WoW! I am SOOOOOOOOOOOO glad I found this website!
I had been taking Lisinopril HCTZ 10-12.5 once daily since April of this year. I was on Labetalol 200mg/2x's daily as I developed Hypertension during my pregnancy. Once I delivered my baby I was then switched to Lisinopril HCTZ by my primary care physician.
The Lisinopril did wonders for my blood pressure but by mid-June I started having side effects. I went to my doctor numerous times and then to the ER since I thought I was having a heart attack. The ER doctor suggested that I was having panic attacks or just symptoms from the cold I had. So, I went to my primary doctor and she immediately jumped and gave me Prozac. Never once did either doctor ever link the symptoms to the Lisinopril.
My symptoms included:
*Light Headed
*Dizziness
*COUGH COUGH COUGH!!!!!!!!
*EXTREME DIARRHEA - Everything I ate or drank came out like water almost immediately!
*Chest Pain and pain down into my left arm and fingers
*Chills
*Blurred Vision
*Rapid Heartbeat
*Cold/Sweaty Feet
*Sweating
*Bloated Feeling
*Tight/Itchy Skin
*Rash on chest 2x's
*Nausea
*****Panic attacks and feeling like I was going crazy!!!!!******
Upon finding this website Friday, August, 22nd, I went to my doctor and told her NO MORE was I taking this medication! It's POISON! I am now taking Ziac 5/6.25 once daily. Ziac like Labetalol is a Beta Blocker rather than an ACE Inhibitor and may not be as effective but I sure would rather this than Lisinopril.
I am still experiencing some of the side effects of the Lisinopril but I am hoping that they will deminish soon. PLEASE!!
I, like a lot of others have mentioned on this website felt like I was loosing my mind. I felt like I couldn't explain all the things I was feeling because some of the feelings just didn't come out right and did make me sound crazy. At one point my doctor told me it was "all between my ears!" Okay?!?!?
I hope this has helped others and I plan on making a complaint on the FDA website, this medication needs to be removed from the pharmacies! It's poison!
If anyone knows how long the side effects last after stopping this medication I would surely appreciate the info!

I went over to Lisinopril when I transfered insurance carriers recently. The new carrier was going to charge the max allowed for using Altace and Lisinopril is way cheaper. So I went back to Lisinopril and have been on it for about a month. When I first tried it many months ago I had a sick gall bladder that has now been removed. The side effects at that time include a rash on my chin, burning urine and crotch area. Within two days of stopping, the symptoms were gone. Since I don't have the gall bladder problem I decide to try it again to save money (ha). After a week I notice my BP was increasing. I was taking 10 mg so I went up to 20 mg of Lisinopril and that didn't work - my BP kept going up! I keep talking more of the stuff and my BP keeps going up. This morning I took 40 mg and my PB was 200/90 and I suddenly thought it's the meds as there is no reason in the world that my BP should be going up crazily like this. Then I found this side and several folks mentioned their BP had gone UP. No more Lisinopril for me. I'm so glad I found this site! Thanks all for being independent thinkers and sharing your stories!

Update to my prevous 3/31/08 posting: I stopped the Lisinopril 2 weeks ago & resumed my previuos med. (Ziac), which gives me no problem. All symptoms are gone but the cough is not quite completely gone yet. The strange thing is the higher the dose my doctor prescribed, the higher my blood pressure went. It nearly landed me in the ER! It immediatly dropped to previous levels upon stopping Lisinopril. Has anyone experienced this? Since my BP was a little high in the morning, a different DR. increased my ziac doseage and now I am Fine. My original Dr. still does not believe my problems are from lisinopril and insists I did not take it long enough. I say a month is long enough for me to know if I am better or worse. I do not intend to see him again. Thanks for reply to previous posting.

I originally posted on 3/16/08. I visited the Dr. on Monday about problems with 40 mg Lisinopril such as shortness of breath, slight dizziness, fatigue. He said that I "need" to be on this medicine and that if I feel that the 40 mg is too much, to cut them in half and see how I do and come back in 30 days. I really feel like he is an honest and caring Dr. so I;m going to follow his advice and see how it goes. Any thoughts?

It all began with LISINOPRIL: Constant involuntary pulsating, twitching, spasming toungue, swollen tongue, difficulty speaking, extremely dry mouth...
As directed by my new internal med doctor, I had recently begun taking one 5 mg lisinopril one time per day for my hypertension. I also take one 5 mg Ziac daily. I am a 40 yo female. I took the lisinopril for 6 days before feeling too frightened and anxious to continue the medication. I have now been off of the lisinopril for a week, and my involuntary tongue movements are still present 24 hrs/day. This is a very disturbing sensation over which I am powerless to control or stop. I am preoccupied with it and full of worry. It is very obvious that my speech sounds thick and impaired, and I am embarrassed to speak around anyone now. I know that "other people's opinion of me is none of my business" because I know the real truth, but I hate for others to assume I am intoxicated or impaired in any way.
Anyone else have the twitching, pulsating, throbbing tongue movements? If so, how long did this last?
Thanks, MAC

I started taking Lisinopril 5mg 3 months ago. I have been taking ziac 20mg for about 2 years now but my bp is up. After the first day I started taking it I developed a tickle in my throat along with a cough. It was cold season so I thought my kids were sick I had the same thing except it kept getting worse. Finally saw the doctor yesterday and toke me off the Lisinopril. I have more energy now, I didn't even realize that was another side effect. I hope the cough goes away soon. He wants me to take Diovan valsartan 80mg. I'll read up on other peoples side effects before I start taking it.

I have been taking lisinopril for just over a year now in combination with the generic form of ziac. Within the last week to week and a half, I have had terrible dizzy spells where I thought low blood sugar was the culprit. I have learned it low blood sugar isn't the case. I now have dizziness and extreme weekness where all i want to do is lay iin bed. Today is the first day I have not taken lisinopril. I am wondering if anyone else has experienced the extreme lethargic reaction but most importantly, how long does the side effect stay with you once stopping lisinopril intake?

Started taking lisinopril in June/05. Didn't realize it until a few days ago, but I have been experiencing unsual joint pain and muscle weakness for about 3-4 months now. I just happened to read the patient advisory leaflet that came with my mail order prescription and I noticed that I should call my doctor as soon as possible if i was feeling unusual joint pain. Lately I have been waking up to severe joint pain in almost every joint in my body, fingers, toes, tops of feet, ankle, knees, elbows, shoulders, and muscle pain in the forearms and calves. I feel as if I am 75 years old. I can't hardly get out of bed I am so stiff. Since I coudlnt get in to see my doctor until early March I decided to take myself off the medication. I am also taking ziac for high blood pressure. It can't be very good for my body to continue to suffer from so much joint pain. Anyone else have similar symptoms?

I took two ultracet before bed (I had only previously taken one). I have hypertension and takes meds (Ziac) for it. After taking the ultracet I woke at 4am and felt like I was floating. I didn't sleep for the rest of the night and got up feeling like a truck had run over me and very very tired. I felt worse as the day progressed and started taking my blood pressure which was very low. At 1pm 15 hours after taking the pills my blood pressure was 85/47. My top number was never over 100 all day and the bottom was generally in the 50's and 60's. I didn't get a normal reading until the next morning. My dr said it was because I took two ultracet. If I wasn't supposed to why does it say 1-2 every 6 hours? Has anyone else experienced low bp with this drug? I'll never take two at a time again.

Started at 10 mg/day, then doubled to 20 and finally 40mg lisinopril with 25mg HCTZ..
After being upped to 40mg I started getting a itchy lump in my throat that lead to an amazing amount of cloudy white mucus. This would usually occur later in the day and especially when I tried to lay down to sleep. Lungs feel fine, no wheezing, rumble or pain. Nostrils sometimes clog a little but not enough to explain where all the mucus was coming from. Throat doesn't really hurt except when I used a lot of generic sore throat spray.
Doctor mentioned the possibility of acid reflux or a seasonal allergy and give me generic Claritin which didn't help a bit. I'm 56 and can't say I've ever had a seasonal allergy in my life but he said they can develop at anytime so I was hoping he was right. When the weather turned cold and the symptoms remained I even thought I was allergic to something in my home, new drywall, fiberglass, mold something.
After considering the possibility of a reaction to lisinopril or terbinafine I started googling to find posts that described my reaction to a tee.
Besides the cough/mucous I've had a pounding heart, anxiety, fear of dying not knowing what was wrong etc.
Lisinopril seemed to bring my pressure down at the one month point so my Doctor doubled it to bring it down another 15 points. Three weeks later instead of going down it went back up so he doubled again and added the water pill. Today when I went to the Doctor it was still up and I told him about my web research. He agree it was not working for me anyway and I suppose he believed my suspicions about the side effects, at least for me.
He asked me "You're self pay aren't you?" as if just because I had to pay for the stuff myself I'd rather take the $4.00/month crap rather than pay for what I need. If you're self pay you even get 20% off if you pay within 30 days. I bet if I'd walked in there with insurance I'd have erg's, mri's, all that overpriced stuff.
Anyway he put me on Bystolic (30 days free samples :)) which I think I could detect a bit more confidence in his voice that it would actually work. I mean I'd much rather pay $4/month for generics if it worked and didn't make me feel like crap but I'll gladly pay the over inflated $50/month price for something that actually works without making me feel so much worse.
