Hello: I am so sorry that all of us are suffering since taking this pill. My experience with Yasmin was brutal and 3 years later I know am told that I have developed b12 deficiency or a very serious, but treatable condition called pernicious anemia. I never had it before then pill. I took Yasmin for only 5 months and felt sick the whole time. Headaches, strange moods, even a popping sound in my head some times, bizarre symptoms. I called my OBGYN and told he I was stopping. She said the pill did not cause this, but if I felt it was related to stop. AND IT WAS! She now admits to feeling bad for this. She did not mean it. Doctors only know what they read from the literature of a drug. I stopped taking it and was in the hospital within three days. I was in shock. Night sweats, tingling skin, no energy, stomach problems of every kind. Severe pain in my left ovary, suicidal depression and on and on. The worst part is that I began to get sicker and sicker. 3 years later of still being sick. The only thing that has helped my system is acupuncture and a serious diet change to aid my system, I find out that I have a serious b12 deficiency, which I never had. They call it an autoimmune disease which impedes you from processing b12 and all this starts in the tummy! I lost a baby during this time while pregnant, now we know it was this! The Yasmin pill has been pulled off the social medicine of some European countries due to such severe side effects. Their is a girl on this blog getting names together to start a class action suit. I am in. No one can get me my three years of suffering back, or my lost baby or my lost work. I am a professional flamenco dancer and let me tell you it is not easy to perform with a serious b12 deficiency which affects nerve endings, heart tissue and neurology! And the cure for this is b12 injections for life! If you want me to forward your name to the girl with the attorney you can write me at:****** Well I am going to keep trying to be well. I am young and have a whole life ahead of me.

My wife just took her first Yasmin pill today, and later that same night, she began to complain about feeling manic. She started to clean the house, and eventually laid down complaining of anxiety. Later as we were watching TV, she described a drug-like euphoria, similar to the come down of heavy stimulants or a mild hallucinagine. Out of concern, I hopped on the internet and came to this website, but I question whether she is experiencing a placebo effect. I believe these posts, and the harshness of the side effects, but I wonder if it is possible to experience the side effects so early on in the treatment. After reading these posts however, we are both considering trying something else.

Help me! I have stopped taking Yasmin for about 4 or 5 months because my husband and I want to conceive. I AM STARTING TO LOSE MY HAIR! I am so worried about this as I am losing at least double the normal amount everyday and this has been happening for about a week now. I have noticed the difference as my hair is not very thick. My husband has noticed. My friend says she can't tell, but if you look in my bathroom and my comb you would think I was undertaking radiotherapy. I went to my doctor two days ago and she thinks it could be thyroid or iron problems. She thinks it could be ceasing the pill but is unsure......PLEASE, is there ANYONE who has experienced this? And if so will it stop? I am so distressed about it.

I'm so happy i found this I thought i was loosing my mind, little did i know all my problems had one cause. I've had time were a headache has lasted 3 days, I used to play sport now i'm to lazy to move let alone go outside. I've been depressed before in my life but none quite like this, I'm happy right now but i have days were i look at my partners face and i'm disgusted by him, i don't want to be touched i just want to curl up in a ball and feel nothing at all. What else... as soon as i started on Yasmin my skin went to hell became dry and itchy and blotchy, dead libido, pimples on my chest, it's just screwed with all my hormones, my hair is dry one second oily the next and it used great no effort, now my only option is to have it tied up all the time. I have also had major anxiety attacks and stress about minisucle things like not having anything to do! ridiculous.
I've tried other pills before with no prevail, i've decided to cease use of Yasmin and have given up on all pills...i say unless you allergic to laytex i say condoms are the way. I'd rather give up sex than live like this any longer.

I have been taking this for 3 days and I am a little worried. My legs feel kind of tingly and sore (started about an hour after i took the 1st pill). I am not swollen or anything...this is pretty much my only side effect, but I can't get a hold of my obgyn to ask her about it, since I have to wait 2 months to get an appointment with her...I dunno. The leg cramps can't be a blood clot this soon? This site is really worrying me now.
It is not a shooting pain like they say in the pamphlet Warning Signs, just kind of a dull pain. I had a lot of leg cramps as a child and this feels just like it, but more mild.

I have been taking Yasmin for about 6 months now. So far, so good. I haven't noticed any side effects yet. Before taking Yasmin, I had the hormone implant Implanon for almost 3 years. During that time I had gained a lot of weight, I was really bloated. My face looked swollen and my tummy was huge that people thought I was pregnant. I also had mood swings, feeling tired all the time, occasionally having pain in my tummy and others. Since having it taken out and being on the Yasmin pill, the weight has come off and I have felt better. I hope this will last. As I read here about the side effects and when I start to have it, i'll have to look for advice again. I hope there will be a better alternative besides abstinence.....

I am a 32 yo Mother to 4 children. My ONLY purpose for taking Yasmin was to control the severity of my periods. After the fourth child my periods became so heavy, crampy and unbearable that I had to do something. I have been on Yasmin for a little over a year now and all I can say is had I known then what I know now...I wouldn've said to hell with that!!!
Mood Swings, I mean my god ladies, they are awful, my husband of 10 years never once called me a Bitch and now I hear it all the time it seems, the weight gain was off and on. My metabolisim slowed to a stop basicaly, my hair started to fall out of my head and found itself on my face. The sobbing for no reason (at a dog commercial ladies..a dog commercial) constantly being tired, then not being able to sleep when i knew I was exhausted.
My libido was non exsistant which caused termoil in my marriage for a period of time. There was nothing I could do. I felt so helpless. Out of control, sad, sick, and in general just BLAH!
Secondly the medication was supposed to help reduce the severity of my periods and make them shorter..HA HA HA HA HA!! That's the biggest joke. They are still the same now as they ever were. 8-9 days, filling a super pad within and hour and a half, having to wear both tampons and pads just to go out in public. I have had no pills for a week. I quit cold turkey so to speak and I have had spotting lots of spotting, headaches, and bloating associated with nausea. I am glad that I am off of the Yasmin pill and I'll never go on Yasmin again!
I would love to know of a lawsuit pending against them, so that I could be returned all the money I spent in copays, to feel worse than I did before I started taking it.

This Yasmin pill seems to be not all its hyped up to be.
I am on my third pack now, and although it has taken away my period pain, I get prolonged periods (longer than 8 days!!), and my mood swings are unbearable.
Also, I don't know if this is just me, but when I go out into the sun to get a tan, I develope a very patchy tan. And it seems to go dark above my lips and on my chin. It looks terrible. I have never had this before, I am naturally olive skin coloured, but ever since I started this pill .. my self esteem has dropped.
I must note tho, I have lost about 4 kg since starting it... that can't be a bad thing.
Thats all.

Hi y'all... (actually i'm from England but i like the sound of that first line)...
Well, i've been reading quite a lot of these reviews, after being made to feel like 'the only one' to have suffered from the fancy new yasmin pill, and what claims the manufacturers make!! It's almost like a wonder drug and according to them it's supposed to solve all the female problems connected with BC pills... like depression, weight gain, anxiety, PMS, headaches etc etc... the only trouble is, i found it CAUSED all those problems in me and within a very short space of time. I've only been on it for ten days but i can't stand to take anymore...I've never felt so shit ...(can you hear the 'irritability' for starters'..?!) and I've never felt so TIRED in all my life, and that's saying something, cos i'm a nurse and i can get pretty bloody tired in my job sometimes...also i feel totally 'weird' and i'm battling mood swings and depression like i've never had before. Friends have even remarked that my 'personality' seems to have altered, from 'stable and positive' to 'erratic and melancholy'...and as far as sex is concerned, forget it, i have no sex-drive whatsoever. Other effects i have suffered are constant nausea, painful wind, ringing in the ears, extreme changes in body temperature from hot to really cold, itchy skin and painful twinges all over my body!! I hasten to add, these haven't been all at once, but everyday i suffer from atleast two or three of these symptoms, to quite a noticeable degree. Today i threw the remaining pills away and was glad to chuck them out with the rest of the rubbish; these pills have caused my thinking to be so 'screwy' that now i seriously believe that getting pregnant isn't as bad as all this!!!
Best of luck to anyone brave enough to try out this new pill, after all these negative reports on this site, think to yourself is it worth it?!!

Where do I begin??? I have been taking Yaz for six months. Migraines! The worst migraines ever, I cannot function for one full day and sometimes more, the pain was so intolerable.
Hives! For the past two months, I keep thinking that I had a food allergy; even my doctor diagnosed it as that. After going to the allergist, I was told that I have developed an allergy to the Yasmin pill. No part of my body has been discriminated with this medication. Hives from the top of my head, in my eyes, right down to the bottom of my feet! This has been the worst experience of my life with this pill.
Fatigue to the extreme! I fall asleep sitting up and never feel rested. Yaz has caused me to go up two cup sizes so far, I went from being a 38C to a 40DD and I can't fit into anything. My boobs are sore a lot.
Weight gain, at least 20 pounds heavier. Nausea; Indigestion; Diarrhea & Constipation; Decreased Sex Drive; and Mood swings; Uncontrollable Rages; Severe body aches; Hot Flashes/Chills; Crying Spells; Blurred Vision; Lack of Concentration; Trouble sleeping; Dizziness; Shaking; Restlessness mainly after 9pm when I should be winding down to go to bed; Terrible night sweats; Never ending cravings for junk food; Inability to cope with stressful situations; Feeling of being inadequate; Can’t concentrate; Gassy; Hate family & partners; Irrational.

I just started taking the Yasmin pill for 2 weeks now and the things is I though that it was just me and not the pill. But the dizziness, itchiness, blarred vision and the sensitive stomach aches including the vomiting and a whole lot more made me visit the web to read up more on the pill. As this was the only thing that I've changed in the last 2 weeks. I came across this site and it shocked me. The reason is that I now know for a fact that it is because of the pill. Everything I read here is what I feel. So I AM STOPPING AND WILL NOT CONTINUE FURTHER. What shocks me even more is that the doctors claim that this is such a "good" pill to take. Don't they know. Why do the prescribe it then.
Thanks for the site - It think I will be "normal" again.

I am on my second pack of yasmin. So far i am not really
satisfied with it because it has been nothing but a
rollercoaster, and uncertainties. I dont even feel like the pill
is working. Maybe thats just my paranoia. My side effects
have been pretty bad. First of all i smoke and i frequently get
major heart pains. (im working on quiting smoking) I have
had a very unusual and uncontrolable smelly vaginal
discharge. Even after months of no sexual intercourse. The
week that i was taking the reminder pills (during menstration)
I literally went psycho. I ended up getting fired from my job
for cursing at a kid, i threatend to move, and all of this for no
reason at all. I did use the ortho evra patch prior to the
yasmin pill and i was way more satisfied with the patch. Oh and to the woman who commented on the questioning her sexuality. I have been a homophobe for my whole life, recently i have become attracted to girls. I think it has a lot
to do with the hormones just making the libido out of control.
some women say that their sex drive has fallen, mine has
skyrocketed, just in the opposite way lol.

Hi everyone!
Well. It's now been 6 1/2 weeks since I took my last Yasmin pill. My husband told me yesterday that I seem more like myself these days! I asked him to describe how I USED to act. He told me that I would go off on a tangent for no reason, get my feelings hurt over tiny things, have days where I'd hardly talk at all. He said he's glad his wife is back!
Guess what?? I mentioned the side effects of Yasmin we have all discussed here to my doctorS (ob/gyn/internal specialist/family md & ENT!)....they all said they've never heard of any of it! They offered me Paxil,Zoloft, referral to psychotherapists, endless tests and bloodwork. I mean, Holter monitor,EKG,Echocardiogram,3 blood tests, and tomorrow they want to do a CT scan on my head. I'm thinking I don't really want to expose my head to radiation over this.
I've not had anymore "attacks",no heart palpitations,my so-called IBS with diarrhea has miraculously disappeared! But they doctors don't believe it could be the Yasmin because it's "such a mild dose of hormones". Can you all believe this??
I'm so freaked out over what's happened to me these past few months that I don't know that I'll ever take BC pills again. I'm contemplating asking to have my tubes tied. Really!
I'm so glad I accidentally found this site. Now if I could just find something to explain the burning pain sensation down the side of my neck and in my inner left ear and the tingles in my left arm I'll be SOOO happy. Could these be side effects too after 6 1/2 weeks off Yasmin?
Take care all of you. I'll check back periodically to see how everyone is doing! :o)

Hello reading a few pages seriously thinking of getting of Yasmin pill I just started taking for a half of month. I am also on a compounded thyroid medicine and I started taking Yasmine and I am having stabbing pains in my chest can birth control combined with thyroid meds cause this does anyone know?. My mom thinks I should get off them and see if it goes away, but my skin is starting to look great so I am a bit disappointed I guess I could try not taking them and see what happens if the chest pains go away. If any one has any advice let me know.

Thank you all for your comments! You are helping me to believe I am not crazy! I went on Yasmin after my 2nd child almost 2 years ago (Ortho Novum was working fine, but the doctor said this is such a great pill!) and I haven't slept much since. I went off Yasmin for about 3 months last summer, but my doctor again said Yasmin wasn't the problem and put me back on it along with Ambien. Now the crying and anxiety have started along with the insomnia. Doctor thought I should try LexaPro, but after reading all of your postings I am never taking another Yasmin pill again! This stuff is terrible - I wil be posting my side effects with the FDA...

Back from the RE:
We discussed many forms of birth control (none of which appeal to me) and he agreed bcps are not for me do to my reactions to them. He did question my correlating the YAsmin to my anxiety and said if that were the case I should've been like that from the first month on them. I quickly informed him of many of you here and asked that he not jump to conclusions just because the FDA; the warnings in the Yasmin pill pack and his Medical Journals all say that it DOESN'T cause us to be this way. He quickly let that go!
I was FINE before Yasmin. I was energetic, happy, and went with the flow of my hectic life with kids and an at home business. Then BAM I turn into a whole other person with serious issues mentally and emotionally and NOTHING in my personal life changed to cause this. How can anyone not conclude it a pill full of hormones?!!!!
He reluctantly prescribed me Xanax to get me through the next couple of weeks but said he would NOT prescribe me a refill. Which I said was fine because I really dont want to take anything but I can't just keep trying to make it through the day with my kids and me feeling so horrific.
Each day I feel a TAD better; what I wouldn't give for that magic wand to make it all better in a poof. I signed up for a 'Mind, Body & Spirit" (some sort of Yoga) class on Saturday and Wednesday so I am hoping that helps as well.
Enough of my lengthy reply! Hope everyone here continues to improve; all be it slowly. Everyday that passes is a another day we can all be 'us' again.

Hi everyone!
I took my last Yasmin pill on Friday because on Saturday I got the worst migraine in my life... I was super sensitive to light, smell, and noise and hated everyone and everything. I never used to get migraines before so finally, convinced that it was the pills, I stopped taking them. I have been feeling very anxious all day long after my first Yasmin-free night and I googled the side effects to try and convince myself I'm not crazy when I found this site. Thanks to everyone who's been posting here, I already feel better about my decision to stop them. Has anyone found a replacement that works well for them? I think I will go pill-free for at least a month and see how I feel first.
My side effects include waking up in cold sweat with severe panic attacks, increased heart beat (that scares the hell out of me), chest pain and pressure, fatigue, nausea, unbearable migraines, depression, yelling and crying for no reason (I never yell!), and what not... I had only been taking them for four months... any idea how long it will take for the symptoms to go away? I read over and over that the first three months are the worst, is it still that bad if I haven't been taking them for long?
Thanks again everyone,
B.S.

Hello fellow Yasmin Survivors,
I have been reading your posts this afternoon and felt like I was reading my diary of a year ago, when I stopped taking Yasmin. I had been taking Yasmin for about a year with no noticeable side effects when suddenly I became overwhleming depressed, anxious, dizzy, lost about 6 kg in a week....I basically became the shell of the person I had been my entire life (a happy, outgoing, positive woman). My poor family were extremely worried about me, and no one knew what was wrong....then one day in a moment of sheer desperation (and I believe thanks to God above) I found this website. I'll never forget crying into the computer screen as I read other women's avid descriptions of my life. I never took another Yasmin pill.
Well this last year 'post yasmin' has been a challenging one to say the least. I have suffered anxiety (disturbing irrational thoughts) around mid cycle and before my period...the first 6 months were the hardest....but trust me, it DOES get better. I am still not 100% anxiety free, but I am very close to it, and there were times a few months ago I found it hard to trust I could ever be the old me again. I have been taking 'Agnus Castus' for the past 4 months, and have been feeling mentally alot better for it...but then again each month gets better so it's hard to tell whether it's the natural effect of time.
Everything you are all typing about I have lived through...I remember reading this website countless times everyday just to reassure myself that I wasnt crazy and I was going to get better. The great news is I am better now...life is sweet again.
Good luck to all of you, and God Bless x

Wow, this site has totally amazed me.. I thought that I was going mad for the past couple of weeks, but I am seeing now that that is not the case.
I have been using the Yasmin pill for the past 3 weeks. In that time I have like so many of you experienced: nausea, such sore breasts, a headache that has so far lasted for 8 days, bloating, mood swings, irrational anger, excessive tiredness and a giant drop in my libido. A lot of the symptoms feel like pregnancy - so I am going to get a test today. I fear though, that they are more a result of the pill than from being pregnant.
My doctor, did not tell me of any of these adverse side effects, he simply said it would clear up my skin. Heh... well its certainly done more than that. Does anyone else get the feeling that the pharmecutical companies are paying lots of $ to keep the actual effects of this drug quiet so that sales continue to increase? I don't understand how if so many people are using it and having adverse effects that it is being recommended so frequently. *sigh*
Yesterday, when I found this site (in tears) I decided to stop using the pills, I wonder how long it will take this body to find itself again. Any thoughts on the ratio between the length of use and the amount of time to recover would be appreciated.
Good luck to all of you, and thank you for sharing this important information.

When taking YAZ there is only one question to ask yourself, do you feel lucky? Well do you? I am the fiance of the daughter of y_oung_a_american_z_ombie who was laid to rest on Aug 4, 2008. (See posting) She was misdiagnosed with pleurisy by what we thought was a trusted doctor, and passed away from a pulmonary embolism. I want all who are planning to take this drug or currently taking this drug to know that YAZ is a silent killer. Be aware that although you may tell your doctor that you are on YAZ your doctor should look at ALL the possibilities when making a diagnosis. God bless and watch over those that have perished at the hand of this crap and also to the survivors who are telling the true story of this "Wonder drug"
