I've been on Yaz for 1 year now. I've been in a deep depression since September ( 6 months on Yaz) for which I've had to seek treatment. It took 4 months to get me straightened out on medications and still daily I struggle with it. Also I've noticed right shoulder pain, weight gain (60 pounds), no libido, chronic fatigue, bloating with horrible gas.Is all of this from the Yaz or is it my depression or what? I'm having a really hard time sorting thru all of this.

You are not alone. I gained 40 lbs in the three or four months after I started taking Yaz. I have been on it for a year and now I'm having migraines everyday. My doctor just put me on Topamax but the nurse mentioned that my BCP might be causing the migraines because it is a noted side effect of Yaz. I've been researching and I just discovered this website. Your post really hit home because I gained 30 lbs in the year that I came off of Ortho TriCyclen and then 40 lbs after going on Yaz (and I'm experiencing the fatigue, loss of libido, unexplained rage, stomach problems, etc. that everyone else mentions).

I quit taking Yaz just this past Sunday, 5 days into my third pack. Yes, I have a history of depression, and yes, I moved away from my hometown in the middle of my first pack, but things have gone well and I still found myself spiralling into suicidal depression, having super-frequent migraines, chronic fatigue, scary constant unexplained pain in my left knee, revolting stomach problems, and a DEAD libido. I can't begin to describe how angry I am that this pill that was supposed to help my PMDD put me in a pit of misery it normally takes catastrophic events to trigger. I was shocked- and relieved- to discover that I'm not going crazy. In the 8 years I've been on the Pill, I've NEVER taken one that messed me up this much! Today is my 4th day off Yaz, and I already feel ten times better- other people keep commenting on how "up" I am. BTW, I called the pharmaceutical company's customer line Saturday night to ask questions/complain, the robot said I'd hear back within 15 minutes... and I'm still waiting. I guess they're busy spending all our $50/pack payments! I know from other online comments that Yaz seems to help 45 y/o+ ladies enormously, but I wish they'd have the decency to market it to those women instead of the 20/30-something crowd that it may hurt far more.

Thank you all for your comments. I also have been on Yaz for about 2 months. I have been having very bad issues with depression and anxiety. Sometimes it gets so bad my chest hurts. I also recently started on Thyroid meds and thought that maybe that might be causing this, but I had these symptoms before I started them. I do have a lot of stress at my job right now and I keep thinking maybe that has caused the anxiety and depression, but even when I am out of work I am crying for no reason. Oh, to all this you can add I have had my period for almost 4 weeks now. I call my doctor and they said that can happen and to stick with it a little longer. So, between the non stop period, the stress and anxiety and oh forgot to mention the acne I now have, I think going on this was a big mistake. I decided to do it as a result of severe menstrual pain and now I don't know what to do. I guess the monthly pain is worth not crying and having chest pains from anxiety. Yaz has been a bad experience for me.
