding a true Liver Hepatologist- (NOT a gastroenterologist- they have liver and I have to travel to Miami . Good luck everybody.

i am an active 63 year old man who had DVT about 6 weeks ago. i run about 10 miles a week and speed walk another 5 miles. also do weights once or twice a week. since starting Warfarin I have gained 8 pounds. my only solution will be to cut down on the extra calories. if it causes weight gain then rather than whining you have to deal with it
