Hi all. I was diagnosed 3 or 4 years ago with epilepsy. So far, I have on about 5 different epilepsy meds. I can't recall the first 3 but had to get off them because of physical side-effects. My last one was Dilatin which worked pretty well for a year. I slept great - 8 hours on the dot. Then, I started to have short seizures that began to successively lengthen. So, I was switched to Keppra. I started at 250mg/2xday on Keppra and now am up to 1000mg/2xday. I also started taking B6 100mg/day. A couple of days after starting Keppra, I started to get slight headaches. These went away after about 2 weeks. I also got a numb patch on the same place on the bottom of each foot. When I went up to 500mg/2xday, the numb patch spread, I started to feel off-balance, and I started to get the "rage" symptoms. I went up to 1000mg/2xday and most of the bottom of my two feet went numb and cold, I began to get slight tingling in my fingers and a mild case of tightness in my chest. I still felt off-balance and the rage symptoms were there. It began to get hard to get to sleep and I would get up unnecessarily early and not be able to fall back asleep. I want off this med. Maybe it works great for other people but for me it I take it at the levels I need to, I won't be able to work or do much of anything.

Hello! I know how you feel I have epilepsy also, I had a heat stroke at the age of 2yrs old and a head injury, that is when I was Diagnosed. I am on so many medications that I take twice a day, and I also had surgery back in 2000-2001 and had a Vagus Nerve Stimulator put in and man that has really helped with controlling them, on top of taking medications.
Please don't let this get you down, I did and was I stupid for doing that.
Since I have been seizure free 7 yrs July 17th, I am driving, working, and going to school working getting my college degree.
I am on :
4 Keppra 2x'sdaily
3Tegretol 2x's daily
1Topamax 2x's daily
1Valproic acid 1x's daily
1Effexor 1x's daily
Take care, and keep in touch. I believe the combination of medications and my Vagus Nerve Stimulator is what helped me go seizure free.

I myself have epilepsy, and I know what you mean about the medications
some working and some not working, I have been through those stages so many times that it is ridiculous, I have had some reactions like yours and I know that they are miserable.I have been on almost every single medication that there is for Epileptic Seizures and have had reactions to all but the one's that I am on now.
I hope that you and the Doctor's find the correct medication for you.
My prayer's are with you!

I would like to respond to this for future use. My son is on Keppra and at the same time we were put on b6. My son started having major reaction. Tingling in his legs, pain in his knees, numbness. He had all the syptoms you stated. The Doctors did not know what to do. They also said Keppra's only side affect was increased mood problems. Well we went on vacation and forgot the b6 vitamins. My son completly cleared up while on vacation. We did not know what had caused this. When we returned we started up with the b6 again. My son got were he couldn't hardly function. The tingling and numbness had retuned. Then one day I mentioned to my wife that my son had gone on a b6 supplement at the same time he went on Keppra. We pulled him back off the B6 and 3 days later he is back to normal. I believe the problem is with b6 not Keppra.

My doctor wanted me to go on keppra, but after reading about it, I refused. I am going to see a new doctor and hope that I can find something that will not make me crazy.
What are you taking now??? nikko19@hotmail.com

I have been diagnosed with temporal lobe epilepsy since 1997 and was on dilantin too for the first few years. Later, I was put on tegretol but it was too strong for me and I was often off balance. Later, I was given trileptal 1200mg a day. It worked well for sometime but last year, Keppra was added to my daily regimen. It has resulted in loss of libido/impotence and i had difficulty with my erections. I will visit my neuro soon so I can get new medications with less side effects. I've read up on trileptal and keppra and it seems they both have the same serious side effect. This is seriously affecting my relationship with my wife.
