just an update to my June 15 comments regarding my husband and his side effects with Toprol XL..as of his last doc visit his blood pressure was perfect as its been since weaning off of 100 mg. all depression has lifted and he now sleeps like a baby at night and is wide awake during the day, and no more weird dreams..the tremors have stopped completely and his confusion is gone and his memory loss is only slight..The doc wouldn't lower it from the 25mg that it is now..he is concerned that it will have an adverse effect to take it to 12 1/2..so for now we will stay with it..being aware that the risidual effect is most likely the 25mg. in the meantime he is going for an appt with a neurologist just to make sure other things aren't going on..but I believe its all the Toprol. the change in him from the 100mg a day to now is amazing.

I started Toprol Xl 50mg daily about 2 1/2 months ago. I experienced trouble sleeping and vivid dreams right off the bat. I saw my doctor last week and he suggested I take it at night instead of the morning, but that seems to make the insomnia worse. I find myself waking up a lot during the night, sometimes I feel wide awake. Also, last night, I woke up and both legs were itching intensely, as was my chest. I have no idea what that was. Has anyone else experienced similar? I don't know what to do.

Friend who is 70 developed cough whichi kept him awake at night. He switched off Topril (generic Metoprolol).
I was taking Coreg...inferred with sleep first week or two...took 1 hour then 2 hours to fall asleep for 5 hours. Then wide awake.
After three weeks, did not get to sleep..stayed up all night, wide awake. Went 7 days with maybe 10 hours total sleep. Doc switched me to Topril 25mg. Problem continues - after 4 days, still wide awake all night. No desire to nap during day..wide awake but very tired and exhaused.
It may the be 'class' of drugs that are similar. The Coreg sleep problem worsened with time. The Topril continued it when I switched. Doc has taken me of Topril now.

I started taking generic Zocor 5 days ago and I too feel like I've been hit by a truck. My neck is so stiff and I seem wide awake at night and have trouble sleeping. After doing some research I thought perhaps I had adrenal fatigue because I had most of those symptoms. I'm going to quit the Zocor cold turkey today and see if I start feeling better because it's difficult getting up and going to work. My muscles are aching and when I get up I seem to be stiff all over, even felt some weird chest pain this morning and lightheadedness. If this is how I have to feel on cholesterol lowing medication then I'll just keep my high cholesterol (258).

I was prescribed Guaifen PSE 600-120 for a sinus infection. I took the first tablet at bedtime Friday night. I normally nod off in 2-3 minutes but here I was, 1.5 hours later and I was still wide awake. At 11:30 pm, in an attempt to put this perplexing energy to a productive use, I went downstairs to my office to get a little work done. At 5:30 am I finally got a little sleepy. I then slept for 1.5 hours and couldn't sleep any more. I showered and took another tablet, dreading how tired I was certain I'd be that day and looking forward to a nap. It wasn't long and I felt re-invigorated, like I'd just had the best sleep of my life. I went all day and into the evening, when again I took another tablet at bedtime. Repeat of night #1. Apparently I'm a little slow on the uptake, but I decided that I should investigate this drug for possible side effects. Aha! I experienced the bizarre! dreams when I did doze off, and an emotional plunge (that I never have) too. The upside is that I realized an overnight improvement in my sinus condition, thank goodness that the misery wasn't for naught. Oh, anoher positive side effect is weight loss due to a lack of appetite...LOL All in all, there's got to be a better way to get sinus relief and I'm calling my physician first thing Monday morning.

I have recently (one and half weeks ago now) had an epidural spinal injection to help alleviate severe lower disc and leg pain. I was not told what steroid was used but have recently learnt that it was probably Kenalog.
The pain has almost totally alleviated which is great and long may it continue but I have had some very strange side effects. I seem to have a permanently salty taste in my mouth and I cannot easily tolerate caffeine or alcohol in any small quantity (one glass of wine). I have also been feeling very tired due a constantly heavy menstrual period that has now lasted eleven days which is very unusual for me as I am pre-menopausal and they usually last around 3 to five days max. I have also had a couple of dizzy spells and feel quite nauseous sometimes during the day. I have not been able to sleep very well at night (insommnia) - my sleep patterns seem to be all out. I get tired during the day and am wide awake until four or five a.m. in the morning. I also had several hot flushes just after the injection (far more than usual and of longer duration) but these do seem to have alleviated now. I have lost some weight and have little appetite although I do try and eat as I am not overweight at all and need to keep to a normal weight.
All in all, even though the pain has gone, I seem to have acquired different problems which I was unprepared for and not informed about from my consultant or hospital staff. They just said I would feel tired from the sedative for a few days I had at the time when the injection was administered.
Does anyone have any idea how long the menstrual problom will last???

Was prescribed 750 mg pills of Levaquin for bronchial infection (am also asthmatic). After first pill, had very intense headache - I took 2 Advil Migraine pills and couldn't get any relief. Had quickly and dramatic shifts of temperature being hot and cold, was dizzy, disoriented, confused, couldn't see clearly, eyes hurt. The strangest side effect is that I felt like I needed sugar. If I drank some fruit juice or ate something sweet, I felt a little better. Sleeping overall was impossible - I was wide awake and exhausted - only feel asleep for short intervals of time totally about 2-3 hours a night. I generally felt absolutely miserable on this medication and quite frankly, it wasn't making my bronchitis any better. I gave up on it finally after 4 days and called my doctor. I was then prescribed 400 mg Avelox which I am taking now. I can tell you that after just one pill of Avelox, I feel better than I did yesterday and I do not have any horrible side effects.

I have been diagnosed as a homozygous Factor V Leiden mutation and will have to be on warfarin for the rest of my life. I feel really dragged out and tired and need a couple hours of sleep midday. Sometimes though I wake up at 4 am and am wide awake. It is not dependent on my nap. In general, since going on warfarin I feel generally weak and tired. I sunburn more easily and it takes longer to heal. They do not say these are side effects but it sure seems odd that it has happened since warfarin 8 months ago.

I started taking Levaquin on Friday evening at 8:00 p.m. because I had a urinerary infection. I attempted to go to bed on Friday night at around 11:00 p.m. and I started to twist and turn and become very restless. It was as if I had coffee before I went to bed and, of course, I did not. It was now 4:00 a.m. and I was still wide awake. The next day I took the pill at 2:00 p.m. hoping by taking it earlier in the day I wouldn't have a problem sleeping. Thank goodness I had no problem sleeping that night. I slept straight through the night. The 3rd day I took the pill at 8:00 p.m. again and again I had insomnia. Did you ever hear of someone having insomnia from Levaquin? Please advise.
Thank you.

I seem to have hit the jackpot of side effect as I first had a rash on my torso, then terrible headache and earache, digestive upset and diarrhea. Had difficulty sleeping and was wide awake and full of anxiety. After 6 days I called the Dr. after reading about possible side effects online. I stopped taking the RX and started to feel better in only one day with rash gone and all effects as well altho' still a problem of some diarrhea.

I TOOK MY FIRST DOSE OF 750MG LEVAQUIN LAST NIGHT AFTER STAYING UP LATE WATCHING A MOVIE..ABOUT 2:50AM. I WOKE UP, TOTALLY ALERT, AFTER ONLY 2 HOURS OF SLEEP. THERE WAS NO GOING BACK TO SLEEP. I WAS ALSO HAVING WHAT FELT LIKE A HOT FLASH BUT COOLED DOWN OK AFTER TURNING ON THE FAN.
TONIGHT, I TOOK MY SECOND DOSE AROUND 1 AM AND WOKE UP EXACTLY 2 HOURS LATER. AGAIN, WIDE AWAKE... BUT THIS TIME I AM HOT, BUT ALSO FEEL LIKE I AM HAVING AN ANIETY ATTACK OR SOMETHING...I FEEL LIKE MY HEART IS FLUTTERING IN MY THROAT. ANYWAY, IT SCARED ME ENOUGH TO GET ON MY COMPUTER AND GOOGLE/DOGPILE THE DRUG NAME... AND I WAS CERTAINLY SURPRISED TO SEE A SIMILAR RESPONSE. I ALSO TOOK SOME VITAMINS AND MINERALS AT BEDTIME AS WELL. I WILL NOT CONTINUE THIS DRUG AND HOPE I FEEL NORMAL SOON.

I cannot believe that it took me so long to figure out. My 3 yo daughter has been on singulair for the last 6 months and the behavior changes have been terrible. She never wants to goto sleep, wakes up in the middle of the night, fights me for everything, throwing temper tantrums, demanding, screaming, wide awake at the crack of dawn. I took her off singulair last week and now all of a sudden she goes right to bed and I find myself waking her up in the morning. I am amazed at the behavioral changes. Being a first time mom I never thought it was the meds, I thought it was just normal behavior. I only noticed it after I took her off of them. I thought wow, I have a completely different child, and thank God I took her off it. I will never put her back on it and I suggust that you reconsider giving your child Singulair.

I began taking prednisone a week ago for a severe case of poison ivy. prior to taking it, i did a little research and heard all of the horror stories, so i was very anxious. the doctor prescribed 20 mg three times a day to start, with a taper-off beginning three days later. my wife, who is a nurse, was shocked at the high dose, consulted with a friend who is a nurse practitioner and we all agreed to cut the dosage by 60%. I began to take the drug, and relief was almost immediate. My hand was so swollen with the ivy, i couldn't make a fist. in 24 hours, the swelling had gone down, in a few days, the itching was gone and the ivy was drying up. In addition, i have had zero negative side effects. Contrary to what I have read, I actually have a decrease in appetite and a bit of weight loss. I have more energy and feel wide awake until about midnight every night. It takes a bit longer than usual to fall asleep, but I feel great upon waking up in the morning. All in all, I have had a very positive experience with prednisone, and that is a lot for me to say, as I despise pharmaceutical companies, and take no prescription drugs at all (well, except for an occasional prescription decongestant when allergies flare up.) But I shudder to think of what would have happened if I had started on the massive dose the doctor originally prescribed.

I cannot believe just how bad the moral decline in the world is. I know this may sound crazy to some but let me tell you it is not. The drug companies are absolutely criminal. It seems long-term studies are a thing of the past. Long-term studies were conducted to protect the consumer. If a drug proved dangerous in it's side effects, the drugs would either be not marketed or used under strict advisement and strict monitoring. Today, medicine is all about the money. I am a retired nurse. The many and varied crimes I have witnessed in my career would scare any sensible person into doing everything to maintain health without physicians, hospitals and medications. To find a good doctor who cares, who used his/her gift of discernment is nothing more than a hunt for something very, very rare. I am an allergy sufferer and was prescribed Singulair. I have been taking it for six weeks and for five of these weeks I have had laryngitis. Never have I had it before. I have been depressed. I feel like I am socially inept, I have had feelings of self-loathing, I am dizzy, clumsy, extremely forgetful, I feel like I am in a dream and that is just too weird a feeling when one is wide awake. I am sleeping long and hard, when I am on my way to bed I am afraid I will fall down because I am unnaturally tired. I am tired throughout the day. I have leg cramps. I am experiencing headaches. I sometimes have an unsteady gait upon walking. I experience pains in my abdomen. I am short of breath. I have had cardiac-like pains to my chest two to five times daily. I am touchy and angry all too easy. After reading the complaints listed on this website, I wonder if caring will ever, ever come back to the professions of medicine? This is a sad, sad state of affairs. Civilization needs to be recivilized and humanity needs to become humane. The wars aren't only in Iraq and Africa, we have wars everywhere....in our school systems, and in our health care systems....look and see who wins....it's always those who have the most to begin with.

Been on this medication about 3 months, but take it only at bedtime. I have Periodic Limb Movement and take Mirapex to stop the jerking at night, but have breakthrough movements. This medication was given to help me sleep thru those movements because taking more Mirapex was not a good option. Recent sleep study showed marked improvement. Also take low dose of Neurontin for neck pain. I read that some have tortured nights. That was me before the medication. Before diagnosed with the Periodic Limb Movement, if I took certain cold medicines or caffeine at night, my brain felt like a war zone, I was fitful and agitated, writhing mercilessly in the bed, stuck somewhere between awake and asleep. When taking Sinemet this happened if I wasn't real careful. Now I sleep pretty good for about 5 hours - almost a miracle. If you are a restless sleeper (not a wide awake insomniac) check for underlying sleep disorder before giving up on a pain med that is working for your pain.

I am almost finished with a 10 day course of Lecaquin. Since the first day I have experienced nausea, a bitter taste in my mouth, insomnia, and some agitation and anxiety. This morning, after my 7th dose yesterday evening, I found myself wide awake at 4:45 with my arms and legs aching as if I had the flu. The doctors at my Family Physician won't see the problems as side effects, they attribute them to my already present hypothyroidism. Never, ever again will I or anyone in my family take this drug, unless there are absolutely no other options.

I have a 4 year old step son, that has been on Singulair since he was 18 months old. Before his mother and I had gotten married she had noticed that his moods were not the same, his sleeping habits had changed, to where he would be wide awake and wired to passing out like a drunk would. He would make comments like he was stupid, he was worthless, he was dumb. He would tell you he loved you one minute and the next he would say that he hated you and everyone else in the room. He would hit himself everywhere on his body (including hitting himself and other men in the family jewels) and hittiing women in the same area. From the time that he started taking Singulair he weighed around 28.12 pounds on 4-4-03 and shot to 32.01 pounds 24 days later on 4-28-03, and with in almost a year he shot to 50 pounds at 37 inches tall on 1-30-04. By 2-16-05 at the age of 4 he weight 70 pounds at 41 and 1/4 inches tall. He would bruise very easy, and from him playing in the yard and trying to play sports like he would see on tv he would come back in looking like someone had taking his plastic baseball bat and beat every inch of color out of him. At many times when his mother would take him back to the Doctor, which the doctor himself had never seen my step son and a nurse practitioner who saw him every time and my wife would tell them that he was acting out and the effects that were coming out in him, and the she would raise hell with my wife because she would take my step son off the meds that she would perscribe him. I have gotten a copy of my step son med records from this Doctor's office and have found out that they did make a note in his charts that my wife told them about the effects and they never tried to take him off the Singulair or even looked into the meds. And the Doctor would sign off on everything that his office would send out to my wife in the mail. (Which tells me one that he was not reading the charts that was put in front of him or that he wanted the KICK BACKS that Merck pay Doctors who prescribe Merck Products more then he cares about what these meds are doing to Children and Adults) My step son had an appointment with this Doctor on 6-15-2005 which by this time my wife and I had decided that this Doctor Office had done enough damage to her son that we would never take him back there again, and they can not understand why we will not bring him back there. I started doing a lot of research on this med and have found out that Singulair had killed 2 children under the age of 5. Snice then I have called Merck and asked them if they knew what their product was doing to children and adults. And they acted like my step son was the only one that was suffering from these side effects and that they did not care. I have talked to a lawyer and the lawyer himself stated that my step son would have to die before there could be a lawsuit put against Merck. It seems like we are fighting a losing battle. I have contacted the FDA, and made a report about this med and have sent them the info on what I have found and other posting that I have found on the internet and a copy of my step son med charts. I am starting as of 6-30-2005 to collect names and info of others who have had the same effects that Singulair has done to them or their children, so we can put a stop to what these Doctors are doing to our children and to us. I plan on taking all the info that I collect to the FDA and to another Lawyer that has told me that if I can get enough Names of people that have a copy of their med charts and the charts of their children and can prove that these effects did happen then he would be more then happy to file papers in Court against Merck, and even the FDA if the FDA did not pull Singulair after I have sent all the info that I get before coming to him. Even if the FDA calls for a recall of this very dangerous med, then we would still file papers against Merck and the FDA for not pulling this sooner. Thank You for reading this and please if you can help so we can get this off the market please contact me.

after taking 175 synthroid for 6 months - my thyroid was so out of whack i could sleep and was a complete mess. my doctor has the staff from heck and i by the time i got to see him i was a complete wreck.
anyway - he put me on 25 of cytomel along with reducing the sythroid to 150.
i have to tell you i slept better right away. BUT! i was a wide eyed nut job for the next 3 days! and unfortunatly i had a disability hearing that monday!
i am so upset, because my main complaint was that i was soooo tired. (i have terrible short term memory problems, and cognitive diffuculties) but since my last two weeks were filled with sleepless nights and tired days all i could think of was the need to stay in bed!
back to cytomel. that was Feb 14. its now april 20th. there are days when my hands shake. but i cant be sure what its from. i have many other problems. (not that this shrink beleived me) heck i was wide awake!
but all in all i feeling better now. just have to get my doctor to verify that cytomel caused my spurt of energy. ugh.
oh well nothing is easy.

I took the liquid Levall 5.0 at night because it made me tired and a little lightheaded. The Levall pills, however, did not make me tired. In fact, they did the opposite and kept me wide awake after only getting 5 hours of sleep. Both did a good job in keeping away the cough.

LACK OF SLEEP. I was in bed but wide awake and aware of everything going on around me. After taking the medicine for about three days, I felt depressed, anti-social, and extremely lonely. I felt meaningless and my boyfriend even asked me what was wrong with me. I did not focus well on anything including my school work. I felt extremely aggitated and rude to strangers. I feel extremely ditzy and unaware of what is going on if in a social atmosphere. I remember taking this medicine as a kid and complaing to my parents that I didn't like the way I feel. I still dislike this medicine and will ask my doctor to prescribe anything but z-pak next time I am ill.
