I have been taking adderall for over a year, but for about 10 months ago, I started taking wellbutrin also and since have had chronic problems with my ears, It's actually getting worse. Not so much ear infections, but the pressure is actually pushing inward. So i feel light headed just funky all day. Kind of like a head cold without the cold. I can't figure out which one is causing (i think wellbutrin) since that's when it began. But it could be the combination. Just wanted to know if anyone else is experiencing this. I am 35 female. thanks pam

One week after starting Wellbutrin, the pressure in my right ear became unbearable. I thought it was a bad flu that I may or may not have had at the same time...? I would feel like falling to the floor from dizziness and nausea, until I heard the squeaking air escape and it went back to (ab)normal. I can't "pop" them no matter what. Doctor's said "there is nothing wrong with your ear. Antibiotics made it worse. Next antibiotics helped it, but it came right back after I was done. Ear Nose Throat saw "nothing wrong" either while I was dying of pain from the constant pain and pressure, pressing inwards! He gave me Nasonex and it alleviated the pressure but not cured. It's been over 3 months now!!! No one will believe me, or can see proof. The only thing it coincides with is Wellbutrin...??? And seeing other cases makes me think it has to be that. It feels like puffed up swollen glands/sinuses, but the depression cure is worth it. Will I ever be normal again??? Anyone found a cure or experienced the same? Please let us know. Thanks so much.

Hi Pam

I am on both also for ADHD and have all the same symptoms. The funky light headed feeling, the ear popping almost like your on a plane, and dizziness. I also have headaches and upper neck pain? do you have that as well. I love the way it controls my ADHD but the side effects are too much for me I think I might go off both?

I'm 29 years old and I weigh 200lbs. I have put on weight in the past few years from stress. I have been taking prescribed amphetamines since the age of 17 for ADD. I used to weigh 130lbs at that age. It is very frusterating.
The day I first took Dexedrine (with Prozac), I was in highschool, age 17 and it was a miracle drug for me. I could actually pay attention to every word the teacher and others were saying, I could study, retain information, had a better memory, and I did not have to have people repeat themselves. Because of this treatment, I knew that I was not stupid, and I knew I was intelligent. Before that day, I thought I was stupid. I was so happy and content. After this, at times, I would actually think I was above average and my grades would coincide with this. Unfortunately, my boyfriend at the time, was not used to me sticking up for myself, was not used to me being so confident and focused and I told him I no longer wanted to date him, really, because he was a problem drinker and he got moody. So, to my surprise, he said, "This is not you, this is your medication talking." I was extremely angry. I broke up with him and somehow my medication got taken away from me! One day, for some reason I went to hang out with him....and when I wanted to go home, he became abusive. Anyways, my point is, is that it has been a struggle with ADD and to try to stay on Dexedrine effectively. I have many horror stories with the psychiatric industry, ask if you want to know. But, Dexedrine did not work effectively anymore probably due to the rollercoaster ride of medicine that was forced upon me. So a year and a half ago, I tried Adderall.
I was just wondering how everyone is doing and if you are still taking those two medications? What are the doses you are or were taking? When starting Adderall I was on 15 mg , then 20 mg, and now within the last two weeks, I take 25 mg. This started a year and a half ago. I also take Wellbutrin as of about three weeks ago. And, I take Prozac every third day. The first week of starting Wellbutrin XL I was taking 150mg and I was more focused, had more energy, and getting back to myself. Then, after the five days, I got a very stiff neck,(which continued for a week) so I started the second week of Wellbutrin with 300mg, and after the first night, I woke up with a numb lip, the second night after taking the 300mg the I woke up with a numb lip again, but a bit worse, and a small anxiety attack. The next night there I had a bit bigger anxiety attack so I started back to taking 150mg. I'd like to know if 300mg is too much for my system causing the neck contractions, stiffness and anxiety or if I am causing these systems because of over-worrying? My doctor said it was unrelated and the symptoms will go away. But I cannot bring myself to take 300mg again. Does anyone have any suggestions out there? Does anyone know if too much of these medications cause you to become less focused? I was wondering if I should try less to no Wellbutrin and take 30mg of Adderall? I am 29 years old, and I am definately not where I want to be. I have no career and there are way too many career options for me to choose just one!!! So, if anyone has any suggestions about medications, just let me know please.
Thanx.

I take Aderall XR and welbutrin and I get a sort of pop thing in my left ear when I listen to music. It may be fluid, but I'm getting headaches too. I'm having a hard time concentrating but there are certain times where i feel like I'm waaay more aware of what's going on around me. Like the world get's Claritin Clear on me or something.

me too and I'm on both. Wellbutrin SR 150 mg tabs, 2 in am and 1 at noon, for probably 2-3 years, and Adderal 10 mg tabs 2 in am and 1 at noon just about 3 months ago. Sometimes I try adderal - 1 in am, 1 at noon, and 1 at 4pm. Again with same results. My feet are constantly ice cold even though I have socks and blankets on. I sweat at the base of my neck at night, soaking through two shirts, while I have hand tremors. Thoughts? Suggestions? Bonnie

I'm on Wellbutrin Sr 450mg/day for about 3 years, and Adderal 10mg tabs 3x/day. I have a constant high pitched ringing in my ears too. And have a hard time hearing, along with the side effects I just listed of cold feet, and extreme sweating. Any ideas would be helpful. Thanks. Bonnie

I just read your posting, Bonnie, and I am experiencing the same ear problems as you report (without the ringing). I've been to my doctor, who found nothing. I've been to an ear, nose, and throat specialist and had a hearing test. I've even had an MRI. Nothing was found, and I still have the pressure in my ears (more on one side) and occasional pain. It is exactly like I have a cold, and on some days it's worse than others.

While Adderall and its generics have been extremely helpful to me for the prescribed problem, it's not worth the ear problem. I'm also noticing terrible dermatitis and hair loss. Unfortunately, I didn't relate it to the Adderall until very recently, so I cannot report how long it may take for these symptoms to go away. One last thing...I've also experienced terrible migraines. I hate to go off of Adderall because it's been so helpful, but I can't deal with the side effects any longer. I've been on it for about 9 mos. but that's all my body can take.

G.O.

My 17 year old daughter is on Adderall XR 30 mg. She started having the ear popping (like on a plane) problems when she was put up to the 30 mg. whenever she is exercising. She never had the problem before. Our regular doctor also said there was nothing wrong with her ears and it has gone on since Feb. 2008, so we know it wasn't allergies. Therefore, my suspicion was that it was the Adderall XR 30 mg., because that was the only thing that had changed. Also it didn't happen on the lower doses of the Adderall XR. My daughter is also now having trouble sleeping at night again. The Adderall XR should be out of her system by 7 - 8 PM, but it seems to build up in her system. Our psychiatrist is going to change her medicine. Any suggestions to which medicines work and do not cause weight gain?

i think the dose it too high for your daughter, im a junior in high school and i take addrl xr 30mg, the clear capsule with orange beads whenever i need to stay up for a while to study, usually because i have test the next day, and its not completely out of your system not only does it keep you up it gives me tremors, really cold feet and hands yet my actual body warm, and feels like my temp. is rising and i begin to sweat at times. i would lower the dose, im learning to set my dose so i dont take too much. maybe she shouldnt be taking xr as well, its extended release so it doesnt just go away, its also an appetite suppressant so she doesnt eat or drink as much and it doesnt circulatel through her body quickly. feel free to email me, dudeitscalvin@yahoo.com

hope i could help.

Im a 26yo female that has finally seen a doctor and was diagnosed with ADHD Inattentive type (nothing I havent been told by family, friends, and teachers my whole life)..anyways about wks ago I started taking Adderall xr and hated it my doctor switched my over to a higher dose of the regualar Adderall (2 10mg tablets) and I dont hate it, but I dont feel like my memory's any better or my focusing....my question is that there 3 types of ADHD, I only have Inattentive type....absolutely no hyperactivity....so how can a stimulant used mainly to control and slow down ppl with hyperactivity and no problems with attention and comprehension be used to then do the complete opposite on those who experience problems hyperfocusing on some things and hypofocusing on others

I am on Adderal, and just recently noticed a very high pitched noise in my ears. My head feels full and stuffed all the time. I do have allergies and thought maybe I was getting a sinus infection. However, after reading a lot of blogs today, I to think the ringing is from the adderal.

Hi everyone.
I just started taking the Wellbutrin too and experienced the clogged/ popping in my left ear. It occurs about 20 mins after I take the pill and lasts for about an hour and then I'm fine. I've been on adderall for about 9 months now and haven't had any problems with it, but now I don't seem to get the same effect with the wellbutrin. my doctor wants me to decrease my dose of wellbutrin, but does everyone think?
