I just returned from seeing a hematologist for bruising and bleeding under and through the skin of my forearms. Luckily, it is not a bleeding problem, but a dermatological condition known as "cutaneous atrophy". I read on this website that is a side effect of the kenalog injections. I've been getting the injections in both my knees for the past year (shots every four months). The injections help the pain in my knees, but I think I will just take darvocet for the pain and tell my rheumotologist that I do not want any more of these injections. I've also experienced the excessive sweating around my neck and upper back, not knowing why. Scary side effects.

Bella3,
Hi I read about your bruising and I wanted to find out more. I had been getting small doses of Kenalog in my hips and had some minor bruising and petechiae. About 6 weeks ago a doc did a huge injection into my knee and now I have a lot of bruising on my legs and a ton of the little dots on my arms. All spontaneous. My rheumatologist ran blood tests to see if it was something serious and all came back negative. Tonight I was waliking on the treadmill and lifting 3 # weights. After I noticed a ton of new purple spots on my upper arms.

I am freaked out even though my blood work is negative.
How long since your shot are you still bruising? Do yours take forever to clear up? Do you have other bruising? I seem to get pop up bruises on my legs also.
What did the hemotologist say about how long it takes to clear the kenalog out of the body and stop the bruising? I am scheduled to have knee surgery in a week and I am wondering if I need to postpone. If I cut myself the bleeding stops right away, no problem there.

I am so glad you posted. My arms are scary looking.
Thanks,
ksquared

Sorry to hear about your pain. I have this same thing in my left bicep.
I plan to take the chlorophyll suggestion I read in another post.
Since we have similar problems (arm tendons & muscles) perhaps we could inform each other of anything helpful we learn.

be well
