My wife was put on Lithium about 2 years ago for only about 6 months and frankly I saw no improvement or change. We were assured that any decrease in thyroid activity would only be temporary however despite never having any thyroid problems before she was started on 25 micrograms of thyroxine to compensate for lack of thyroid activity. It is now up to 100 micrograms with no anticipation of any improvement. Although there seems to be no evidence of it causing permenant damage I wish now that she had never been started on it.

How is she doing now? I have been taking Lithum since May 2006. I was just diagnosed with being hypothyroid. Does she have that still. Did she ever get off the Lithium? I'm now trying to get off of 600 mgs of the lithium and my dr said to drop it to 300 mg and take for 7 days along with Abilify 2mg, then 5mg and 10mg( going up each of those each week),So I can get off the Lithium. I think thats pretty quick, seven days to get off of Lithium. My head has been killing me. I had trouble breathing, dizziness and light headedness and having mood problems...I need help getting off this crap. I was better than I am now before I got on the meds. So, I am on Lithium 600mg and alternating Lunesta 2mg and Ambien CR. and since yesterday I've had Lithium 300 mg Abilify 2mg and Lunesta. and those crazy side effects happened and I am now taking thyroid med, I think because of this damn Lithium. How the hell do I get off this damn Lithium safely without a dr. Since I can't see this dr all the time. Am I able to cut the 300 mg pills in half? Whats the safe dosage increments to get off this? I need to because of my thyroid and my life. I think all these drugs can be only somewhat helpful, but compared to the side effects. It's not worth it....Therapy and self help and support etc. I think is the way to go. I believe I was misdiagnosed by the dr who put me on Lithium. As a matter of fact. I looked a dr review for him online and he had all these complaints of diagnosing everyone with cyclothymia...Hmm. Thats probably happening to so many other people. Anyway, if anyone can help me get off Lithium please help, with the least side effects. Thanks.
