I starting Yasmin when my daughter was a few months old, my doctor told me it would be good for me to take since I have PCOS. I started having anxiety, leg cramps, and shortness of breath to a point that I wound up at the doctor and ER a lot, not knowing what was wrong with me. However I did lose like 100lbs on it getting down to 130lbs. Since I quit I have gained 25lbs back, however I don't feel like I'm gonna DIE! This pill is the wonder pill!!!!

@ guest3468:

If you have read all the posts here, you should know, that mostly all women here have experienced these problems you've mentioned! And in many cases this was only the beginning of an endless story.

At 3 months ON Yasmin I didn't have any problems either! I thought this was a real wonder pill without any side effects. Well, 2 years later I should have known better, when the first problems hit me every month a bit more. My biggest fault: I went on taking Yasmin another 3 long years without noticing, what that pill already had done to me until I completely broke down in December 2004 after 5 years on Yasmin....

So please, if you have the slightest suspicion, that this pill is not good for you or you feel that you're somehow "changing" in mind and your feelings: Get off it asap!!

The little benefits this pill may have are not worth the nightmare it CAN cause in many women!!

hi charity,
murph70 is quite right when she says that out bodies change after we have children. i was on dianette on and off for about 10 years and never had a problem with it, then i had my daughter (my youngest...now 3 ) i breast fead her for a year exclusively so did not have a period for the whole year, when my periods came back they were quite heavy and i also had outbreaks of acne when my period was due. my doctor put me on the new wonder pill yasmin! well he was right about it being a wonder pill,i started taking it and "wondered" what the hell had happened to me,within 6 months i was an agoraphobic nervous suicidal wreck,i had no sex drive at all and actually thought about telling my husband to go out and find another woman because i never wanted to have sex again! i felt constantly tired,i had tingles, aches, pains, blurred vision, constant thirst, raging headaches...the list goes on. my doctor diagnosed me with an anxiety disorder and gave me diazepam (which made me worse) when i asked if it could be my bcp he said no he didn't think so...but i know so because i found this site, found hundreds of wonderful women all with the same problems all taking this same pill, i stopped taking it 7 months ago now and while i am not back to my old self quite yet i am well on the way. Most of my symptoms have gone now so i think that is proof in itself. As murph70 says only you know how you feel, maybe you could try alternative methods of birth control for a while and see if you feel better? whatever you decide to do i wish you all the best.

Hi,

I've been on Yasmin for about 4 years now, and only now am I realising that my post-period headaches, morning nausea, anxiety, mood swings, brown spots on chin, daily cramps in my feet etc could be due to Yasmin, which was given to me as the wonder pill. I am at the end of my cycle now, and due to take Yasmin tomorrow, but I really don't want to. To top this up I am getting married in 5 weeks time and really don't think this is the best time to come off the pill as it may cause emotional side effects. Has anyone got any suggestions for me, can anyone recommend a safer, less destroying pill?

Thanks,
M.

Hello Everyone! I am so happy that I found this site. I was considering getting off yasmin, for about 2 months, but my fiance begged me not to. I used to have a very high metabolism. I was actually struggling to maintain my weight, but now, after gaining about 25 pounds over the course of 2 years, I decided that it could be related to Yasmin. I was happy with my new curves, but sadly, they just keep growing. I have also been prone to depression, which I link to my wonder pill. I have been off for about 2 weeks and have never felt better. I've read that many of you are having problems with your heart beats, and honestly, it scares me to death. I've experience leg cramps, which subsided after about 1 1/2 years on the pill, weight gain, increased acne, and rapid mood swings, which doubled during the week leading to my period. I also used to get pains during that week, after sexual intercourse, that is when I was in the mood, which was never. As long as I didn't climax, I would have no pain, but who wants to have sex when you are huddled over in pain, on the toilet, and throwing up. It felt like I was in labor. I hated having sex. Every time I enjoyed it, I was punished, by my own body. I told my OB/GYN about this and he said that he had never heard of that reaction during intercourse. He said that I could be allergic to my fiance's sperm. What is that? It must have been my sperm, because he had no issues climaxing. I thought that there was something mentally wrong with me, but I guess not, right? And, as an addition to my problems, as if there was not enough, I went to my Gynecologist about a year after I started takin Yasmin, and I was surprised to to find that I had, within 1 year of a healthy pap, been diagnosed with cervical displasia, which was only 1 stage away from full blown cervical cancer, yeah for me! I have never had any issues with my paps. I have a 5 year old daughter and was on a low dose hormone pill, until I stopped nursing. I had break through bledding, so they recommended Yasim, because, as I understaood, it was the Fort Knox, of all BC's. Funny, Right? 2 weeks post yasmin, I felt an increase in my libido, and I fell less puffy, if you know what I mean. I know that I am probably missing something, but these are the most detrimental issues. If anyone has had an issue with pain and nausea related to climaxing, please let me know, and please, everyone reading this, stay away from Yasmin. I have a friend that just starting taking it, and I plan on having her read all of the posts on this site, so keep them coming.
Thanks,
Lizzibug

I feel compelled to post a message here regarding the side-effects of Yasmin in hopes of preventing someone, even if its a complete stranger, from struggling with the effects of this pill in the same way that I have for the past year.

I'm 29. I started taking Yasmin a year ago to regulate mid-cycle bleeding and I had also just begun a long-term relationship so it seem appropriate to get back on the pill. I had been on BCPs in my early twenties and didn't have a problem with them, but really preferred being hormone-free. My doctor recommended Yasmin. She said it was the "Wonder Pill".

It was the start of a very crazy year in my personal life--death in the family, moves, relationship & health problems, etc. I started seeing a therapist right around the time I started the Yasmin and didn't notice a correlation. After all, life had been pretty cookoo so it seemed fitting that I felt cookoo, too.

After months and months of being extremely irrational, over-reactive, and anxious I decided that I needed a 'clean slate' as nothing seemed to be helping-no amount of therapy or self-talk/self-work was putting a dent in the amount of bad feelings that were swirling around inside myself. I felt very at odds with everyone--my boss, my family, my lover, my coworkers, and my friends. I was generally over-whelmed & completely off-center.

I called my doctor THREE times over the year and told her that something just wasn't right...that I felt "off" and wondered if it could be an effect of the pill. She assured me that Yasmin is the best pill on market, etc. etc. and that no other patients had experienced the effects I described.

Finally, at wit's end, I decided to try the 'clean slate' approach and eliminate any possible stimuli so I could attempt to get a handle on my inability to manage my emotions. I decided to stop taking the pill. My relationship had gone to hell anyways, so it was sort of an act of defiance.

What do you know? I calmed down & was right back to my old self--the one the my friends and family missed and the one that I missed so bad it hurt! I have never felt so refreshed. All the bad things that were/are going on in my personal life still exist, but I am not INSANE from the scary, bad hormone anymore.

I agree with the posts that state enourage you to find a doctor that checks your blood levels before choosing a BCP. Its really important to find a pill that works for you.

I have a lot of regret about my inability to see just how off-centered this pill made me. I made a mess of my life flopping around like a fish out of water for a year. So, the best I can do is encourage anyone who stumbles along this long post to please keep yourself informed..and listen to your body when choosing a hormone.

Yasmin is one of the worst things that has happened to my body. It might not be that way for you, but don't let any doctor tell you that this pill (as with all BCPs) is free of possible major emotional side-effects.

Thanks for reading.
