I was put on Toprol after having by-pass surgery. After about three weeks I started going downhill. I was not improving only getting weeker and less lethargic. My doctor said it just takes times to heal and insinuated it was all in my head. But after two months, when I could hardly get out of a chair and my hair started falling out, he began to worry. I did some research and found that Toprol, in some people could affect the thyroid. It is also given for Hyperthroid. What it was doing to me was depleting my Thyroid. I am presently on .125 of Synthroid, the same that I was on before the surgery. After convincing the doctor that this was the problem he agreed for me to get off the Toprol but was not to happy to do it, as he did not think that was the problem. After two weeks I started feeling better but am not where I should be yet. It has now been three months since my surgery and I am slowing recovering after depleting my throid down to nothing.
