My father who is 73 has been on Zocor for several months. Previously he was taking Lipitor. He has been having numbness and tingling in his arms and his side and just does not feel well. He also feels like he has a knot in his neck but he has had all kinds of tests and scans and no one can find anything wrong with him. His Dr. is insisting his cholesteral level should be around 100 but he has not had a heart attack and does not have heart disease. These symptoms have been going on for months and he has even had some cortizone shots in his neck with no lasting results. I feel these are symptoms of the cholesterol medicine and he may just not tolerate it.
I have had idiopathic peripheral neuropathy for over 10 years. I imagine medication has had a contributing effect...possibly blood pressure pills. I am also on Warfarin for 2.5 years which causes neuropathy and started Zocor about a year ago. My neuropathy has not flared up or gotten worse in the past year. It used to be much more active.
Yes, I had awful neuropathy after being on Zocor for only a month which worsened over this time. Cardiologist said it definitely wasn't the Zocor, just a coincidence. Have many other symptoms mentioned here and am gradually getting better after 3 days off. Still feel lousy though, not sure what else to do.
thanks everyone. Finally, after a couple of months the pain disappeared. Maybe the chiropractor helped - or maybe it was just time off meds. Now I'm about to try Lipitor.
My mom is going through this right now, and her neurologist thinks that the Zocor she was taking is a cause. She started having extreme pain and numbness in her arms and legs a couple of weeks ago. She spent a week and a half in the hospital and it has still not gone away. (She also had to have her gall bladder out; no idea if this is related to the Zocor as well.) She is having trouble walking and using her hands. :(
According the a book, Numb Toes and Other Woes: More on Peripheral Neuropathy, Zocor, is listed as a drug that is said to cause peripheral neuropathy. Page 229.
I have been taking Zocor for years. About a year ago, I noticed that my toes were numb, now, the ball of my foot is numb. I'm going to a Neurologist for the first time in 2 weeks.
