I just be on Yas for almost a month ( i will finish my first package in 2 days)
For the first couple of weeks, i do not feel anything different on me, but after my one week non-hormonal pills (white sugar pills) and start again with the hormone pills in the green section, I started to feel very EMOTIONAL and mood swings.. It seems like i could snap at anyone at anytime, very sensitive and very irritable. GOSH.. However, I do not have any other side effects, in fact, Yas has done a very good job in reducing my pms and clearing up my skin.

I am very happy that I found this forum because the extreme indigestion, cravings, and bloated feeling that I have experienced from Yas has been crazy. I have only been on this birth control pill for 1 week, but I have already begun to experience the side affects. I was on Ortho - Tri for 10 years but decided to switch when I developed fibroids. My doctor felt that it may help them remain stable. I am not sure that it is worth it. I am not taking any additional pills and will be calling my doctor first thing Monday morning.
Thanks to all for posting your stories.

I took Yasmin for about two years, and never felt great on it. The first year, I was about 45 pounds heavier than the second, and the second, I started developing terrible side effects (depression, weepiness, paranoia, mood swings, general lethargy, extreme fatigue). I had the worst abdominal bloating (remember, all diuretics have a rebound effect) and most annoying, my nails started shredding and about 1/4 of my (lucky it was thick to begin with) hair fell out! Turns out Yasmin can affect the follicular cycle. THEN, my doctor pushed Yaz on me, though I expressly did not want to take it knowing it was simply a lower dose of Yasmin. She made me stick with it for four long, horrible months--it ruined my life!! It make me cry at the drop of a hat, practically suicidal, extremely moody, gave me TERRIBLE PMS like I hadn't had since I was 17 (I'm 33) and nausea, dizziness, and a spaced-out feeling. I became paranoid about all my friends, and have been jumping on my dear boyfriend for everything and overreacting to the slightest thing. From other stuff I have read, Yaz only works for people with terrible PMS already, or who have acne--I had neither. Whatever chemical is in this pill should be taken off the market--I am furious I was subjected to this, and horrified and so sorry to hear of the losses of loved ones above. Yas is terrible! I just finally switched to Loestrin, and am crossing my fingers. Yaz also gave me terrible bloating, gas and digestive problems.

I was on Yasmin for 2 years and it was 2 years too long! I should have stopped taking it immediately. I experienced EXTREME HAIR LOSS!!!! It started to fall out as soon as I started taking the pill, but I was also coming off Depo Provera and thought it was the Depo causing the hair loss. This happened in 2 different cycles. The first time, A LOT of hair fell out and I was humiliated. After about 6 months, some hair grew back; but my hair was still extremely thin and you could see most if not all of my scalp in strong lighting (outdoors for example). About 8 months later, it fell out again...this time worse than ever because I had about half of the hair I used to. I think I was literally lost 3/4 of my hair this time. Most if the hair loss was on the top of my scalp and every doctor I saw had something different to say. In the beginning stages of the hair loss, they said it was stress. Then when they saw it progress and they realized how much hair I had lost on the top of my scalp, I was told I had female pattern baldness...only no female in my family had ever experienced this before. Finally, I went off the pill and WOW...I HAVE HAIR AGAIN and it is probably close to what I had before I ever lost any of it. Oddly enough, Yasmin is used to prevent hair loss; as it is prescribed for women who have higher testosterone levels...yet it caused me to lose mine. I also gained A LOT of weight on that pill!
I have been off of Yas for about 6 months now and my periods are definitely less than regular. I won't get my period for 3 months and all of a sudden I am getting it every 2 weeks. I also have cysts on my ovaries and I thought I had Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome which can also cause hair loss, but the doctors are quite positive that I don't have PCOS and that it is not what led to the hair loss.
Moral of the story...unless you have to go on a pill that is designed for lowering your testosterone levels (and I recommend Diane 35 if so), do not take Yas! If I ever go on the pill again, I am sticking to something like Alese that is low-dose.

I CANT STAND YASMIN!!!!
I've just completed one month of pills and I'm losing my mind!
After Just one week of being on this pill, I noticed I was completely irritable, and on edge with everything.
As well my breasts were so sore and by the time I was done my first pack I'd gone up a come size, as well I feel like i've gained a tonne of weight, I just feel bloated everyday.
I only started Yasmin becuase My previous birth control slowly took away my period. I was on Lo-Estrine and after about 5 months my period was smaller and smaller until gone, so my doc put me on Yas, and now i have an awful period.
never had such uncomfort in my life, bloating and mild cramping, which sucks as i've never had a cramp! I HATE THIS PILL!!!
I would never recommend it!

I'm so glad I found this site. I, too, thought I was going crazy! The first two months were ok on Yaz. Lost some water weight and my periods were light and short. As the months went on things got worse. Depression, anxiety heart palpitations that sent me to the Urgent Care Center, extreme fatigue, irritability, irrational mood swings, absolutely NO sex drive, neck and back pain and an increase in my acne. This has been 3 months and I can't stand it any more. It just amazes me that doctors still don't even consider that extra hormones in our bodies would not cause some of the horrible side affects we are experiencing. Good Luck to all.

I just started taking Yasmin about a month and a half ago.. I switched to Yasmin because I had just gotten off Ortho Tri-Lo (which was completely AWFUL.) I've had a few negatives about Yas so far -- I didn't start my period until a WEEK after I was suppose to, and when I did it was just spotting for a couple of days. Not that I am complaining that it only lasted two days (love that part), but it didn't start when it was suppose to. I am starting to feel like I have no energy and I am tired all the time -- I haven't wanted to even so much as wash clothes the past couple of weeks. I also have noticed uncomfortable cramping (no where near my period). Its very frustrating because I want to be on the pill and I hate switching so much, but I just want to feel normal!

I have been on Yas for about 4 years i was originally put on it for acne which cleared up slightly i still have it not as bad but recently i am that moody i feel depressed again ( had it 5 years ago post natal), real lack of libido to the point where my partner thinks I'm not attracted to him anymore, headaches, monthly aching legs, hungry i lost a heap of weight then recently started to gain it again, IBS, I also get my period the week before it says i should my doctor said it would fix up but it hasn't and it's not as if I've just started taking it. Also it is one of the most expensive pills so I'm a bit undecided whether to stick to it or to change.I don't know if any of this is related to Yas but after reading what is on this site I'm starting to wonder!!

I was prescribed NuvaRing about three months ago. It's funny, I had a bad feeling about it as soon as I saw it. I liked the idea of just worrying about it once a month though. I tried the ring right before my wedding - bad idea. I could feel the ring during intercourse and it tore me a couple of times. But since my libido no longer exist that really isn't a problem any more. So here I am a newly wed and I don't want my husband to touch me, I have constant mood swings, I'm irritable all day, I have zero energy and I've had a headache for about a month now. I actually left work early today because of my headache. (and I can no longer go the gym)
Finally I had enough and Monday I went to the GYN and said get me off this ring. She said that these side effect do occur in some women. I asked to be put on the Yaz pill. I haven't started it yet, but I'm hoping that my life will go back to normal (before NuvaRing) and that my husband and I can start acting like newly weds. Luckily he hasn't threatened to divorce me after the three months of hell I put him through.

I started Yas about 4 months ago for excessive bleeding, cramping, pms symptoms and homonal imbalance. My Gyn said it would help with all these things. On my first couple months on the pill I thought it improved my mood swings, and my bleeding drastically decreased and I had almost no cramping. I did have a couple migraines and some nausea in the beginning. I have had a real problem with weight gain, cravings and bloating. I increased my exercise but can not seem to loose the weight I gained when I started Yas. I am 40 and this was never a problem for me before. For about the last six weeks, I have had depression and extreme irritability. I've also had brown spotting in between periods. I'm going to stop taking the Yas.

I'm a new Yas user, and I must say I'm terribly dissapointed with it. I have broken out HORRIBLY(i used to be on Ortho-Tri for 5yrs no break outs). I got acne badly when i was 13-14 years old, and it calmed down until about 17(when i started ortho). I'm now 24 and have the worst acne I've ever had in my life.
I've only taken this for 3 weeks, every day, but I've gained almost 10lbs, i've had fatigue, contstant spotting and cramping, and the acne. The rest of my 3 months supply is being tossed in the trash.

ANOTHER UPDATE:
Hi again, I posted on the 12th and the 15th I was on Yas for a week, noticed a bad change of moods etc.
well here's the time line....
I got my period on Saturday Aug. 4th and started the pill on the 5th. I stopped taking it the 13th or 14th So I was on it for 8-9 days. Well I am spotting heavily and have major cramps which all started the 17th. And while reading the new posts and seeing how people are complaining about migraines I REALIZE ME TOO! I got a migrane on Thursday night the 16th at work. At first I thought it was due to lack of sleep, work or having had taken a late lunch.... fine I go home go to bed. Wake up early still had the migrane but went back to sleep since I didn't have to be at work until late. Headache was gone when I woke up again. But I've been feeling a little discomfort in my head very slight. I's like a ball was rolling around in there and any sudden movement would hurt a little as if the ball bounced against the walls. Anyway today the migraine came back full force same place. Right side of my head like a pin has been inserted from the back to the middle of my right eyebrow. Has anyone been feeling like this? And I am spotting and have very very bad cramps. I dont know whats going on if it's me having a bad week or if it has anything to do with this damn pill. Anyway thats it, sorry if I'm rambling a bit I am having a very hard time trying to express myself with my head pounding.

I had the Mirena inserted on 25 June 2007 as I was having terrible trouble with my prolonged periods. After having endometriosis and a cysts removed, doctors advised this would be the best thing for me, especially as I've had lots of problems with several different contraceptive pills.
However, since 25 June, I have been bleeding, I stopped for 2 days and now have started bleeding again! Hair is falling out, mood is really low and my skin has become really itchy especially on my face. No matter what cream I use, even tried anti-histamine tabs, it's just getting worse. Last night I experienced terrible leg pains in both legs.
I'm going back to the doctors today and am now seriously considering having the thing removed as soon as I can. I don't feel myself at all.
Has anyone else experienced problems such as this?

I have just come across this site, while looking to find out why I have been experiencing heart palpitations for the past two months - out of the blue!!! and usually "exercise" induced. I had some tests and have been told they are Premature Atrial Contractions "PACs". I started taking Yasmin in April, after having tried others over the past year (tri-cyclen lo and alesse) which did not work for me as the progestin was not strong enough. I am in my 40s and never took the pill before. Yasmin was great, it significantly reduced my "physical" pms (severe inflamation, severe bloating, severe sore breasts) which I experience for 2-3 weeks a month. However, sometime in mid to late June, I started getting palpitations/tremors out of the blue. The first episode freaked me out and lasted for about two weeks. At first I thought it was allergy medication mixed with my thyroid med, which can happen - but I cut out the allergy meds and still got them. They seem to come about 6hrs to a day after I fexercise/figure skate and they last from 2 to 5 five days. It's very irritating and nerve wracking, and I feel very agitated. I am also out of breath more than usual when walking up stairs, a little light headed and have some tightness in the chest. My legs also are weak, which makes no sense given my exercise regimen. I then lowered my thyroid replacement from .125 synthroid to .100 - too much thyroid med can cause some palpitations. Anyone who has mistakenly taken a second thyroid pill having forgotten that they already took one will understand. Even with the lower dose I am still getting the palpilations. I am totally at a loss as to why all of a sudden this is happening to me (perhaps perimenopause??). I have had the odd flutter here and there in my live, but nothing like this. It just doesn't make any sense ag ll. Can one's health just change like this overnight?. I am otherwise healthy, slim, have "lower" blood pressure (apprx 100-90/70-60)I skate 3 to 5 times a week, I have a full time job and yes I do push myself, but this is getting ridiculous. The only thing I can attribute it to is the Yasmin, ... but my symptoms only started after a few months not instantly, whereas it would seem that most of the the women here noticed the side effects faster. I hate to stop the Yasmin because I will have to return to pms "hell", but I suppose I will give it a try to see if the palpitations subside. At this point, I have been offered a low dose "beta blocker" and have refused. I am stunned to think that all of a sudden I have heart issues, especially since my Dr has always kidded me my that I will never have heart problems with my blood pressure. I will stop the Yasmin tonight and post another message in a few weeks one it is out my system. Here's hoping it is the Yasmin.

Hello All,
Not to discount the individual experience of the last post, I feel it important to remind readers of this site of the many many women who like myself developed devastating symptoms (depression, anxiety, vertigo etc) OVER A YEAR AND A HALF after they began taking it. Like the previous post, if I had found this site during my first year and a half on yasmin I would have thought 'those poor women, thank god it hasn't affected me like that'.
The point is this...I stopped taking yasmin 2 years ago after realising it was the cause of my mental health problems (with no history of such) and can thankfully say I am now back to my 'old self' i.e before yasmin. I have made it my mission to educate all women I know about this pill as I truly believe it is poison. Of all the women I know who have taken it I am yet to hear a positive story.
Please don't delay...I would not wish my experience on my worst enemy. I won't be happy until this evil pill is off the market.
On a clinical level, remember this...Yasmin is a very young pill and consequently does not have the clinical trials data to fall back on. In my last 2 years of research of the contraceptive pill (& my background is science) I am yet to come across a pill that has received such negative a reception as yasmin/yas.
I myself will never go on another pill. To know how your entire being can change, your perceptions of the world, your relationships...all because of a little pill. The power that little pill has is terrifying.
I wish all women recovering from this pill all the very best. I have been where you are and am now on the other side. Each day is a step closer to the real healed you. Be strong and be sure to talk about how you're feeling.
Take care

Hi All,
i had no idea so many people are suffering while taking yasmin. I
actually have been taking it for 6 months with few side effects...but
recently my right hip is very sore and painful. After reading these postings, I'm worried about blood clots now.
I stopped taking Yas. about a week ago. My skin was
glorious on Yas, but after a couple of months I felt like my skin
is drying up...I have eczema all over my legs.
I did experience vaginal dryness as well...
Right now, I am rather disappointed. I thought I found a pill that
worked with my chemistry, but I guess not.
Sigh.

My 16 year old daughter took them as a way to make her period more regular. However it didn't work for my daughter. She had terrible moodiness(depression), her skin underwent bad, food cravings, When I spoke to the nurse practioner abut this she wrote it off to teenagerness NOT the Yasmin. I was convinced it was Yas, She's off and feels much better.

I took Yas for 2 months, both months right before and during my period I got these HUGE, CYSTIC erupting pimples that were so painful and lasted for 2 weeks, wouldn't heal and got severe scarring. It was so horrible and I have never had such bad skin condition in my life. I did lose a little bit of weight but I was moody, irritable and depressed, more so than on any other pill.

Hello,
-- By lovenbeauty | Reply | Private Message meI have been on Yaz for a little over a year. I have experience a few side a affects, which has me on the path to changing my birth control. Since I was 18 I was on Othro Novum, last year I decided to try Yaz to help me with my mood swings during my period. I have notice I have gained about 8 pounds this year. I have been working out for the last month and my weight has not moved. I went on that website for yas and weight gain. Thinking okay limit my calorie in take and workout. That has not work. Recently, I have been having BAD migraine headaches. I had a migraine headaches the entire week before my period and during the week of my period. I went to a neurologist earlier this week and he prescribed me migraine medicine and told me to get off the YAZ. Oh yea and decrease sex drive. Sex is thing from my mind. So, now the question is what do I go on now. I am 26 and I didn't have this many problems on my previous birth control. I thought about Yasmin but I hear you can have a decrease in sex drive with that too. So what do you go on then?????? lol
