Krysten, I'm no expert on the subject, but based on the little I do know, you might be addicted to amphetamine/adderall. The "smartest" thing would probably be to get help from someone more knowledgeable, say a physician, or to tell your parents so that they can get help for you. Assuming you don't want to do that (seeing as you're looking for help on the Internet), I would, if I were you, decrease(!) the dosage back to 20mg per day and keep it there. 20mg is enough to help you concenrate - and keep you on the honor roll - and while it doesn't make you "happy", it shouldn't. You cannot be doing adderall for the high (that is, to become happy). That only works for a little while and then it will ruin your life. As for the rest of your life's problems, I really can't say based on just the information you gave.
I strongly urge you to return to doing prescribed dosage or at least to no more than 20mg. You probably don't want to hear this, but amphetamine is not the answer to life's problems. You're playing with fire.
Umm where did you get that Krysten was addicted to drugs?? You probably scared the poor girl. She said she was seeing a doctor and she is only 14 so i'm sure her parents are supervising her. Using adderal is not playing with fire if you really need the medication!!!
Kyrsten i just started taking adderal about 2 months ago. I'm 25 and in grad school ... i have had concentration problems myself for a long time and recently went to see a doctor about it. My doctors have tried me on about 3 different medications over the past 6 months the adderal seems to be helping somewhat. I am on 30 mg right now, and i'm like you i don't quite feel that this is enough. I'm going to talk to my doctor about it when i get home from school. But one of the side effects i have noticed is blacking out when i stand up to quick, esp. from laying down or sitting from a long time. This is a side effect from the medicine not an addiction problem.. 30 mg is not that much.
Krysten, next month when you get your prescription or the next time you have a doctors apointment... make sure to tell the doctor the side effects you are having and that you don't feel like the medicine is working as well. He may need to adjust it or you may need to try another medicine if your side effects get worse. Good luck!!
The best person to seek the appropriate answer immediately is your pediatrician. It sounds like you are taking too much for your weight/height. Because it often supresses your apetite, it sounds as though you are getting dizzy or anxious, because there are no nutrients in your system. You should only feel as though you can concentrate better, and you have a sense of being more focused, but you should not feel that you are "on drugs." Usually that feeling is due to too much medication. Please be careful, and ask your parent(s) to have you see your pediactrician asap!! Often times pediatricians can monitor your medication to determine what is appropriate. You can also ask for an Individualized Educations Program at school based upon your ADD and past failing grades. The school will place you in appropriate classes, modify your work load, give you more time on tests and turning in assignments, tutoring, and other resource services that will tremendously benefit you in the long run. These, in addition, to the appropriate prescribed medication are key to succeeding, feeling normal, and accomplishing everything you set out to do!! Good luck to you!!!!!
