I've had crohns for about 10 years. My last flareup was in December of 2006. I was on prednisone for 2 1/2 months. Since I've stopped the meds, my hair has started to fall out. It's been falling out now for two months and I'm afraid it will all fall out. I have yet to read anything about hair loss as a side effect of prednisone. What is going on?

Hi,
This is not unusual. The same thing happened to me. ALL of my hair fell out. I looked like a chemo patient. I was just about to look into buying a wig, but it started coming back. It has all grown back in, just as thick as before, only kind of oddly textured....straight underneath and super curly on top. Kind of looks like a perm gone wrong, like I only had it half done! Ah, well...at least I have hair again!
I must say that the doctors acted like they'd never heard of this happening with Prednisone, but I've talked to LOTS of people this happened to, including my mother-in-law, whose hair is almost all gone right now due to Prednisone. I don't know why the doctors seem to be putting on this act, because the hairloss seems to be very prevalent.
Don't worry...it can come back.
Deborah H.
