My daughter is 6 and has always been a good sleeper until she was put on Singulair. After 3-4 weeks of Singulair every day she started having severe halucinations, sleepwalking, and nightmares. It would usually happen about an hour after she went to bed. This continued after use for about another 1-2 weeks. Prior to that she was able to use her corticosteroid puffers with no ill effects. Since this episode with Singulair, after three consecutive days of using any corticosteroid puffer she will start to have mild sleepwalking an hour past bedtime. We have tried the nasal spays too and she still experiences this side effect after a few days of consecutive use. We feel terrible because we made a decision about medicine for our daughter that seems to have cause irreversible side-effects/brain damage. Now we are trying to treat her allergic rhinitis and asthma with as little medicing as possible for fear of doing more damage, but live in fear of her having a severe asthma attack at any moment. All meds have side-effects and we take them, but from now on I will not be so quick to think that they will never happen to us! Beware of Singulair!
Our son is about to turn three. My husband and I put off putting him in a big boy bed because his day care teacher says he sleep walks at nap time. He also mumbles and thrashes in his sleep. He has been on singlair for over a year, and I know I read vivid dreams are a side effect in the med insert but reading other peoples postings has convinced me it's time to stop using it. Last night at midnight he woke me up sobbing for me, I went to the nursery to find him sitting on the side of his car bed crying and swatting in his sleep. I laid him back down and patted him until he calmed down. He never woke up as I tried to reassure him and pull him out of his obvious nightmare. I hope pulmicort will be enough to keep his asthma at bay.
