I have what's known as cough equivalent asthma--on set as an adult. this is my first attack in about 3 years. I'm very unhappy with the Advair--the heart beating so quickly, the nausea and to top it all off IT'S NOT WORKING and neither is the albuterol. Today is my last day for the Advair. It's not even controlling my cough for minutes let alone hours or days. I'm losing my voice and will lose my part-time job because I don't have a voice. I can't hold a conversation without coughing it's making me dizzy and I'm tired because I can't sleep.

You are describing symptoms that I have struggled with for years as well. I have found that when the singulair, advair and albuteral does not eliminate the cough, I always have to do a short course of oral steroids(prednisone). I usually start pretty heavy 40mg 2x/day for 2days, then 30mg 2x/day for two days, and reducing by 10 mg in the above pattern down to 1/2 tab (5mg) 2x/day for two days. Works out to ten days. This usually works like a charm. Unfortunately, there are some side effects you have to cope with or treat simultaneously. Insomnia, weight gain & (I don't know if everyone gets this one)...leg pain. I also get a bit aggitated. (My family is forewarned.) I often require a sleep aide, and at times have to take Percocet for the severe leg pain. Nothing else has helped. Not much you can do about the wt. gain...but hopefully it will come off as soon as your done the course.

If you've never been placed on a short term course of steroids, you might want to ask your doctor about it. Hope you get better! (I just started a course of steroids last night...Yeah)

I have this disease as well and the only thing that helped was the inhaler Tilade. Ask your doctor about this and I hope that it helps you like it helped me.
