This site has helped me feel like I'm not alone. Thank you to all of the previous people who have written in about Coumadin. I am not the normal DVT/pulmonary embolism survivor. I just turned 37, am a runner, organic/healthy eating Mom of three kids. I had a PE, two weeks to the day of my plastic surgery (breast augmentation and liposcuplture). I am currently on 7.5 mg of Coumadin daily and my INR levels have been pretty consistent. I just stepped on the scale tonight after feeling "fat" and was shocked to see I've gained 12 pounds in almost 6 weeks since starting Coumadin. Yikes! I am hungry all of the time. I've also had memory problems and my hair is more coarse. I hope I don't have to be on this for too long. They say 6 months for me. Good luck to every one.

I posted a story on January 16 about my 16 year old daughter who turned out to have Factor V Leiden. She went on Yaz and nearly died a few weeks later. Factor V Leiden really is very common. Especially if you have Scandinavian blood or red hair. But it affects all races and ethnicities at lower levels. If you want to read more, the New York Times had a good article on February 24, 2008. It was about the decision whether to get a genetic test before going on birth control. B. A.

I have had THICK hair all my life. Was on WB XL (300mg) for 2 years went off because of memory loss. Was off for 6 months, felt good, but inevitably depression slowly crept back into my life. Went back on WB XL (150mg for a week, then 300mg). Been back on it for 2 1/2 months and just noticed 2 weeks ago that my hairline is thinning at the corners of my forehead. It's especially noticeable when wet or when the light shines down on my head. I can see my scalp. I have also noticed an increase in dandruff. Yikes! I am a hairdresser and it would be terrible for me to have bad hair while working with clients. Why didn't this hair loss happen when I first started taking WB XL 2 years ago? And why is it flarring up now? Is this a temporary side effect that will work itself out, or do I have to stop taking this drug? I'm glad that I am not the only one and that I am not crazy!

I have been on Paxil for just over a year. I am on it strictly for PMDD, and I can not use regular hormones so Paxil was the next best thing. I LOVE how much better I feel as far as the PMS symptoms are concerned, but my memory is TERRIBLE! I thought it was just me, I thought maybe I had some sudden memory disorder at 35! I couldn't find anything listed in the side effects having to do with memory loss. Movies are thr worst for me, I can not remember a movie to save my life. I have started a new job that requires recall from a dvd as well as a manual. YIKES! It is hard. I have also experienced a harder time paying attention. Almost like I know someone is talking but I end up tuning them out, like there is a blocker or something. It is really hard to explain. Anyway I am a very healthy, no other medications person. I am POSITIVE Paxil is causing this especially with the time line of it. Now I am scared to death to get off of it as I don't want to experience the withdrawals and I feel so much better than I did before, but the memory loss is awful, so what is the balance?

I don't know if it's the niaspan or something else, but I've developed a rash of all rashes from my neck to my legs. The itch is incredible and I've had it for four days now. I'm taking benedryl, but it makes me sleepy so I can't go to work. Anyone else had this problem? I just raised the dosage to the upper level from small and mid-range. I was on those 1 month each. I've now been on the high dosage for about two weeks. I stopped it two days ago. My CNP is out of town.......... YIKES! What do I do now?

OH MY GOSH! I thought I was crazy until I found this site. Ok, I had my Mirena inserted January of 2007, and IMMEDIATELY experienced joint pain, pain in my hands and feet, and it's 22 months later.. the pain NEVER went away. I thought because I was a very hardcore athlete when I was younger, that this was par for the course, that I will be getting arthritis. I'm 34 years old. Crazy to say arthritis at 34? I think so. Well, I have been researching my symptoms for months and months online and gone to a few different doctors over this. My symptoms include chronic fatigue, headaches (on a good week 4 days out of the week), joint pain in my hands and feet, sensations in my hands and feet that feel like they are swollen (but they aren't), upper and lower back pain, heart palpitations, leg cramps, hair loss, ABSOLUTELY NO SEX DRIVE AT ALL, muscle fatigue, and I've gained 40 lbs since I had it put in... OUCH. NONE of this (except for headaches and some depression) was experienced before the Mirena. Funny, I never linked it to the Mirena. I've had my thyroid checked, been diagnosed with carpal tunnel (lol what about my feet? Good doc!) had blood sugar checked (nope, not diabetes!), well, now I'm on to getting checked for fibromyalgia. Kinda wondering though, if there is a link to fibromyalgia and Mirena, like it could induce it? Sounds like so many of you have the same symptoms, and many have thought the same things... fibro, diabetes, lupus, ms, hell, I even though lyme disease at one point. This is ridiculous... I'm having it out this week.

I am amazed at what I am reading! I have only been on the ring for 8 days now. I already feel like I could jump out a window I am so depressed and moody. All I want to do is sit around and cry. I am snapping at my fiancee for NO reason at all. He is looking at me like I'm crazy and I don't blame him. I already have a decreased sex drive, not to mention the fact that it doesn't feel good for me with the ring in. I thought it was just me dealing with the new bc after taking pills. But now I am not so sure. And my doctor was thrilled to put me on the ring and gave me a full year of refills. Yikes!! I don't know what to do now.

For all of the poor girls who are searching "mirena experiences" because you are looking for a sure thing contraceptive-
This site is only for people who have had BAD experiences. Read them all if you want, but take into consideration they are the 3%, or whatever number, that had problems. None of these women deserved it, asked for it, needed it, or wanted it, but unfortunately their bodies responded to it in such an ugly manor.
Here's my experience so far....Had it inserted 8/06/08. Insertion was fine. Felt that speculum more than I could feel the actual insertion of the mirena.
Slight cramping afterwards...not immediately-went home and for like 20 minutes had cramps lighter than my period cramps.
For the first week bled lightly, second week had an actual period, week three and week four just spotting. The doctor told me this can go on for up to six months...kinda worth it if you think about it.
No acne problems so far, my hair is fine (and trust me, if my hair was thinning, falling out, or anything like that I would take the mirena out!), muscles and joints feel like they did before pregnancy, still breastfeeding (I know that they say that the mirena will make you produce less breast milk-tell that to my breastfed 13 pound 24 inch long 2 month old. he would disagree)
My breasts are a little tender and at first I was slightly bloated (less than if I were on my period) but that has subsided. Abstained from sex for a month after insertion per my doctor's orders, so I will come back and post if there were any problems with that...NEXT WEEK! yay!
Know that I understand the side effects could show up later.
Now again, EVERYBODY will experience something different. We are interfering with nature. Birth control is one of the most unnatural things we could do to our body.
Again, since this site commonly comes up when searching the mirena, I want for women to know that it might work for them better than it did for others.

My son has been on Singulair since the age of 6. He is now 13 years old. He developed seizures 3 weeks ago - temporal lobe aura epilepsy during which he was hearing voices. EEG abnormal, MRI normal. He hasn't started medication for the seizures but I have stopped his Singulair immediately! This was just a hunch - searching the net to see if there is any correlation. I have been to the Pediatrician AND the GP the past 3 weeks and no one said anything. I think a great number of children are on Singulair in SA. Does anyone know about the possibility of this danger?

Was fine for the first two months...a little spotting/some breakthrough bleeding, but nothing really awful. About three months in, I began experiencing terrible anxiety with such terrible panic attacks that I was pretty incapacitated as a mother (my poor little kids). My periods began starting the week before they "actually" started...you could call it "breakthrough" bleeding, but it was really a full-on bleed with lots of clotting, back pain, and cramps so bad I felt like I was having contractions. Most recently has been the nausea, I've actually lost weight because I've hardly been able to eat for weeks (thought it might be morning sickness---yikes!--but luckily my fun 2.5 week period began, painfully, yesterday so I'm in the clear). I didn't realize these things were all related to Desogen until I reread the package...it's pretty clear that the pills are the reason. I'll be switching pills next month at my annual appt.

Hello all.. I had posted after being on Yasmin for about a week and now I am into my second month. Last post I reported no side effects whatsoever and now I can say my first period ever on birth control (20 yrs old) was perfectly manageable, 5 days and pretty well painless. Still no weight gain or loss and no change in personality, if anything I'm a little happier because I am not so constantly irritated by my own menstrual unpredictability lol. The only thing I can say that has changed since taking the pill is the appearance of cystic acne... I used to encounter one of this type now and again but in the past few weeks they've been coming in the night, 2 or 3 at a time, usually chin and forehead. Yikes. Definitely a major annoyance but for anyone else who is experiencing this.. I have always found my skin's saving grace to be TEA TREE OIL!!! Love it. I wash every day with a bar of soap called Thursday Plantation and it is amazing (especially if you leave a bit of soap on as a kind of spot treatment overnight). Anyway it continues to be extremely helpful in managing this annoying side effect so that I can enjoy the benefits of a regular period and no pms or cramps, oh and no babies. lol. Good luck to everyone, and remember do your research but don't let all the negativity scare you away from something that could be good for you, because everyone is different. Glad to see some positive posts here this time tho! I will return again myself if anything changes :) xo

Wierd. I have taken Bactrim before and had no incicent - that I can recall. Well, today I was diagnosed with Bladder infection - took 1st dose of bactrim and about twenty minutes later (as i'm walking into a restaurant), everything starts going haywire. First wicked itching, flushing of the skin - then eyes turn BLOOD red, face swells, tongue starts feeling fat and hurts - heart is pounding. I freak out - and throw some money on the table for a glass of tea - that I didn't drink - Husband rushes me back to clinic - as we both think I am having aniphilactic reaction. Terrified. Never experienced anything like it - my face swole up on the way - horrible. Wanted to scratch my skin off. Palms of hands, feet everything feels like its "asleep" and has needle like sensations. They ask if my airway is tightening (!) not yet? They give me a "steroid" shot (generic term I guess), and a Zyrtec. I start calming down on the way home - itching subsides and then chest pains begin - now I think i'm having a heart attack. I don't know if the trembling is from Bactrim or terror. I crawl into bed and start bawling - cuz I feel like I almost died. It scared the shit out of me. Husband paces and wrings hands. Now, hours later - I have sweats, fatigue (dramatic day), and heartrate is still elevated. Left tonsil hurts when I swallow. Yikes.

I was prescribed Levaquin and my wife suggested before I take any antibiotics check on the side effects. Yikes! I have not touched one pill nor do I ever intend to. I will take my chances on the infection any day!

Complete lack of interest in doing much of any thing including sex!. Have became almost reclusive because I didn't feel confident interacting with people (I'm a VP of Sales.. not good for my job)! I was bumping into things.. Felt like I was on another planet.. Thought I was nuts... Great to have found this site Also.. Have gain 5 pounds that are not falling off since I stopped this med on my own after only 10 days.. YIKES! Who does this stuff work well for?

I'm so glad that I found this site, I am on my second week of Femcon Fe after finally filling my prescription from three months ago because I was terrified of potential side effects...and what do you know, they came! I am so nauseous, everything makes my stomach hurt, I am more emotional, I wake up feeling sick, I have terrible cramping, I have been "spotting" for 3 days straight even though I am only on week 2, I have gained weight, and I have a major loss of energy, not to mention I am really crabby and irritable - all of the symptoms were not present two weeks ago before I started the pill - not to mention I am not typically an emotional person. I used to take Ovcon 35 (Femcon's old drug) and loved it - absolutely NO side effects....Calling my doctor today, looks like a lot of us are in the same boat. Yikes!

I have been taking Yasmin for about2 years now. My cramps are less and my period only last like 3 days tops. I used to have to use a super tampon now I only use lites and sometimes a regular. My severe acne is gone and I haven't had any weight gain. Recently my doctor said to try Yaz......Big mistake. Each day after taking it, I was having chest pains. YIKES....went back to Yasmin. If I don't take it with food, I am lightheaded all the next day. Anyone else experiencing this strange side effect? Other than that, it has worked great!

I have had mine for about 4 months now. I have acne on my chin area which I never had before and brown, stringy discharge (TMI- I know).. It doesn't have a smell thank goodness, but I have noticed that I have developed a slight body odor. I am a clean person, but I cannot find a deodorant that works now. Is this a side effect? Does anyone else have this problem? My husband says he hasn't noticed anything, but I have. Oh and headaches, lower abdominal pain, lumpy, tender breasts. I am lucky and I have GREAT insurance with BCBS and paid only $25 for mine so it's no big deal for me to have it removed, but I hate to- I love that I do not have to think about birth control everyday.

I have been taking Yasmin for over a year and it has really helped me. It has reduced my mood swings, shortened my periods and I generally feel a lot better. However, recently my doctor gave me a sample pack of Yaz until I could get my Yasmin filled by mail. Yikes! I have had cramping, I'm tired and I had at least two episodes of severe night sweats. I also noticed a light sprinkling of acne on my chin and jawline. I don't get acne! I have very normal skin. I'm really glad to be going back to Yasmin and I hope to continue taking it for years to come.

I was on it for about two months and experienced a little of the upset stomach. The worst was the sunburn on my nose, hands, knuckles and tops of my toes. And the tingling sensation on my hands was so weird! My nose and hands have healed, but the tops of my toes are still bad (one month later!!) I'm really scared, but one of my docs say that toes take a really long time to heal because of poor circulation. Anyone have this problem with their toes?? Another doc suspects discoid lupus. yikes!

In January I was diagnosed with polymyalgia rheumatica and temporal arteritis (giant cell arteritis). I was put on 60 mg prednisone and an array of other meds to help with pain, inflammation, water retention, and stomach problems from everything. I've lost some vision from the TA. I've experienced the weight gain, the moon face, stomach problems, depression, fatigue, muscle weakness, lack of memory and concentration, and generally feel miserable. The brain fog is awful! I don't trust myself doing much of anything these days!
When I was first put on the prednisone it completely took away all my TA and PMR symptoms. I could walk and get up and down again, didn't have the headaches, and didn't hurt all over.
My doctor tried to taper my dosage about 6 weeks ago and all my symptoms returned and increased as I went down on the prednisone. He upped me back to 60. That time the symptoms didn't go away. They lessened but were still there.
He's trying to taper again, and I'm down to 30 mg now and feel worse and worse. My sed rate has been normal, so the doctor thinks it's from the prednisone. Does it mimic all the TA and PMR symptoms? I also am having a lot of hand and feet cramping.
Does anyone else have these two illnesses? I would be interested in your experience. I want off these meds! Anyone found an alternative approach that's helped?
God bless!

My problems started with bronchitis in December and snowballed. I have very minor asthma since childhood; usually one or two events a year. Don't know what happened but it was out of control. Started on Singulair as a means to bet my asthma controlled so I can go back to easier maintenance. I was only on Singulair 10 days. I had it ALL: depression, anxiety, numbness in legs and feet, flu-like symptoms, earache, leg jerks at night, can't sleep, dreams (when I did dose) that were so weird they were unreal, and the very small hint of stomach ache so I QUIT IT immediately. Went back to my doctor who was not opposed to it all; she send side effects can be nasty for some people and admitted SHE can't even take it. Hello???
I was never a dpressed person; at first I didn't know what in the world was happening to my personality. I think this drug can work for some but it appears to be a few - seems the side effects hit just about everybody in some form. I would be every careful taking this drug; the advantage has to outweigh the side effects, for me the side effects were far worse than the asthma flare-up.
I don't want to dish on the drug since it seems to help some people but I think they downplay the side effects entirely too much when the prescribe it; you don't see them all until you fill the prescription and start reading. Yikes.

I also am having trouble sleeping. It takes xanax or melatonin or both, to help me to unwind. Yikes.
I will be taking Advair for 4 years this March. The Dr. warned me that thrush and suppressed immune system were side effects. Are others not being told this? I rinse or brush my teeth after each dose. This is very important. I do have muscle cramping from time to time, so I eat potassium rich foods. Lately I have been having chest pain so I am concerned. Checking this out. This may be due to adding Singulair recently. Prior to Advair I could not get my asthma under control. Recently I went off of the Advair and the asthma was much worse. So..the side effects are not good but the asthma w/no Advair is bad also. Not sure what the answer is.

I have just brouight my normally laid back husband home from the ER. He is on his 5th day of levaquin for a sinus infection. He has not slept and has been pacing at night, aggitated and anxious day and night. His heart is racing and he is just not himself. He feels like he's coming undone. His sister said she had the same experience with this drug last year. She felt quite altered. Of course, all meds have side effects but the ER folks, though caring and thorough, hadn't heard of these side effects. only of nausea, dizziness and sleeplessness. I suppose onsse persons sleeplessness can be anothers acute anxiety. My husband can fall asleep sitting on a curb in the middle of a parade, and yet he hasn't slept longer than an hours restless stretch since taking this. They senst him home with Xanax to settle him down enough to sleep. He says he can't wait to feel sane again. I can't wait for him to stop being so wired and revved up. Yikes.

Hi, I am a 47 year old woman and started Warfarin and Lovenox June 29th as a result of blood clots in my left leg from knee surgery. I was able to go off the Lovenox July 4th (Yay!) because my INR levels were above 2. I thought the Lovenox was the cause of the nausea I experienced, but apparently that is not the case. I keep telling the clinicians at the Anticoagulant Clinic about the nausea and their response is that they haven't heard of it as a side effect. Thank you all for posting to this website, there is some comfort in learning you are not alone with these strange side effects. I also experience dizziness and have difficulty finding words. I think I will switch from Warfarin to Coumadin to see if the side effects are less, though many of you have written about weight gain ~ yikes. For those of you bruising with Lovenox I was told if the needle is dry when it goes in there is much less bruising. And to everyone my thoughts and prayers are with you. Oh yeah, I also have nerve pain in the bottom of my left foot, the compression hose do help website is ******
