Be very careful with Biaxin - I too was manic - so much so that I called my father up at midnight and asked him to go for a walk with me because I felt like I was crawling out of my skin. At the time I was a psychiatric Social Worker and it gave me quite the insite to what my manic clients experienced - great at first then look out!
The FDA should recall Biaxin!!! I caught bronchitis I could not get rid of in March of 2009. In April, I ended up having sinus surgery. Combined with the drainage and all that crap in my chest, I called up the doctor's office. Since I was allergic to Penicillin and I told the nurse that took my call that I was literally full of infection. She phoned in Biaxin 500 mg. I picked up the pills, started taking them and I was walking in circles by my refrigerator, but I thought it could be the pain meds I was on to help with the sinus pain. I have to take Ritalin for another condition I have and I had not taken it for a few days because it is prescribed to make me stay awake. I knew I needed rest. 7 days later, I took my Ritalin along with the Biaxin. I felt this huge feeling of paranoia, thought people were going to hurt or kill me, my heart felt like it was going to pop right out of my chest, I thought someone was in my house and was going to kill me, I heard voices that were not really there, and I was actually afraid of my own damn home. I felt as if in the course of one day I had developed Schizophrenia. It took me TWO days for it to all wear off and stop. People out there should be aware that the mixture of Ritalin LA and Biaxin could likely kill someone or just drive them to the brink of catatonia, or give them a damn heart attack. These two drugs are actually listed to take together safely. I am here to tell you what I went through in the hopes someone else does not make the mistake I did in taking these two together. I must add that I have never had depression or any mental illness in my life. I still don't feel like the same person I was thanks to Biaxin. This was the biggest hellride I have ever been on in my life. Who would have thought an antibiotic could cause this? I didn't until I started reading about it and I see that I am not alone.
