I have been on topamax for about 7 months now for migraines && im about to get off of it. Im 18 years old and "trying" to do college but ive had so many side-effects its crazy. I cant go to the bathroom w/out taking laxatives cuz i just cant go ne more i literally have to take something everyday or i will be stopped up for a week or more. Ive been depressed and my anxiety has gotten worse.I take 150 and they want to put me up to 175 but i refuse because ive heard of people losing their hair taking it especially when they have a b12 deficiccency...which i have. I have horrible mood swings i can be happy one minute then sad or mad the next and i never used to be like this. Ive now started getting my migraines back so im stumped on what to do. I cant word things right....i was trying to say i didn't like something and instead it came up "im not to high"... yea so its deff a crazy drug but it can work for others and not. Not for me!

I started on the NuvaRing just this past Thursday. It was fine for the first couple of days; no noticeable side effects. I was instructed to put the ring in on the first day of my menstrual cycle, which I thought was odd, but I did it anyway. I usually have cramps before my period and on the first day and then they are pretty much nonexistent, but with this period I had them into the third day. I still didn't think anything of it until today when I realized that I have been extremely irritable and emotional lately. You would think those symptoms would be chalked up to the period, but I am like clockwork every month. I start having PMS symptoms two weeks out from my period and through the 1st day of my cycle. After that, they are gone (besides the actual period itself). I rarely get frustrated with my dogs and lately they have been getting on my nerves easier. I have had a couple weird fights with my husband in the past few days, both totally due to my craziness, which is also not the norm for me. While lying in bed a few moments ago, I decided it must be the ring so I researched it and this is the website I found. I am glad I found it when I did. I am taking the ring out tonight and hopefully everything will go back to normal. My only worry is that I will start my period and it will last for 3 months like a couple of the stories I read on this website. I am going on my belated honeymoon in two weeks to the Bahamas and would hate to be on my period then. I have never had a good feeling about anything not natural going into my body, which is why I have never consistently taken bc. The only reason I started on the ring is because I had some samples from my gyno and had a pregnancy scare recently, which made me (and my husband) realize we are NOT ready for kids and scared me into starting on the ring.

A word of encouragement to all those that suffer from anxiety and depression:

You are not alone. I suffered from an episode of anxiety coupled with panic attacks a few years ago. I thought it would never go away, but I was able to work through it on my own and I am fine now. I still have occasional anxiety, but it seems to be for an actual reason rather than out of nowhere. Do not lose hope; you CAN overcome these conditions and live a normal life. Surround yourself with caring individuals and others who understand what you are going through. What I learned from my experience: trust yourself, have confidence in yourself (because everyone is amazing in their own way) and learn to let go of your past mistakes (everyone makes them). Don't let the word "mental illness" scare you into thinking you are crazy. Think of it this way... you are going through a difficult time in your life that you have to work through. "This too shall pass" as my mother has always told me in difficult times. It helps when you know there IS light at the end of the tunnel.

I needed a uterine biopsy so my OB/GYN prescribed something to dilate me. He also prescribed Reglan for my stomach. I didn't know at the time that's what it was or anything about the drug. He said to take the two meds together. I took 2 doses and after taking the second dose I got a tingle that went up my spine and threw me into a full blown panic attack for 48 hours solid. I couldn't relax so I would walk in and out our sidewalk and then I'd be so exhausted I'd have to lie down which was horrible. My heart was racing and I couldn't relax any part of my body. My entire body ached. Our small dog jumped on the bed and I thought I would die from the movement. I couldn't talk without the pain and I couldn't concentrate when someone would speak to me. I kept trying to rest by going to each part of my body and talking myself into relaxing. I'd start at my toes and by the time I would get to me ankles it was full blown panic again. My husband tried to give me a gentle hug and it was SO painful. I couldn't eat or drink.
I called the doctor and they insisted it was from the dilator but I knew it was the Reglan.
That was months ago and things have not changed. I still get a tingle in the base of my neck that goes up my spine and I get the panic attack. I can't sit and watch TV because when I relax it starts. I keep telling everyone that I feel like I'm not the same person I was before I took the drug but I don't know how to describe it to anyone. You had to go through it and feel what I felt to understand it completely. I fear I'm going to feel like this the rest of my life.
I'm now seeing a therapist that is helping me work through the attacks. Hopefully that will work. They put me on Celexa to help with the attacks, but that has side effects too. I tried cutting back on them but then the attacks got worse again. My therapist is well informed and knows about the Reglan and how bad it is. He is also taking me slowly off Celexa and replacing it with something else. I've been on Wellbutrin for years and have never had any problems with that.
My family is very supportive and that helps a lot. I feel very fortunate to have them.
I read all the experiences that everyone wrote and I can see me in all of them to some extent. I feel for every one of you and hope you all can have some peace in your lives.

Im so happy I found this site, as I too thought I was alone in this. I really beg someone to tell me, oce they came off the pill, how long did it take for them to recover? and for their first period to come? I was on the pill for less than a year, and came off it in Feb 08. It's now Sept 08 and still have not had a single period since. My weight has been fluctuating ridiculously, and the mood swings have made me lose SO many friends its unbelievable. i don't have energy to do anything, ive it a total depression. Im begging someone to just tell me how long after they stopped did everything feel back to normal? im worrying as its been 6 months for me and still nothing!!

I used the NuvaRing for 2 and half years. I developed terrible burning during intercourse making it impossible and on top of that, I had no desire at all. I never knew that it was the NuvaRing doing these things to me because they did not happen right away, it took a yea maybe for me to feel the full blown affects. I had constant headaches and everything. I was diagnosed with vulvar vestibulitis and everything and all I had to do was take the ring out and I felt great. It's been 3 months since I've taken the ring out and I finally have my sex drive back, I have hardly any pain involving intercourse and I overall, generally feel happier with life! NuvaRing has scared me so bad I'm now afraid to try any type of hormonal birth control! I never again want to be the person that I was on the ring.

Ok im really really REALLY glad i found this site cuz i was starting to freak out a little bit. i've been on lo24 for 2 months and im about to start my 3rd pack and my boobs are huge, i have random cramping, and my period isn't normal (which was the problem in the first place, a.k.a. what lo24 was supposed to fix). i started freaking out cuz i thought at first i could be pregnant, which would not make sense since im obviously on bc. but if these are normal side effects to the pill, im definitely a lot more calm now. im still getting a test done just in case, but im a little less worried thanks to you guys. and yea ive been gaining weight too, about 10 pounds already, and it sucks big time...if anyone knows of any other pill that might be better pretty please let us kno... :D thanks.

Hey everyone. Well I have found this blog to be pretty helpful at least to make me feel like I'm not the only one w/ these odd side effects. I have been on NuvaRing for 3 months now. I chose to do the "3 months" continuous ring and with this being the 3rd month to remove the ring, I had the WORST cramps in my life. I felt like I was having labor pains. For the most part NuvaRing has been good. I like that I don't have to remember to take a pill everyday and freak out if I forget. My main symptoms are constant discharge with some what of an odd smell, earlier this week I experienced intense breast tenderness and some discharge from my nipple(which I did freak out about, thinking I was pregnant),I noticed some dizzy spells and head aches here and there but for the most part those are gone. My boobs seem to have gotten bigger, probably half a cup size (yea).
Over all I am pleased with NuvaRing, I think I will just have to monitor my side effects to see if they are constant problem.

I had the Mirena inserted on 13 August, 2007. So far the only side effect I've noticed is that I need to go to the toilet constantly. It's like when you're pregnant and have to pee all the time. I haven't read of anyone else experiencing this (maybe because it pales in comparison to some of the other side effects mentioned). Has anyone else had this experience.

Hi I was a nuvaring user. I am 18 and my gyno told me that nuvaring would be better than any other birth control on the market. I really wanted to start on the patch but my gyno insisted on nuvaring.....yea that was the biggest mistake ever!! I had it for only 15 days because a 15 day period wasnt exactly what I wanted... I had no smile on my face for 13 days and I hated it! My back felt like I was constantly carrying boulders on it and I felt tired all the time. My coworkers had to constantly crack my back for me because I was almost in tears from the pain. I stopped using it and within a few days I was fine. I felt better, my freakin back felt better, and I finally felt clean for sex! But now im experiencing a problem that I hope someone out there can help me with... I stopped nuvaring about 3 weeks ago and ever since I have had gross brown discharge come out of me... Yea lost alot of nice underwear due to that. and now I have my period but its like alot!! minimal cramps but the blood sucks but im assuming that its normal? but does anyone have any advice??? maybe been through it???

I've been on Yasmin for about 8 months. After another totally neurotic night of fighting with my boyfriend and waking up this morning totally depressed, lying in bed crying for over an hour on a Saturday morning, I figured it was time to google Yasmin and read up on side effects.

What a relief to know I'm not crazy! Since I started Yasmin in the fall, I've lost all desire to do anything productive that used to bring me joy, like gardening, reading, etc. I have HUGE anxiety issues right now that seem to cause completely irrational behavior. I snap at people and often want to do nothing but lie in bed with the covers over my head. I can't tell you how many times in the last month I've felt like I hate everyone. This is NOT me.

Also, my breasts swelled immediately upon taking this pill, which I actually like! So at first I thought Yasmin was great. I do get a lot of bloating and back pain right before my period - and fatigue, depression, anxiety and loss of sex drive. Now that I'm reading up on it, I don't Yasmin is for me - although it may be great for somebody else.

Sarah,
I totally agree with you. I think the doctors get money from these companies for these pills. I also found it interesting about the FDA getting on the maker of the pill, I wonder if that has something to do also with not showing there commercial here anymore for yaz. I was so sick of seeing the damn commercial. It was on all the time here, "Yaz contains a unique ingredient different than anyother b/c pill," I swear everytime I saw that commecial I wanted to break the tv. Yea a unique formula that will screw you up!!! Funny thing is I have not seen any commercial in a couple of weeks for Yaz. Makes me wonder!!!!!!

I was on Seroquel for a while because the other Pills I was taking really messed my symptoms up..I had very little problems with Seroquel I had a good night sleep and it made my mood swings very stable..Yea I was happy with that but during the day I would feel like I was zoning out, felt like I was in a dream, and I would always get hungry..I dont need no weight gain..What is Up wit that? I tell my doctor and he jus raises the dosage like its nothing. Its like they really DO NOT care about ppl they just wanna send out meds like candy so they can get their job done.. I dont think they are realising what they are puttin ppl thru.

I went to the dr in sept about a pinched nerve in the right side of my neck and was given a shot in my left upper arm(which didnt help). A month or so later i noticed a dent in that area so i called the dr that gave me the shot and was told "yea that can happen but its not common"!!! so what i wanna know WHY AND THE HECK WASNT I TOLD THAT BEFORE!!! Im sure i would have opted out for the shot that didnt even help but left a nasty dent in my arm. The area feels hot and like a bruise but no other side effects that I noticed......and people wonder why we have no faith in drs!!!
