Hello my name is Kathy. I was on Januvia and Vytorian together for 2 months. I experienced such severe pain through my "WHOLE BODY'" that I ended up in the emergency room. These medications caused my bad injured disc in my back to flare with "Horrible Pain." The Doctor in the emergency room perscribed me percocet and soma....I was literally sleeping or in a sleep mode all day long. I had Heat patches on my back so I could work. I got off of Vytorian first, the pain subsided a little, and then I remained on Januvia for another month. Same story terrible swelling in my feet could not walk at all, very painful to get out of my favorite seat...I had to ask my newphew to lend his hand to me , so I coule get out!!!! I got off both Januvia and Vytorian and am so full of energy and spunk. Those two medications together create ARTHRITUS. 3 days after I stopped taking Januvia I had Diarreah dor 2 days, and the 3rd day I couldn't stop urinating, I must have gained alot of water weight with these pills. And my Doctor said' "NO SIDE AFFECTS>" OOOOOOOOOHHHHHH YAAAAAAAA, let him try those pills. write me back. Harleylover56@aol.com
Thanks for your post. I wished I had looked here sooner.
I've also been taking Januvia (100) for about 8 weeks, and have experienced the same muscle cramps with shock-like pain running down both my legs into my heels and toes. I have also been having severe loss of sleep and having a terrible time in general.
Two days ago, after cutting down, or out, some other diabetic drugs and Tricor, I stopped taking Januvia (100) every morning, two days ago.
I could not tolerate Byetta either. Now I am wondering if I need a Endocrinologist that pays attention when I tell him about the side affects, but either does not listen, or just doesn't care anymore.
Thanks again for your post, and this site.
I arted taking Januvia a week ago and, yesday, began experiencing sharp muscle spasms on the left side of my back, just below the waistline. They feel electric shocks, last only a couple of seconds at most, and nearly bring me to my knees. Is it too soon to link this to Januvia. My endocrinologist said that I may get some arthritic-type pain bust thses spasms are far from that.
How long before the severe muscle cramps from the januvia go away? I took it for a week and a half and feel like I need a walker, I also need help getting up and down. Never had pain like this. Should the Dr. prescribe me a pain pill or a muscle relaxer? Every joint and muscle in my body is screaming.
I am a physician assistant. I am also a type II diabetic. I was taking Metformin 500 mg twice daily and had pretty good control. My A1C fell from 7.3 to 6.7 in 3 months. Then I began having horrendous muscles cramps; the ones in my inner thigh were so bad I almost passed out. The muscle and tendon problems seemed to have begun when I took Cipro. I knew tendinitis could be a side effect of quinolones, but I did not know that it might not show up for weeks after the medication was stopped. Then my doctor gave me Januvia. At first I was pleased, but then the cramps came back--all over my body. I had episodes of hypoglycemia with both metformin and Januvia although neither is supposed to cause this. My doctor, like so many doctors I worked and trained with, refuse to accept bad news about drugs--even if the FDA and drug manufacturers attest to these problems. So here's my plan. Lose weight (I am not grossly overweight but want to lose 20 lbs), eat better (ie. low glycemic foods) and exercise.
Then I am just going to live with the consequences of diabetes. I refuse to take any statins for my cholesterol. I had rather suffer the consequences of disease states than pay pharmaceutical companies to cause me a different sort of suffering.
I have been taking Januvia for about 3 months, and almost immediately upon taking it started waking in the middle of the night after about 4 hours sleep. I started taking it in the morning rather than the evening and it helped a bit but I am still waking up after 4 hours sleep about 3-4 nights a week.
My BS level has gone from 170-200 down to 110-130 while taking it so I'm not about to give it up, but wonder what the reason for this sleeplessness is.
