My 4 month old son was given the usual dosage for wheezing, the smallest dosage they had. Obviously it was way too much because after about the 3rd dose throughout the day he was so hyper and moving sporadically, his heart was racing then his eyes started rolling to the back of his head. It was very scary. The doctors decreased the dosage to only a quarter of the vial. Then we decided to just switch to Xopenex. NO side effects/ PARENTS with BABIES and SMALL CHILDREN I highly reccomend using Xopenex instead of Albuterol.!!!!

I am a little relieved to hear of your story. Right now as I type this I am experiencing nervousness because my 5 year old son just experienced fast heart rate right before bed and some pulsing in his mouth. He has been on albuteral for about a week and a half. This is the second episode of rapid heart rate that he experienced in the past five days. The first time was a few days ago at nursery school. He had chest pain, rapid heart rate and he was feeling like he wanted to vomit. This happened about 15 after he was running around with the other kids at school. I took him to the doctor that same day and the doc confirmed that he was okay. The doc says that he was probably feeling that way because of the asthma. Even though I've read your story and feel that there is a logical explanation for how my son was feeling, I still feel nervous that I will probably loose sleep just to watch over him as he sleeps. I'm taking my son to the doc tomorrow and I will mention Xopenex. Thanks for the info.
