I've been on Topamax for about 8 weeks, 100 mg. per day for Migraines. The only side effects I have noticed is decreased appetite and it has affected how some food tastes and I LOVE food but it isn't too bothersome, it has helped decrease the migraines significantly and is completely worth it. Another side effect is my mood change for the better, before the Topamax, I would tend to lose my patience with my two teenagers and husband much easier. Just this morning, my husband commented to me how great we've been getting along and how I haven't "flew off the handle" over the littlest things ever since I've been on this medication, he doesn't want me to stop taking it. When I first started to notice the mood change, it was very noticeable to me and I felt very, for lack of a better word, "blah", I didn't feel sad or happy or anything, I felt like I couldn't get excited over anything but I didn't feel upset either, it's hard to explain, but now I feel fine, I'm very content and I guess you could say happy, my home life is going along great, so is work, as I also used to fight with my boss alot, we both like to be right all the time, and that relationship has also improved, so I wouldn't be concerned about treating your family bad on the Topamax if it effects you as it did me. I think it would be worth a try, if you see that it's not working, you can always stop but from what I've seen, it has been a very helpful drug for many people and maybe it can help you too, good luck.
