My mother, who is 86, was switched from hydrochlorothiazide to lisinopril on October 6. On October 15, her tongue started to swell. The pill's information said if this happened, to go to hospital immediately, so we did. She could have stopped breathing if the tongue had swelled much more! Her lips also swelled. This condition is called angioedema and can also affect the intestinal tract. She got Benadryl, but as of today, October 20, although the swelling has decreased, it is not gone. Now she is back on hctz.
