I have Grave's disease which effects your thyroid. I got radiation therapy for my hyperthyoidism. My numbers are still hyper and I'm taking Topral. I take 25 MG in the morning and 25 Mg at night. I have gained 8 lb's in 3 wk's.If you are familar with hyperthyroid, I should be losing weight. My face and ankles are puffy and my legs are crampy. I'm going to ck into other beta blockers until my thyroid gets regulated.

I've been on Toprol for a couple years and have gained nearly 45 pounds. I'm 55 years old and feel like I'm falling apart. My weight was always normal until I started taking this med. I was always a size 12. Last year I found out I had hypothyroidism and hyperthyroidism with a cold nodule. Luckily, the nodule was not cancerous..but I had a total thyroidectomy in Dec. 06. Surgeon said the nodule was size of tennis ball. I thought a lot of my weight gain was due to thyroid issues. Then in March this year I found out I had osteonecrosis of the left hip. Your bone dies from lack of adequate blood supply to the bone. In May 07, I had a total hip replacement. I'm only taking half of a 25 mg tablet of Toprol but I'm convinced this medication is causing a lot of problems, swelling of my feet, hands, face and abdomen. My Dr. didn't take me seriously when I told her about my swelling, also my abdomen is swollen. She just laughed and told me to join Weight Watchers. This next week I'm going to see a new primary care Dr. and will talk to her about the Toprol. Dr. put me on this medication to relieve migraines. I've been trying to wean myself off this medication. Gotta be a better alternative. Good luck to you!
