Be very cautious with this medicine. My 4 yesar old son has taken 2 30 day trials of singular, about 6 months apart. The first time we didn't notice a difference, so we agreed to try when it was recommended again. The most recent traial, just ending this week, was more of a success. His breathing has improved; However, he has had a series of strange side effects. It was only when discussing the renewal of the medicine, that we discovered that all the strange behaviors reported at school and home correspond with the start of his singulair treatment. The first time, we tried to explain it away as a growing toddler, trying to find his own. During this trial, he has been in an environemt dedicated to putting a child first. The teachers don't know what has been going on, but continue to ask us what happended that changed his behavior so suddenly 3 weeks ago. The only change in our lives was Singular. He has started to wet his bed, and even his pants at school on a daily basis. He is alway tired, but can't sleep for more than 3 hours at a time. He is very agressive, violent and verbally abusive for no reason. He is very bothered by his behaviors, but even more so that he can't make them stop. He has begun to sleep walk, and is unaware of what he is doing, or what he has done during the night. He always wakes up very confused, and never wants to get out of bed. He says he can't get up, but now I think that his muscles or joints have been aching, but he doesn't have the language skills to explain that. His new favorite book is the "my terrible horrible no good rotten day" Last night we read it, I explained to him that the medicine was causing him to make the bad decisions, and have the accidents that he has had. I tell him that I know he is a good boy, and he should start feeling better soon. It has been three days since we pulled him off of Singulair. His teachers have noticed a difference, as have I. He actually wanted to go to school today, and he didn't have an accident (this is the frist day in 3 weeks!). My son is normally a bit more hyperactive than others, so maybe he was pre-disposed to these unusual side effects. But even congested, he gets a better sleep at night without it, and has a better self esteem.
