I have gained nearly 40lbs in almost 2 years since I got my Mirena. Nothing about my life style has changed. I have tried everything to lose the weight and can't drop a pound. I never know when i will get a period and never know for how long. I am extremely depressed and need some advice. My gyno says that there is no way my weight gain is from the mirena and all my blood work has been normal. HELP!

I am weaning off Zoloft. I began taking it in Nov. 2001 because I knew I would have post-partum depression since I had it with my first two. Zoloft changed my life so much for the better. That was almost 6 years ago. The past year I have decided that I can do w/o Zoloft. One, because I’ve learned how to choose to be happy. Two, because I don’t like being addicted to a pill. I know I’m addicted (or somewhat addicted to) because if I forgot to take the pill, several hours later, I would get weird feelings, like when I turn my head and move my eyes at the same time, a weird slightly dizzy feeling.
Here’s how I did it. In May and June, I took a whole pill (50 mg) every other day and every other day I took half a pill. That’s 2 months of that. Then, July and August, I took a half a pill EVERY day. Now that it’s Sept., I’m taking a half a pill every other day and NO pill every other day. I must say, this has been the hardest. It’s just 4 days into Sept. and I’m having those weird sensations a lot. My toes and fingers are tingly, too. I was planning on doing this for 2 months but I'm on the 4th day (2nd day of no pill) and I'm having too many tingles and weird dizzy sensations. So, I guess I'll continue taking a half pill every day and take NO pill ONE day a week for this month of Sept. Then, in October, I will take NO pill TWO days a week (but not 2 days in a row). Then, in November, I'll go to THREE days a week of no pill (but not 3 days in a row). And so on. I had hoped to be off by Christmas or Jan. 2008, but I see that it won't work unless I wean to a NO pill gradually. I knew all along that it would have to be gradual, and that's what I've been doing, but I had no idea that just missing a mere 25 mg. for 2 days (but not in a row, mind you) would make such a difference.
Now, if I get too many really sad days, I will consider going back on. But I’ve done really well so far. I know that God is helping me. He can lick it; I can’t. I have had just a handful of occasions where I was told something slightly disturbing or something happened to me that was slightly upsetting and it got me down, but only for the rest of that day. AND, I gave it to God and let Him deal with it. He wants to take care of my problems; He doesn’t want me worrying about it. I know that medicine like Zoloft may be the answer and if that is what I ultimately do, then I’ll just continue leave it to Him. I hope this helps someone.

hi dejay78.
i felt so sad for you when reading your post because it took me back to when i felt like that. There is hope. You will get better. Please log onto the website called lowdosenaltrexone.com. This medication is not an anti-depressant but it helps to raise your levels of endorphins. It sounds like you are seriously deficient in them. I also had this problem and have been taking ldn for 4 months. It was the best decision i ever made. You will need to see if your doctor is aware of it as some are not.
Just keep posting here whenever you feel so bad as i know how much it helps to hear from somebody who has been in the same place.
I wish you the best of luck. Please let us know how you are getting on.

Hi to everybody.
replying to lilahk, i also had a fast heartbeat while on yasmin. I had one episode that really frightened me. My heart just started to race and would not slow down. I had an ecg done that afternoon and it just showed a very rapid heartbeat and pulse.
I did have a follow up appointment in which the doctors described it as a tachycardia. I stopped taking yasmin shortly after that and never experienced it again.
I can only describe it as feeling a butterfly in my chest. This went on for about 24 hours and then went back to normal.
I cant imagine what it must be like to have it ongoing. At least you are off yasmin now. As you will see from all the other ladies here it takes a while for your body to get back to normal after yasmin.
I really do believe that a good multivitamin helps a lot because i feel that for myself, yasmin depleted a lot of vitamins and minerals in my body. I was on yasmin for 4 years.
Please go to your doctor and tell them what is happening to you. Sometimes reasurrance is a great healer. It is terrifying when something is happening to you and no medical person will help or believe you. Maybe you are lucky enough to have a good doctor. I hope so.
Insist on answers. I had to.
Most of all try not to get too anxious about things. I know that when i was feeling bad i worried and then i felt worse. You will start to feel ok again soon. It just takes a little while for yasmin to leave your body.
Keep us posted on how you are getting on and i wish you the best of luck.

Hi Katyh,
I was on yasmin for over 4 years and suffered all the symptoms you listed. I also had the same response from my doctor. Although my previous doctor refused to prescribe yasmin for me because she was not comfortable with it. I wish i had listened to her. I am off it now for about 8 months and am feeling much better. It takes some time but you will be glad you stopped taking yasmin. I decided not to take any hormonal contraceptives ever again as i feel my body has been through enough. If you believe you will get rid of these bad side-effects then you will. Just try to look after yourself for the next few months and gradually you will be ok again. Surely soon the medical profession will have to sit up and take notice of all the things that are happening to women while on this pill. Not to mention the withdrawal side-effects. I wish you the best of luck and good health.

hi everyone, it seems like every month i am here asking another question! does anyone get severe back pain in the week (s) leading up to their period? i have been off yasmin for 6 months now and my period should be arriving sometime in the next week (maybe!) i say maybe as my periods have gone from 28 days to the last one at 38 days so i have no idea if or when my next one will arrive. The back pain is quite painful,if i move suddenly or just climbing the stairs it is agony.it seems to be focused on the left of my spine in the small of my back..i am just so reluctant to go to my doctor now as i am sure she thinks i am a hypochondriact (sorry for the spelling) it seems that the pain come during the later half of my cycle.when i said my back hurt the other day my husband said "your period must be due soon then" so even he has noticed a pattern. just wondered if any of you ladies had the same thing?
silke,
well done you! i am so glad for you that yasmin has not totally wiped out the things you love doing, you are an inspiration to us all,i know you have kept me going on many of my darker days.everytime you tell a bit more of your story it really hits home with me,i can associate with vurtually everything you say,you inspired me to want to help the women that come to this site so i share my experiences and what i have read and learnt, i hope that i can help people the way that you helped me. i really wish you the best silke. good luck with your band,if you ever come to england let me know where you are singing!

dear lisa, its chrissy sorry iv taken a while to respond...
i just read ur posting about the hair loss and yes ive heard that it is a very common post yasmin side effect. i didnt experience it myself but i do get the depression the week that my period is finishing. its gotten better since i first stopped yasmin but its still noticeable.
have you been feeling any better apart from those symptoms?? just remember that ur nearly 3 months off yasmin and the first two months are the hardest.
im six months off it now and i feel so much better. you will get back to normal soon i promise... you just gotta hang in there...
you can take some natural vitamins to increase hair growth and it will only be the hair on ur head not anywhere else...
there is one i heard about i think its called Biotin??? something like that anyway and you can get it from like health food shops .....
it may help im not sure of any others though.
try to stay positive and i wish you the best results in whatever you decide to do.
lots of hugs to you
luv chrissy xoxox

I am 64 years old and I have been taking Depakote for app-
roximately 10 years. For many years I was diagonosed with
Bipolar. Through the years I have been on many anti-depress
ants. Some would work and some wouldn't. I got so sick and
tired of all the medications, I just wanted to throw them out
in the yard. However... for the past three to four years, I
have just been totally depressed. Going to different Dr.'s
trying this and that. Still depressed. So, this past week I
went to a new Dr. and guess what... he took me completely
off of Depakote. I was only taking 1,000 mgs. a day. In the
past I have taken as much as 2,100 mgs a day. Once I got
toxic, didn't even know my own name. Couldn't even call
anyone for help because my memory was in such bad shape.
Weight gain, memory loss, leg aches, swollen feet and legs,
and it messed up my thyroid. Felt drugged every morning,
tired all the time, didn't want to go anywhere, just wanted to
sleep all the time and let everything go. It's a horrible feeling
to have. You don't have a life. There has been many times
in my past, that I had just soon been dead. But.......I would
be a fool to do something so stupid! I have two wonderful
sons and four lovely grandchildren. Those of you that are on
Depakote, I wish you the best of luck. And remember...
you are suppose to have blood work done every three months
so that the Dr. can know your Depakote level.

In response to guest #12706 - I too had a MRI for the same thing after taking Lupron. They didn't find anything and the symptoms went away after I went off of it. Although I'm not a doctor, my guess is that it's Lupron that's giving you the very common side effects you mentioned. The only thing I might bring up to your doctor is that you have more weakness/tingling on the right side. Although it's rare and I certainly don't want to cause you any additional stress, Lupron has been known to cause blood clots and on rare occasion mini-strokes. I wish you the best of luck and great health! Don't let your doctor off the hook - make sure he/she knows what you are going through.

prednison is an evil drug but even that i have most of the side effects i still needed... i cant function without it. if i try to stop even reducing the dose order by the doc all the problems start. headaches, dizzines, swelling on arms, legs, ankles, shoulders and knees. i have been on prednasone since april 19,2005. i think im addicted to it, thanks god for this site i know now that im not alone and all of you have the same problems i have. now i hope all of u can cope with these med.
these side effects are not easy to deal with it but if the med is working hang in there. i try to quit just like that when i was on 60mg but believe me is not a good choice. god bless all of you and i wish you the best, by the way i dont know if the side effects are from the pred or the other 10 med i have to take daily, plaquenil, pred, methotraxate, folic acid, hydrocordone, prevacid, percoset, sulivanc, albuterol, etc... i dont wish my desease to no one... asthma, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus....be patience and good luck.

To-ASICKELS I know there are some who say that LEVAQUIN helped them and they had little or no side effects. As for me I truly believe had I went ahead and managed to continued taking it I don't really know what would have happened. I do feel that I may have escaped death by stopping when I did. Suggestion-Ask your Dr. to read the complaints on this web site. Surely a caring doctor would do at least that much. I will tell you this-I have been trying to get real answers from the FDA, the maker of levaquin, and from the hospital where I went to the emergency room. As of now no luck what so ever. I intend to keep hammering at them. I have talked to people who tell me that if I get any results that they will be surprised. I wish you the best of luck on this matter. May God bless.-Ed

Time will tell. If you were like me and are experiencing all theses horrific side effects, then you would think differently.
I am happy for you that the medicine works as intended.
There are many of us for whom that is not the case.
We just want the medical community to acknowledege this fact before others who are effected and are not diagnosed correctly.
I wish you the best!

I have been off of toprol for over a month now. I had some withdrawal effects, pains in my chest, ringing in my ears, headaches, few other minor ones but I am glad to be off the medicine. I am not having the pains in my chest now, they were like angina and I had never had them before I started the meds. I no longer have that foggy head feeling and my memory seems much better. I also am not as fatigued now. I also had gotten very depressed but not sure if it was from toprol or from another med. But now I seem to be out of that funk. Good luck everyone!!!
